THE PROBLEM: Total misrepresentation of his moral character and his billing. He totally tells me his life story, including living out of his car when he was a teenager, that he has at least 2 spec. homes sitting vacant and that he is filing for bankruptcy to the tune of 1 million $$$. This person was hired in good faith despite this because we were told by a very reliable source this person was just hit by the hard times in the real estate market. His creditors were working with him. The job started out very strong and solid and totally ahead of schedule. Mid-way, he started to balk at the payment timing and what was owed. He sat down with my husband at least 3 times to go over the huge discrepancies. Then, he would complain to me that my husband could pay more than what he was charging and that we were getting a huge deal. The work continued well until May when this person felt he was behind and couldn't pay the rest of his sub-contractors. We told him he was current in his payments and after a few heated phone calls, he canceled the rest of our carpet, final electric and about $1,000 worth of post-construction cleanup. We are now being billed by the carpet company, electrician and the supply/lumber company (who he owes $$$ from past jobs). While the work was being done, he refused my request of hanging plastic in the general traffic areas to reduce dust because he felt it would get in his way. He also pressured me into discussions about asking my husband about a kitchen renovation for about $60,000 "since I'm here anyhow and your husband can afford it." He cried poor and yet his wife drives a Mercedes SUV, he has a $50,000 truck and they live in a custom-built home he brags about all the time! BY HIS OWN ADMISSION HE IS IN DEBT UP TO HIS EYEBALLS AND IS BANKRUPT!! His attitude is not a humble one and he even approached my husband about financing a business venture to open a daycare!!!
