Chris arrived when he said he would to give me a free estimate for the job. He looked at the job and explained in detail how he was going to repair the cracks in the plaster. He also explained how he would blend the repair into the existing textured plaster. He pointed out potential problems that he might experience once he started the job and how that would alter the job estimate. Before leaving Chris gave me a detailed estimate for the job. I went with Sweet Success because Chris was so thorough and knowledgeable. The job took a day and a half. Chris arrived when he said he would. Plastic barriers were set up to reduce dust and lead contamination and protect the hard wood flooring. I am extremely satisfied with the final results and how well Chris was able to blend the finished repairs with the textured plaster. He did exactly what he said he would do. All work areas were vacuumed when the job was done. Chris is a lead certified contractor. I was so satisfied I am having Chris come back to estimate another job for me.
Description of Work: Multiple cracks in the plaster were repaired in my livingroom.

I picked Sweet Success from Angie’s List, and had no previous experience with them. The reviews were good so I took a shot. It all worked well and now I’m an enthusiast for Chris and his business. In person Chris makes a very good impression, and his approach is very professional. He and has assistant were timely, efficient, informative and did excellent work. They repaired a bathroom ceiling that had been partially destroyed by a flood from a bathroom on the floor above. They verified that the condition was dry, assessed the damage, gave an estimate that turned out to virtually identical to the final cost. They repaired the supports behind the plaster, did an excellent job plastering and painting. I’ll use Sweet Success again in the near future, and recommend them without reservations.

The work was completed over four days. The crew put in full days and accomplished a lot of work each day. They diagnosed the source of the moisture problems as well as repairing the walls and ceiling. The repairs restored everything to its former condition, matching the color and type of paint and also the texture of the ceiling. In one room the type of paint is no longer made, but they mixed a paint, adding an ingredient that perfectly reproduced the effect and the color. The back porch steps look nice and are now very sturdy and up to code. Much better than what was there before, even when new. They will be back in the spring to paint them. I recommend this company as one that provides quality work, with a focus on restoration. I don't know if they will be your least expensive option, but they will provide good results.
Description of Work: Plaster, wall and ceiling damage from water leaks in three different rooms. Replacement of unsafe stairs to back porch, replacement of skirting around porch and creation of a door in the skirting to access the area under the porch.
Chris was very good about fitting me into his schedule. The work took approximately one week. The team arrived on time, and he would phone me to let me know they were leaving. After the work was complete they cleaned up and removed all debris. Chris is very direct, and paid attention to my concerns and questions.
Description of Work: I had a ceiling removed and replaced. During the work they identified a problem with a beam in the cross support. This had to be remedied. They also removed damage plaster from two areas in my living room, re-plastered and painted. There was also plaster damage to the foyer. they removed and respired the arch and ceiling area. While they were onsite, they finished dry-walling a cupboard, This is for a 140 year old Victorian.

It went very well, they showed up promptly every day of the job. They showed me every respect and courtesy. Sweet Success was very professional.
Description of Work: Sweet Success moved my heavy furniture to the center of my living room. Covered to protect the furniture and flooring. Repaired hole in living room ceiling and also damaged wall from plumbing leaks. Also repaired numerous cracks in living room walls and holes in the stairway wall. Painted walls and ceiling in living room, stairs and hallway. Finally cleaning up and dispose the debris from their job and replacing furniture to original places.
I could not be happier! Chris and his colleague provided superb input on a large and complex project and decisions. Given his skill and reputation, I think this would be a great regular service to provide. I faced plumbing, water damage, walls and paint, roofing, and exterior work. I wasn't sure what to tackle and in what order--or whether I should simply sell. Chris and Andrew were responsive, knowledgeable, thorough, and provided exactly the information I needed to prioritize and make the right choice for me. I believe I've made smart choices and spent my dollars wisely as a result of their consulting. Great return on investment for a reasonable fee.

Chris and his crew exceeded our expectations. We could not have asked for a better overall experience. Communication was excellent and any changes or issues were discussed before proceeding. They were very professional, polite, and respectful of us and our home. I would not hesitate to use Sweet Success in the future and I highly recommend this contractor for any job that requires an expert preservationist who truly appreciates how important a person's home is. A+++++ job.

Chris and his team gave me a professional and thorough estimate, instilled confidence in their ability to do the job at the highest quality, but also safely and with attention to all the appropriate environmental standards, and always got back to me very quickly. They performed the work on exactly the timeline we discussed, even a little quicker, and I was extremely pleased with the results. Chris also made sure I allowed enough time to make sure the roof had been properly repaired before proceeding with his work, which was so helpful and would have saved us lots of money had the roofer not fixed the problem (luckily this was ok after all). Chris was adept at managing expectations, personable, and the estimate was right on the money. He didn't condescend to me, or obfuscate because I'm a woman, which was a deal breaker for a number of people from whom I've solicited bids for work on the house. I really can't recommend these guys highly enough. I have already given Sweet Success' name to several people and would happily do so again. Thank you!!!!!!
Description of Work: We had extensive water damage in our dining room from a roof leak. So in addition to fixing the roof, we needed an assessment of the extent of the water damage, and a project to gut, redo, and finish a plaster job on the ceiling. This involved a tricky spot near the angle in the ceiling with the wall, and a tough to match texture.

