A home inspector advised me that I needed Star Bolts installed on my home and recommended Natalini & Sons. I contacted Mr. Natalini and he provided me an estimate. We agreed upon a price and a date to complete the work. Mr. Natalini arrived at the specified time with his crew and began the work. He was the oldest of his crew; however, he appeared to work the hardest. He oversaw the project from beginning to end. I also needed to go to the bank and my car was unavailable. Mr. Natalini offered to take me to the bank. Not only did he take me to the bank, he also brought me lunch. The work was finished in a timely manner. The work was superb. I recommend Natalini and Sons for any masonry work. I also plan to use in the future for some additional work. I was so pleased with his work that I gave him a tip. It is good to see a contractor with integrity.
Description of Work: My house was moving from the wall and I needed Star Bolts installed. It was very difficult to find a contractor that had experience in installing Star Bolts. Mr. Natalini arrived on time and began his work. He and his crew was very professional. Unfortunately, I forget to go to the bank prior to Mr. Natalini arriving and my car was not available. Mr. Natalini was kind enough to take me to the bank and buy me lunch! I will absolutely use him in the future. He is a great man of integrity.

I called probably eight "masonry experts". Of the 5 that responded, 2 told me to consult a structural engineer first (min $500.00 to tell me what I know needs doing), 2 gave me quotes from $7,000 to $9,000, and one wanted to spray some "waterproofing coating" on my stucco. Then I turned to Angie's List and found Natalini and Sons near the top of the list. I left a message and received a return call the next day. Tom showed up for an on-site and a quote as promised. Unfortunately, most of the damage was covered by recent stucco patches, so it was hard to give an estimate. He had to trust my layman's description of what was going on under the stucco, not something a professional prefers to do. I mentioned that other contractors were recommending a structural engineer, and he responded that it was not really necessary as he has had many years of experience with older, brick city houses exactly like mine, and the problem that I had was fairly common (which I know to be true, but is not a response I got from anyone else). He gave a description of how it should be handled and gave me a price range of between $500.00 and $3,500.00. I accepted his estimate immediately and we set a date for about 5 weeks later. Tom called the day before to confirm, and on the scheduled day, he showed up first thing in the morning with a son and a helper. Anyone who has called many local contractors that advertise in the local papers know what a rarity this is! No call to reschedule, no "family emergency", or just as often, a no-show. The work was done in about 7 hours as I watched through most of it. (Apologies to Tom for being in the way! It was a typical 99-degree Philly heatwave in a cramped alleyway, but I've had sub-standard shortcuts taken too many times by taking my eye off the contractor, and also I love watching the pros do what they do well! But, Tom handled my hovering with good humor.) The bricks were replaced by jack hammering out the old ones and leaving what seemed to me to be WAY too much of my house floating in the air, unsupported. New bricks and blocks were inserted and mortared. Perhaps my only reservation is that some of the replacement material was cinderblock-- I was assuming from earlier conversations that all the replacement material would be brick that was compatible with the original material. From Tom's explanation of events, I let this go and am assuming that his choice was the correct one. Stucco was re-applied to the patches both inside and out. And, my house hasn't collapsed yet. They cleaned up to where you'd never have known they were even there, and left with a check for $2850.00. My final impression was that Tom is one of those local contractors that you always hope for but so seldom find-- punctual, hard-working, fairly priced, and knowledgeable in his trade such that he knows where to take the shortcuts and where to apply the craftsmanship. I most definitely plan to call him in the future for more projects.
Description of Work: Replaced two 4-foot long by two-foot tall sections of water-damaged, decayed 150-year-old salmon brick at base of 3-storey load-bearing brick wall in my Queen Village townhouse. Also, cut 5 steel angle brackets to embed in the replacement brick to hold up 5 interior floor joists where they had decayed at the ends (where they cradle in the brick wall).

The three projects went as smoothly as possible. All work was exterior, therefore there was some delay due to weather.
Description of Work: Removed existing brick pavers and concrete slab sub pavement and replaced with compacted earth, compacted crushed stone, and new brick pavers with a herringbone pattern. Provided new stucco over existing weathered brick back yard pass through. Provided and installed new limestone window heads and window sills.

We found the company originally on Angie's List. Tom Natalini responded promptly to our telephone call and came within a week or two to give us an estimate. The stucco on the side and rear of the house was patchy, done in varying shades of off-white. The inspection we'd had performed before buying the house a year ago indicated that much of the brick needed repainting. Tom and his crew did the job in the time agreed upon, cleaned up the workplace at the end of the day, and were courteous and professional throughout.

Perfect. Tom and his son and their crew were super professional from start to finish. I can't believe it's the same house. Tom is great about returning phone calls (which is a rarity I've found with contractors, etc.). Tom is also very honest about what does and doesn't need to be done. He's also very honest about his price; he told me right up front that he isn't the cheapest, but he does do a great job. I certainly don't mind paying more for quality and that's what I got.
Description of Work: Tom and his crew put a smooth coat of stucco over my existing stippled stucco. Initially, I had wanted the existing stucco removed, but Tom said it wasn't necessary and knocked $1700 off what the initial estimate was, which I really appreciated. He made sharp edges around the windows (no small feat) and also squared off a portion of the facade that was uneven and looked like a giant hump! He's coming back to do put the same stucco up on the back of the house.

