Chris Dallaba gave me a written quote on 9/25/12 for the nine to-do tasks I needed. I was impressed with his knowledge of how to execute these tasks, his candidness on passing on tasks that were not in his area of expertise, and how he pointed out other problem areas I wasn't aware of. I was anxious to get the driveway done before winter and fortunately was able to do so even with Chris having to wait for the mason to repair several cracks in the concrete. In addition to the above five completed tasks I need some work on fixing some cracks in the ceiling and walls and having the areas repainted; replacing wood lathes on deck door to storage area, and the biggest job is to replace some boards, refinish and stain a bridge that crosses a creek. I will most definitely have Chris complete these items. The above five tasks were able to be completed in one day due to the good weather and efficiency of the workers.
Description of Work: recaulked backsplash above kitchen countertop; installed new locks on front entrance; adjusted latch and gate to backyard; removed and disposed of awnings and hardware on deck; powerwashed driveway, steps, and walkway to front door; applied chemicals to remove rust near entrance of driveway; filled open joints between concrete sections, applied 1 coat of concrete sealer

My experience with Sweet Success was very good. They did a fantastic job.
Description of Work: This company was very punctual, neat, and they did a very good job. We needed baseboards around in a bedroom where the hardwood floors were refinished. They painted the baseboards the same shade of paint to match the other woodwork in the room. The bedroom was completed painted with a neutral color. Good job. We also needed a handrail going from the first floor to the second floor. Afer the railing was applied they stained the fresh wood and put sealant

The jobs on the front porch and the third floor walls were done in the time frame we expected. He started the jobs sooner than we expected, which worked out well for us. It is good to work with someone who knows a lot about a lot, as I feel comfortable trusting his judgement if an unexpected problem arises. Our house is 140 years old, so there are always surprises when something needs to be fixed or just remodeled. Chris is knowledgeable about old structures and can judge when he can handle something odd and when he cannot.
Description of Work: Chris and his crew rehabbed our front porch ceiling, trim, poles, and front facing of the house. This involved scraping a lot of old paint, repairing ceiling wood, painting the front door and surround different colors, and painting a metal facing on the front of the house that is made to look like shaker shingles. He is as neat as anyone could be when the job creates a lot of sawdust. Chris has done work for us before, and we are very comfortable with him. He is always polite and honest. Last winter he repaired drywall on the third floor, including plaster work and painting. He repaired a structural problem in the roof that he uncovered. He installed new baseboards in a bathroom and painted them to match the walls. His painting skills and quality standards are evident, as he came back twice to touch up the front door before he was satisfied with the overall look. He always cleans up the premises when the job is complete.

My experience with Sweet Success was totally satisfactory. The estimate was what I paid and the work was excellent, in fact, better that I anticipated.

Chris was prompt, and his team worked hard for two weeks. We were very impressed with the high quality. It was expensive, but extremely well done. He did some extra work for no charge and made good suggestions on what needed to be repaired as the work was completed. You can be assured that you will receive a good estimate and high quality service.
Description of Work: Chris and his team sanded, repaired / replaced and painted the front of our wood Victorian house. He also replaced a white wood fence surrounding our front garden. The front of the house has the typical detail of a Victorian with shutters and a gabled roof. Their work was very detailed and professional. Some of the wood needed to be repalced around the gutters and the shutters alone were no small task. The house looks wonderful now. We often have people stop and admire it. Who could pass up a baby blue Victorian with white shutters and purple detailing?

Chris was very professional, took his time in writing everything up and explaining everything to me, and had a binder illustrating pictures of his previous jobs. Chris's recommendation was to replace the plaster ceiling with drywall. After getting estimates from a few other contractors, I decided not to go with Chris. I'm confident Chris would have done a fantastic job, but his price was a little high (about double what I ended up paying) and he wanted to go repair using drywall in a house where everything else is plaster.
Description of Work: Chris provided me a written estimate for repairing damage to bedroom ceiling caused by water damage (the plaster had come down and exposed the wood lath).

