I have dealt with a lot of moving companies and Mastrocco is truly the best. They arrive on time, work until it's done, do everything and anything asked of them and you never hear a complaint from anyone. They may not be the least expensive company, but the service you get definitely makes them worth every penny.
Description of Work: The loaded and stored our entire household of furniture, then unloaded it with not a single item broken.

Before the Move: We hired Mastracco Movers just a couple of days before our move because our new apartment building required a specific type of insurance that the movers we wanted to use did not have. Mastracco was the preferred mover for the high-rise we were moving into and it was too late for us to scramble and find another company given the restrictions involving insurance (something we were not informed of when we booked the freight elevator for this move). Tony was accommodating on the phone and a nice guy overall. They required a $100 cash deposit for the move and I ended up meeting his brother in center city to make the exchange. Additionally, we had a hard stop for our move at noon and had firmly requested that the movers show up at 8 am sharp or we would not be able to finish the move in time. We had to give up the freight elevator at noon to other tenants in our new building, and timing was an important issue for us. Tony agreed to this, even though I think most of there moves start at 9, which was a nice gesture on his part. The Move-Out: I was worried about only have 2 movers come out, but we had explained how much stuff we had and this is what was recommended for us. The movers showed up at 8:20, which irked me somewhat since we had made such a big deal out of the 8 am start. With only two movers, we were worried about finishing the move in time, but I figured I would help load/unload the truck to speed things up. I offered to help when the movers arrived and they said that I didn't need to, but I was welcome to if I wanted to. There may have been some miscommunication between Tony and the two guys that showed up, because they were expecting an easy move and the move out of our brown stone is anything but that. Regardless, our two movers worked extremely hard and did a wonderful job navigating our furniture down our narrow and sometimes winding stairs. The Move-In: When we arrived at our new high rise, it was already 10:40 and I asked the movers if they had been informed that we would lose the freight elevator at noon. They didn't seem to care when I told them, although they did seem to work harder to help us meet our time goal. At this point, I became a full-time mover and was taking the majority of the stuff that came off the freight elevator and carrying it to the apartment. My parents were in town and my dad helped a fair amount as well. Even with 4-5 people assisting on the move, we still weren't able to finish before noon, and actually finished at 12:25 (the 8 am start would have finished ~12:05). We had a small issue with the front desk, as the people moving after us wanted the freight elevator ASAP and they seemed upset that we needed the extra time. The Payment: My main issue with Mastracco came when it was time for payment. We were quoted a rate of $98/hour for the two movers for a minimum 4-hour move, which seemed reasonable but not great. The other company we had originally hired was charging us a rate of $125/hr for 3 guys with a minimum 3-hour move. We expected to pay for four hours, since the move lasted from 8:20-12:25; however, they tried to charge us for 6 1/2 hours. I wish I was making that up, as it seems ludicrous to type, but that was the final time/price they gave us when it was time to pay. They arrived at this figure because they charge for "travel time" to your residence in the morning and from your residence after the move. They estimated 1 hour travel time on each end, and since they were supposed to show up at 8 am, they started the charge at 7 am. So they were billing us from 7am to 1:25pm even though they only worked from 8:20-12:25. On top of this, we were NEVER informed of these additional costs when we originally talked to them about the move. You would think something along these lines would be mentioned, since it was an additional 50% of the price we were expecting added on to the final price. We were able to talk them down to 5 1/2 hours, as it only takes 30 minutes max to get from Warminster (where they are located) to Center City. This still means we paid for 90 minutes of work that we never received. Overall: Overall, this move was a mixed bag. Mastracco helped us out of a bind by agreeing to move us on short notice, and this may be the reason why they could only supply two movers instead of 3 that we needed. Additionally, the two guys that moved us worked extremely hard, as the move-out process was a difficult one (I know first hand since I did the majority of the move-in by myself). Even with this, the final issues with payment and being charged the extra time without being notifiied of these costs beforehand left a very bitter taste in our mouths. Knowing this, I would not use Mastracco again. There are many highly rated movers in the city and we will work with someone else next time.
Description of Work: We hired this company for a move from a 4-story brown stone in center city to a high rise in center city. The two spaces were 8 blocks apart and we had furniture and belongings equivalent to that of a 2 bedroom house. Specifically, we were moving a queen sized bed, two couches, a lounger, two sets of coffee tables and end tables, a kitchen table, two dressers, two nightstands and many boxes consisting of clothing, books, cookware, etc.

They movers showed up promptly but were unprepared and had to borrow tools and tape from my husband. They asked to move additional items that were not previously planned on being moved by them and then charged us extra for this. In addition, apparently because I did not take their additional insurance the movers did not care that they damaged the furniture and despite leaving several messages about the damage I have received no return phone calls indicating that the company has a policy of allowing their employees to damage property when additional insurance is not taken out. I do not recommend these movers to anyone. They will waste time looking for things to move so they get a higher amount of money as they charge by the hour, they are unprepared for the furniture that they would routinely moved such as a bed and they are extremely careless.
Description of Work: They moved my furniture a short distance from my old home to my new home.

