Chris and his team worked on our large front room as well as 2 bathrooms. He removed an old, cracked mirror from the bathroom and made our house look brand new. Highly recommended. This is the second time we have used him (first time was for painting exterior trim). We will use him again to remodel our kitchen. Very trustworthy, timely, professional, courteous, did a great job!

I had a minor emergency that Sweet Success solved in a way that is worth knowing if you are looking for a contractor to complete drywall work, repairing water damage, interior painting, etc. In our old house, under the ceiling drywall and under a heavy application of plaster, the small nails holding up an old ceiling were pulling out over time. I did not realize this and one day it all came falling down. Thankfully nobody was hurt; it did however make quite a mess in addition to leaving the attic exposed on cold days, etc. Chris and his team came in and impressed us right away. He understood the impact this was having on our living conditions and made this a priority job. In three very efficient and productive days, we had a new ceiling that looked better than it did before. This was a large project and they made it easy. I have other projects and will not hesitate to use Sweet Success again, please call me on my mobile at 412-302-3330 if you would like any additional information. Thanks Chris and team! Bob McClelland

Chris was responsive from my initial request for an estimate, and throughout the construction process. Chris was able to provide a detailed estimate, and included an explanation of the variables which could affect the cost of the job. One thing Chris did which set him apart from the other contractors was his use of a moisture sensor, to accurately determine how much drywall needed replaced. Others simply made a guess based on visual damage. The job included removal a a few kitchen cabinets, removal of damaged drywall & insulation, replacement and finishing of drywall, repainting (and paint matching) the repaired area, and re-installation of the cabinets and affected fixtures. The job was completed within 2 days, and the repaired area is indistinguishable from the rest of the room.

My interactions with Sweet Success have been exemplary. Chris (owner) is prompt, straight-forward, professional and extremely skilled. His staff is the same. The paint work he did on the front porch looks exactly the same today as it did two years ago, which is flawless. I've had bad experiences in the past with painting contractors who cut corners on the prep work in order to get the job done faster, and the results have always been disappointing. Not so with Chris. His prices are slightly higher than many contractors, but it is money I spend gladly for the quality and lasting work, not to mention the ease of dealing with such an efficient work staff. Most recently, Chris completed stage two of the job which we are equally pleased with. Our concrete porch, which is comprised of two adjacent slabs, was in poor shape with several layers of peeling paint and weather-worn patches of exposed concrete. A corner of the porch had broken away, and combined with the erosion of the seam between the two slabs, water had begun to seep into the coal cellar beneath the porch. Chris sanded the entire porch, repaired the concrete, sealed the seam and applied a beautiful waterproof porch paint. The basement is now much drier (other water seepage is due to the concrete brick wall, not the porch) and the exterior of our house is beautiful. Not only would I use Chris again, I'd also never use anyone else.
Description of Work: Job was performed in two stages, one year apart, at our request in order to spread out the cost. Stage one included repainting all exterior trim on porch and front of house. Stage two included sanding and repainting front concrete slab porch and minor concrete/masonry repair. The porch was painted with a special waterproof barrier porch paint.
Chris and his team removed carpet on the stairs and landing, rebuilt/ finished the stairs, installed customer provided wood flooring on the landing, and made major cosmetic alterations (fixed drywall along steps, added trim, etc.). All of the work was done on time in a highly professional manner. I am very pleased with the results; the flooring+ trim upstairs look better than the rest of the rooms, and the stairs look quite nice.
Description of Work: Flooring, Interior Painting, Carpeting, remodeling, dry wall
The existing structural column in the garage was loose at the ground. Chris installed a screw out type "lolly column." This involved cutting out a section of the ceiling's drywall, removing the old column, installing the new one slightly down from the original spot, repairing the drywall and painting it to match the existing color, and finally repairing the surrounding concrete. What a wonderful job and all in one day! Of course, I expected nothing less since I used Sweet Success on two other occasions (October 2012 and June/July 2013) and was very impressed with the quality of work and professionalism. I will continuing using Sweet Success as my need for his expertise arises.
Description of Work: Replaced a structural column in my garage.
Chris is quite experienced with water damage repair. He removed a vanity and toilet in the basement to repair water damage behind the wall, then painted and replaced baseboards; replaced vanity and toilet (installed new works in my toilet too!). In the kitchen, we had a bit of a time installing new LED puck lights under my cabinets (they are there, but messily installed) and dimmable LED downlights in the ceiling. The drywall and subsequent paint job work was impeccable but we had to call in an electrician to figure out the wiring. Chris has also done some small jobs: replaced rotted wood in a threshold in an outside door; repaired a small rotten patch in a bay window, and installed some foam faux "supports" I had purchased under a bay window. He and his team were respectful and friendly but professional. I think he is terrific at drywall and painting and his prices reflect that. And he knows what he is doing when treating water damaged areas. If you just want someone to paint your walls as is, Chris will not be the cheapest. But if you need drywall repair and want the subsequent paint job to be perfect, call Sweet Success.

