The work was spread out over the entire first floor of the house, so there was a lot of time required to set up the plastic tarps to help control dust. Work was completed by a crew of 4 in about 1.5 days. They removed and disposed of all work related trash at the completion of the job and vacuumed and wet mopped all floors. Despite their efforts, there was still a fair amount of dust left behind (it was probably airborne at the time they were cleaning and settled over the next few days) which required that all walls and floors in the affected areas be washed. They were careful to seal off other areas and all HVAC vents and returns, so there was no dust infiltration into other areas of the house. The final price of the job was in line with the estimate provided prior to start.
Description of Work: Repaired 3 large openings in a plaster/drywall wall. Patched 7 4" circular holes in walls/ceiling left by electricians. Repaired over-sized hole by ceiling fixture electrical box. Patched kitchen ceiling damage caused by plumbing repair. Covered 2 holes in wall left behind by removed light fixtures. Removed and repaired a 4'x4' section of wall which had been improperly repaired in the past. In all cases, the surrounding wall/ceiling contained a texture pattern which had to be matched. The work area was prepared per EPA guidelines for working with lead paint due to the age of the building. Repaired areas were painted with a tinted primer which approximately matched the surrounding paint.

Some of my ratings may be too low. I really would employ the firm's services again if needed. I may have given too low a rating in some categories because we felt a certain amount of discomfort in dealing with Mr. Dallaba. I feel that he was not always sensitive to our issues and tended to make suggestions of additional work that we did not want done or felt to be unnecessary. We disregarded these. I repeat that we would not hesitate to employ the firm again, but I would advise those considering its services to have a fixed list of what they want done and not to be easily persuaded to depart from it.
Description of Work: Painted hand rail on exterior steps (which they had installed the previous autumn). Pressure washed two decks and stained them (after we had insisted on stain against his advice). Adjusted interior front door to house so that we could lock it. The work was done well. Our only reservations are that the price seemed high. (Mr. Dallaba says his work is not cheap.) Also, it took a long time for him to complete the work which began in autumn of the previous year. Part of the reason was weather-related. We were told that the painting and the deck treatment could not be done in cold or rainy weather, but part of the delay seems to have been because the firm was very busy when good weather returned.

The customer is correct that it took too long to finish this job. This winter’s unprecedented snow damage had me hopping trying to take care of customers that were dealing with water and mold issues. However, I did keep in constant contact with this customer about my schedule so we could get to them as soon as possible, but twice they had to delay due to issues that they were dealing with. We eventually got together, but it was way later than I preferred as well. As for the deck stain issue: the proposal that I gave them, that they signed and agreed to, stipulated a specific stain for their deck. The day I showed up to stain the deck, they handed me an inferior stain that they had purchased. I discussed the merits of the 3-5 year stain over their 1-2 year stain. They still wanted the inferior stain so that’s what I used for them. This couple’s home is on a heavily tree lined street. Their gutters were full, covered with mold, and overflowing when it rained. They even showed me a downspout that was clogged. A lot of the interior plaster repairs I do are gutter related water damage. So I suggested a gutter cleaning. They also let me know that they were trying to sell their home so I felt it necessary to press this issue. The customers thought I pushed too hard but the problem was so abject that everyone on my crew was incredulous that I didn’t push harder. Part of what I offer to customers is my extensive experience. I’ve seen too many problems with clogged gutters to have ignored this. I hope they do call me back soon to fix this. I just hope it’s not too late.

I requested an estimate to pressure wash the house. Chris was courteous and very prompt in responding to my request. He provided me with an estimate and timetable as to when he could complete the work. When he could not meet his original deadline due to the weather, he kept in contact with me letting me know when he would be available to perform the work. This company did a fantastic job pressure washing my whole house. The exterior of my house had not been cleaned since I moved in over 17 years ago. There was moss growing on the exterior, leaves in the gutter and 17 years worth of dirt on the exterior of the house. Chris cleaned all the gutters, pressure washed the house as well as my exterior doors and my front porch! There were portions of the house that he actually hand washed. My husband and I were very impressed with his professionalism and the great level of service that he provided. We will certainly use him in the future

Chris provided a very thorough estimate and walked through the proposal in detail. You can (and I did) get lower-cost estimates, but we opted for Sweet Success because we wanted the job done right. The job started pretty much exactly when they said it would, and ended on schedule as well. The result looks fantastic. Cleanup was thorough. The crew was polite and respectful. Chris was on-site the entire time, working along with the crew. They have one crew/one job at a time. Nice touch -- they pressure-washed our flagstone patio on the way out ... because it needed it. Highly recommended without reservations.