If you want your stuff to make the move without being damaged and you also want to make sure that both the house your moving from and the house your moving to are not damaged during the move, A. Mastrocco Jr. is the best choice at a fair price (not a low price). This company really does whatever it takes to make its clients happy. Very impressive. Overall, the move went very well. Day one was packing day and this is when an estimate was given. Day two was moving day. Day three was a second and unexpected moving 1/2 day required because our belongings did not fit in the truck. Rob was the supervisor on the move. He and Carl Jr. did a great job and were very responsive to our needs. John and John Jr also did a nice job. It's nice to have movers that obviously care about you and your belongings as if they were their own! Their caring and willingness to be very flexible makes it worth every penny paid. I would have given an A on the report but unfortunately, an unexpected second trip was required since their truck was not large enough for all of our stuff. This was obviously an honest mistake but still caused enough additional charges and inconvenience that I was not comfortable giving them an A. This is also why I gave a C instead of a B on price. The final price was just slightly higher than we expected and slightly higher than estimated on packing day.
Description of Work: A. Mastrocco Jr. Moving & Storage Inc. packed our our belongings and furniture and moved them approximately 40 miles to our new home. They took great care with all of our items to ensure they were properly packed for the move. If they found anything unsual while they were packing or moving items from the house into the truck such as keys, valuables or items that had existing damage, they made us aware of what they found immediately and asked if we had any special requests. All items were moved into the new home however, we asked that most things be left in the boxed rather than unpacked. There were many, many boxes and packing paper used. Fortunately, we kepted all boxes in good shape and made sure that nothing got wet after we unpacked the boxes. Mastraocco was able to pick up all packing materials one week after the move when we called them.

The movers were professional and did a careful job packing and moving my things, including the piano which had to go up two flights of stairs. They worked efficiently, and were particularly good at carefully stacking things in storage to maximize room. My complaint was that the job took much longer and cost much more than was estimated. When Mastrocco says an 8 hour day, it is really 6 hours because they allow 1 hour travel each way. Any time over 8 hours is billed time and a half. My job took much longer than estimated: 8 hours the first day, 11 the second, and 13 the third, with an additional man sent to help. So labor ran 50% over what was estimated, and near the end, the job was rushed and exhausting. The job, however, was as I described it during the estimate, so the estimate should have been more accurate. There were no major surprises, and, in fact, I packed and moved more than was known at the time of the estimate. Mastrocco put a cap on the cost of packing material, but not labor. When I told him after the job that i was dissatisfied with the time/cost overrun, he seemed unapologetic and seemed to indicate the overrun was anticipated. I would not recommend them because of the time and cost overrun, and the rushed nature of the move in the end. I understand that some movers put a cap at some percent overrun. I will look for that next time and investigate a company's track record for time and cost overruns, as well as for quality of move.
Description of Work: This was a local, but complicated move because I was coming out of a large house into a small apartment, and because items were being divided into three areas: long term storage, storage for shipment, and an apartment. I went over this in detail with Tony Mastrocco, who did the estimate. Before the movers came, I labeled things carefully, and packed and moved a good many things myself, which I thought would decrease the scope of the job that was estimated. Mastrocco movers packed and moved all the furniture, including an upright piano, and the fragile items, and rearranged the storage area. The job was estimated to take three days, with three men the first day packing, and four men on days 2 and 3 to finish packing and move items into storage and into my new apartment. .

There were on time and did the job to my satisfaction. The price was somewhat high, but may be comparable with other companies in the area. However, they were upfront about their pricing, which I agreed to. I called additional companies that didn't even contact me back, which I felt was due to this being a small job. I appreciated Mastrocco completed my project.

I was leaving my home of 34 years and was very emotional and stressed. They were thoughtful and patient when it took me awhile to answer a question or make a decision. They worked quickly but still allowed me time to relive a memory before they emptied a room. Yes, they moved everything without damage and in the time frame promised but their kindness meant more to me than their excellent care of my possessions.
Description of Work: The personnel from Mastrocco Moving provided me with boxes and packing tape before the move and instructions on the best way to pack things to avoid breakage. They managed to my great surprise to fit everything into one van and transport it all to my new location and then unload and arrange everything to my specifications and satisfaction. They were extremely professional, patient and knowledgeable.

Driver and crew polite, efficient and very hardworking. Note that company requires a $200 non-refundable advance deposit to reserve your moving date. Overtime rate applies after 8 hours. Time on job is calculated from the time the truck leaves the company lot, including any transit time between locations. All of this is disclosed in advance. We would definitely use the company again for our moving needs.