Owner Chris Dallaba and his crew were consummate professionals – punctual, pleasant, respectful, and, probably most appreciated in this particular case, men of integrity. From the beginning, Chris warned me that with a 100-plus-year-old home like mine, it is possible that once the project begins, more problems might be found. It’s easy to view that type of caution as laying the groundwork for increasing the price of a job, but just the opposite happened. About a third of the way into the project, the team found that the main support beam for the front of my porch, hidden behind wooden planks facing the street, was rotting and crumbling. I was told that the weather was too unpredictable at this time of year to address this type of issue, and I was given the option to stop the project completely or allow only the work that could be done without disturbing the beam, which would be about half the project. I opted for the latter. Chris has since offered to provide a proposal to do the more extensive work in the spring, and said he realized that I might want to get other bids for the work. He also suggested that I get an independent structural engineer to look at my porch. While I’m not thrilled that my porch requires more extensive repairs, I deeply appreciate that Chris and team pointed out a problem that actually could have been covered over without my knowledge. Also, the work that was done on my porch floor – replacing pressure boards, sanding and removing paint, caulking cracks and seams, removing rotten wood, applying two coats of fresh paint, and doing all this in a way that should not interfere with addressing the larger issue later – looks very good. I will be receiving a bid from Chris for the larger project, and while I probably will seek other proposals also, Sweet Success is getting first consideration.

Sweet Success Contractors were a pleasure to work with and did an excellent job. The crew was professional, reliable, and timely. They worked **** ** our project and the end result was exactly what we wanted and more. Chris and his team paid attention to the details and repaired portions of the deck that were uneven (done by the original owners of our home). On our front porch, there were many areas that were worn from years of use and disrepair - Chris and his team made it look like new. The power washing of our front sidewalk was a night and day difference in how it looks. We could not be happier with the work that Sweet Success Contractors did on our home. We also thought the prices was fair and industry standard given the quality of work, professionalism, and end result. They truly are wonderful to work with and we would recommend them over and over again without hesitation.

These were intricate projects and Chris Dallaba and his team exceeded my expectations. He is an extremely knowledgeable and careful contractor, with an artist's eye. The front of our house looks better than I could have imagined and our bedroom looks phenomenal now. He takes his projects very seriously and clearly strives for perfection. I trust him greatly and I strongly recommend his company if you want a job done right.
Description of Work: Repaired and stained bedroom floor and repaired and painted bedroom wall. (We had had a large iron cast radiator removed which uncovered significant damage that had accrued over some 80 years to the underlying floor and wall behind.) Also they re-mortared and painted around our round-top front door. We had previously gone with another company who remortared the door in a very sloppy and unappealing way, so he removed their material.

Phenomenal. Couldn't be happier with his work. I recommend him wholeheartedly.
Description of Work: Sanded down and repainted concrete rails on our porch, re-cemented and repainted cracks in our cement basement walls, installed a new threshold (which required concrete work because of underlying deterioration) with weather strip. Also redirected the ductwork from our bathroom vent to blow out the soffit (before this the duct ended in the attic space but was obstructed by insulation).
Very very professional team. They show up on time, they do *excellent* work and they don't let jobs drag on. I look forward to the next time I need to use them.

Overall, we were very happy with Sweet Success Contractors. First, they did the work that we requested instead of trying to push for a replacement of the entire porch. Several other contractors that we called were only interested in replacing the entire deck and didn't even bother coming to our house to give us an accurate quote. Chris was very helpful and provided an accurate quote. The work was good quality and only took two days to complete. If/when we need additional work, we will definitely call Sweet Success Contractors.
Description of Work: We needed some repairs on our front porch including replacement of rotting floor boards, carpentry work on the railing, repairs to the front skirt boards which were separating, and painting of the entire porch.

We have used Chris to paint virtually every room in our home. He and his team have done a wonderful job. He does what he says is very honest and upfront about costs, time expectations, and what we should expect when the job is done. We trusted him so much that we left our house for 2 weeks while he did our hallway so that we weren't in his way. Our house now looks amazing from top to bottom. His bid may come in higher than other contractors, but you can rest comfortably knowing that he will get the job done well and add tremendous value to your home.
Description of Work: We needed drywall repair, painting, and mud work done on our hallway walls. We had a very thick poorly done wall texture that we wanted flattened. This required knocking down all the texture in a safe manner due to old house and potential led underneath, then loads of mud works to make the walls flat. Priming then finally painting.

