The masonry project went well. I am happy with Tom Sr.'s knowledge/experience and overall work product thus far and am continuing to do work with him on another project. The issue I had with water gradually leaking into my basement has been fixed due to the work they did and I am very grateful for that. Another huge positive was that Tom knew money was an issue for me and mentioned that he could give me a better rate on parging my (100 year old) basement walls if I waited until the winter. Full disclaimer - I had to reserve the A rating because Tom pushed back doing the work on this project and has since done the same thing again for the upcoming work on my basement. I work full time and getting time off to be home while the team works is difficult for me. Tom has communicated when he needs to push the date back, but it would be better to tell the customer a later date and ask to start the work earlier than scheduled. Overall, I am happy with Tom Natalini Sr & Son, Inc. and look forward to continuing to do business with them in the future.
Description of Work: The provider removed concrete from back patio and connecting garage and refilled both while also sealing cracks in cement steps and part of cement walkway in order to fix a slow leak in my basement.

Tom repaired stucco that had been botched by another contractor and recommended a great carpenter to fix the underlying cause of a persistent leak. I appreciated his honesty in telling us we needed to involve another contractor (carpenter) to really get the problem fixed rather than just putting a band-aid on the situation. Tom communicated with the carpenter regularly and between the two of them they got the leak and repair work done correctly. So far no more leaking! We had a little trouble arranging a time for him to come do the work due to winter weather but he stayed in touch so we knew he had not forgotten about us. Great follow-through and easy to talk to.

It went great! Tom was very professional, and great at getting back to me, keeping me updated, and checking in with me. He came at the time/ time window he told me, and he was able to schedule us in very quickly. He seemed very knowledgable about the work that needed to be done, and it looks like he did a great job. Him and his crew were all incredibly nice!! He quoted us an excellent price, and upon starting the work he realized that less work needed to be done around the window than he originally assumed, and so he reduced the price for the reduced work needed. Very honest guy! Had a great experience, and would definitely recommend him.
Description of Work: Needed some spot pointing in severely damaged areas. Also needed help determining how much work needed to be done to secure some unstable-looking bricks above a window.

Very well. Tom was not afraid of the work and got back to me with a very reasonable quote. We decided to move forward and set a date in December to start. There were a few minor communication issues and work did start 2 days late, one day was canceled due to being short on workers, and the second because of rain, but once things got started Tom arrived at the same time each morning with his crew and got right to it. Most of the work was done in six days and then there was a one day delay while waiting for materials to come in. On the last day the crew accidentally damaged a water pipe and cause a slight leak. This was no big deal, there was very little space to do the work. Tom spent time fixing the leak that day and even returned the following day to make sure the pipe was in better condition then before his crew damaged it. Overall I was very satisfied with Toms work. He could improve his communication and organization, but he does great work and is a very honest person. He made sure to honor our original quote even when the plan changed, and really went out of his way to make sure the minor leak was fixed as well as possible and not just patched. I would definitely hire Tom again for future work.
Description of Work: We had a HUGE job in our basement. The original stone foundation of our house needed to be completely re-pointed and the floor joists had been fire damaged and needed to be re-supported. To make it worse, this section of our house was just a dirt crawlspace with maybe 2 feet between the joists and the dirt. Getting in there to do any work was nearly impossible, so the first part of the job was hand digging this crawlspace out to be big enough to get in there. We had three masons come (before we found Tom) who were not interested in the job because of the size and difficulty of the project.

Tom was very responsive to my Angie's list email and scheduled meeting to come that same week to discuss project. He arrived basically as scheduled but was hurried to get home and relax. He was recommended by a structural engineer but could not read the structural engineer's letter of results so we could discuss what needed to be done as he did not bring his glasses. I began reading parts of the letter and he interrupted me and said to email it to him and he would figure out what needed to be done. I had to ask for his email address. Never discussed the other items needed to be done to the room. He only stayed about 10 minutes so I am not sure how he will estimate what needs to be done. He seemed more interested in the stucco on the front chimney than the one falling off the addition. The meeting was a complete waste of my time. I will not be contacting him further.
Description of Work: Fireplace and chimney on back of family room addition removed and replaced with vent-less gas unit, stone/tile replaced on fireplace inside, insulation in crawl space to addition replaced, heated flooring installed, and windows replaced in this room.

