They did an excellent job! They're very punctual. They're here at 7 o' clock in the morning everyday, sometimes at 6:30. They set up their job before they start with the materials and then they start their job, they tell you everyday what time they're going to be here. They're usually right on time because they live a couple of blocks away from me. They clean up. They come in with a dumpster. Their clean up is fabulous. They have a big magnet that goes over the ground with wheels and it picks up all the nails so you don't get no flat tires. They clean up everyday after their act. Their pricing is reasonable. Compared to when I got an estimate 10 years it was pretty reasonable. I imagine the prices went up. I got a price before like just for my one roof, main roof, and the siding was like $10000 but I have 3 roofs and they did my 3 roofs plus the siding for like 16 grands plus then they fixed part of the front roof that needed fixed. I think it was well worth the price considering what it was 10 years ago and I would only have got one roof fixed. I called them up and they told me that they would be here in a couple of days. They told me after lunch time and they were here about 12:30 and did an estimate. They're on time everyday!

AVOID Jand J ROOFING AT ALL COSTS!!! From the very beginning - it was BAD. We signed the contract, and they were supposed to begin work within the week. The start date was pushed back two weeks, then two weeks again. They started work on the first week of November 2010. The first day, they removed all the old roof materials, and covered the roof in ice and water shield. Unfortunately, they failed to install a drip edge and it started raining. After three days of rain, we realized that there was water coming in on the floor of the second story - the whole front wall (30+ feet). Jason Fish - the owner - came out and installed drip edge, which prevented water from running down the roof, and behind the fascia metal which had not been removed. The second floor was still in the process of being renovated, so we only had to replace the bottom foot and a half of the fiberglass insulation and drywall. His insurance ultimately paid us for the damage, but the contractor stubbornly refused to take responsibility and blamed our windows (Pella, installed four months earlier with no trace of water in that time). Three weeks later, the job was done and paid for. Unfortunately, the fun was just starting. After another several days of sustained rain, we discovered another leak next to a skylight. This damaged the ceiling in one of the bedrooms, and a portion of that front wall which had already been built and partly rebuilt within the last two months. After finally getting his insurance company to send another adjuster, they discovered inadequate flashing was the cause. His insurance again paid for the damages to the interior. However, the only thing done to address the cause at that time was to cover a portion of our roof with a tarp to cover the skylights to prevent further damage. The contractor said it was our windows which were causing the leaks again. Six weeks later in mid January, the renovations to the second floor were complete, and we again found that water was soaking the floor on the second story. An examination in the attic showed that water was dripping inside the house from the roof – just inside the fascia board. This damaged the remaining areas of the front wall which had only been soaked once in November, and requiring the removal of brand new carpets (installed Dec 15). The insurance company sent a clown named Paul Burgunder to check things out. He was there for nearly five hours, and could not keep anything straight. Upon arrival, he was saying it was clear that the shingles were not installed correctly, and there were additional problems he could see from the attic. After he spoke to Jason Fish, the owner of Jand J Roofing, he was saying it was our windows. More tarps were installed. The insurance company would not pay for the damages, even though we had photos of water coming in from the roof in the attic. They wanted us to tear out the exterior walls to find out if any water was coming in from the windows or the gutter. This in the middle of one of the coldest January’s in twenty five years. We declined their offer, and contacted the PA Attorney General. In March, we discovered another leak on the other side of the house. Jand J Roofing came out and caulked something. The leak persisted over the following weeks and months. Jand J Roofing attempted to address this with more caulking, and offered to replace the roof section, along with the front section which had leaked. Unfortunately, the PA Attorney General only negotiated for the front section, and when we asked Jand J Roofing for what they intended to do in writing, they wrote it up as a contract which, if we had signed it, would have released them from all liability in future leaks – and it did not even mention their intent to replace the rear slope as discussed. Since then, I have contacted the BBB, joined Angie’s List to write this so no one that is careful should ever have to deal with this company again. Update - 10/2011 - Had an independent building envelope specialist come out and he wrote a six page report of what was wrong with the roof Jand J Roofing, Owner - Jason Fish installed. Jason Fish and his crew did not even bother trying to replace a lot of the flashing, and did not install most of the products to code or manufacturers instructions - in direct violation of the contract. Jand J did not replace the rotten wood sheathing either - again, in violation of the contract. Won our hearing against Jand J Roofing, but only for half the amount of the roof. Take the above advice seriously, and just avoid the pain by avoiding Jand J Roofing at all costs. It only cost my wife and I about $22,000 dollars to replace the roof, pay experts, pay lawyers, repair damages, have another roofing company come out and replace the entire roof all over again. It's been raining a lot since they finished, and we have had no leaks! I will follow up with a report for the new roofing company. Cheers, Ron. RESPONSE TO PROVIDER RESPONSE - Lies, lies, and more lies. Two years since the Jand J roof was replaced - we never did anything with any of the siding or windows in the multiple locations that Jand J said were at fault, and SURPRISE we have had not one leak. We have all of the documented evidence (photos, contracts, etc) to support all claims made on our side (and more importantly, a new roof not installed by Jand J which does not leak at all- see my other reviews and ask yourself if I am fair). Nothing said by the provider can be proved because it is all a fabrication. The reason there is no BBB entry on our behalf against Jand J Roofing is because the BBB will not get involved once litigation starts. Jand J Roofing has no honor, honesty, or skill. They will call me names, and cry foul for being held to any kind of standard, but it's simply a reflection of themselves.

