I told Company representative that I was a homeowner and competent to make decisions on the project. They refused to provide the service unless my husband was present.
Description of Work: Water Testing and Advice was offered through Home Depot. I scheduled an appointment. The Company refused to come out unless my husband was home to hold my hand. This is the 21st century!!! A woman homeowner can make decisions on home maintenance just as proficiently as her husband.

Terrible service and awful product. Every time a service technician comes out we get a different answer to the same question. Their salesman lied to use when we purchased their product. He told us the system had a 'lifetime warranty' which is not true. Whenever something breaks or needs to be replaced the technicians give you a price and when you respond that you were told the system has a 'lifetime warranty' (to their credit) they know exactly how to respond. Like lawyers they tell you to pull out your warranty so they can point out in the fine print that it doesn't cover electrical, wear and tear, etc. Makes you think that they get that response a lot so they are well prepared how to respond. The salesman told us the 'free coupons' would help the system pay for itself. But, of course after we signed the contract we found out they weren't 'free', you had to pay for the coupons. The salesman also told us that we could pay it off using a credit card to take advantage of our reward points - also untrue. American Finco does their financing and they are not a 'credit card company' so they would not let us pay off the invoice with a credit card. The salesman said we would only need a 'capful' of detergent to wash clothes - also not true, unless you are washing only 1 sock that much would be enough! And the list goes on and on. When they installed it they shoved the output hose that takes all the dirty, recycled water out to our dry well into the existing pipe. But it didn't fit so when it backwashed all the iron water poured down the basement wall onto the carpeted floor and permanently stained everything. We had to rip up the carpeting. Of course, they never reimbursed us for the damage. We've been paying $600 per year to have the tanks repacked. We just had them repacked less than 2 months ago and we started having a problem with the water - it smelled and tasted like iron and it was staining everything (sinks, toilets, etc.). It took them almost a week to come out. First the technician said that one of the tanks wasn't working properly so he dumped all the contents of it in my driveway and then re-packed it - this took about 10 minutes. Which leads me to wonder why I pay $600 per year for this. Then when that didn't do the trick he told us that we should have had 'back flow preventer valves' put in and that is probably causing the problem. I told him that since Professional Water put in the system then why didn't they install the 'back flow preventer valve'? Then finally he decided to up the level of salt the system uses to see if he can get rid of the iron problem (which we told him that the previous technical had already had it turned up to high). Well, low and behold he realized that the 'timing plate' was broken and no longer enabled it to go through the complete recycle process. A new 'timing plate' was only $1,390 and would include a 'lifetime warranty' and it would automatically recycle the water when needed based on usage rather than the setting the timer to recycle every other day (I should note the timer has 6 buttons for a 7 day week!). I told him that my old system already had that capability - it only recycled when it needed to - and I already knew their 'lifetime warranty' was a lie because if the system had a lifetime warranty like they told me when I purchased it that they would have replaced the timing plate for no charge. I told him to disconnect it. After wasting over $12,000 over the years I'm not spending 1 more penny on Professional Water. Most disreputable company that I have every worked with as a homeowner.

After noticing only one horrible review for this company I felt I needed to give my positive feedback to Angie's list since I have dealt with this company on a yearly basis since they installed my water softening system 11 years ago. I remember that when we got the unit the sales tactics were a little high pressure and some price jockeying occurred but the unit that they sold me has been great and so has their service over the last 11 years. They even call to remind me when my filters are due for replacement so I don't have to keep track of that detail. Other than the fact that their service call price seems high to me I've been satisfied with their work.
Description of Work: I had Pete from Professional Water Services out to repair a leak in my 11 year old water softening system and replace filters. He was very professional and explained what he was doing to correct the problem. He also suggested that I have my water pressure checked as he thought it seemed high and that could have caused the leak and other problems. Sure enough when I called the water company my pressure was higher than it should be so I will need a valve to correct that problem so that suggestion was very helpful.

While at Home Depot, signed up to be contacted about a water softener system when approached by a Home Depot employee. Professional Water Services, Inc. out of Bristol, PA contacted us and we scheduled an appointment for Monday, August 1st. The sales rep arrived at 5:45 pm and spent over three hours with a very hard sales pitch. Around 9pm we were very tired and hungry as we had not eaten. The Home Depot employee had said the appointment would last 45 minutes. The sales rep at 9pm finally gave the sales price... it was $11,999.00. We were shocked as that amount did not even appear to be realistic! The sales rep said PWSI had partnered with Home Depot to gain a competitive edge against Lowes and asked if we felt good about the long-term security of Home Depot, we said yes. We said we were really disappointed as we liked the system, but said we would spend no more than $5,000. The sales rep dropped the price to $7500, we said no. He then called his Manager, we spoke to him and he eventually dropped the price to $5000 - a 62% price decline. In part because we were so tired we signed the contract and installation was scheduled for the next day. The next morning after we had thought about the sales pitch and the incredibly long hard sales pitch, had a good night's sleep and eaten we called the company and left a message canceling the installation. PWSI to their credit did not show up to install the unit. They called and left a message for me to call them did so and got an answering machine. We have priced other comparable systems at $4,000.00. PWSI has a clean BBB record, but if you call them I recommend you first search prices elsewhere and be prepared for a very long and hard sales pitch. Or contact the companies through Angie's list and save yourself some aggravation.
