After my first discussion with Chris, he called me back within the promised time to set up an appointment to review and bid the project. He arrived on time for the set appointment. After reviewing the scope of the job, Chris provided an on site estimate of $1350-1650 depending on extent and time on the job. It was clear in the estimate that the cost did not include any unforeseen carpentry work. Chris was able to accurately estimate when he thought he'd be able to start the job - within 2-3 weeks. He was able to actually start within 2 weeks and took 3 days to complete the project. The actual cost came in at $1940 due to carpentry work that had to be done. This price was on the high side of what I expected, but appreciated having someone provide the service in a timely and professional manner. The project was completed to my satisfaction.
Description of Work: Exterior repair and painting of home trim, tudor peak and outside porch ceiling. Filled major cracks and voids with caulk. Replaced front window structural boards as part of the repair.

I'd had some trouble finding a painter who would either a) give me a quote or b) show up after they agreed to do the work. I couldn't have had *less* trouble working with Sweet Success. He responded within a few days of receiving the quote request, then came out to my house for a walk-through that ended with a detailed, written quote. The price was reasonable, the quote was thorough and I hired them on the spot. He and his crew started approximately two weeks later. The work took slightly longer due to the weather (external painting at the end of October maybe not such a good idea), but Chris began every workday with an outline of work to be completed and ended every workday with an update on their progress so I was never out of the loop regarding their time line. Chris and his crew were professional and courteous and the final work fell within the original estimate. They did the job right, start to finish. I will definitely contact them again this spring with more work.
Description of Work: Prepped, sanded and painted the trim, doors, railings, uprights and porches on my home.

The project turned out very nice. Chris was very professional when providing the estimate, discussing the house, it's needs and how he operates. The exterior of the house and particularly the front porch and steps look very good. The crew showed up every day at their appointed time and worked the entire day. Project took 5 and 1/2 days to complete. Chris' bid was not the low bid, but it was certainly competitive and he was able to complete the job before the season ended which was important to us.
Description of Work: Chris and his assistant painted the exterior of our home, including the front porch and steps. Project involved extensive prep work since the home is 88 years old and stucco. Front porch and steps needed a lot of attention. Chris had the paints custom mixed and only used a brush or roller to apply.

Chris and his guy did a bang-up job. They managed to hoise up the sagging ceiling, fix all the cracks and re-mud the foyer. We just finished cleaning up the (unavoidable) leftover dust. Any job that big was likely to produce some and he warned up about it ahead of time. All in all, they did great. We're very pleased. Now I can finally finish painting the living room and foyer.
Description of Work: We had several cracks in our living room ceiling. One ran the length of the living room. The biggest problem was one that ran across the back of the room where the ceiling had dropped roughly 1/2". In addition to those and a couple other smaller cracks, we also asked Chris to replaster our small foyer. A few months ago as I was scraping to paint, the paint had bubbled up all the way to the plaster from condensation in the area.

He started on the schedule quoted. However, as the work progressed there were more layers of wall paper than expected plus considerable unexpected plaster damage which had to be repaired.

This company was excellent to work with. I thought that they were very professional and did excellent work. We had an unexpected dip in temperature so the staining they did turn spotty due to the weather. They came right back out, re-sanded and re-stained the deck and it still looks fabulous.

Chris promptly came out for an estimate, and returned to do the job within 4-6 weeks. Once his crew arrived, they worked very hard well into the evenings, and they were there every day until the job was done (about 4 days). Once work began, they ran into difficulties. On the lower deck, the old deck stain would not strip off, so the entire deck floor had to be sanded down to remove the stain. The upper deck was splintering badly and had to be deeply sanded to get below the damage. Chris decided to rent a floor sander to do the upper deck (at my expense). I wish he would have used it on the lower deck too, because using a hand-held belt sander did not sand the surface down uniformly flat, leaving "ripples" all over the deck. The interior paint job was very neat but did not have a uniform color, which Chris came back to fix. Overall I'm satisfied with the work, but I wish his estimate ($3900) was more accurate. I feel he should have known how much sanding and what stain was involved.
Description of Work: Restoring two decks (power wash, sanding including completely sanding old stain off of floor surface, and two coats of new stain), sanding and repainting floor of front porch, replacing and painting some rotted wood on front porch pillar, and painting living room/dining room walls.

Chris and his not-so-motley crew largely did a superb job. The interior painting was impeccable. The railroad tie refinishing was great, the small deck looks very good now, especially considering its earlier weathered look. The only minor complaints are: 1) He's not cheap, but you get all you pay for. 2) The exterior post-work clean-up was not quite complete. 3) He missed a spot in the exterior work, which I'm sure he'll fix soon as I call him (just noticed that now, as I was reviewing the work for this report). But if the above are my worst complaints, it means he did very good job indeed! Timely too.