Response from J & J Roofing
I am new to Angies list today. i must say I am not surprised to see this review. But I am shocked to see the extent (Member name removed) will go to run our business into the ground. First I would like to tell you about our Co. we have been in business for 8 years. Jason was a union roofer for 15 years prior to opening up our own shop. Our foreman and 1 of our laborers have been roofing their entire lives and they are both in their 50's.. Every roof we do rec. all new metal valleys, flashing, pipe boots, drip edge, ice and water shiled and 30lb paper. It is always done to code. If we find bad wood it is replaced. (Member name removed) contract arrived in the mail to us the first week of October 2010. We told him we would be there in 2-3 weeks. In this business you sometimes get behind due to weather conditions. Work is done on a first come first serve basis. We do not collect any money until we are there to do the work. (Member name removed) contract price was $7517.00 not $9500.00 like he said. We removed all old roof debris from his roof and covered the entire deck with ice and water shield as per his request . There was a rain that weekend (Member name removed) called us on the phone and said he had a leak. The leak was under one window on second floor of house. Not in the ceiling , not 30 feet long but under one window between the ledge and the floor. It is true we failed to put on drip edge before we left that Friday. But as a rule missing drip edge will not cause a leak. Now also keep in mind that the windows were not new as (Member name removed) suggest but they were very old. They had cracked caulking all around them. He also had plastic shake siding that too was very old and cracked. But we did leave off drip edge and our ins. co paid small claim to (Member name removed). This leak was suspect to ins co. but we did leave off the drip edge so they paid. He did not have new Pella windows. Job was completed all ice and watershield, drip edge , new metal etc. (Member name removed) paid his bill. We get another call in December at 10:30 at night another leak. Jason and the foreman go to (Member name removed) house. You see (Member name removed) elected not to have new skylights installed and one was leaking. We have since changed the policy that if you get a new roof you must also get new skylights. At midnight Jason and the foreman covered 3/4 of his roof with a tarp . You see he had three skylights there and we were concerned. oh and he also had a leak under the same window as before. Not on the ceiling but between window seal and floor. The roof is done where is trhis water coming from he claims it is from the skylights. We agree that if he buys new skylights we will install for free. Then in mid Jan we were called again leak under same window . It must be the roof he says. We go down and the entire front of house is covered in thick ice. We have never scene anything like this. we remove all the ice from his house at no charge to him. The ins. co did send out an adjuster and contrary to what (Member name removed) says he can't find where water is coming in under window. the ins co. did there own investigation and found that (Member name removed) filed a large ins. claim with his homeowners the year before for the same issues. Our ins. co wanted to take down the drywall around the window to see where water is coming in. Now on one hand (Member name removed)says his entire wall is ruined but when the ins. co wanted to remove it he said no they would ruin his new wall. Our ins co. told (Member name removed) that they would pay for all repairs if they found water was coming in from roof. They also informed (Member name removed) that they were aware of his previous claim for same issue. On that very same day he turned us into Attorney Generals office. They found there to be no wrong doing on our part. There is no claim there you can check. We want our customers to be happy we then agreed that to put this matter to rest we would re-roof that entire side of house and install skylights that he provided. But, we would not be responsible for any future leaks on that side. (Member name removed)said ok but, then he started stringing us along. No you can't do it now, then he was getting married etc. Now keep in mind we still are not sure how the water is getting in under window. he would not let any one in to investigate , he would not let anyone water test window. But we were still willing to re-roof side to assure him it was not the roof. But we too had to be sure this was done. We can not keep coming back for leaks that are not ours. this was really getting out of hand. Well then (Member name removed)was still not satisfied so he called the BBB and agin you can check with them and we do not have any complaints. They felt we were doing everything we could to fix this situation. (Member name removed) refused to sign contract that stated that we would not be responsible for any leaks on that side of house. As I mentioned before there were claims on his home owners from a year prior and he refused to let any one investigate. Under these circumstances there had to be a contract stating this. 3 days before we were to go and re roof it we were served papers form the magistrate, There was a hearing and they did have an "Expert Witness" all of his claims were proved to be unfounded. There was no wrong doing on our part. But since we had a written contract stating that we would re- roof that front side we were ordered to pay him just for that. Which was good for us and we paid promptly. (Member name removed) told magistrate that he had entire roof re done and was suing us for $12,000.00 for new roof. But He could not provide a contract or rec. nothing to prove he had any of this done. He claimed the roof was being done while we were in court. i checked and it was not. We were very happy the magistrate could see the con man that he was. I have since driven by there house they did get new skylights. And oh guess what new windows.... What was done to us in this situation was terrible. We have NEVER had any issues such as this EVER from any one. Our issues went on with (Member name removed)went on for an entire year.. we did everything we could to satisfy him. We had to deal with several gov. agencys . Which all ruled in our favor. I was more than happy with the magistrates ruling to get (Member name removed)out of our lives completely. How can an individual do this to another person. Really he is willing to run a business into the ground for his own financial gain. he should be ashamed of himself for what he has done. This is not the only place he has made comments like this. I appreciate web sights such as this but not every one tells the truth. (Member name removed)could not get us in trouble with any one so he decide to do a smear campaign against us. I wonder how he sleeps at night. like i said previously call us. i willo be happy to provide you with ins. cert. ref letters what evere you want. We are NOT the fly by night co. he describes.