Their crew of 6-7 people (including three of the owner's high-school and college age children) scraped, sanded, and repaired the wood surfaces, then primed them and painted them with two coats. The repair work was more than had been anticipated. They were well prepared for this, having set up an extensive workshop in one of our garages (we parked that car outside all the time they worked; they covered it with a plastic tarp to insure that no paint got on it). The metal railing was scraped and sanded, then primed and painted with two coats. When this was done, the deck was pressure-washed, and then stained. They started each day around 7:30 am, and worked until around 4:30 pm. Final work on the front door and the deck railing was completed by two people, who came to our house for about an hour each time, after a day at their next job. They worked neatly, and cleaned up each day before leaving. Their one shortcoming was that they damaged a couple of plants. My wife had offered to move (if possible) plants that were in their way; they did not take advantage of this offer. The final bill was 15% above the quote. This does not seem unreasonable considering the unanticipated carpentry work that was required to replace rotting boards. It was clear that the repair work they did was needed.
Description of Work: On our two-story brick house, they refinished all of the exterior wood surfaces except for the frames of two windows that are to be replaced. This included painting window frames, doors and frames, wood walls in one area, fascia, and soffits. Where necessary, they replaced rotten pieces of wood. They pressure washed and stained the deck. They cleaned and painted the metal railing surrounding the deck.

The two best words to describe Chris and his company Sweet Success are "Professional" and "Quality" - two attributes very hard to find in many contractors. We were impressed first with his portfolio of work and felt very comfortable with his explanation of the work he would do for us. Our deck was in pretty bad condition, having gone through several DIY stainings, sandings, pressure washings, etc. When the last staining project ended up on the bricks of the house, I decided that we would pay someone to do it correctly. After several other estimates, (Chris' was not the lowest estimate but we felt it was a fair estimate for the preparation, and staining work that he intended to do for us) we definitely made the right decision hiring Sweet Success. He and his partner were prompt and spent nearly 2 full days working on our deck. The key to his work is in the preparation of the wood that Chris does which lesser contractors leave out. The entire first day of work was nearly all preparation - sanding, cleaning, pressure washing. The staining work was all done by brush, not roller, and they were very careful, neat, and thorough in their work and cleanup period after. The weather did not cooperate for us, and it rained for several days after they finished the job - we were concerned that it might dry sticky or splotchy but it was in great condition and held up beautifully over the winter and this summer. We also asked Chris to help us fix a poor painting job on the roof facing our house and he did a great job covering the wood -a year later it still looks great.
Description of Work: (1)Deck Floor/Preparation/Cleaning/Staining - Sanded of residual paint/stain on wood slats, sides, and in between boards.Applied cleaning chemical then pressure washed. Also applied two coats of solid latex stain. (2)Applied a coat of paint and spot prime front facing board on roof of house - "fixed" a poor job done by previous painter in the summer -bare boards were showing through the paint.

(07/14/2010) He was very overloaded with work and scheduled the work later in the month. He was very upfront with the way he works and we appreciated this. He came right away after we called and explained everything he is going to do. UPDATE (08/24/2010) presentation at the time of the estimate was clear, honest and professional, so we decided to wait for them to do the work. They worked through the day on Friday, and then for part of Saturday also. Coming early in the morning (before 7:30 a.m.) they power washed and scraped the old paint (or stain) off our back deck and two garage doors. They repainted the garage doors inside and out, and restained the deck everywhere. The deck and garage doors look good now. They also replaced some boards on the deck which were broken or badly worn. In all of these areas: the work on the deck and garage doors, the exterior painting, the carpentry and pressure washing, they did well. We give them an A in all of these areas. The price (over $2,000), seems reasonable given the amount of time and employees needed to do this job. They also proved to be dependable on keeping appointments when they said they would. We would hire them again, if needed.
Description of Work: (07/14/2010) He gave us an estimate for painting our deck and garage door. UPDATE (08/24/2010) Sweet Success Contractors came on Friday, August 20, to paint our deck and garage doors. As we mentioned earlier, the owner, Chris Dallaba, told us in June that they were overbooked, and couldn't come for a few weeks, but he promised to do the job this summer.