Chris and his team were fantastic. Chris prides himself in the quality of his work, and he did not disappoint. If you are looking for cheap work, then I would not use him. But if you care about your home and want things done the RIGHT WAY to increase your home's value and appeal, then Chris is a great guy to use! We had an awful raised "swirly" texture all over our dining room. Chris and his team smoothed this walls down. It was quite a process, but the end result was beautiful. We now have two gorgeous arches in our dining room that we hardly noticed before. In other areas of the house where the texture was not an issue, they did not just paint. They sanded and mudded all spots that did not look perfect. This took our smooth walls and made them even better. The paint looks fantastic, and I believe it has added tremendous value to our home. Chris was wonderful to work with from bid to job completion. He helped us choose colors, glosses, etc... which was very helpful. He took what we said we wanted and made it happen. He also did so in the context of what would look good for our house! This aspect was very key. He knows what will look good in homes, so once he understands your desires, then he makes it happen in the context of your home. Finally, he and his team are very trustworthy. In many regards, this is the most important thing. He is an honest guy who will do what he says with respect for you home. I highly recommend Sweet Success and already have plans to use him again for painting our stairwell and upstairs.

The owner contacted us and came out to give an estimate. We agreed to have them do the work when it could be scheduled, some three weeks or so later. They called to confirm, came on the agreed upon date, and went to work. We're not talking a simple paint job here. There were some cracks in the ceiling, some water damage in an area, and a rather large ceiling to repair and paint. The job took three days. The workmen were very neat, covered everything, prepped very carefully, etc. They were meticulous and very professional. No drips, no problems. Also had them paint a tile wall in the shower. Again, very neat, excellent job. Researched to find the best product, gave us a full rundown on what he was doing. The whole experience was very professional. These guys are fussy! They are aiming for perfection. The room looks great, they were as careful as can be and cleaned up very well at the end of the project. Not the least expensive service provider, but certainly one of the best!
Description of Work: Repaired kitchen ceiling, washed walls, painted ceiling and accent wall, painted bathroom tile.
Sweet Success showed up on time. They were generally punctual. The work itself was done well and as proposed. The crew were friendly and skilled. The only complaint is that they could have done a better job keeping things clean where they worked and when they went into and out of my house. That is probably be our only complaint. I would employ them again to do similar work.
Description of Work: Scraped, repaired and repainted parts of my garage. Repaired and repainted parts of my front entrance, doing concrete repairs, scraping and refinishing. Did some work on repainting and repairing parts of my garage walls. There was prepping, power washing, some stucco work, masonry and they installed a grab bar near a bath tub. They also hauled away some old building materials as a favor to us.

Three men came at the scheduled time to fix the holes in the ceiling and drywall due to a water leak. The ceiling in the garage was repaired and repainted. It looks better than before it was damaged. The repair to the living room walls was most important to us and the holes were repaired and repainted so that it looks like there was never any damage. They arrived at 7:30 AM and were finished by 3:00PM. They cleaned the work areas perfectly. They used plastic to keep the dust and debris from scattering around the interior of the room. Chris was very professional and courteous.

Chris was responsive and easy to communicate with when providing an estimate and agreeing upon the plan. He and his team were punctual and worked very hard, completing a very large job in just two days. The finished product looks excellent and is superior to what we expected, given the poor initial state of the deck. The cost for the service was somewhat higher than what was offered by other contractors, but the level of quality was sufficiently high that the price was completely reasonable. I definitely recommend Sweet Success Contractors and plan to work with them in the future.
Description of Work: Substantial repair, sanding, and refinishing of large outdoor deck.
They are very busy, which was explained up front so we scheduled approximately a month ahead of time. They called a few days before they arrived. He had at least 6 people come and totally sand and fill existing cracks and crevices in the deck. over several days. The sanding and preparation took most of the time, which is the key to having the finish last. I had several quotes. Some people were going to do no preparation work at all, some were going to power-wash as preparation. It was amazing that all the quotes except Sweet Success would have done less preparation work than if I were doing it myself. The new coating looks amazing. The cost was higher, but I was willing to pay for having the work done correctly. Would recommend.

