It was ok. There was a few problems. It was a father/son operation and that seemed to create some issues. The work worked out fine at the end, but getting to that point was a bit of a hassle.
Description of Work: He rebuilt a chimney. They also replaced some windows in the basement.

Mr. Natalini showed up on time (actually early), analyzed the house, explained the problems and solutions and provided a quote for how much it would cost. He did so in a clear, thoughtful and friendly way. As he related, he has been in the business since he was a young person and has an expansive history with all types of masonry and houses in the area. He also said that he has trained many of the other masons listed on Angie's list. I highly recommend you consider contacting him for your project.
Description of Work: Mr. Natalini provided a quote and analysis of a stone exterior and chimney during the inspection phase of our house purchase in Mount Airy. Our home inspector recommended we contact a mason to look at various exterior problems. I found Natalini and Sons via Angie's List. Thankfully, he saved us from making a big mistake. We are going to exercise our inspection contingency in the agreement of sale to cancel this purchase.
He told me that my bricks were fine and I wouldn't need to get stucco. For what he ended up doing, I thought that the price was a little bit high. They were very nice and professional and cleaned up very well after themselves. He said I would need some additional work on the back of my home but I would like for that to be completed in the spring.
Description of Work: He worked on the side of my home and did some "pointing."

We have a chimney on our roof but the fireplace/chimney on the interior of the house was removed. The remaining chimney was leaking into the roof and ceiling of our top floor. Which is why we called Tom. He was very responsive, called us back right away and got out to give us a quote very quickly. He was very friendly. Originally we asked for a quote to remove the remaining chimney altogether. Tom gave us the quote for that ($3500) but told us that it wasn't necessary to remove the chimney, that we could stop the leak by properly capping the chimney and sealing the exterior which would be much cheaper. We opted for that route. Tom's people were able to do all the work in one day about three weeks after our estimate. We haven't had a leak since. Overall a great experience.
Description of Work: Chimney was coated with glue and cement to seal and then capped off with flagstone.

Tom, Tom Jr., Luis and Tony were very professional and I was pleased with the quality of their work. The 4-man crew completed the job in 2 days. They worked skillfully and efficiently. They were also very conscientious about cleaning up and keeping dust from spreading far from their work area (covered furniture, hung plastic sheets on doorways, etc.). I would use Natalini & Sons again in the future.
Description of Work: Numerous services performed. Removed joints and repointed rear exterior stone wall at the base of my brick rowhome. Removed all wood paneling and damaged cement on rear interior basement wall and reparged with masonry cement. Installed an 8" star bolt to repair a bulge in brick wall in rear (replastered small area on first floor interior ceiling). Various spot pointing on front and rear brick walls; crack-filling in specific areas along sidewalks and gap-filling around concrete steps. Also repacked (with stone) and repaired a hole in front basement wall, filling around sewage pipes with concrete.

I asked Tom to replace & install a larger than the original wall air conditioner. He agreed to do that however when he showed up with four men he said that he didn't have the correct materials & couldn't install the air conditioner but would return to do so at which time he would then repair the wall as agreed. Natalini told me that he would have to get an entire roll of insulation to have some to surround the AC. Well, that type of insulation isn't correct for outside walls because it wouldn't be able to handle moisture. I found this out from the air conditioner installer at Sears and he also said that a wall air conditioner needs caulking for a proper fit. I informed Natalini of this. Natalini now recommends doing that in the Spring (I have been in touch withhim since last summer- its now December) because he said the caulk would freeze in the winter. For the past several months I've had problems with him getting to my house to finish the work and finally I told him to just finish the work originally agreed to and forget inserting the air conditioner part. I'd like Natalini to finish the work as specified in the contract.
Description of Work: I hired Tom Natalini to fix the exterior walls on top floor of my home, point in the front and back, cut a groove in the back so water would drain properly & repair stone pier in garage.

Response from Tom Natalini Sr & Son Inc
The member contracted with Natalini & Son, Inc. and signed our proposal not to install an AC but to do plaster, pointing, repair stone piers, make a groove in the driveway and to spray the front and rear with masonry water proofer which all of this work was completed but an area around this AC on the second floor plaster. I gave her a savings of $165.00 off the $315.00 price until the AC was installed. I told her when the AC was installed to call me so I could come back to do the repair work. This is the problem when she called me to do the work she said she has an AC that is old and not working. It is in the stone wall of her house and could I take the old one out and put the new one in. Here I thought it was not going to be a big deal that I could just take the old one out and put it right in so I never ever charged her. I thought I could do a good deed. When I got to her house and seen this new AC I know right away it wasn’t going to fit but I still wanted to help her. I told her I would need to have more time to install it and we would need to buy insulation. This is why $165.00 was taken off my price of $315.00 for the plaster work second floor bedroom. I told her after the AC was installed we could finish the plaster then she could pay me my $150.00. After a couple of weeks went by she called me saying she talked to someone about the AC and told me that the AC would need to be caulked. I told her if you need caulk it would be better to wait until spring because the caulk would freeze. I also told her it looks like a bigger job now and she would need to find someone that installs AC for a living. As you can see I am a mason not a Heating and AC contractor. Remember I never charged her to do this AC work and it wasn’t on my proposal. I tried to do her a favor. Now she is mad so she is saying I didn’t finish the work that is on the proposal. When we were done she seen all the work we did and she said it looked great and paid us in full. If the work wasn’t completed why did she pay in full? She is giving us a bad rating now that we do not deserve. You can see we have awards and great comments and an A to B rating. This is not fair when she has this AC we are still planning to complete the remaining plaster and then she can pay us the $150.00 that she owes us. If she is complaining about work that was not done I would like her to take some pictures of this because I don’t understand where it could be. I am enclosing emails of her excepting the date, her original proposal with the work stated and her canceled check showing that she paid in full which was less than the proposal because I took off her discounts. Very truly yours, Tom Natalini-President