The Sweet Success employees always maintain a neat work area and cleanup at the end of the day. The work was very well done and completed on time. The job was to take 3 days, but so many additional areas of rot was found the it took 6 days. I was out of town at the time, but was emailed pictures of the different areas of damage before the contractor continued beyond his original estimate.

This report downplays the extent of interior damage. Almost every room (including inside the kitchen cabinets!) had serious surface plaster damage along with black mold conditions. I’ve never seen another house like this. The conditions existed for a long time and were not only the result of the Big Snow in February (which is when I did my estimate.) I was basing my estimate on following industry “best practices” and EPA lead rules for older homes. A reputable contractor couldn’t fix the surface AND hidden damage for the prices she was quoted. I hope they took care of the hidden problems for health reasons. And, of course, I do outside work (see my 25 exterior painting reports) just not roofs and gutters.

Chris was very quick to respond to my need for an estimate for the work on our deck. He took the time to explain everything that his team would do and did not rush out like it was a nuisance for him to be here. Unfortunately, being first time homeowners we did not understand the cost of cleaning and staining a deck. We did not contact with this company because it was not in our budget to do so at the time. I would recommend getting an estimate from Chris for any work that you need done. He seems like he cares for his costumers and has integrity for his work.

Excellent first experience. Quick turnaround for estimate. Loved the book of example "before & after work" Chris gave me to review while he looked over my project (replastering in bathroom). Detailed estimate in writing. Friendly crew on day of job. Good preparation prevented messes, but they cleaned up afterwards anyways. Work itself was done excellently. Discovered additional issue during job (behind cabinet was wallpaper), but tore out and redid for no additional cost. Final bill was slightly below the middle of estimate range. Would definitely use again.

I tried to call and obtain an estimate for wall paper removal. The person answering the phone asked what my time line was. When I told him I would like to get something finished over the summer, he said he did not think he would be able to help. When I told him I could be flexible, he did not seem interested in providing an estimate or even working with me. I would NOT recommend them. It seems that their "success" on Angie's List has gone to their head. Good luck with keeping your ratings.

This customer was indeed flexible but only for a summer booking. I obviously did a poor job of explaining to him how our scheduling works. I’m booked for big jobs into August and I have several weeks worth of pending estimates ahead of him. That means that by the time I get to his estimate, I probably won’t have any more summer openings left for big jobs. I also have no intention of disappointing my current customers by overbooking and trying to squeeze more customers in than I can handle. I can see by his disappointment that I didn’t explain that well. Advice to prospective customers: Book your summer work early! The better contractors book up fast. People call me during the winter to get on the top of the list for spring and summer jobs.

The crew was very professional and punctual over the two days they performed the work. I changed my mind on a paint color for the one bathroom after it was already finished. The owner visited the paint store with me and assisted me with choosing another color that I could be happy with. The bathroom was repainted the very same day. There is no question about customer service when dealing with this company. They are first rate and I will definintely be using Sweet Success in the future. I highly recommend.

Chris was punctual and very professional. He went over the work we needed in great detail, and explained everything he planned on doing and why, including the use of vacuum attachments to remove any lead containing paint particles during sanding. The only reason I did not contract with Chris to perform the work was because I needed it done within two weeks of receiving the estimate (I'm selling my house), and he was already involved in other ongoing projects during this time period. I would not hesitate to work with Chris on any future projects I have.
Description of Work: I received an estimate from Chris for painting my front porch comprised of a concrete floor, 3 wooden pillars running floor to ceiling, wooden railings running along the edge of the porch, as well as my back porch comprised of a concrete floor and 6 steps, metal railings running along the edge, and a wooden kitchen door. All of the surfaces were in bad shape and required extensive scraping, sanding, and/or pressure washing.