Before we even got started Chris had to use my restroom. He was in there for about 5 minutes, and seemed to enjoy reading my books that I had in a basket on the floor. I thought that was very rude to come to someones house and make your self literally at home. We went over everything I wanted done, a lot he did not do. Which were the main things I wanted. I needed a fan installed in the attic, and a small amount of regrading done in the front of the house before he did the dry-lock. He informed me that he could not due either. The prices he game me was extremely high. To replace a small bathroom faucet his price was $200-250. The kitchen was $200-$225. I WAS SUPPLY THE FIXTURES, THIS PRICE IS JUST INSTALLATION. To cut and hang a door that I WAS PURCHASING it would cost me $300.00 to $325. With out me listing all items, his total was $1655 to $1925. He did not have a flashing light or even a tape measure. He knew before he came out what work needed done.
Description of Work: I had a list of seven items I wanted done. I needed a door installed, a bathroom shower caulk, two faucets changed, living room painted (with three small plaster holes fixed), dry-lock basement wall (only half way) and patch front porch pillar, and paint matching color.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
I’M OBVIOUSLY WRONG, BUT I JUST DIDN’T THINK THAT LOOKING THROUGH A NORTHERN TOOL CATALOG THAT WAS IN A BASKET IN PLAIN SIGHT IN THE BATHROOM CONSTITUTED ANYTHING UNPROFESSIONAL. WE DID DISCUSS SOME OF HER PROJECTS OVER THE PHONE, BUT AS WITH ANY ESTIMATE MANY NEW THINGS ARE DISCUSSED WHEN YOU’RE ACTUALLY IN THE CUSTOMER’S HOUSE. UNLIKE A LOT OF CONTRACTORS, I WON’T CONTRACT FOR A JOB THAT IS OUTSIDE OF MY SKILL SET. I BELIEVE IN BEING COMPLETELY OPEN ABOUT WHAT I CAN AND CAN’T DO. MY SERVICES ARE PLAINLY LISTED ON THE ANGIE’S LIST WEBSITE. REGARDING IS NOT LISTED BUT “SMALL APPLIANCE REPAIR” IS. HOWEVER, I DON’T BELIEVE INSTALLING AN ATTIC FAN CONSTITUTES A REPAIR AND ATTIC FANS ARE CERTAINLY NOT SMALL. NEVERTHELESS, I WAS ABLE TO GIVE HER AN ESTIMATE FOR 75% OF HER REQUESTS. AS FOR MY PRICES, THE OLD SAYING IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE, “YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.” I AM A QUALITY ORIENTED CRAFTSMAN. MY PRICES REFLECT THAT. MY HAPPIEST CUSTOMERS ARE THOSE WHO DEMAND QUALITY AND THAT IS WHAT THEY GET. ALL ANGIE’S LIST REPORTS SHOW PRICES PAID FOR SERVICES RENDERED. THAT IS TO HELP CUSTOMERS DECIDE IF A CONTRACTOR IS IN THEIR PRICE RANGE. I HAVE OVER 100 REPORTS WITH AN OVERALL GRADE OF A, 2 WITH A B. I BELIEVE MY CREDENTIALS STAND ON THEIR OWN. WOW, I’M SO STRESSED OVER THIS REPORT, I NEED TO GO INTO MY BATHROOM AND READ FOR A WHILE.

Chris and his crew did a great job. Once added to their schedule, I was told that the job would take 5-6 weeks, but they were able to do the work in half that time. (Chris had hired summer help that was able to push the job along - only issue was the summer help was not too experienced). If anything needed to be revisited, it was done quickly). The plaster work was top-notch and the end result was fantastic. It looks wonderful. Chris and his crew were on top of things and were professional in their demeanor and workmanship. They were on time and worked diligently every day. Thanks Chris and crew for a job well done! (I had also asked Chris to look at an issue with a supporting post on the back porch and he made time to correct it and did not change the job price).
Description of Work: Interior painting of a 2.5 story house: kitchen, living room, dining room, master bedroom, 2.5 bathrooms, hallways, detailed woodwork for staircase and fireplaces, family room, office, small den (other bedroom did not need to be painted). Most of the work done by teenagers, and 'teens will be teens'. Which can be a problem when Chris (employer) is not present (much of the time). Chris is very knowledgeable about his work and open to query (reason we chose him over others), but he's not professional interpersonally. He charged us for power spray cleaning the deck without prior agreement; the refuse from the spray cleaning was not removed even after we told Chris that we found our missing hose spray nozzle in the refuse from the brick spray cleaning.
Description of Work: Exterior: Power spray cleaning, scraping of bubbled/peeling paint, removed/replaced some rotted/ant infested areas, sanded, primed, and finished coat with top quality paint; clean up included power spray clean of brick deck.