Tom and his team were great to work with. They were fast, very tidy, and did excellent work. They also were working in unbelievably hot weather and this barely slowed them down at all and they finished the job right on schedule! Tom is really knowledgeable about masonry and brick (he has been doing this work for decades, in the Philadelphia area) and helped me to figure out how to make some repairs on the front of my house where the brick was eroding (he explained why this was happening and the best fix). Most importantly, he was very reliable and even came back a few days later to finish up the very last detail of the job (painting the brick with a sealant) and sent photos so I could see the work was happening. I have a lot of confidence in Tom and his crew and would work with them again.
Description of Work: I needed to have the cinder block wall in my backyard replaced (neighbor's cinder block wall fell on mine in a windstorm and did structural damage), cracked patio concrete (also damaged when neighbor's wall fell) removed and replaced, and also needed some bricks repaired on the front of my house.

I was very enthusiastic to hire Tom with a good price and a demeanor that gave me confidence. The work was completed as planned and on time. However, 6 months later cracks formed in the wall he had resurfaced. I texted him several times before he responded. Excuses were his son was in the hospital, then a fire. He promised to do the repair. Now, 1 1/2 years and many promises later, the repair is still not done and various other small repairs he made are crumbling. Fortunately, the structural column repair still looks good. I would not use him and nor recommend him for his lack of followup.

I had Tom come out to look at a an interior brick wall and some bricks that were falling out of my chimney in the attic. When in the attic Tom noticed that the bricks on one side of my house had deteriorated and were no longer supporting the main ridge beam that holds up the roof. He quickly provided quotes and was able to squeeze me in a few days after he came. I was very pleased Tom was able to come out so quickly as I was nervous about the roof beam going unsupported for much longer. Tom and one of his employees came in, were extremely professional and clean, and finished the job in a number of hours. I'll be calling Tom back in the coming months to finish up the other projects he quoted me on. I would recommend Tom's services to anyone needing a mason. He's been in the business a long time, is very knowledgable, and was a pleasure to work with.

Every thing went great. We had to reschedule a couple times due to weather, but Tom was very responsive via calls and text messages. He was exactly on time for every appointment and him and his crew were exceedingly clean. They brought drop cloths for every possible surface they would be walking around, and were very careful in their clean-up after the fact (I think my house might be cleaner after they came). As for the work itself, Tom explained all the issues present, and completed all the work very quickly and carefully. I would absolutely recommend Tom to anyone with any masonry issues, and am planning on using them in the future for any other projects I have.
Description of Work: Tom came and sealed a couple cracks on the adjoining wall between my house and my neighbors. He also was able to further identify and fix another source of a leak in the side of my house. Finally, he also plastered up the inside water damage and completely sealed an old chimney that was likely causing more damage.

The project went along very smoothly from start to finish, and was done with professionalism like no other. From the time Tom Sr. came by and gave me an estimate, to the last bit of interior plaster troweled down by his son, I was in awe of their work ethic, skills, and to say the least, artistry. The final product was simply beautiful. The exterior bricks that he put down to fill the gap left by the window that he removed blended in perfectly with the rest of the house. This was the case with the interior wall as well, with the final plaster finish blending into my drywall in a flawless manner. This is probably a lost art, but they still have it! The work was done quickly, and neatly. They did a thorough job prepping, and used dust cloths wherever necessary. The clean up after the work was done was thoroughly. Their prices were very reasonable. I would highly recommend Tom Natalini and Sons to whomever needed masonry work done in the future.

He was here this past Fall in 2015. He had a key, this was when the house was vacant, he had a key that I never got back. You know I've since changed the lock so it doesn't matter but, you know, I asked him a few times and he just never got it back to me. For the most part his work was up to standard, see I'm kind of hesitant with this one because there are a couple things that I may want to call him back for just to address, I don't want to like screw myself over because he's going to see this you know.

I haven't scheduled the job yet.
Description of Work: Tom came out to look at the job and assess the project. He provided a few options on how to resolve the issue (fireplace/chimney with smoke passing through gaps in mortar getting into adjacent row home). The original fireplace was built in 1960s and is not optimal size or shape for the home. Tom has an idea on how to reposition it so that it will have better draft. He is the only mason who didn't only look at my house, but looked around to see the relationship to the other buildings and determined an air-flow pattern. I am really impressed with his knowledge and skill set.