Chris and crew did an excellent job, our home looks fantastic. The house required extensive prep and cleaning, and this was all done with minimal disruption to our lives, Chris's crew cleaned up thoroughly after themselves every day. Also important to note - Chris is lead certified which is very important went stripping paint from an older home - you don't want lead tainted dust settling in your yard where your children play! Chris and his crew are all extremely professional, polite and trustworthy - I had no problem giving them access to my home while I went out. Chris has an excellent eye for detail- he even painted my back step which wasn't even on our contract, but very much appreciated!
Description of Work: After reading all the excellent reports on Angie's list we called Chris to paint the exterior of our home and refinish the deck. Scope of work: power wash front stoop and repaint. Prep, powerwash and paint all exterior paintable surfaces (railings, soffit, tudor beams and stucco). Prep powerwash and restain the deck. Replace rotten board on roof.
Contractor responded to initial and subsequent phone calls re:jobs extremely promptly, and was very informative as to the work that would be involved. Contractor kept me informed throughout the job as it was being completed, and summarized @ end of each work day. Contractor and workers arrived very promptly to start job. Contractors were very courteous and very pleasant to work with. Courteous and respectful demeanor maintained by contractor and workers throughout the jobs. Contractor is very knowledgeable about home improvement and attention to details of project. Years of experience is evident.
Description of Work: My interior walls were painted throughout my home, and plastering done in areas. Contractor also installed miniblinds in two rooms. Also did painting of doors and baseboards. Meticulous preparation and protection of furniture and wall hangings, etc. Contractor also assisted with color consultation for walls upon request. (This was 5-day job in Jan. 2010) Also, wallpaper removal. Contractor hired again in May for half day job of water damage to windows and walls (from heavy snow in Feb.) and repainted the walls
They arrived on time and did the work professionally and completed the work on time. The charge was in accord with the estimate (The toilet repairs were included even though they were not part of the original estimate.)
Description of Work: They repaired and painted some window sills, a porch ceiling, and some other parts of the house that had rotted or become damaged by last winter's snow storms. They power washed house, driveway, deck, and deck stairway and stone wall; stained the deck stairway; and replaced the insides of a toilet that I discovered was leaking just before they arrived.

(11/08/2009) Overall, Chris spent a significant time with me just for an estimate. He was very thorough in telling me how he works and learning about what I wanted. I did not hire him at that time because we were still trying to determine how large of a job we wanted it to be and the end of the season was upon us. I was pleased with his professionalism and will consider him for the job in Spring 2010. UPDATE (04/30/2010) Overall everything went well. Our quote was $1282-1567 with an Angie's discount. Final price included a $150 increase to remove a gutter. In our opinion, Chris and his crew were well worth the money for a well done job - it looks great. Chris arrived on time and remained on the job for the 2 days. He inspected his work and was planning to make some VERY minor touch ups before we even said anything. We like what he did with the aluminum siding, you can barely tell it was touched up. They cleaned up well and protected our patio and belongings outside. This is how every job should go. Thanks Chris!!
Description of Work: (11/08/2009) Requested Chris provide an estimate on painting trim and doors on the exterior to my home. UPDATE (04/30/2010) Exterior painting and sanding of front door/2 panels, back door, trim soffit/facia around front porch, pillar and facia around back porch. Pressure washing. Caulking/filling as needed. Touch up aluminum siding paint where worn. Obtain premium paint (2 colors) to match removed paint chips.
Chris has worked for us before. This time, as usual, he came, looked the work over, and gave us a detailed estimate for each part of the job. He also estimated the water damage repair after it occurred. He was forthright as usual in terms of what repairs should and should not be done and how they should be done, in terms of the best use of money. When he and his crew came, they worked hard and cleaned up well. The bulk of the work was done in a two-day period in Feb., then a one week period in late March. The work has all turned out perfectly. We are very pleased. In addition, they clean everything up well and are very friendly.
Description of Work: Chris and crew originally came to do some weatherizing and insulation work that I found necessary after having an energy audit. This work included weathering doors to the outside, insulating outlets and fixtures, some plaster work, and insulation work in the basement. With the snow and water damage due to Feb. snow, the job grew to include painting and repairs of walls and ceilings that were damaged by leakage. In addition, there were a few pieces of handyman type repairs and upgrades that he did too.