It went very well. Tom came out to do an estimate within a few days of me contacting him. He was able to start the job shortly thereafter. He always returned my phone calls same day. I was away on business when he and his crew did the work and when I returned home, the work was complete and there was no mess, whatsoever. I did not even see dust where they had plastered and sanded. In addition, he fixed an area where he found an extended crack in the brick at no additional cost. They used matching brick and duplicated the same type of masonry work as the rest of the house so the look is uniform. He was very nice to work, efficient and personable.
Description of Work: Repointing of bricks, repair of lintels and the removal of an air conditioning unit that was built into the wall. They removed the unit, rebricked the outside with matching brick and then replastered the wall on the inside of the house.

Tom came to the house to review the needed work and provided a written, detailed estimate in a very timely manner. The outside work was scheduled for 21 Nov. (with the possibility of delay due to weather), the inside work for scheduled for Jan. The outside work began 3 Dec. and completed on 6 Dec. Tom and his crew were thoroughly professional, showing a high degree of attention to detail, all work being accomplished as provided in the statement of work (plus the needed resetting of stones in the piers under the porch), and clean-up was thorough. The basement walls and lintel work was done 9-11 & 14 January. Again the work was done in a very professional manner. They even moved a set of shelves and their contents that was blocking one section of the wall in order to ensure all walls were in fact covered. Installation of the steel lintels was also quite professionally completed. High quality timely work; no hassles. They show up, are very pleasant, and do their work well.
Description of Work: 100 year-old stone/brick/frame Victorian house: 1. Removed all stone pointing on left side of porch front wall of house and re-pointed using octaweld glue, brown bar sand and type I Portland cement. Type of pointing ribbon . (Matching the look of the original pointing.) 2. Re-pointed all missing joints under front porch on house and all piers. Reset stone for 3 of the piers. 3. Spot pointed other stone and brick on side and rear of house where needed. 4. Removed all loose debris on basement walls. Rough-cast using octaweld glue and type N masonry cement from top to bottom close openings as needed (full length and width of the house). 5. Removed rotten wood supporting stone arch above storm doors and replaced it with steel lintels and brick.

In a word: Fantastic! We were very nervous about having this work done to our house and we shouldn't have been. Tom communicated with us every step of the way and the work was done in a timely and efficient manner and looks great. Tom and his employees are very detail oriented and take a great deal of pride in their work and it shows. They also came out on a Saturday to finish the job as rain was forecasted for that Sunday. They kept our house and porch area extremely clean and made the job worry-free for us.

So far we have only received an estimate of the work. We were very impressed with Tom's professionalism and his quick turn around on the estimate. We are currently trying to decide which estimate to use from Angie's List. So far, we have been very impressed with Tom and the degree of detail provided in the estimate and his ability to do restorative work as opposed to just re-building. Also, he fairly recommended that we may want to use a concrete company for pouring our back yard since that is all they do and they will likely do as good or better a job based on their experience. This seemed very fair to mention!
Description of Work: Remove all loose brownstone on front of house and steps. Repair using speed-crete, octaweld glue, type N masonry cement with bar sand one & one mix. Clean entire brickwork using dedrick 101 masonry restorer. Then power wash. Saw all brick joints ? to ? deep keeping size of brick joints as close as possible. Repoint using lime based cement to help brick from sprawling. Spray all brick with breathable water repellent one coat. Stain all brownstone; give owner samples to pick color. Apply two to three coats of bear stain. Remove all concrete rear of house. Install 3? of 1? crushed stone for base. Pour 4? of 4000 mix concrete scoring lines as needed. Spot point to brick front using lime based cement.

Tom Natalini SR came out to give us an estimate. He told us that our project was very small and thus difficult to schedule. He gave us a date one month in advance to which we agreed. A couple of days before the scheduled date, he called to tell us that (one of) his son(s) had decided to run his own business and that he would thus be unable to come out. He offered us a work date two months in the future which we declined.

I am very pleased with the work that was done. I enjoyed working with Tom, Tommy and their crew. Tommy even went the extra mile to match the new bricks to the old. This was something that I did not even think to ask for and really showed the pride that they have in their work. I cannot believe how good the match was. They did things the right way and they cleaned up every day. Oh yeah, Tom returns your calls in a reasonable amount of time. He started and finished earlier than I expected. Great experience. Will use them again for sure.

Representative asked for Saturday noon appointment. When they were late, I called. A half-hour later representative called and said estimater was "stuck down the shore" and would call and reschedule later. Needless to say, I was a little annoyed as the appointment time was at company request. Never called back. What should have happened: should have apologized for forgetting and come back at a time convenient to me.

The job went great. We had several experts come to the house, who all identified the backyard slope and lack of drain as most likely causing the leak. Tom was on time and on budget for the work. His crew was very neat and extremely conscientious. A few weeks after the work was completed there was a heavy rainfall. This caused some leaking in the crawl space. I called Tom and he offered to come out the next day. The patio was definitely fixed, so we had to figure out what else could be contributing to the leak. Tom caulked around our back door, patched cracked stucco on our wall and added caulking to where the crawl space met the door. This was additional work. I offered to pay him and he refused. He said he wanted this to work for me. The patio work was done right. He then did this additional work for which he didn't charge. That is someone who has pride in their work and goes the extra mile to make a customer happy. I would definitely use him again for any work.
Description of Work: Our basement crawl space was leaking. The brick patio and backyard close to the house was sinking (and therefore sloping towards the house), which we identified as the most likely cause of the leak. Tom reset the brick patio. This included installing heavy plastic tarring to the rear wall of our foundation and then resetting the brick patio, sloping it away from the house and installing an additional drain in the patio for rainwater.
