Rather than a cosmetic job, Chris made repairs that will last and improve the value of our home. He was very professional, knowledgeable, punctual and discussed issues as they arose. Once the ceiling was removed, we had to bring in an electrician to run wires for a ceiling fan. Chris was very flexible in working with the electrician. We plan to use him for an exterior painting project in the spring.
Description of Work: Chris and his crew replaced the living room ceiling; repaired holes in the walls; repaired crumbling walls with plaster; repaired cracks in walls and ceiling; and painted the living room, dining room and kitchen. It is gorgeous!

This was an excellent experience for me. I had never contracted with a service provider obtained from Angie's List. I placed a call to Sweet Success and Chris was out the next day to provide an estimate. He altered his travel plans to provide me with an estimate ASAP. He informed me of the prep work that we needed to complete before his company could complete their task. We completed the prep work, called Chris and they were here within a couple of days. They arrived exactly when they said they would and had the work completed in the time frame specified. In addition, this company did an amazing job of isolating the dusty work area from the rest of the house. The finished walls were MORE than I ever expected, considering the damage that had been done. I strongly recommend that anyone contact this company. I'm certain that you will be pleased.

Even though their work is expensive, it was excellent. One of the workers even freed up an extra window while he was waiting for his boss to return with the glass. I would definitely consider working with them again.
Description of Work: Chris and his two co-workers arrived close to their expected date (weather made it later). Chris had come previously and given me estimates- final cost was $50 less than his higher estimates. Though it was expensive, they were good workers and the jobs were well-done. 1) They repaired a hole in the ceiling and patched problem areas in a small bed room. The work was excellent. 2) They worked on two second storey windows replacing one. When he went to buy the glass, they gave him the wrong kind and it shattered. He found other thicker glass (which he had asked for in the beginning) and finished the job at no extra cost to me. 3) My front steps needed a new top step and and a paint job. First, he bought the wood for the top step at the time we established the contract so that it could "age" a little. Then he suggested a stain with paint (the old paint had always failed). They pressure washed, treated for mildew, sanded and stained the steps. They look beautiful and the clean up was great.

All the work was well done, within the limitations of possibilities. This statement requires some clarification: The bathroom door had some holes where screws had evidently been placed some years ago and which were later filled with wood putty. According to Mr. Dallaba it is not possible to obtain a match to the rest of the door in such circumstances. They were unable to make the exterior gate fit perfectly because the structure in which it is located had deformed. All members of the crew were friendly and courteous. They kept us well informed about when they would arrive to begin the work and when we could expect it to be finished.
Description of Work: We had a great variety of repair work to be done ranging from repairing damaged T111 siding and staining to reanchoring a step railing. They replaced a rotted rail on our upper steps with treated lumber (but told us that it could not be painted immediately because some time is required for the chemicals in the wood to evaporate—they will do the painting later when warm weather returns). They worked on an exterior gate to make it fit better. They sanded some interior doors to improve their fir and stained them. They stained a bathroom door. They replaced rotted edgings arround exterior windows and stained them. They repaired and stained the housing of an air conditioner heat exchanger. They stained a wide frame around exterior windows. They repainted the edging around our dining room door.

They were on time and followed the plans as we laid them out. A lot of man-hours went into this work. They cleaned up after themselves. Some extra damage was found, and the extra cost was very reasonable.
Description of Work: Chris and his 2 helpers did extensive exterior work for us between May and September 2009. They repaired and refinished several rusted steel railings-they came out better than we had hoped as they were in bad shape. They refinished small porches over the front and back doors, which required extensive removal of old paint. They repaired shake exterior on 3 sides of the house which required some carpentry, and applied a stain finish. Some window molding and two doors were painted. They power washed every surface before refinishing, and power washed a concrete porch and sidewalks. We were impressed with Chris' commitment to quality work and were willing to pay more than a "low bid price" to get a beautiful and long-lasting work.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
This customer is a landlord. I am a high-end surface restoration specialist. I focus on quality and service not speed or price. Most landlords don’t want the level of quality I offer for their rental property. I explained this to her (and to all landlords who call-some of whom really do want high quality work.) In point of fact, I wasn’t rude to her but honest. Some people like the truth sugar coated. That’s not what I do. If you want someone to sugar coat the truth for you, then I’m not your guy. If you want the truth straight up, then I’m for you. The irony here is that in the contracting industry, which is not known for being full of honest guys, I’m being rebuked for being too honest!

