I called Tim on a reference from the vendor of my fireplace insert. He came promptly within a few days. He performed his work and cleaned out the fireplace and swept it out. Very professional and kept the area clean. But I went to use it and the catalyst would not go back in place on my insert. I reached up and there are items that are lose and are blocking the closure of the catalyst and blocking the exhaust of the fireplace. Looking back on it, he was very fast to leave and was stumbling over his words before he left. Now I know why. I called him over a 2 day period and didn't get a return call. Not until I stated if I didn't hear from him by the next day that I would contact the B.B.B. did he pick up the phone. Told me he didn't cause the issue and he could return in a few weeks to take a look at it. Being a former computer repair technician for over 6 years, if I broke something, I came back as soon as I could to repair it. Weeks later was not in the conversation with my clients. I did not say things like "I didn't break it" and state things like "I didn't touch the catalyst, I didn't do anything with it". It was fine before he showed up, this unit is 1 year old and has 2/3rds of a face cord through it. So its not like its been beat on. I would suggest just don't. Find somebody else. He charges 300 dollars for 1 hour of work, so he charges a premium, but doesn't stand behind his work. Now I have to pay my fireplace vendor to fix it.

He was polite and up sold me on cleaning my hot water vent. Said he fix the leak by replacing the chimney cap and sealing some cracks. Charged me $600 for an hours work and materials. But next rain it was still leaking. I called and left several messages but never heard from him again. Now I'll have to have a real professional come and fix it.

Very thorough assessment of chimneys and flues. I was shown photos of damaged masonry on top of chimney and provided clear explanation of need for cap on flu servicing furnace. No pressure tactics, just presentation of evidence, options and costs. No mess at all with the chimney cleaning, tarp put down was clean as was equipment brought into living room. Very personable guy, responded quickly to follow up question a few days after service. Would use again and recommend unreservedly.

Called one day and Tim arrived the next promptly at 9am. He removed his shoes and inspected the fireplace from the inside, then went up on the roof to inspect the top. I knew the chimney cap was old and rusted and had been thinking of replacing it with a nice stainless steel cap, so when Tim gave me a fair price on a lifetime guaranteed cap of excellent quality, I took it. Tim removed a couple of inches of ash on top of the damper and spent a great deal of time cleaning the whole chimney. Very pleased with the end result and will call again in a couple of years.

Tim & Lisa make a great team. The service required three different visits (which is very normal - for example to let the chimney crown concrete dry in an appropriate manner, Tim created a tent to ensure proper curing & minimize creation of micro-cracks). They are very knowledgeable, kept us informed throughout the process. Tim was able to offer solutions at different price-points so we could decide on optimal value for our situation. He presented the facts, and allowed us to make financial decisions w/o pressure. Very courteous, responsive and customer-focused. Their work was completed in very clean manner (the fireplace cleaning can be messy, yet they were very protective of the two sets of rooms to ensure all soot & debris was properly contained). They are highly recommended.

Tim was punctual and professional. He cleaned my chimney, which more than likely had never been cleaned in 60+ years, and it ended up looking great. He inspected my cap and advised it was not too bad but in the future it should be looked at again. In addition to this work, Tim also completed/fixed a radon mitigation exhaust pipe, by installing brackets and pvc pipe. This is not his normal work but was glad to do it for me under my specific circumstances. The price listed was for all of the work combined. 2 hours total and to me, a pro job at a reasonable hourly rate is what I received. I'm happy and would recommend Tim to other people.

Sorry could not accommodate your request for my social security number, weeks after this small job was completed. I have been in this business for many years and have never had a customer request my social security number. I would NEVER give out this most personal info. to a stranger..customer or not. If you had let me know you required this for your business purposes (of flipping homes) before I did your job, I would have declined to work for you. By the way....not all dampers can be fixed. As I explained to you, it needed replaced. Suggest you mention your requirement of S.S.# before you employ your next small business professional.

I needed two flues cleaned in the same chimney. I was told that it would take three hours to perform. After 45 minutes Tim was done and charged me $ 400.00 Very poor customer relations. I have been in the plumbing and heating business for 35 years. I have never experienced anything like this. My doctor does not charge these type of outrageous prices. I may have to go to the magistrate with this. I believe everyone deserves to make money but this is criminal to take advantage of local homeowners. This contractor only had to drive 1/2 mile to get to the job site at my house. I am very irritated!

Response from Affordable Chimney Sweep
Mr. [Hyperlink Removed] In response to your post of 7 April 2016.I have been in business for almost 40 years and take great pride in the fact that I have always treated my customers fairly and with respect. I have worked long and hard to establish a great reputation at my trade, which is why I have been in business for so many years, with so many satisfied repeat customers. You neglect to mention a few of the pertinent facts which I would like you to consider. 1)This was an EMERGENCY call. You called me at 8:00 p.m. on wed. April 6, stating that your furnace kept shutting off due to a blocked oil furnace flue ,and that you needed my service immediately as you had no heat. To accommodate your emergency had to reschedule a very understanding repeat customer. I was at the job site by 3:00 p.m. Thur. April 7.Less than 24 hrs. later 2You also failed to mention in your complaint that you have an oil furnace flue and a wood burning furnace flue-both of which were blocked. You also stated they had not been cleaned for the over 20 years you lived there. If you had cleaned and safety inspected your flues yearly as suggested by insurance companies and chimney sweeps, you would realize that $200.00 per flue is an average price for an average fireplace flue cleaning, and safety inspection by a professional chimney sweep. In the hope that you will understand. I have detailed the special circumstances of your particular job. 1 ) EMERGENCY CALL 2) BLOCKED FLUES ---oil furnace and wood burning furnace 3) NOT CLEANED FOR OVER 20 YEARS Each and every one of the above would normally generate an additional fee and a higher cost to the customer—but I applied none of the higher cost to you. You paid a standard, average price for a fireplace flue cleaning and inspection. We also discussed your job and fee over the phone. I quoted you a fee of $200.00 per flue. Which is the price charged. At that time you said you desired and appreciated my immediate service. I did the job requested, at the price quoted, unblocked your 2 very dirty flues in a professional, efficient manner. I also never told you the job would take 3 hours. I would not be in business for so many years if I were that inefficient. I charge by the job-with a concise quote over the phone- not by the hour. Don’t know what if anything I could do to satisfy you. Please check on prices other professional Chimney Sweeps charge and you will see that you got the services required and requested for a very average cost, for a very above average Chimney cleaning Sincerely, Tim Williams Affordable Chimney Sweep

My house is approximately 20 years old. In the past 6 months or so, when there was a heavy rain, I would get water dripping down into my fireplace. The crown on my chimney is metal with three pipes coming up through it: one for my fireplace, one for my gas furnace/water heater and one for my radon. I didn't really know who to call for this. I called a roofer who said that I should get a cover placed over all three pipes. I called another chimney sweep who didn't want to climb that high onto my roof to even diagnose the problem. I saw an add in the Pennysaver for "Affordable Chimney Sweep". Tim Williams came out in a few days, and climbed up to see what the problem may be. He took a few pictures and showed me what the top of the chimney looked like. It was very rusted and a lot of the caulk around the three pipes was lifting away from the pipes. I had assumed that was the problem and Tim's pictures confirmed that. Tim suggested to sand the rust off and apply 2 coats of Rust-oleum and re-caulk wherever he could. He gave me an estimate to do the work and called a few days later. I gave him the OK to do the work. He arrived the next day and performed the work. He took some "after" pictures for me to see what he did. It took him about 3 hours to do the work. Time will tell if the leak has been fixed, but I am happy with the work he did.