Chris came out an gave me an estimate on both my deck (~ 40' x 20') and my balcony (~10' x 15') to repair some rotten boards, power wash them, and re-stain. After his initial estimate, which was fairer than other contractors, I also asked him to give an estimate on installing a brand new fence to cover up an unsightly metal fence (6' high, 8' long). After letting the replacement wood season, the contractors took three days to do the job as predicted. There was construction on my street at the time, and yet Chris & his crew showed up, got everything where needed, and with no complaints. In addition, they covered my plants, including a >10 year old rose bush to protect them during the sanding. They did a very good job. The boards look like they were part of the original design, and the staining is gorgeous. The fence looks better than I could have hoped. The balcony is also nicer... so nice it actually makes the rest of my balcony (ceiling, etc) look a bit crappy.

We've had Chris do interior work for us and he did a great job, so we were looking forward to having them do the porch. The boards were pretty worn because they hadn't been restained or painted in several years and the previous owner had a dog, which really scratched them up. Chris's team sanded everything and meticulously removed and replaced about 12 of the railings along the outside. Then they painted the whole thing in a beautiful red stain that looks great with our red brick house. Chris is really responsive, explains everything, comes in at or below the estimated price, and has good people who work for him. They did a good job cleaning up too. We highly recommend them.

I have used Sweet Success before and Once again-Chris and his team did a great job. They are hard workers, clean up after themselves, and make sure that the job is done correctly. In this particular instance there was some difficulty in finding wood paneling and stain that matched the rest of the wall-but Chris persevered and it looks great. He will never be your cheapest bid-but the end result will be worth it.
Description of Work: Investigated roof leak from the inside, repaired ceiling, replaced walnut paneling, and patched drywall from interior pipe leak.
They did a great job. Their quality is suburb. As they worked around my house they found an issue with the garage door opener hitting the pipe in the ceiling of the garage and they fixed that. Chris, the contractor, was there quite a bit and I believe he physically works with the crew. He was great, very personable and aimed to please. He’s very proud of his work and the quality of his companies work is very good. They were there for about a month. There were some issues that they came back out to fixed and they cleaned up when they were done. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: They did painting throughout the house, completely redid the kitchen, new floor, new counter tops, repainted the cabinets, put in a new sink, they did some plumbing work underneath the sink in the kitchen.
Our house was built in 1940 and has plaster veneer walls over rock lath. It is textured, and over the years, several wall and ceiling repairs had been made using joint compound and drywall that didn't match the texturing, including holes made to insulate the exterior walls at 18" intervals in several rooms of the house. Chris estimated the bathroom remodel, plaster repair and spot priming only in November, but we weren't able to take the project on until spring. He came back out and re-estimated, and we added painting to the scope. He initially included additional wall preparation (e.g., whole-wall sanding and planing), trim painting, and two coats in his estimate. When we decided we couldn't afford that, he came by on his lunch hour from another job and estimated a scaled-back project involving painting in a darker neutral color that would (hopefully) require no priming and one coat of paint, no extensive wall preparation and no trim painting. This worked for us, and work began a few days later. The work was done very professionally. The three-person team worked quickly and finished ahead of time and very close to the estimate. Chris identified a few small additional issues which he fixed out of his own pocket just because he regarded it as necessary for a professional job. He was very accommodating when I asked him to add a room to paint at the last minute. The bathroom remodel involved lots of work that isn't standard for a painter, such as adding a GFCI outlet, demolishing/removing a wall mirror and replacing a toilet flange. The room looks and works wonderfully. If you have an older house and you want professional painting or wall repairs, Sweet Success will handle the job professionally and to very high standards of quality. Their expertise is broad enough to handle issues that commonly come up in older houses. If the price seems high, consider that working in older houses with plaster walls involves a great deal of care and attention to detail. Sweet Success did the job well, with no rework; that's worth the money to me.

