I had Chris provide me a quote on 12/7/13 to repair some water damage in my master bathroom doue to a leaky sky light. The damage was to the cieling around the light and a wall that the water ran down. I accepted the bid in early March and Chris scheduled the work for 3/24 and 3/25/14. On 3/24/14 Judah and Jake arrived at my house assessed the damaged areas and began their work. They taped off the door to my clothes closet and to the master bath shower so as to not get dust and debris in those areas. They finished on 3/25 and did a very nice job. The work required them to remove wall paper from the damged wall and then put primer on the wall. Since they knew I was going to paint the wall a gray color they had the primer tinted with gray. My wife saw the color they put up and said "Why should we paint now. Tthat color is perfect!". The guys did a reaaly good job patching all the spots that needed repaired and even extending the dry wall on the sky light. The reason for the "B" grade on quality is that today when I took a real close look at some of the patch areas I could see some small imperfections where they didn't sand the patch down to be completely smooth. It's not a game stopper but none the less it wasn't perfect which for me is the difference between an A and a B. I would certainly use this company again for drywall work and want to make special note of Judah and Jake and how courteous and punctual they were and how well they cleaned up at the end of the job.

I called to get an estimate and the guy who answered kept asking me when I wanted the work to be completed. I advised that I wanted it done as soon as possible but he was rude and demanded a specific date for the work to be done. When I told him that I needed the estimate and wanted it done quickly he still insisted on a date. He finally said we're booked for the next three to five weeks and hung up.
Description of Work: He wouldn't even schedule to do an estimate.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
I always try to establish a customer's time frame to complete the work before scheduling an estimate. This customer insisted on scheduling an estimate without figuring out if I would even be available to do the work! I explained that if I can 't satisfy her time frame, then my estimate wouldn't be helpful. All she would tell me was "as soon as possible." I then responded that I'm currently booked for 3-5 weeks when she said, "Then I won't be doing business with you," and abruptly hung up.

I am writing this review after the fact, so the details are not as fresh as they could be (sorry). This was our second time hiring Sweet Success, and we plan on hiring them in the future. They were very professional, and worked to accommodate our schedule and our idiosyncrasies. The first phase involved removing the rotted wood from the deck--the wood underneath the built-in planters had rotted, which was not evident before the start of the project--so we went over budget due to wood costs, which we knew was likely beforehand. This was explained well, and several times during the project so that it was not a surprise at the end. The stairs were a surprise--they were quite rotted and needed to be rebuilt. They also removed the hot tub and power-washed the deck. The carpentry was spectacular and I was relieved to be free of the old hot tub. The power-washing appeared to be very thorough. The prior refinishing had used an unusual (Sikkens) solid-color product--we were advised that it was better to use that product again, as it would be impractical to fully remove it from our deck. We like the look so this was fine, but it underscored the importance of choosing the right contractor--Chris demonstrated a good working knowledge of our options and . The second phase consisted of painting (staining?) the entire deck and removing old lighting fixtures. Not much to say, other than the final result looks great. We were very happy with how it turned out, especially compared with how it was before. We were very pleased with our experience Chris Dallaba and Sweet Success Contractors.
Description of Work: Repaired and refinished our deck, which was previously neglected following a botched refinishing by a different contractor. This included removing / replacing rotted wood, removing two planters, removing old lighting, removing and disposing of an old hot tub (including it's electrical wiring), repairing the deck stairs, and applying stain product. Work took place in two phases (in July and then in September), to permit the new wood time to season before staining it.

All the work was done well . But some finish work was done sloppily. Outlets were left hanging without covers, all of the nails on the shelves we're exposed instead of calked, smoothed over then painted. The weather strip was replaced around a door but light and air still come in. The overall job was good but we think for the cost of the job more care should have been taken. It is the finish that customers look for.
Description of Work: Lots of work in the basement, replacing studs , insulating, putting up new drywall painting plus some plumbing work, a new storm door and building shelves.

Overall, the project went well. Chris estimated that the full project would take two weeks and cost between $12,000-$16,000, depending on what surprises the crew finds along the way. He was basically on target. The full project took two weeks and a couple of extra days; there was a couple of unexpected surprises, so the final cost ended up being a little higher than the upper bound, but still within reason. Everyone in the crew was professional. They try to keep disturbances around the rest of the house to a minimal (though for a project of this size, it is impossible to not have equipments and drop cloths all around the house, and dust particles will get everywhere no matter how careful they are -- I think that if I were to do it over, I'd arrange for the project to take place when I'm out of town). There was a major additional stress factor in the middle of the project -- on one very cold Thursday, my ancient heater decided that that was a good time to give up and die. My heating company could not install the new heater until Monday; Chris and crew had to brave the suboptimal working condition for two days. They were accommodating, and even loaned me their space heaters for the weekend. The main project was to renovate the attic space, which had warped ceiling and walls that been wallpapered and then painted over. Chris and crew did an admirable job. The old space did not have one flat surface or one right angle. Post-renovation, the rooms look refreshed and streamlined. During the project, Chris noticed that there was a plaster crack underneath the landing to the attic. He expected it to be an easy patch, but upon further inspection, it turned out that the flight of stairs to the attic was never properly attached the the frame of the house. The weight of the stairs on the beam across the landing was causing the crack. To fix this properly, they had to insert additional supports for the stairs. This ended up being an additional multi-day project that I was not expecting, and probably the most stressful part of the entire endeavor. Nonetheless, I'm glad that they noticed the problem and was able to fix it. In summary, I'd be happy to have Chris work on my house again in the future. Their price is perhaps not the most competitive, but I trust them. They care about the details, and they don't cut corners. In the end, that is what I want in a contractor.
Description of Work: 1) patched dry wall (there were holes due to insulation installation) 2) major work in the attic, including leveling the ceiling, smoothing the wall, painting (3 rooms), and some light carpentry (fixing floor trim, fitting a small door for an electrical access panel). 3) fixed a flight of stairs that was not properly attached to the frame of the house 4) minor issues around the house

