My wife and I have used Chris on several occasions, and we cannot say enough about him. He is thoroughly professional and a perfectionist. He is never satisfied until the job is done to his high standards. The people who work for him are the same. In addition, Chris and his employees are very friendly, always available to answer any questions you have about the job. Our deck, in particular, presented Chris with a real problem. The last time we had the deck done (probably six or seven years ago), the guy who did it used some sort of unusual stain, which turned out to be almost impossible to remove, but Chris just kept plugging away until he had removed all of it. Every job he did for us this time around was, as usual, done to perfection. Over the years, we have never presented Chris with a job he couldn't handle, and handle well. All right, I'll stop here, because I assume anyone reading this has the idea by now. Chris is a great guy and a wonderful worker. If you have work to be done, hire Chris. You won't regret it.

We were extremely satisfied on all fronts. Chris provided a thorough estimate and an excellent description of the work to be done. He noted that he might run into some black mold, which would increase the price a bit. It turns out that this did happen -- Chris contacted me prior to continuing the job to get my approval and took photos to show me later. The repair involved plastering and painting. They custom-matched to the existing paint, and the finished room looks great. During the work they were as clean as possible, showed up on time, and were very respectful. It is also important to note that they follow lead safe practices for paint removal, which is an often overlooked safety issue.
Description of Work: Chris and his team power-washed our deck, and repaired an entry hallway that had been damaged by water.

I had the unfortunate luck of having a sump pump failure on 5/18/11 during a torrential downpour. Unfortunately just moments later, I had eight inches of water on top of my downstairs family room carpeting. I called Sweet Success Contractors and spoke to Chris who assurred me that he would be by the do an assesment on my damage. He indeed came by a few hours later and wrote me an estimate of what was needed to get me out of the mess !! He arrived then at 8am the next morning and began removing the carpeting and padding. He hauled it all away, vaccumed the puddles of water and placed fans and dehumidifiers to begin the drying process. I shutter to think what residual damage I would have suffered if he had not responded to my need so expediantly. He was professional and quite accomplished. I would definitely give this company positive feedback and hire again !!!
Description of Work: Sweet Success performed the following: 1. Provided an accurate assessment of my flooding issue. 2. Provided me a estimate of necessary restorations. 3. Removed wet carpeting and padding from the room and hauled it away. 4. Removed remainder of water from floor. 5. Set necessary drying agents.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
I honestly do not remember ever talking to this customer. I believe a mistake has been made and therefore I have alerted Angie’s List and they are conducting an investigation. The reason I’m sure I’ve never spoken to this customer is because I never treat customers that way. Read my 200 reports and no one has ever complained about me being angry and unkind to them on the phone.

We had three separate problems, all related to water damage. There was an area between our solarium and kitchen that had been repaired once before, but the problem reappeared recently. In addition, there was a discolored area on the ceiling of our front porch, and a utility room door that would no longer close. This contractor had done outside painting for us about 2 years ago and we were pleased with his work, so I called him for an estimate. He warned me that water problems were difficult to solve. After we gave him the go-ahead, he looked at the solarium-to-house connection from a second story window and from the window on our stair landing. After opening up the wall in the damaged area, he poured water from the second story onto the suspicious area until he'd identified the area(s) where water was getting in. In the process, he discovered that we had still another wet area around the stair-landing window where caulking had failed. (By now, I felt I was living in a sieve!) Similarly, he looked down from the second floor over the flashing above the front porch, found an area of failed caulk and repaired that before proceeding to clean, repair and repaint the porch ceiling. The kitchen had wallpaper that extended into the dining room and that had to be removed in order to repair damage underneath (including black mold, it turned out). Chris pointed out that the this was an insurance claim and helped us in with working with our insurance carrier. He also was helpful in selecting paint colors to use in the previously-wallpapered areas. The utility room door, which we thought was simply swollen from humidity, turned out to be thoroughly water-soaked. Finding this out led to discovering that the back porch concrete was crumbling in a couple areas and was not waterproof. The door and (rotted) door frame both had to be replaced after the concrete was patched and caulked. Then the back porch was power-washed and waterproofing paint was applied. One thing leads to another... A crew of 3 to 4 people were working here most of the time. They protected the rest of the house from dust, cleaned up as much as possible at the conclusion of each day's work, and were personable and easy to work with.
Description of Work: Repair water damage: Kitchen/solarium - removed wallpaper from kitchen & dining room, diagnosed and fixed flashing and solarium leak areas, removed and repaired damaged plaster in kitchen and solarium, primed and painted walls, trim and ceilings. Front porch: diagnosed and repaired leaks in caulking around flashing, removed damaged paint and rotted wood, repaired, primed and painted. Rear window: Diagnosed and repaired leaking area, sealed with caulk, removed damaged drywall and replaced, primed and painted. Utility Room: Diagnosed and repaired leak, removed rotted door frame and replaced frame and door, primed and painted. As part of this work - on back porch, used chemical stripper, then pressure washed porch floor. Applied concrete caulking to all appropriate areas, applied two coats of concrete waterproofing.