We have been remodeling our house for the last several years. When my wife found out she was pregnant, we wanted to finish numerous painting and staining projects before the baby came but could not do so with her in the house due to the fumes. We decided to move my wife out of the house for a week and hired Sweet Success to come in and finish the jobs all at one time. Chris and his crew were amazing. Chris brought a larger crew than I expected and Jason did a fantastic job coordinating multiple projects at once in order to limit the time needed for the job. They finished 75% of the job in the first two days and came back for a few hours on subsequent days to finish the final coats. They were punctual, very professional, and very skilled. We are incredibly happy with the quality of the work completed in such a short time. Jason's skill with staining was really impressive. I keep going into the rooms where the crew worked to admire the finished product. We would definitely hire this contractor again for our painting and staining needs.
Description of Work: Carpentry repair on porch and scraping of water damaged porch ceiling, exterior painting of porch ceiling, outdoor windows, and porch trim. Indoor trim and baseboard prep and painting in bedroom and bathroom. Staining and poly of radiator boxes, living room and dining room windows, bookshelves, bathroom door, stairway, door trim, baseboard and windows in dining room, kitchen, hallway, and bedroom.

Chris and his crew showed up on time; they were very professional; and they did a wonderful job. There is no evidence of the ceiling cracks in the house and the plaster work on the garage wall is excellent. I had extra paint for the ceilings and garage which Chris used to paint the repaired areas. They now look like new. In addition, Chris securely re-mounted our hose reel. I do not believe it will ever pull out of the wall again. In sum, I could not have been happier with Sweet Success Contractors. If a need for the services provided by Sweet Success Contractors arises in the future, Chris will be my first call. Also, the price was very reasonable for the work performed.
Description of Work: We had several cracks in our foyer and livingroom ceilings , as well as damaged plaster on the wall in the garage where our hose reel is mounted. In fact, the hose reel was pulling out of wall.

Overall, the work went well. It took three days and they stayed until the job was completed.
Description of Work: Chis and his crew removed old stain and sanded the deck down to the wood. He replaced three risers on the steps of the deck. Also repaired some of the lattice and repaired a crack in the driveway. When all repairs were completed he restrained the dek and it looks fantastic. I was very pleased with all the work he did. If I ever have work he can perform in the future, I will definitely call him.

We bought our house about a year ago. We have a great covered porch, but the concrete floor was a mess. It had chipped and peeling paint (3 layers). Chris came to my house and provided an estimate that included a few options to cover the concrete floor after it was stripped. Also, Chris provided an estimate on our deck that sorely needed to be re-stained. He also provided pictures examples of his past projects. Chris came on time for the estimate. The crew came on time and project was completed in 1.5 days. Chris provided guidance and recommendations for a unifying color between the porch and the deck. Chris knew what type of concrete waterproofing paint to apply on the floor (Sher-Crete). Throughout the process Chris provided recommendations, but never was pushy about anything. Stripping the existing paint off of the concrete was a major project and took considerable time. In the end, the porch looks outstanding. The deck was a more straightforward sand/stain project. Again, everything went smooth and the deck looks great. All work came within estimate range. Additional work for no-charge included staining the outpost structure on the deck (posts and support joist) and patching the deck with epoxy.
Description of Work: 1. Power wash, and stripped 3 layers of paint that have been applied and collected over the last 50 years on an approximately 10x20 concrete porch over garage. Filled cracks in concrete. Then, painted the concrete floor with two coats of waterproof Sher-Crete. 2. Power wash, mechanically sand, and stain deck. Reset nails and head boards on the rails. Also, filled some holes with Epoxy.

I called Sweet Success in April for a quote on painting my exterior shutters, one high attic window, and pressure washing my white aluminum sided house. I was given a quick appointment for Chris to come to my house to give me a quote, and he arrived right on schedule. I was given a written quote before he left my house and he agreed to do the work before June. The work was later scheduled to be performed on 5/21/12. Chris and his crew arrived on time, acted in a professtional manner, cleaned up after themselves, and did great work. Although Chris warned me that pressure washing an older aluminum sided house did not always get great results, I am totally thrilled with the results. The front of my white house had dark markings below all of the shutters and the side of my house my covered in some sort of mossy substance (the side gets almost no sunlight), and all of that is gone. The painting was done properly, and everything looks great. When I need work done around my house in the future, Sweet Success will be my first choice.