We found them on Angies List and we were very delighted to find them. He did an excellent job. They were punctual and professional. The owner came everyday to give me an update on how it was going, the timing and what they were doing. Every evening they cleaned up very well after themselves. When we signed the contract he told us an estimated time of when he could start the project and he was very accurate to the start date. The quality of the work was excellent.
Description of Work: Sweet Success Contractor was hired to do some exterior painting for us. They also power washed some of the areas that would be painted and some brick areas that just needed to be cleaned. They also had to replace some rotting wood and replace the tile on it, as well.

Chris and his crew arrived right on time and were set up and working quickly. They were all very professional and friendly. They started at 8:00 a.m. and Chris and one of his crew stayed until 8:00 p.m. to finish the plastering in the bedroom. We were amazed at the work they accomplished in one day. They moved furniture in the bedroom, covered everything and did an impeccable clean up. Although the price at first seemed little high the work they did was definitely worth the cost. Chris kept us updated throughout the day about the work. We would definitely use this company again.

My plaster dining room ceiling gave way and crashed onto my combo living/dining room hardwood floor. Chris was there right after the collapse and was able to rearrange his schedule so the he and the crew arrived the next day to tear down the rest of the ceiling that did not collapse and begin the process of installing a new ceiling. They hauled away the huge mess of a double plaster ceiling and coped with the mess of an old house that had been heated with coal. All aspects of the work were of the highest quality and he was able to finish ahead of schedule. I'm still working with my insurance company about the amount they'll pay and Chris has been very helpful in dealing with a reluctant adjustor.

We inherited a house after our father?s death. He was quite elderly and the home was neglected for several years. The house needed extensive inside plaster work, complete inside painting + scraping and painting of all outside wood surfaces. We live about 5 hours west of Pittsburgh? and used Angie?s List to hire contractors in Pittsburgh. For plastering and painting we liked what we read about Chris Dallaba and Sweet Success Contractors. He was our first choice and, fortunately for us, was available. We didn?t have a lot of time to make a choice but were immediately impressed by Chris?s knowledge and professionalism. Our judgment proved entirely correct. Our only concern was that Sweet Success was such a small company. However, Chris subcontracts with some good guys and did an outstanding job supervising his help. They obviously work for Chris frequently and understand the quality of work he requires. He had 5 or 6 guys climbing all over that two-story house scraping and painting. Then, as often happens in an older home, other projects were uncovered outside the original scope of work. Chris provided recommendations and estimates? and those that added value were added to the contract. We had unexpected good luck in hiring Chris. He provided good advice on what needed to be done, what probably should be done (if we could afford it). And, equally important, what should not be done. His experience allowed him to recommend what would and would not add resale value to the property. The real estate agent agreed. We took all his recommendations. He was obviously right. We had a contract for sale in 30 days? in a very down market. Other homes (on the same street) that were on the market before ours? are still for sale. We highly recommend Sweet Success.
Description of Work: Repair plaster due to water damage around most windows and other areas. Small cracks elsewhere in the house and bathroom. Large wall area in one bedroom. Repair drop ceiling in kitchen. Reinstall curtain rods on first floor. Paint all inside rooms. Pressure wash and paint inside of garage. Pressure wash driveway. Scrape and paint all outside wood surfaces including front and back doors, garage door, and windows on porch on a mostly brick, two-story house. Pressure wash and paint foundation areas... 6"-7" high in back.

Chris is very professional and it is a pleasure working with him. We were in the process of interviewing several painters to paint the exterior of our house. Our house is contemporary in style and needed some attention to detail. Chris has an impressive portfolio of restoration work and painting. Of those we interviewed, Chris was not the least expensive, but he seemed to clearly understand the look we were working towards, as well as, the attention to detail we were hoping to achieve if we had the time to do the work ourselves. Our living room fireplace wall was cracked and peeling due to some water damage. We decided to hire Sweet Success to make those repairs and repaint the walls and ceiling to gauge the quality of their work before hiring them to paint the exterior. Before they even finished the room we told him to go ahead and schedule us for painting the exterior. His crew worked well together. They are respectful men who take pride in their work and are careful of your home and belongings. Unfortunately, an area around the chimney leaked again. But Chris said he would be back to touch-up the stain once the new chimney cap is in place and the problem is resolved. We greatly appreciated that. The interior restoration done on our brick chimney wall and plaster was exceptional. We were very pleased with the quality of his work.

