A Step Above Cleaning

This is the worst cleaning company I've ever experienced. The ladies that cleaned were pleasant and friendly, but the cleaning was poor and they were like bulls in a china closet. I had to keep checking their work and would find things that weren't cleaned correctly and I would tell them and they just wanted to rush out the door. If they needed more time to do the cleaning correctly I would've gladly paid more money to have the job properly completed. After they left I realized that they broke my upstairs toilet seat, which I now have to spend time and money on replacing. The seat itself is $40.00 and the manager Michelle said she would take $15 off my next cleaning...like I would ever have have them back in my house. How does she think giving me $15.00 compensates for the replacement of $40.00 and my time. She had a very bad attitude and extremely poor response to remedy a simple situation. They advertise their first cleaning as a Deep Cleaning service...I don't think they even understand what that terminology means. They didn't even use a mop to mop the tile floors. Their idea of mopping is a squirt bottle and a Swiffer and the manager told me that's their protocol for cleaning...unbelievable, that's not even cleaning, that's what you do between cleanings. The ceiling fans were half cleaned because they obviously couldn't reach them and didn't bring or ask me for a stool or ladder. I could list so many other things that were just not cleaned thoroughly and properly, but the main issue was really the fact that they broke something in my house and the manager refused to fully compensate me for the replacement of the broken item. DO NOT use this company...they lack integrity.

I had this company come out twice in one week to do a deep clean, for which I paid $120. The microwave, windows, window tracks, and under the couch and bed were untouched. The second time they still left the windows and under the bed untouched. I was in constant communication with the company, sending pictures and details. The women also broke a full length mirror (and did not own up to it until days later). When I called to be refunded, the office manager, Michelle, refused to give even a partial refund, and hung up on me.

Women who quoted me was very nice and said all the right things - in addition to the normal cleaning of dust/ vacuuming, bathrooms and kitchens, she said we will clean your baseboards, door knobs, dust ceiling fans, etc. I was very optimistic i had found a 'good' house cleaner. I have high standards and hate that I have to pay someone for something I can do but the reality is I just don't have time to get to it. I was very disappointed with their cleaning. Shelves were missed from dusting, floors never looked clean, cabinets were not wiped down, etc. I had to leave them notes to remind them to clean the top shelf of bookcases. The house didn't look or feel clean. IN fact, to test them, I had left a milk spot on the hardwood floor to see if they cleaned the floor and disappointingly the spot was still there when i got home. I would not recommend this service. Very disappointing!

I've been using them for about 3 years I guess now. They were just here two weeks ago actually, I get them once a month. We might have little problems, but you know, it's like cool and tell them that I was unhappy with something, the next time they'll take like money off and make sure that it's done, you know, so they always do make it right. I use them all the time.

Unfortunately we had to reschedule due to both my husband and being very ill. We rescheduled to the following Wednesday, they showed up on Tuesday, I had to send the cleaners home as I was not ready for them, they called the office and told me to call and see if they could come back the next day. I called in the afternoon, the person on the phone could not be bothered and said 'oh sure, sure, we will be there tomorrow' sure enough they did not come the next day. Thinking that was it I wrote them off. 2 weeks later they came on Tuesday, no one was there to let them in, this was after I told at least 2 people there Tuesday did not work for me and they were lucky I was home the first time since I never work from home Tuesdays. We rescheduled for Friday. When they arrived they started complaining about how hot my house was (74F) and then how thirsty the one woman as on. One cleaner was on her phone a good part of the time. The first floor was cleaned okay no furniture was moved to clean under. They balked at the basement which was part of the original cleaning, pretty much telling me it would not happen. The second floor was cleaned so poorly I just wanted them out of my house, they finished early and could have squeezed the basement into the 4 hours but that would have required more work and of course the one woman was thirsty, but she turned down my offer of a bottle of water because it was not cold. The whole experience was not pleasant and found more and more things that were not cleaned over the next week finally canceling and telling them not to return. Wish we never hired them.

When we hired the company we were told the same two girls would come every time. There was always different cleaners, sometimes it was good and sometimes it was awful. Sometimes only one person came and did a quick job. One time the cleaners came early and we let them in before anyone was home, and they left within 45 minutes and the house was hardly touched. The last straw is they did not show up as scheduled, no phone call or explanation. They were a mistake from the beginning, a waste of money.

The woman who took my order on the phone and scheduled me was very nice and professional HOWEVER she quoted me $220 for all the rooms listed above. I ended up paying another $120. They sent 3 women to clean my home which is ready to go on the market, meaning everything is in place and neat. All i needed them to do was deep clean and that did not happen. I asked them to redo a couple things and they did do it but with some attitude and never asked if I was satisfied. As another reviewer said, everything was cleaned OK but NOT deeply - hardwood floors had no shine and bathrooms are just ok, countertops sticky. I will be doing more cleaning on my own tomorrow :(

I responded to a promotional flyer with a coupon. Scheduling/availability was okay, though it was a little annoying that they could not tell me when they called the day before, what time the cleaner would arrive, and who to expect (names). This gave me the impression of a lax and disorganized service which should have alerted me to lack of accountability. Before coming home, I had suddenly remembered about Angie's list and decided to look up the company - my heart sank when i read the reviews, but I was still hopeful and decided not to set my expectations too high. The house was cleaned "okay", though definitely NO "wow" factor. I have seen much much better work. The bathrooms were fine. The kitchen floor was terrible- visible smudges, and no shine - did not show any effort. Kitchen was "okay"- the counters were cleaned, but the appliances were left sticky. The inside of the sink was stained. It doesn't take much to scrub a sink shiny white-- again, no effort. Several items were broken that i decided are not a big deal. A new pair of shoes has gone missing. That turns a D to an F. Cannot recommend this service.

A Step Above Cleaning i really can't recommend. I had them come clean a number of time and the cleaning wasn't too bad but wasn't the best either. The women were nice though. It's the scheduling system -- horrible. They don't tell you at all what time they are coming on the day they are coming -- not even a phone call -- they just show up. And if you call to find out when they are coming and what to arrange a time when you will be there or when your child won't be napping, you might or might not get a bad attitude on the phone about it. Overall it was just really stressful the scheduling system and not at all worth using the company. There are other companies out there that will tell you the day before or call you the morning of and tell you what your "window" is and at least give you that information or let you pick what time of day is good for you. Generally this company was just too much of a pain to deal with. Oh! and when they give me a wind of 3-4pm, at 4:45pm i finally would call and say, what time are they coming? and none could tell me exactly what time so i just would cancel the cleaning. So it was like my house just never got cleaned regularly and it was a really big pain! But if you don't mind that, i guess they aren't too bad.