I would recommend them to anybody. Everything turned out beautifully. They were on time. They did the work they said they would. The owner was very honest on the estimate with a range on how much it could vary depending on what was behind the panels, instead of just saying one price. He was within the estimate even with additional work that was done. He also brought a portfolio with him of the jobs that they had done to show what type of work they had done in the past. I was very very pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: They came to my home and performed an estimate on our paneling and ended up taking down the paneling, waterproofed the area, replaced studding. When they replaced the paneling it didn't quite match so they painted it for us. They also replastered the kitchen ceiling because they noticed it was uneven and painted it after they finished replastering. They rebuilt a new cabinet to put around out circuit box.

(UPDATE)I In reply to Provider response: I don't recall ever having you look at our furnace, but I must say, the chimney is not even close to the front porch. We have our fireplace in our living room in the back of the house. In all honesty, the old paint should have been completely removed, but that's not what was in the quote and was not discussed. I am not an expert and doubt anyone would be happy with the results. We have a small area on front porch where there is clapboard which had over the winter, cracked and peeled in a few areas. We contacted sweet and they came out that very day or the next. While the response and proposal was quick, they gave general information on how it would be done. We had no idea what the possible outcome would be. We assumed they would sand off the old paint and repaint to make it look good again. Problems: We were never told they would not sand the whole surface. Only when they began the job did they explain that since it was a specific type of paint it would be too hard. So we let them go on. Next, they painted and it looked AWFUL. There where places you could see everywhere that had a build up of coats of paint where they had not sanded. We ended up with large spots that look hideous all over the area that was repainted. We were THEN told that if it hadn't been a shiny paint it might not look so bad. So why didn't they say this in the first place? They are supposed to be the experts right? In fact, they were the ones who bought the paint for us Worse yet: The caulking they used separated from the wood (or paint) that very week! They did come out right away and redid the caulking and paint, but then they tried to tell us the house (which was built in the 50's) was settling. Here is the issue we have with that, the caulking coming apart, was not consistent. It was only certain areas. We can not guess, and a settling house perhaps, but this seemed odd. Overall , not happy with the results and not happy that we were not given any information prior to spending this money on what we might end up with. We would have spent more money on having the job done right in the first place. Currently, we are looking again to get this fixed, but would not recommend sweet for this sort of job. Caulking is still sketchy as I write this review. .

There are so many inaccuracies in what I’m quoted as saying (my mistake in having separate conversations with both the mother and the daughter, should have stuck to just one of them) that I don’t know where to begin. So, I’ll just start at the beginning. I arrived to find a house with a recent exterior paint job that was done well and still in very good condition except the one area in question. I sanded, prepped, and painted only that area since the rest of the paint was still sound everywhere else. After the repair, the customer was happy with the result. Shortly after that, I got a call back, went right away, and saw that the paint was all bubbling up again. After I fixed the area again, I was curious to know if anything else could be causing the paint failure only in this area and the customer said she recently had a new furnace installed. When I checked in the basement, I saw that the chimney went right up through the re-painted area. I told her the problem was probably caused by the new furnace since one sure way to cause exterior paint delamination is from water vapor inside the walls. I also told her that the ultimate fix for this problem was probably going to involve removal of her kitchen wall for inspection of the HVAC components, a solution that she was completely opposed to. She was convinced it was the paint. What are the chances that an overall sound paint job, painted separately by two different painters, that’s bubbled twice in the area of a new furnace was caused by the painter? I’m afraid that when she calls the third painter to fix this area, she’ll have the same problem. Since she isn’t interested in exploring the HVAC avenue, she didn’t call me back but posted this report instead. I’d like to help resolve this issue but she’s not interested in what I believe to be the real problem.

I saw pictures of work he has done. He seemed professional and was highly rated on Angie's List. He provided an estimate and came to perform the work. He noted the price could increase if he came across any surprises. He also had 3 assistants working on the project with him. The first mishap was that the toilet overflowed and water came down from ceiling. He did replace a piece on the toilet and replaced the damaged tile. The work was adequate but not what I expected. It ended up being twice the original estimate. His explanation was that it was difficult to remove the wallpaper. The project took 3 days. and having 4 people work on a small room, it seemed like overkill. It wasn't that he wasn't professional, but that the price being double the original estimate and that it took 4 people 3 days to finish such a small project.
Description of Work: I hired him to take down wallpaper in a small bedroom and repaint. The room was about 8' x 10'.