I repeatedly expressed my concerns about lead paint safety, etc. Chris was very professional as well as practical. Unfortunately I was not home for 90% of the work, the job was a bit dirtier than I and my roommates had expected, but Chris and his crew (of 3?) showed up when they said they would, did their best to keep things contained and completed the task in the time (slightly less) than they said they would and were on the lower end of the estimate given for the work. Expensive, but you get a good job by a professional team. If a job needs to be done right I'd trust Chris to do it. It's 2 months later and it still looks great. One event did happen. Due to the dust, the day after the crew left a window seized up and "broke" (a piece caught in the sash). I called Chris and he sent someone over right away to fix. Very happy with that.
Description of Work: Have an old victorian house (built 1910), the ceiling of one bedroom had the plaster cracked and was starting to fall (dropped 1/2 inch in ~3 months). Since about 1/3rd of the ceiling would need to be patched, Chris (owner) and I discussed it and decided it was better to replace the entire ceiling and replace it with drywall. The room is roughly 12x15ft, with 9ft high ceilings and the job was to replace all the ceiling with plaster, prime only (not paint) and meld the new drywall (ceiling) into the existing (walls) plaster.

The stairwell to our third floor was in horrible shape -- cracking plaster, plaster falling off, etc. Chris and his crew removed all the bad plaster, replacing it with drywall and saving what plaster was still good. It was a big, tall job in a small, cramped space! They ended up having to rebuild a door frame as well once it was exposed and we found there was no wood holding up one side of the frame. They painted the entire stairwell, including trim and window and reattached the handrails. They also prepared and painted a bathroom with peeling paint over bumpy plaster. We now have lovely, smooth, painted walls and trim in that bathroom. They removed the old medicine cabinet, lights and towel bars and installed two new medicine cabinets, three new towel bars and a new light fixture. In the process of the job, they fixed the little things that either came up or that I remembered during the course of the work (6 days) -- like a door that needed to be popped back into place, resetting two tiles in the bathroom, a stopper in the sink, etc. They arrived promptly (and early) and worked a long day. We're very pleased with our results!

We had some water damage around our dining room window and on the ceiling as a result of last winter's terrible snow. In addition, the previous owners of our home didn't prime the walls before painting, so as time went on, the paint in both the dining room and living room began peeling. We felt professional help was needed because all of the walls are textured plaster, and we weren't confident we'd do a good job repairing everything ourselves. Chris was very responsive to our estimate request and even came out for a second estimate after we did some pre-work on our own to help defray the cost. Chris spent considerable time assessing the job to provide the most accurate estimate he could, and he was always available to answer our questions. Once we signed the contract, it took about two weeks before the job started, and Chris and his team were on time, incredibly professional, and tidy. The team comprised Chris and two others, and the job took two full days. Overall, we felt they did a great job and are very pleased. Repairing textured/feathered plaster is not easy, and the team was able to integrate the new plaster seamlessly. We will definitely consider Sweet Success for future jobs.

