ld waive the service call fee). The tech called me at 1340 2/11/14 to see if he could come by at 1400 or 1430 to service the system that day. 20 minutes notice? Really? Not knowing how long it would take to get another service call I agreed since my roommate was currently at home. The tech arrived, and announced the keyfob as faulty. He did not offer to replace it, did not call me except to ask for the Master code (as my roommate did not have it or the password for the account, bc I did not want him as an authorized user), and threw away the "faulty keyfob". He had no problem calling for the code, but did not call before he threw out a $99 piece of equipment. Likely, it needed a new battery just as the other had. I called customer service today, asking what was going on? They were less than helpful. She first said my keyfob came from ProtectAmerica and since it wasn't their original equipment, they would not replace it. I then pointed out that they had just recently replaced my back door and garage door sensors (from ProtectAmerica) with new items since the sensors were faulty. She said that they did not do it for keyfobs because they had no way of monitoring them to see if they were going bad. Funny, they said they had been receiving multiple alarms from the keyfob; is that not monitoring the keyfob? She then said they only had a record of two keyforbs: one from ProtectAmerica and one that came with Guardian when I transferred to them. I pointed out that obviously I had had three as my roommate has one, I have the new one, and the tech threw the third out saying it was "bad". She said they would not replace an item that they can't prove I ever had. I guess Guardian reps can't count. I have two that work and one that was thrown out. The tech didn't give me one, so I obviously had three to begin. I cannot help that the installer was incapable of properly filling out his paperwork. He did not leave until 11pm or so the date of installation, so I would have signed pretty much anything to get him out of the house at that time...I had to work the next morning at 0530. The rep on the phone kept giving excuse after excuse; never truly addressing the fact that my keyfob had been thrown away without calling me (the only authorized user on the account) for a possible simple dead/dying battery (that costs around $4.00) They also never addressed why they would ignore multiple alarms without calling the homeowner/accountholder. Seems they are extremely unreliable. I wish I had never left ProtectAmerica. They were irritating at times, but never discarded someone else's property, treated the customer rudely on the phone, or refused to honor their warranties.

Salesman used scare tactics (crime on the rise in this area, etc.) which I fell for - that's my own fault. Within a few months of signing 5 year contract (again, my own mistake) the system started making automated calls to my home telling me that it wasn't receving a signal. When I called to ask for assistance, they tried to help over the phone then told me I'd have to pay $80 for a service call BUT if I extended my contract then it would be free - this happened more than once. Finally tried to cancel service after the contract was up. "Cancellation team" member tried repeatedly to get me to "give them a chance" to make this up, again offering a service call - this tme for $25 - and said that I must have misunderstood the last rep I spoke to. Since I still have my notes from that call I'm comfortable that it was not my comprehension. THEN when I become firm about cancelling she switched to inflamatory language diverting blame for the relationship/service failure on me. After all of that, turns out they have to send my an email to cancel. Avoid them. There are better providers out there who won't try to bully you.

It was difficult to coordinate with the door replacement contractor and Guardian. The Guardian contractor showed up and the door replacement folks weren't here yet so the guy left. We contacted Guardian and they send out another contractor after the door was replace to reinstall the switch. We weren't happy with the first Guardian contractor but we are very happy with the way Guardian corrected the situation and completed the install of the switch on the door.
Description of Work: We had a front door replaced, we needed Guardian to replace the security trip switch.

The install and technology are OK. However, one of the primary features we wanted was the ability to monitor our garage doors. They sold us the sensors and services to do so, along with the standard doors, windows, etc. After a few months the garage door sensors stopped responding. We called to schedule an appointment and the best they could do is get there in 4 weeks. When the tech arrived he said he knew what the problem was, but didn't have the part to fix it. So we had to set up yet another appointment another 4 weeks out. This technician came in, replaced the sensors and called it all good. When I got home, I tested the garage doors and they still didn't work. How the tech could leave without testing the system is beyond me. I called and worked with the techs on the phone for about an hour, and still the system isn't working like it should - so they have to schedule another appointment. They are getting better - only 2 and a half weeks for another workable appointment. All total, it may take up to 2.5 months and 3 visits to fix the system. If I had to do it again, I'd stay away. We spend too much for the 3 year contract to wait months to fix what should be a simple problem.
Description of Work: We reached out to 1st Security to provide an alarm system based on the positive reviews from other Angie's List. The sold us a "Guardian Security System".

We have had many different people come out to fix this camera since we have had it. It will work for a couple of days then stop working. We have tried to get them to just take the monthly monitoring service off of our bill but they will not do it. Yesterday the technician was there for 2.5 hours and did'nt have time to touch the camera. He had to spend at least 30 minutes waiting for them to change an identification number because they had issued the wrong one. The equipment is fine but the service is horrible. I would not recommend this company because of this bad experience and would get out of this contract if it weren't so expensive. I will say again that the service men are very nice and professional.
Description of Work: The provider was supposed to check our re-instalation of our alarm system and fix our camera that hasn't worked since we have had it approx 2 years ago. He only got our alarm systems re-checked. He was there for 2.5 hours. He said they only blocked him 30 minutes to do all of this work. He was great and did an excellent job!

Honestly this is probably the worst alarm company we have had in 20 years. The local vendor 1st Security was fine, but the Guardian, ugh, our system is less than two years old and they have come out multiple times for repairs which they charged us for. In short you get a very average system, with very average customer service, and a company that nickle and dimes you for every possible thing. We have had two alarm systems previous to this in other homes and NEVER had the level of issues we have had with Guardian, on top of that they lock you in to a 5 year contract, so by the time these chronic issues and sub par customer services comes up, it's pretty much impossible to get rid of them. Just a horrible service. Definitely DO NOT use guardian there are any number of services that are far better. Looking at Yelp and Google you will find a numerous reviews with similar complaints about this company