It is true that the toilet leaked and damaged a kitchen ceiling tile. The customer didn’t mention any previous toilet issues so I assumed it was my responsibility to fix. While replacing the ceiling tile, we found previous water damage in the ceiling under the toilet. Some kind of toilet leak had happened in the past that the customer didn’t tell us about. When we removed the toilet I also found that the metal flange was deteriorated (an obvious long-standing problem). I went ahead and installed a new wax seal and explained that she needed a plumber to replace the flange ASAP. Out of professional courtesy I didn’t charge her anything for these services for which I was not responsible. The estimate I gave her included removal of one layer of wallpaper. Unfortunately, there was an additional layer of painted wallpaper under the top layer. After that second layer of wallpaper was removed, all of the 90 year old plaster in the room needed to be repaired. Yes, it was more expensive because all of that extra, unforeseen work took the services of 4 people. Recognize that we did everything in as timely and as professional a manner as possible. This customer had a long list of difficult circumstances, all of which were beyond my control.

This is a report for a job completed over a year ago. I actually meant to submit a report shortly after, but work got busy and this task fell through the crack. I think, though, that a review now may be even more appropriate since I now know how their work stood up to the test of time. My house suffered two spots of water damage, both were on the first floor. One was a hole in the dining room (cut open by the plumber to access a leaky pipe); the other was an area of damaged plaster ceiling from the external rain -- it was at an inconvenient spot: the landing between the first and second floor stairs (so parts of the damage was on a slant. The estimate was performed professionally. I remember that he brought a portfolio of the company's past work. While I appreciated the documentation, I wasn't actually super swayed by the pictures. Compared to the disasters shown the "before" pictures, the "after" pictures naturally look wonderful. All the same, I decided to go with Sweet Success because they took the estimate process seriously. The actual work was scheduled shortly after the estimate, in November of 2010. I was not home when they came to fix the house, but my house sitter reported that the repair process went well with minimal disruptions. The workers took care to move the furniture and cover the surfaces. There were some fine dust afterward, but that was unavoidable. The patched work was superb. For both spots, it's hard to tell where the patched part and the original part met. I was especially impressed by the nice job they did underneath the stair landing area. The lines are sharp and straight. It has now been over a year, and the fixes still look as good as the immediately "after" photos. If I should have similar needs, I would not hesitate to work with Sweet Success again.

We have used Sweet Success before. We called again. We were given an estimate (which was extremely accurate), and a paint selection tool. Types of paint required were discussed prior to the work beginning. The painters were on time, considerate of the fact that we were living in the house at the time. We were told in advance which rooms would be painted each day. All of the painters were excellent, clean up in each room was thorough. When the painting was done, all rooms were inspected and if there was a problem that area was redone. A thoroughly professional job. We would definitely hire Sweet Success again.

We had used Sweet Success before and were satisfied previously, so we asked them to do some additional work. Chris the owner came out to do the estimate and spent at least 10 minutes gently guiding my daughter towards a better color scheme choice for her room. That was greatly appreciated. The room looks really good. I came home over lunch and saw the work in progress and thought this color is not going to work out, but they applied several coats to make it look really good. They we able to start early in the morning and finish the entire job in one day, which was a big plus.

Work was more extensive that originally estimated, because damage could not be determined precisely until old plaster and wood panels were removed. However, we were made aware that this might be the case. Found termites and carpenter ants in the rotted wood, which were sprayed and removed. Also found rotted support joists in ceiling. Contractor removed all rotted material, replaced joists and sheetrock in ceiling and finished with plaster. Additional cracks were repaired, and entire ceiling was re-painted. Custom-size wall panels were not available commercially, so contactor contacted a carpentry shop to build them from scratch. New boards were placed and stained to match old panels, and coated with polyurethane. Final wall looks just as it did before water damage. Extremely pleased with the final result, and price was quite reasonable for the amount of work done.
Description of Work: Problem was water damage in living room from an outside chimney. Contractor removed rotted wood paneling and part of ceiling with water damage. Discovered ant/termite damage hidden behind wood, and removed that also. Repaired ceiling, including some additional cracks, re-plastered and painted. Obtained custom-built wood panels to match wall, installed and stained to match.

The results were great! The ceilings are now smooth and have enhanced the appearance of the rooms. Sweet Success was punctual, professional, committed to performing top-notch work, and left the work area cleaner than when they started. I would absolutely use them again for any future work.
Description of Work: We had two ceilings completely redone and a small area in a wall redone.