As noted above, the days of work at the house proved satisfactory at many levels. Chris and his crew have always been hard-working, professional, and punctual. They are friendly and as non-obtrusive to my life as any contractors could be. They do more than I would have expected, and yet never did anything without my approval. I was shown why extra work needed to be done to make this job first-rate (e.g., replacing rotted wood that wasn't found when the original bid came in). I would hire this group if I need another major repair.
Description of Work: They did exterior painting of my deck, porch, and door frame. They repaired water damage from bad drainage, replacing a ledge, a wooden post, and stair damage, plus the interior of the porch wall. In addition, they repaired front stairs, making them much safer before painting. In addition, they installed a new mail box and offered to trim the edge of a basement door and install a bolt to allow the door to be closed, providing more security to the house. This is the work they did, but what they also did, which pleased me even more, is that my newly planted garden of flowers was preserved with great care. This is the second time I have hired Sweet Success. Chris and his crew painted my house a few years ago, and I was so pleased that he was my first choice to do the work this summer.

Chris was very thorough and thoughtfull when he assessed our job and made multiple proposals to help us decide the best and least expensive way to do it. Chris and his assistant Elliot were professional, on time, and did a great job. All aspects of the job were completed and look perfect -- absolutely seamless. One aspect of the job -- a ceiling with some water damage -- turned out to be more extensive than anticipated, but they were up to it, did a great job of cutting out and replacing the ceiling drywall, and then making it all look better than it ever had. My wife added a whole bunch of small jobs along the way, but Chris never flinched. He got them all done, at a good price. I will use this company again; in fact, we already have them scheduled to do some more work.

During painting job (see other review), Chris discovered that part of ceiling with water damage would have to be replaced. He did a great job on this. You can't tell that anything was ever repaired. It's perfect. While most of this job was interior painting, Chris also did the ceiling of our ourside covered porch. He also added vent holes, so the paint would not flake off again like it did this last time.

We hired Sweet Success on the basis of the Angie's list reviews. Sweet Success certainly has a profession presentation at the out set. However, we found it very hard to communicate with them about what we wanted. I got a much larger deck than I wanted. I asked for simple bench and got something that looks like a locker. When the spring thaw came a few months later, one of the boards on the stairs was loose -- it seems the screws never actually were screwed into wood below them. The finishing strip is separating from the bottom of the stairs. A lot of small gaps in the stain. the steps are chipping already. We are fixing these things ourselves as we do not want them back. It was very hard to get them to put up an adequate railing, even though it is code here. The workers were smokers and we had to clean up cigarette butts- we are still finding them 6 months later under things. I watched them putting their butts between the decking boards and letting them fall to the area underneath. Heaven knows how many are still under there. They used our garage to work in and in the process broke our shop vac (it appears that they dropped something on it and never told us) and when they left they took a sawsall, which we had borrowed from a friend, with them. Friend was a little miffed when we could not find it to return it. They also took some heavy work glove, which we had to insist they look for and those were also eventually returned. To be fair they did bring ti back when we called --but I would assume that a skilled worker would recognize his/her own equipment. Also, if the saws all had been ours we might not have even missed it until the next job we needed it for -- It was that our friend needed it back that prompted us to look so extensively. It looks like their core business is interior plaster and painting, not outdoor work. We made a mistake on this one and will not rehire them.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
We completed a fence and deck demolition, installation project in November and completed the staining a month later due to unusually warm weather. Some problems were dealt with along the way, among them improperly disposed of cigarette butts, which I personally picked up and apologized for and one employee is no longer working for me. The deck size was adjusted and approved by the customer we also modified the bench after the construction at no additional charge as well as installing lattice at one side, as for the lack of railing on an edge that was done due to the presence of their grill and approved. We returned a pair gloves but I can assure you did not take or break any tools if we had we certainly wouldn't have been paid for the job six months ago. Most of the complaints in the review were not brought to my attention and only became aware of them two days ago after reading the review. I was shocked after reading it and sent the client an email soon afterwards in an attempt to clarify and rectify the situation, so far no response, which is frustrating because we can't fix what we don't know about.I recommend reading some of our 380 reviews over the past eleven years and you will not find these kinds of charges and accusations to the contrary but an organization dedicated to quality and customer service where half of our clients are repeat customers.

It appears like this contractor has been burned many times and is jaded about doing any type of free estimate. I was told the cost of the estimate would be reimbursed if you went with Sweet Success, which seems reasonable, unless the estimate was unreasonable. I also have no idea what they charge for estimates, just that it would cost me. This is a great situation for this contractor but not at all for someone trying to get estimates on work.
Description of Work: I called to ask for an estimate on 12' x 6' entry way/mudroom. Was told I would have to pay for any time spent on an estimate.

Response from SWEET SUCCESS CONTRACTORS
Our company does free estimates for various repair and paint jobs but remodeling and very complicated projects involve fees which are refundable towards the project. This customer requested estimates on 2 separate projects and I explained that a consultation would involve myself a carpenter and himself plus some off site research likely requiring 1 to 2 hours and costing $75 to $150 he insisted that he only wanted a few minutes of my time and I told him that wasn't possible, and by the way I Spent approximately 15 minutes on the phone with him.