Chris completed some interior work for us and we were so pleased that we hired him to paint the exterior of our house as well. We interviewed several exterior painters for the job. His bid was the highest, but he was offering the most. He was addressing areas that the other painting contractors didn't notice, so we were careful to compare apples to apples in our cost projections. Our home is of contemporary design by Pittsburgh architect, Tasso Katselas. The home was in need of some restoration work and attention to detail was important to us. Chris understood the look we were after and was able to assist us with color choices and design. He was the only painter who was looking at the house from it's architectual attributes and how they should be addressed. Chris's crew worked carefully to cover the property with tarps to protect the landscaping and foilage around the house. Chris places a great deal of emphasis on preparing the surfaces for painting. They sanded, caulked and primed areas as necessary. He guided us on the finishes he thought would look best on the house and we were pleased with the result. There is an exposed steel H-beam in the cantilevered section of the house that was in bad shape. (pitted and rusted) Chris spent many diligent hours working to get that beam in shape and now it looks like new. He uses only top quality products. The whole project took a little over 7 working days to complete. Chris kept us informed daily as to their progress and would call us to check-in if he had questions or concerns. Our experience with Sweet Success Contractors was a positive one and we would not hesitate to use them in the future.
Description of Work: Painted the wood siding, wooden porch (top and underneath), primed and painted the main entrance, primed/painted the pergola and trellis extensions, restored the rusted steel H-beam, painted the garage door, primed/painted the side entrance doors and installed a new doorbell.

Overall, doing business with Chris for a second time, has a been nothing but a great experience. In just a few days after my initial call to him, he evaluated the repairs. He called me that day and went over in detail all the work needed including emailing me photos and the estimated figures for each project. And within another few days, he did all the repairs all in one day. He worked hard and fast so as not to cause an inconvenience for the tenant as there is only one bathroom there. That night, he called me to go over all the details of what he had done. He was very thorough in doing so. Then he emailed me photos of the finished work and also an itemized list of the costs. Would recommend him without question to others. His total figure amounted to the lower end of the estimated amount. Very professional!
Description of Work: I asked Chris to perform several repairs on our rental house. First, he removed the bathroom tile and fixed part of the rotten wood underneath, then replaced the tile with new. On his own, in order to prevent future water from leaking and doing the same damage, he took the initiative on his own to put caulking around the tub and toilet. Second, he replaced a defective GFI in the bathroom. Thirdly, he installed a new railing on a set of outdoor steps. Lastly, he installed a piece of wood in a gap between the top patio step and the porch. He also repaired the respective railing there.

Chris did an excellent job, including dealing with a number of surprises in our old house. He was very conscientious and ingenious at figuring out solutions to those surprises/problems, and everything looked wonderful when he and his crew were finished. He's a perfectionist. He gave us a range on the estimate, and even though a few of the surprises ended up increasing the cost for parts of the work, the overall price was within range.
Description of Work: Chris did a number of things for us, the largest of which was drywall/plastering of several open spaces in our finished attic. He also built a door to a utility space in the attic, replaced three light fixtures, replaced a medicine cabinet, replaced a bathroom sink faucet and shut off valves, and primed two long cabinets/benches.

This isn't our first experience with Chris. He is thoroughly professional in every imaginable way. He shows up when he says he will, he completes the job in the amount of time he says it will take, and he cleans up everywhere. In addition, his estimates are always fair, and he never changes the price partway into the job. All top of all that, he is true gentleman.
Description of Work: Chris completed several jobs for us, which I have listed below: 1. The recent high winds in the area ripped off an eight-foot piece of siding from one side of our house. Not only did Chris replace the piece, but he also painted the replacement section to perfectly match the piece that had been blown off. In addition, he tightened one of the downspouts on that side of the house. 2. A shelf in one of our upstairs closets gave way a few weeks ago. Chris put it back in place, and it is now stronger than it has ever been. There is no chance that it will ever give way again. I believe I could do pull-ups on it! 3. A light switch in our kitchen hasn't worked for some time. It is tied in to a couple of other switches. Chris was able to fix it easily, and it works perfectly now. 4. We had a small hole in the plaster above our front door and another one in the ceiling of our master bath. Chris repaired the holes and, when he painted over the repaired areas, actually managed to duplicate the "swirling" effect of the original paint job. It was a masterful job on his part.