Employed this contractor to perform repairs from water leaks after the winter snow storms. Sweet Success first did a cost estimate of the of the various jobs. The damage was in four different areas of the house. Baseboard was removed so that the carpet could be dried. Then Sweet Success replaced & repainted the baseboards and finished and painted drywall. On the living level, Sweet Success replaced the drywall, replaced a window facing, baseboards and ceiling moulding. Then painted to match a solid color. The most impressive work was by their faux-painter. The living room has a faux finish (4 colors) and the dining room has a vine-pattern on the walls (3 different colors), the painter layered the paint to match the living room and layered a couple colors in the dining room and then painted the vine free-hand. The result was perfect. I increased the scope of the work by including the drywall installation. This increased the total cost, but the jobs included in the original estimate were right on target. Also, did some general handyman work which was very well performed.

We have used Chris's services in the past and will use him again for future projects should the need arise. We had some moisture and carpenter ant damage in a beam above our fireplace located in the living room. Initially, we thought it would be a minor repair. Chris detected moisture was still an issue upon his first inspection. We corrected the problem with a roofing company and Chris returned a few months later to repair the damaged beam and ceiling. He did an excellent job. It turned out better than we anticipated and we know his work from previous jobs he's done for us. The area was patched with wood and plaster and repainted to blend in with the ceiling and fireplace that he painted only months earlier. His crew is neat and respectful of your property and personal belongings. Chris calls and lets you know when he will be arriving and is punctual when reporting to the job. He returns the work site to a respectable appearance when he is finished. We have had nothing but good experiences when employing Sweet Success Contracting.
Description of Work: Removal of damaged wood in ceiling beam, removal of damaged plaster and scraped off blistered paint from fireplace. Restored the beam with wood and filler compound. Fixed the cracks around the fireplace. Primed and painted top coat of paint to blend patched work into the rest of the room.

The work went very well. Even though we did not expect to find rotted wood behind the drywall, Chris apprised me of the situation and the effect it had on the cost of the job.
Description of Work: We experienced water damage above the patio door in our family room. Chris replaced a panel of drywall above the door. When removing the drywall, he found the wood behind the drywall had rotted. He removed the wet insulation and rotted wood. He then used a fan to dry the area for 24 hours. The next day Chris replaced the wood and drywall. After replacing the drywall, he primed and painted the area. Chris was very meticulous and did not rush to complete the job. Chris also primed and painted the ceiling above both the patio doors in the family room and dining room. These areas had water stains due to the ice backup last month. Chris was very professional and the quality of work was outstanding. Sweet Success Contractors may not be the lowest bidder, but you can be sure the job will be done correctly.

Chris and team are very professional and do very nice work. They show up on time every day and are trustworthy. Plaster work is inherently a messy job and they worked with us to make sure that it was as contained as possible to make it a safe environment for my children while the work was taking place. Chris is detail oriented and will make sure that the final product looks as good as possible - I even called him back a few days after the project was complete to tell him that in certain lighting I could see a spot that didn't look like the paint blended in very well and he came back right away to fix it. This is not the first job that Sweet Success has done for us and I'm sure it will not be the last. Chris is not going to be your cheapest estimate - but he will get the job done correctly and on time which is the key differentiating factor.

They were very professional and punctual. They gave me a better price when compared to other companies and did more things for us.
Description of Work: They painted the walls and floor in my basement. They also did some dry wall repair and painted the garage.
We got several estimates, but the process they proposed seemed to be much more thorough. It involved taking the old concrete floor painting down to the surface, and their price was comparable to people who were not going to attempt that. The time they said it would take to do it was also comparable to people who were not going to attempt that. They offered us a more thorough job at about the same price and same time period. The quality was excellent. They had a flexible schedule and they let us know when they were going to come. They came when they said they would and finished when they said they would.
Description of Work: Sweet Success Contractors did a concrete floor, interior painting and pressure washing.