Chris called us the evening of the 30th of March and true to his word he and his assistant Jason knocked at our door a little after 8:00 a.m. on the 31st of March! My mini Dachshunt Mitsie met them with her usal attitude to dog lovers, so I was once again assured of their abilities! We had moved all of the small items from the path of the work such as pictures and lamps and a small book case, and they moved our very heavy couch and end tables out of harms way! They then proceded to prepare the inside wall for their painting and discovered an area neither of us had noticed. The house previous to our ownership had a dividing wall between the livingroom and dining room which had been removed! The area on the wall where the divider was had developed a large crack which needed to be repaired before any painting could be done and that meant sanding and plastering the area! Due to fear of lead paint problems from previous older painting, Chris and Jason installed a plastic wall to protect the rest of the house from possible contamination! They then spent quite a lot of time scraping and plastering and painting the wall to such a good appearance that the crack has disappeared which had run from floor to ceiling and matched the paint so well that a person could not notice the division between the older painted walls and the new even to the rough texture between old and new was matched! On the ouside of the house they removed all of the old caulk and using a very labor intensive method got on their knees and forced a very heavy and thick caulking compound into the area between the wall and the walk way and repaired the older cement at the same time! They also repaired the caulking around two stove vents in the outside to prevent dampness and animal life from invading into my house!! The cleanup after all of their work was done so well that except for the professional repair work, you would not have known any painting or plastering or other repair work had ever been done!! The work thruout was done very professionally and Chris and Jason would be welcomed any time in our home! They even met with Mitsie's approval!
Description of Work: After a long winter of problem with dampness and water in the basement, my wife and I decided to contact a few companies for estimates on stopping the problem! All the companies contacted wanted to dig on the inside of the house wall and put a pump to eject the water and had some very high estimates! My feeling was that we had successfully kept the water out before by caulking and repairing the concrete at the base of the house and wanted to attempt that again! We had used Chris from Sweet Success before and wanted his input on the work, so I contacted him for an estimate! He made an appointment to see us on the 19th of March and arrived true to his word! While here I also asked him about some cracked paint on an outside interior wall in our living room/ dining room and he did a thorough investigation of the problrms and assured us he would be able to repair and paint that section of the wall with little trouble! Due to temperarure and weather problems, we might have to wait a while.

Both jobs were well done and look great. Chris gave us a low and high estimate with both jobs finishing near the top cost but we kind of figured that would be the case given conditions. They performed some extra work for us as part of the projects that they also didn't charge us for. Chris is a professional who wants to do high quality work and delivers!
Description of Work: Chris and his crew did 2 plastering jobs for us, one on a rental property and another on my mother-in-law's house. Both jobs had been turned down by other "plasterers" who said the jobs were too big for them. Our rental was living room ceiling at the base of the stairwell where water damage from bathroom leaks was ready to take it down. The other job involved a finished attic in a 100 year old house that had damage to the ceiling and walls.

I was happy with this company from beginning to end. The work was done on time, done well, and done respecting my property and home. I have had workers who used profanity among themselves, but I was very impressed with the young workers Chris brought to help with the job. While he was always in charge, the younger workers obviously had been taught well. I was not subjected to loud music the whole time they worked as with previous contractors. I come from a family of house painters (my late grandfather and uncle had a business), so I know about painting. I have nothing but praise for this crew. While I was not a member of Angie's list when I hired them (my sister recommended them), I wanted to get my recommendation online as soon as I joined. I would hire them again in a minute.
Description of Work: Chris and his crew repaired a damaged part of my back porch before painting the exterior of the house. They scraped the paint from the foundation stones and used a better quality of stone covering that would last and not peel (it hasn't). In addition, since one of the upper window shutters had cracked and blown off during high winds, and I could not find similar shutters to replace the ones lost, I replaced all the shutters on the house as well. I was extremely satisfied with the final job. His crew were hard-working and respectful of my property and home. All was cleaned up after they left each day and after the final day of work. They had to come back for the shutters, and those were actually put on while I was away. When I came back, I was very happy with the final job.

Our overall experience was excellent! Chris did an wonderful job counselling on color selection - we're extremely happy that we followed his advice. The repairs to the walls and ceilings are perfect - no one would ever notice that any repair work had ever been done. The work began as scheduled and took only the estimated time to finish even though we added one additional room to be painted. The team was punctual and pleasant to work with. The final cost was exactly in the middle of the estimated price range. Moreover, the additional work which we had them do was priced fairly - they did not try to take advantage of being on the job by charging excessively for the add-ons. Replacing all the electrical switch and outlet plates at no extra cost with new ones was a very nice touch. In short, Sweet success was highly competent and professional in all aspects. I would hire them again and unhesitatingly recommend them

chris outlined in detail the two phases of the job ? repair of basement, living room and bedroom water damage in the first phase, restoration in the second phase. we discovered a number of surprises along the way; chris incorporated all the new wrinkles into the restoration plan and kept us fully apprised throughout. he and his crew were informative, friendly and prompt. the price may have been higher than we could find elsewhere, but the quality and care justified it ? and chris didn't ask for any money up front. overall, it was a satisfying experience.

He was very comfortable to talk to. He was thoughtful, thorough and careful in his assessments. He gave us options so we can decide if we want to do work now in small pieces or one lump job. This is the 1dt professional of his type I have EVER known or met who was considerate and mindful of what our needs and wants are, what we can do or not do and how to plan for what we cannot do today. I felt very confident in his abilities, passion, care, expertise. He brought a portfolio to show me previous work with before and afters. In some cases, there are pictures of the work process so you know what to expect. He also let us know how long the job would take. We are definitely hiring him.