Everything went as planned. We have an older Squirrel Hill home with lots of unknown problems. Chris and his crew were just wonderful. They arrived at 7am sharp every morning and worked non stop until 4:30. We have used Sweet Success in the past to repair and repaint stucco. We will certainly use them again. Chris is honest, a rare quality in contractors. He will tell you the truth, like it or not :-). My husband and I give him and his crew an A++ rating Tony and Linda
Description of Work: Completely re-did our basement. Removed the drywall and studs they were water soaked and rotted. Replaced studs. insulated, put up new drywall, skimmed and painted. Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
I’m glad this customer was able to do this job herself. But, I wonder how long the TVs, mounted on moveable swing arms, will stay up. She lives in an older home with plaster and lathe walls that probably seemed very solid to her. Finding the studs to hang heavy objects takes a very long time in old walls and is more of an art. I wonder if she even bothered to find the studs. She neglected to include the shelf unit with glass doors that she wanted hung as well. Glass doors need to be absolutely level using my tripod mounted projection laser level (doubt she has one of those in her garage), or they will crack. Also, being that she lives in an older home, I needed to follow EPA Lead Laws as soon as I drilled into her walls. I would have needed to do a lead test first, use plastic sheeting to contain all dust, falling or floating, use my $1000 HEPA vacuum etc… I doubt she did the same. If her TVs fall, she’s only out the cost of the TVs. If they fall after we installed them, I’m out the parts, labor, TVs and a bad report. So, I always make sure my work is secure. My 300 other reports indicate I’m thorough and quality oriented. My customers want the highest level of service available. Apparently this customer did not

The workers were prompt each day, arriving when they said they would and working full days. There worked neatly and covered everything that was not to be disturbed in the room. When they were finished, we were surprised by their efforts to clean up the work space. The work was done professionally and matched to the rest of the room as closely as possible. Quality standards were the same as if they were working in their own homes. They used quality construction and finish materials too. The original assignment was to repair water damage in the bedroom. We added the bathroom repairs and painting to the scope of the job after we saw the quality of work the guys were doing.

We had Chris come back to do a few jobs after he did such a great job on removing our wallpaper/fixing the plaster walls. He always seems to find a way to figure out what's wrong and how to correct it in a really efficient way. When we first moved in we noticed one of the walls in our basement was getting wet. He tore it down, found the crack, fixed it, and put up the wall. We've had extreme rain/snow melt since and not a drop of water is getting in. Another time he fixed the old crumbly plaster in a closet and painted it. Looks like new. Finally, our pipes burst this winter (like so many Pittsburghers) and took down part of the ceiling in our basement. We had the pipes lowered, and Chris put up a ceiling above the pipes. The ONLY negative thing I have to say about Chris is that they don't do a great job of cleaning up some of the leftover plaster residue after they're done with a project. That said, it is a small price to pay for knowing that someone is doing a great job on this old house. The walls he put up/fixed when we first moved in still look fabulous even after we have painted them. He definitely has a talent for it.

Chris and crew were scheduled for 12/30/2013 and the job was to be completed by 1/3/14. They arrived on time, and completed the job on time. The work done was exemplary, all of the scheduled work was done with attention to the family's needs. The crew cleaned up as they worked so we were always left with as clean a house as possible at the end of each day. It was very pleasant to deal with Chris and the crew members. [Member name removed]

Chris and his crew did an excellent job for us. First Chris came out to view the project and spent a lot of time going through the details of each project, asking questions, and answering ours. He provided honest opinions and suggestions to keep the price down. He gave us a range of quotes, and the final charge was right in the middle of it. One of the rooms was very easy but we needed the closet door cut to fit with our new carpet, and he did that free of charge. The other rooms needed walls repaired and multiple coats of paint due to the original dark colors. They also touched up areas the next day on the ceiling for us and repaired the second closet door. They patched all holes as well and moved all furniture in and out. Chris and his crew spent 2 full days on the job, were very professional and courteous, and completed everything that was asked. They did not cut any corners and were very detailed with their work. We appreciate the good work and will have them back for more work in 2014.