Chris promptly came out to quote the job and provided references that were glowing. He has some very, very happy customers. They all said he did detailed, careful, professional work and that was my experience as well. He kept in contact regarding the time frame and called a week before to schedule the actual work. We had good weather so the job took him (and his small crew) two days. He was careful with the surrounding areas and cleaned up when he finished. Given the expense, my real satisfaction will come over time if my deck doesn't need to be sealed for another five years.
Description of Work: Our deck needed a little TLC - we wanted it to be pressure washed and sealed. After talking with Chris, we decided to apply an oil based primer with deck extender and a coat of semi-transparent stain. This was the more expensive option (versus just the primer and stain at $1500) but is expected to last 3-5 years instead of the usual 2-3 years.

Chris was my 1st estimate and the most thorough and professional. He pointed out things that I hadn't thought about that needed to be done before the painting was to begin such as the masonry work. The other 2 estimates didn't mention it. As soon as I called, he was able to fit me in IMMEDIATELY due to another job changing their date. I GOT VERY LUCKY since my job was a big job estimated to take 10 - 14 work days, and Chris was very clear about not taking short cuts and taking the time to do the job right. There was an extreme amount of prep work to be done since I was in an older home that apparently hadn't had the job done the right way previously. To my delight the job was completed on day 7! He brought in a couple extra guys which moved things along much more quickly. It looks great! You never know how bad it was until you see the "after." His crew seemed like a good bunch of guys and I never worried about being gone at work all day. I am COMPLETELY satisfied!

When I called Chris initially he happened to be in our area and was able, within the hour, to come to our house, look over our job and give us a quote. We signed a contract that day and agreed to have Chris come within 3 to 5 weeks to do the work. 3 weeks later, Chris & Justin showed up promptly at 9:00 and started moving furniture and covering everything. After working diligently all day they were able to finish the job in one day. We are very happy with there work. They were both very polite and professional and we appreciated there attention to detail. I'm sure we will hire them again for future work.

Excellent. Chris came to the house to give us an estimate and a time frame as to when he would be available for the job. Chris came exactly when he said he would to give an estimate. I explained to Chris that we were getting ready to put our house on the market to be sold and told him what we had in mind in terms of re-painting the trim, the steps and the work up stairs. Chris took over 1 hour to really look at everything and then sat down with me to explain his plans. After going over everything Chris actually talked me out of some of the major painting since he felt it really wouldn't benefit our plans to sell. He recommended the patch work on the walls and the steps, which was a great suggestion. He started on the day promised and finished a day early. Both Chris and his crew were terrific when they were in the house. They did an excellent job with the work and made sure the work area was spotless when completed. Chris and his crew did such a great job that I am convinced it is one of the reasons we were able to sell our house so quickly and get our asking price!

Job 1: He comes on time, does the work expected, & charges a very fair price. He is a perfectionist. I d recommend him to anyone. Job 2: Chris & his assistant, Luke, were here for 2 days. They arrived on time & did all the work Chris said they would do, at the price quoted us. Chris did a couple of extra jobs & didn t charge us. An example of his thoroughness involves our shutters. When Chris came out to the house (on a Sat) to discuss the various jobs we had for him, I showed him a nearly empty can of paint from when our home was built 13 yrs ago, & he took a sample of it (on a piece of cloth). When he showed up to do the work this wk, he brought with him a can of paint that perfectly matched that color. Chris & Luke were both very friendly & professional. When the job was completed, Chris presented me with a detailed bill & answered all my questions. My wife & I have already started our next "Chris's List" for future jobs we want him to do for us. Chris is both a gentleman & a gem!
Description of Work: Job 1: Late last fall, my wife and I talked to Chris about doing some work for us this spring. Then, in December, we heard some loud banging, and discovered that the siding on one side of our 12-year-old home had come loose. I wasn't sure whom to call about the problem, but my wife suggested we try Chris. He came out the next day (a Saturday) and fixed the problem right away for us. He also repaired an overhead light in our game room. While he was here, we discussed in more detail the work he'll do this spring. Chris had several good ideas for us.($50.) Job 2: Pressure-washed and sealed driveway, patio and sidewalk; installed six outside lights; cleaned and painted shutters on all windows in front of house; painted frames around front door, patio door and garage doors; repaired light switch in game room; repaired loose strip of siding on side of house; painted lamp post in front yard; fixed minor cracks in glass block window.($2225.)
