Description of Work: Repaired & repaved large driveway & parking area with asphalt. |Then, on top of that, added a layer of tar & chip (river stone). |It's difficult to find anyone to do residential tar & chip, so I was glad to find Gary. He said he was experienced with tar & chip when he made the estimate. But it turned out his father had done some road-surface tar & chip in the past. His father was not on site for this job. So, this was the first time for Gary and his crew to try tar & chip. They made some mistakes and tried to clean up afterward, but they knocked over a fence & didn't put it back completely right. When Gary came up to the house to let me know he was finishing up, I went out for the final walk-around. There were a couple sparse spots, and I asked him to add a few shovels full of rock in those places. But he had already sent the crew (with the rocks) home -- before the final walk around. He said he would be come to fill in the bare spaces, but never came back. I spread some rocks around to fill in the sparse areas. The large flat parking area looks terrific. I wanted T&C for that British manor look and it works great. Having the asphalt underneath provides stability and longevity. The sloped driveway, however, is losing rock too fast. They did this part last, and the crew was in a big hurry to leave. They did not use enough of the hot tar on this section, and/or did not roll over it enough. As I said, this was their first time, and they were learning as they went. Gary has now added tar & chip to his list of services and he should thank me for providing paid training. : ) I might give him a lower score -- except for one thing -- he is the ONLY paver in the area who was willing to do the job. All the tar & chippers were busy with larger fracking locations at that time. I highly recommend the look of tar & chip. The asphalt underneath is overkill if you have a normal driveway. Mine is a bit of a monster. If it snows an inch or less, just leave it alone. If there is 2 inches or more, I set my snow-blower on 1" above-surface and it works just fine. I would hire Gary again, but we'd have a little conversation first. I was really pleased with his professionalism until the last few hours when the crew just seemed in a big hurry to get gone. It was Gary's idea to repave with asphalt before the T&C layer. That added a lot to the cost, but for my situation it really was a good idea. I get lots of compliments on the look of it.

Description of Work: We obtained a half dozen estimates for the paving of a fairly steep 250-foot long driveway and a large overflow parking areas. From the very beginning, Dun Rite stood out. Gary responded immediately to our request for an estimate, coming out on a Friday evening during the height of the paving season. As he does on his web site, Gary acknowledged that many of his competitors might be less expensive, but explained that he refuses to sacrifice materials and quality for the sake of price. While his was certainly on the high end of the range of estimates we received, he was not inflexible and met his primary competitor's bid. Dun Rite completed the job nearly 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Gary was accessible and responsive before and during the 2-day project, his crew was courteous and professional and the results were outstanding. We received what was promised and plan on using the company again.