The overall result looks pretty good, except for some minor disappointments. Some of the sanded spots look gouged. I do take responsibility for letting the work wait too long, and for the mildew developing in the first place, but I would have liked to see better sanding. There was a spot missed on one of the posts, but, once again, I take responsibility for that also, because there was a temporary light hung there, and I should have removed it. The quality of the painting looks good, except for a white-on-white spot that looks like it was missed. I did not call the contractor to come fix these things, as he left extra paint for us to use.
Description of Work: The provider painted a porch ceiling and the five 4 x 4 support posts. They scraped the flaking paint and sanded mildewed areas. They took standard precautions for lead paint, since the house is older. They primed the ceiling and posts, then painted them.

.I was very pleased with this company's work. Chris came for a consultation 3 weeks after I called which was the time frame he gave me. He surveyed the job and wasn't surprised by the state the room was in. I had previously contracted with another company to completely redo a 1/2 bathroom. The walls were wall papered before they came, but they didn't bother to properly prepare them for painting. The contractor rushed through the job not allowing the paint to dry before hanging the mirror. The skid marks from his knuckles were in the wall as well as blobs of spackling which hadn't been smoothed. There was a bubbling problem caused by the old glue. I was embarassed to be in this situation, but Chris assured me they could fix it. His worker, Judah, arrived promptly on the scheduld day. He worked quietly for a full 8 hour day. He took care to cover the tile floor before painting. I had to scrub the paint speckles off the floor with fine steel wool from the previous company. I was satisfied with the job and would hire this company as my first choice next time. I am confident they can do complicated restoration work.

I cannot say enough good things about Chris and his crew. They arrived on time, covered the entire patio below the deck with plastic to minimize the dirt from sanding, worked diligently to complete the job in one day, and cleaned up before they left. The deck, which is 30 years old and was in poor condition, now looks new. Chris exhibits the utmost professionalism and his pricing is fair. This is the second home project I hired Sweet Success Contractors to perform and I will definitely use this company in the future.

I contacted Chris Dallaba of Sweet Success Contractors to repair water-damaged plaster walls and to repaint several rooms in my home based on reviews of his work on Angie?s List. Chris came promptly and provided detailed estimates of the job even breaking down the cost room by room. He was quite busy with other jobs (which is always a good sign) and so was not able to do the work for about two months. But when he was ready he called the night before to let me know that he would be starting the next day. His arrival coincided with my discovery of a ceiling water leak from a bathroom above and he and his crew cheerfully agreed to deal with this task as well. The plaster repair and painting were expertly done. The repair work involved the removal of old, painted over wallpaper and then some shoring up of a wall along with plaster repair due to water damage. After Chris and his crew were done, no trace of the water damage remained. Their paint job is also excellent. To deal with the leaking ceiling Chris?s crew cut a hole in the ceiling around the leak and thoroughly investigated the source of that leak. It turned out that the water was coming from five different sources all tied to the bathroom plumbing that sat above the ceiling. Chris and his crew made all the necessary plumbing repairs and then carefully stress tested their work by running water in the bathroom above the ceiling where the leak had occurred. The leak was gone and therefore they patched up the hole and repainted the ceiling: the problem of the leaky ceiling has disappeared completely. I have used several contractors for work on my home and Chris and his crew are among the very best. They are polite, respectful and clean up after themselves. Unlike some contractors I have used, Chris is hands on, working side by side with his crew members to both supervise and get the job done. Importantly, Chris has excellent time management skills. He told me that the job would take about six days and on the sixth day the job was done. I would definitely use Chris and his crew again.
Description of Work: Repair of water damaged interior walls, removal of wallpaper, plaster repair and painting of several rooms. Repair of a bathroom leak that had caused water to seep through a ceiling below the bathroom and then repair of the ceiling itself. Repair of several doors prior to painting.

I was called back almost immediately by the owner and we sent up an appointment for him to come and assess the damage. He arrived just when he said he would. He gave me an estimate, but made it quite clear that he was unable to provide a specific number because the extent of the damage would not be evident until the ceiling was removed. Well turns out that over 60% of my ceiling needed to be removed and mold abatement was required as well. This was done over two days. The men were nothing but professional and treated my house as if it were their own. They showed up EXACTLY when they said they would. They left absolutely no mess behind (even washed a few things I had on my counter that got dusty despite the dust cloths). The finished product looks amazing and I have a peace of mind knowing that the mold problem has been taken care of properly. I would and will hire Sweet Success Contractors for any future jobs I may have. It is nice to know that there are still those who take pride in their work and strive to keep their customer happy.
Description of Work: Removed waterlogged ceiling, completed mold abatement process, replaced ceiling, painted

I couldn't be more pleased with how this job turned out. Chris was prompt in responding to my request for an estimate and came to my house on a Saturday to look at the job. He was professional from the first phone call, had examples of his work for reference, and was helpful and courteous. Plaster repair creates a lot of dust, but he vacuumed and cleaned up as much as possible. The quality of the work is outstanding and the price was quite fair. I would absolutely hire Sweet Success again.
Description of Work: Chris repaired the plaster on a wall that had a lot of cracks and a small chunk missing, in preparation for painting.