Professional, punctual, and the price was fair. Chris is knowledgeable and a good listener. I was very pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Repair of ceilings in 2 bedrooms, major ceiling repair in the garage; painting and repair of walls and ceiling of kitchen. Kitchen lights were replaced and updated. Repair of doors to the laundry pantry. replaced blinds in the kitchen.
The wall was very wet and damaged due to leaking in the roof / around the chimney. We had already replaced the whole side of the roof several months before in a separate project and were hoping the water would be gone by now. The project started well with the removal of the wet and damaged plaster. Then the hydraulic cement was applied. This is same kind of cement used for basement waterproofing. We knew that it's very difficult to permanently stop roof leaks, and this waterproofing would slow the damage to the wall if the leak returned, even if it was a little bit pricier. Unfortunately, it seems the original leak had not been fixed with the roof. The cement took longer to dry than expected: It required several hours of hot-air drying to get it dry enough. The plaster was then re-applied and the whole wall was repainted to match the previous color. It looked very nice when complete! I hope it lasts more than a few months before the water comes back. The price ended up in the higher end of the range of the original estimate. I pretty much always expect this to happen anyway, and due to the slow-drying cement more labor was involved than expected. UPDATE - 5 weeks later: The water has returned with a vengeance. The fresh plaster is already starting to bubble a little bit, though it doesn't look "bad" yet. Sweet Success has been back out to measure the moisture content of the wall. They were just as surprised as we were at the state of the wall -- no wonder the cement had trouble drying the first time! They have promised to continue measuring the moisture content regularly while we attempt to repair whatever leak exists around the chimney. And once the moisture level reaches low enough to indicate the water is indeed gone, they'll work with us to repair the wall one final time.
Description of Work: Plaster was crumbling due to water seepage through the wall. Provider removed 100% of the wet / damaged plaster, applied hydraulic cement to the brick wall behind, replaced the plaster, repaired other cracks and holes in plaster nearby along the same wall, and repainted the whole wall. The project took two whole days.
Chris came on a Saturday to do the original estimate for a series of jobs we needed help with. After getting his estimate, we opted to wait on some and go forward with the ones listed above. He couldn't schedule us until about 6-8 weeks after the estimate, but when they were able to come, he brought 3 people with him (including his daughter) and they did the job very efficiently. We were in the house the whole time and they were incredibly respectful, clean, and quiet, which was really nice since we have a young baby and there was lots of snow outside which could have been tracked in. Their work is top quality- the railing on the basement is a work of art, stained banisters, and the shower rail looks great. We are also very happy with the closet that they cleared out because now we can actually use it to hang clothes instead of having useless giant built-ins that were probably as old as the house. The categories of work they did were: carpentry general remodeling interior painting plaster water damage repair
Description of Work: Added rails to our basement stairs, tore out built-ins in a closet and repaired the walls, baseboard, painted the closet, installed shower rail above claw foot tub, painted two places where we had water damage, secured a structural support beam in the basement.
Chris is one of the few contractors I've ever worked with who consistently answered the phone every time I called or promptly returned missed calls. His employees that performed the work were punctual and the end result looks very good; I was pleased with the quality of the repair. The initial estimate I requested was to replace a portion of my kitchen ceiling that was damaged by water; as I did some of the demolition myself and discovered additional work that would be necessary (such as repairing the walls where the drop ceiling track had been) Chris promptly stopped by to update the estimate per my request. When removal of the ceiling revealed structural damage, Chris's employees walked me through what would be necessary to repair the damage and complete the job. The additional work turned a 1.5 day project into a 3-day project, but they showed up all 3 days and worked until the job was completed. Like most of the other contractors I've worked with on home projects over the last 12 months, Sweet Success seems to be busy. I received a call from Chris a few days before the project began on 1/5 telling me that was the day they would start. While it would have been nice to have been offered a couple of date(s) for the job, as I had already called in mid-December and asked to have the project scheduled in January instead of December as initially anticipated in the interest of not having my kitchen torn apart during the holidays, and as I did not want to push the job back another several weeks until I received the next call telling me when it could be scheduled, I worked with the date I was given. I gave this review a "B" on price because Sweet Success was several hundred dollars higher on the original estimate for the repair than all 3 of the other contractors I had bid the job. I chose to go with Sweet Success anyway because Chris was thorough and professional, and provided a relatively detailed written estimate of the work they would perform, which is more than I can say for the other contractors I talked to.
Description of Work: Removed section of kitchen ceiling damaged by water from 2nd floor and replaced; repaired split joist discovered when ceiling was removed, finished ceiling and applied a coat of primer. Brought plumbing that was installed by prior owner up to code, repaired perimeter of kitchen walls where I removed drop ceiling track.
