Description of Work: My husband and I attended the home show at the end of January and spoke with several different alarm companies. We researched many of them and decided to go with Guardian because of all the positive feedback and awards on Angie's list. We contacted Dave from Guardian to come to our home on 2/24 for an estimate and he was 30 minutes late. My husband and I discussed the equipment that we would need for our home with Dave that morning and he stated that there would only be a $99 installation fee since we came to the home show AND that I might qualify for 3 months of service since I am a nurse, but that there is ABSOLUTELY NO DISCOUNT FOR ANGIE'S LIST MEMBERS. During Dave's visit he demonstrated a counter top keypad and my husband and I told him that we wanted a WALL MOUNT keypad. Dave also told us at OUR HOME and at THE HOME SHOW that we only had to sign a THREE YEAR CONTRACT. He called back on 2/25 and stated that we could not "double dip" on the discounts and that we could either have 3 months of free service or $99 installation, NOT both. I stated that we would pay $199 for installation and take the 3 months of free service (total $120), which brought our total to $512 for extra equipment that we chose AND installation. Dave stated that he would come over that evening to sign the contract and pick up the check for the equipment. When he arrived that evening and gave me the contract to sign, I stated, "this is for 3 months right?" Dave stated, "That contract is actually for 5 years." He took the contract back and had to place a line through approximatley 10 different places on the contract that stated FIVE years and change it to THREE and I had to initial EACH PLACE! I signed the contract and gave him the $512 check and he scheduled our installation for the following Thursday. I noticed on the contract that IT DID NOT STATE ANYTHING about the wall mount keypad that we had requested. I emailed Dave on Friday morning 2/26 to remind him that we wanted the wall mount keypad. On Monday afternoon 3/1 he had not responded to my email about the wall mount key pad, so I CALLED him and he stated, " No problem. It has been taken care of." When the installer arrived on Thurs afternoon 3/4 he stated that all he had was a COUNTER TOP keypad and that he had no WALL MOUNT on his truck and knew NOTHING about our request. The installer stated that the office was on the west side of town and by the time he went there and got back it would be late in the evening. My husband stated that he would be at home ALL night. The installer went outside to make a phone call. When he came back in our house he stated that there would be an ADDITIONAL $75 charge for the WALL MOUNT KEYPAD and that he could not come back till NEXT WEEK to perform the installation. We called Dave when the installer left and he stated that, "It was a misunderstanding about the keypad and we would NOT be charged $75." We told him that we were VERY UNHAPPY with what had transpired and we were going to look into a few other companies. We told Dave we would let him know by Friday 3/12 IF we wanted to go ahead with the install. On Tues 3/9 I logged on to our checking acct online and found that Dave had CASHED our $512 check on Friday 3/5 - THE DAY AFTER THE INSTALL THAT NEVER HAPPENED!!!! I immediately called Dave and told him that I ABSOLUTLETY DID NOT WANT TO PROCEDE WITH HIS COMPANY AND I WANT MY $512 back by FRIDAY! He said he would have to call corporate and see when I could get my money back and that I needed to call them to cancel the contract. I told him that I wanted a call back THAT DAY (3/9), to let me know when our $512 would be returned. I called Guardian corportorate office 3/9, 3/10, 3/11, and FINALLY on 3/12 I received a call that it WILL BE AT LEAST 30 DAYS BEFORE I RECEIVE MY $512 BACK. Today is Sat 3/20 and DAVE HAS NEVER CALLED ME BACK! My husband and I ARE VERY UPSET THAT THIS COMPANY HAS CASHED OUR $512 CHECK FOR ITEMS AND INSTALLATION THAT WE NEVER RECEIVED!!!! WE are in the process of filing a complaint with the BBB AND the Indiana Attorney General's Office. THIS COMPANY IS CROOKED! WE WILL NEVER RECCOMEND THEM TO ANYONE!!!!!!

We are sorry for the confusion and delays on our part. 99% plus of the time our process is smooth. Rest assured your money is being refunded. We send in the paperwork to our HQ upon receiving the order and cash upon receipt. Dave sells a new product we are beta testing and thus is part of the confusion. Since you contacted us first at the Home Show, the Home Show special was offered. The Angie’s List discount is something different. The nurse discount (POPS) is another. Unfortunately, you can’t use all three. Again, I apologize for our delays, your loss of time and inconvenience. Nonetheless, we are by no means a 'crooked' company considering your money is being returned in a reasonable time period. I will see that our General Manager reviews your report to insure everything goes smoothly in regard to the return of your money. Furthermore, thanks for sharing this as it will allow us an opportunity to tighten up our communication and installation procedures. I, Kirk Booher, am the designated account manager for Angie List and have been for 10 years. Dave is very qualified and has tons of customer service experience. At the time of install Dave and our Sales mgr where our of town for training, so that was part of the problem still shouldn't have happening. My personal cell phone is the primary number listed. Very well.
Description of Work: Guardian was prompt, knew their stuff, and had our damaged alarm system up and working in no time. They had to replace all the door connections that were shorted by lightening and added a keypad in our master upstairs. Great work.

Description of Work: First I called them because I heard a beeping in the dining room. After about 10 minutes on the phone, Guardian & I found out that the beeping was not my alarm or smoke detector system. I asked them about upgrading my service. They installed a cellular backup alarm system for $160 installation (50% of the total cost) and added only $5 due my monthly service fee. The installer was polite, professional and experienced. It only took him 1 hour to complete the job.