The brick facade of our 130+ year old row house was bulging out, which happens to many old houses in Center City. Installing the bolts requires opening the ceiling in the interior of the house and running the rods from the outside through 4-5 joists. Once tightened to about 50lb of torque, the star bolts keep the facade from progressing forward. Tom, his son Tommy, and crew did a great job. They were careful to lay down plastic on the floors and the furniture. They were polite and courteous. After installing the bolts, they spot pointed the brick, sealed it, and caulked the windows. They also repaired the cut outs in the ceiling. The entire job took about 3.5 days. They cleaned up after every day. Both Tom and Tommy know a lot about the bricks on the older houses in Center City. I did not give the price a grade since I have no way to judge if the charge of installing these bolts was on the inexpensive or expensive side or somewhere in between. I was mostly concerned with the quality of the work and the competency of the workers. The Natalini's deserve an "A" for this. The facade looks great. Nice family owned business.

Tom contacted me within 48 hours of my request. He left a detailed message of the price break down. After the site inspection the price was adjusted accordingly and he scheduled the work for the following week. He was on time the say of the service call and even advised me when the schedule shifted due to weather. The work was done on time and the site was left clean. I would definitely use his services again.
Description of Work: Tom cam out to fix my steps and did an excellent hob. he explained all the options and even took the time to explain the issue that arose when they had to rebuild the steps instead of repairing them. Tom had given me an estimated arrival time of 10 am and he texted me when they were leaving his shop to keep me up-to-date with his arrival. Tom and his two workers arrived a little after 10 and set immediately to work. They worked hard all day and were very good about dealing with the fact that some visitors and I had to walk back-and-forth across their work space. They work looks great and they cleaned up the site very well at the end of the day. I am very happy with everything they did and will be hiring them again!

Tom and Derin did very professional work. They made sure to excavate a new foundation for the column and put in a steel structure where wood had rotted before. Above that, they were very friendly and were a pleasure to have around. They did a few extra repairs while they were climbing around, which really helps, rather than getting up on the roof myself. They also pointed out a few things that I might want to consider getting fixed. The only two downsides: they took a long time to get on the job, but my understanding is that this is normal for masons, needing the right temperatures for their work to set. They also charged what I thought was a hefty price for the secondary job, which I really should have tried to talk them down on. Still, their work is top notch, so I think it was worth it.

Our house is getting up there in age and needs a lot of special attention. For example, our bricks were made a long time ago, during a time when bricks could not be heated to the same degree they can now. As a result, our bricks are not as strong as modern bricks, which means that modern forms of mortar (which are made for modern bricks) are too strong for them, and could crush them over time. I wanted to use this example to illustrate that common solutions often don't work on older houses. For example, if you were not aware of this problem, and noticed a few bricks that needed pointing, you could actually ruin your bricks by using the wrong mortar you bought in a store. It is remarkable how frequently repairs are made to older houses that ruin them in the long run. Even if the repairs were performed by a contractor. You really need a craftsman to do these types of repairs, someone who understands when these houses were built, what type of materials were used, and how they can be repaired. Tom is that kind of person. He is an "old-school" craftsman, who has been working on older houses for decades, and really knows his stuff. We interviewed approximately 8 contractors to repair our house, and most of them offered solutions that would actually have made our problems worse in the long run. It was immediately obvious how much Tom knew about our house when we talked to him though. He isolated every problem we had, and had the right solution for them. Tom is a little more expensive than other contractors, but I think he has a good reason for that: he simply does his job better than others, with more care, more know-how and better materials. Instead of slapping a few layers of dry-lock paint on your walls to quickly "fix" a leak (which will ruin your house in the long run because it will trap water inside your walls when it eventually does get in) Tom will actually fix your house. He'll do it with the right materials, with the right technique, and for the right price. I would certainly recommend Tom to all of my neighbors in the future.

Tom was very responsive and timely with his estimate. He was easy to work with and was understanding when we had to work with the insurance company on paperwork and the settlement. Once weather permitted, the job was started and completed in a timely and professional manner. Tom and his crew were always neat and professional the entire time. Suggestions that Tom made during the reconstruction resulted in a wonderful end result. Most people in the neighborhood have remarked to me they never thought the wall could look BETTER than the original, but it does. Tom approached the work with great skill and good humor everyday. I could not be happier with the end result and a few little extras he did to tie everything together. I have more things to do at the house, and I will surely hire him again. I cannot stress enough that his level of communication was exemplary, there was never I time I didn't receive an answer to any request within a day if not minutes. He knows his business and better yet, he knows how to run his business well. Thanks Tom!