Tom was responsive from start to finish. He answers his phone; he responds to email. He let me know what time he would arrive and called to update any delays. He and his crew arrived "in uniform" and neat and clean (a small thing, but I really appreciate that). The work was done as promised, and the site was left in immaculate condition. And it looks great too. Tom and crew are real professionals; I'm looking forward to having them work for me again.

Excellent. Before the job Tom took me on a tour of Philadelphia houses that he has done and talked about the options for our house. He and his sons and the rest of their team started on time and finished on time. The end result is beautiful. The carpenter he referred to us did a great job as well.
Description of Work: Removed Perma-stone facade on 100-year-old rowhouse. Repaired bricks and mortar. Installed three star-bolts. Installed limestone lentils and sills. Applied scratch coat and Thoro Stucco. Demolished old steps and built new brick steps. Also applied new stucco to side and rear of house. Demolished concrete patio and installed new brick paver patio. Referred us to a carpenter who worked at the same time, building a custom cornice and installing replacement windows and fence.

We had our repointing done when we moved into the house about 2 years ago, using a contractor referenced by a friend. When it started to fall apart this summer, including leaking into our bedroom, we were disappointed. We got three quotes on the repointing this time, 2 from Angie's list. Natalini was definitely the most expensive, but we were impressed with his knowledge of the history of the house, what went wrong the first time we had the work done, and detailed explanation of what he would do to fix it. He answered all of our questions and we were confident it would be done the "right way" this time, and were willing to pay extra to have it done correctly. We were very pleased with the service, and he and his team were very professional, from set-up to clean-up.

Wonderful, we love working with Tom and once again, had a great experience. We especially appreciate that Tom always takes care to look for the source of a problem and fix it (as opposed to just applying a patch). He also found some additional spot pointing needed to be done on another part of the house while doing this job and took care of it for us as a courtesy. We always know we are in good and capable hands when Tom and his crew are working on our house.

I had had a robbery in which the thieves had entered by breaking a basement/garage window. In order to prevent future break-ins I decided to replace the two windows with glass block windows. I received two estimates, both from Angie's List members. Mr. Natalni's price was $500 cheaper than the other estimate. He was extremely professional and responsive. He told me when he was ordering the windows, called to confirm when they had been completed and arrived on time on a Saturday to install them. He and his workers moved everything, cleaned the area before and after the installation and did a beautiful job. I could not be more pleased with their work. I will definitely use them again.

Natalini has no business doing pointing, and he should have been honest about that from the start. His guys, and he himself, is apparently unskilled in this area. My beautiful old stone wall looks horrendous. I called off the job halfway and lost my 50% deposit, but I still have to look at it everyday. Repairing it is going to cost double what it initially would have cost because their work now has to be chiselled out. I hired them because they got good ratings on Angie's List, but it must have been for brick masonry or something else. They aggressively sought my business, and I made a big mistake not checking them out more thoroughly.

Thank you very much, now I have to defend myself. You called, I came over on time and you were not there. I was greeted by an out of control large dog jumping on me, scratching my arms and giving me a mud bath. Your maid had a hard time with the dog, but I do love all animals. I had to give the price from the street 100 ft. away. I gave you a very low price for patching the stone; this is why the price was so low. You were not there half the time so I left you cement samples that you approved and you picked the color of cement not me. I patched your stone and did more then I was paid for. The job took 3 days so you had plenty of time to see the spot pointing. Why did you let me finish the job if you were not happy? When the job was complete you would not pay the balance; this was not fair but I let it go so I had to pay out of my pocket for the supplies and my men but I got over it. You can not have someone working with there hands and back and try to get the entire porch repointed for such a low price. Please try to take the time for the next mason and really let him know what you truly want before he to works for free. If anyone would like to read all the nice things said about us please see our straight A rating on Angie’s List and the large amount of satisfied customers. Thank-you, Tom Natalini- Owner

I had Tom Natalini come out to my house as I needed to have parts of my brick patio reset -- water was pooling such that it would seep into my basement. Tom gave me a prompt estimate, not only for this brick work but for other optional upgrades in the future (ie. repointing of my house's facade). On the day of the work, Tom's son and two other guys got the work done in a matter of two or three hours. They incorporated the new bricks in with the old ones so that the patio looked more uniform.
Description of Work: I had three areas of a brick patio taken up and reset so that water flowed into my outdoor drain instead of into my house.
