I've been a bit remiss in submitting this review, but now that I am looking forward to having Burke Construction perform their 5th project for me, I figured I should write my review on their 4th project. Burke built a small deck off of my dining room. The ground tends to be a bit pesky around this 175 year old farm house; you just never know what you will find when you start to dig. We knew that of the front 2 footings for this deck, one would be very close to an old underground cistern, however we never expected what we found when the back hoe started digging the 2nd footing. About 3 feet down, the back hoe hit a slab of concrete. It turned out to be a covering on an old abandoned 25 foot deep hand dug, rock lined well with about 5 feet of water at the bottom. After 4 truckloads of stone, Burke filled both the old cistern and the well and the footings were set. The crew did a great job of building the deck, cleaning up, and repairing the soil and driveway where all the rock had to be dumped. As usual, we were very pleased with Burke Construction. The problem with the footing did add more on to the project, but we thought the added cost for all the effort was very reasonable. Next job will hopefully start in a few weeks when Burke Construction will add a 12 x 14 addition on to one of our outbuildings.
Description of Work: Built a pressure treated deck off our dining room.

Jeremy and Burke Construction did this job in conjunction with Keith Overmeyer Construction. Work was delayed by the weather, but once we could get a few nice days in a row, the crew showed up and ripped off and carted away the old slate roof. With nothing underneath the slate, they completely sheathed the opening and put down ice and water barrier. The green metal took the longest to install, but the job was very well done. The crew was punctual, professional, and left the yard clean when they were finished. At the last minute I decided to add a front gutter and snow bar. They went up quickly except for one piece that had to be ordered. As of this writing, I am still waiting for them to install that last piece. Added 5/2/15: Wrote this review, and a crew showed up a few days later to install the last piece on the snow bar. Finished! And, looking great. Just wish I didn't have to wait until I wrote a review to get the project finished.
Description of Work: Removed old slate roof, sheathed open roof, installed ice and water barrier and installed a green metal roof on main part of house, front porch and two bump-outs.

Very much like most houses in this area of the Poconos, our crawlspace was entirely too humid and the wood underneath my home began to grow mold and rot. We required a crawlspace encapsulation to eliminate the mold and prevent any further damage to the crawlspace. Mr. Jeremy Burke showed up promptly, from his initial visit to provide the estimate, to the very day the work was completed. All of the employees were courteous and professional. Mr. Burke provided a very detailed explanation of the services that would be performed and provided a professionally put together folder that included samples of the materials that would be used along with detailed paperwork explaining every phase of the process. The final cost of the project was the exact amount that was originally quoted by Burke Construction. The finished product was amazing and I am extremely satisfied with the end result.

The project went really well and we love the new kitchen! The house is over 100 years old and the existing kitchen was long and narrow with an inefficient design. It was dark and musty with old metal cabinets and a sloping floor. We found Burke Construction on Angie's list and made arrangements to meet with Jeremy, the owner of the company late in 2013. When he came to the house we told him our thoughts and he made some suggestions as to how we could rearrange the kitchen layout to make it more functional. He brought an interior designer along for the second meeting who offered some additional ideas for brightening and modernizing the space, while keeping it in harmony with the rustic feel of the house. Once we decided on a basic plan, Jeremy got back to us in a few days with a reasonably priced proposal that included several optional items; some of which we kept and others we did not. He helped us keep our costs down by steering us to suppliers having sales (cabinets) or offering lower prices than competitors. For the granite counters, once we decided what we wanted, he arranged to get the same stone for $2,250 less than what was quoted us by a popular local business. With the age of the house, the workers ran into some challenges that required extra work, especially relating to leveling the floor and ceiling. They performed the necessary remediations at a nominal cost; and in some cases charged us nothing at all. The various sub-contractors all seemed to take pride in their work and went the extra mile to do a quality job. One of them told me they'd never seen a job as complex as this. While we met most of the sub-contractors, Jeremy was the primary person we dealt with. He was always accessible and returned our calls promptly. He is professional, reliable, well-educated and just a real nice guy who is easy to talk to and nice to have around. He definitely knows his business and showed a genuine curiosity about the construction of the house. On several occasions he took the time to investigate things outside the scope of the project (electric, roofing, attic access, air conditioning) in order to answer questions for us. The project took a couple weeks longer to complete than was originally estimated, but this was largely due to the fact that this is a vacation house and we live two hours away, so we weren't able to readily meet with him as questions arose that required us to be on-premise. In any case, Jeremy knew we needed the house to be ready for summer rentals and the kitchen was finished just in time. We're very happy to have found Burke Construction and they will definitely be our go-to guys for future home-improvement projects.

Burke Construction came highly recommended from F.J. Hess and Angie's List. Contacted Burke through e-mail on a Saturday night and was contacted on Monday morning by two representatives from Burke. Matt Bauman set up an appointment for the next day, arrived on time and spent quite a bit of time with us explaining the procedure, benefits, and answering all of our questions. We received a quote during his visit and called the next day to schedule the work. The work was scheduled over two days due to the fact that the sump pump install would create excessive dust and the insulation needed to be applied without dust being present. The sump installation crew arrived on time, introduced themselves, double checked with us to confirm placement of the pump and got right to work. This was a difficult install due to the amount of rock under the floor but the install was completed on time and looks very nice. At the same time as the pump install, one crew member was covering and taping off the basement to prepare for the spray insulation work the next day. The pump installation was completed and the basement was prepared for insulation the following day. The insulation crew arrived the nest day, on time and again introduced themselves. They also double checked with us on exactly what was to be sprayed. The crew ventilated the basement and we never smelled any odors from the spray. Mr. Bauman arrived part way through the work to check with us that everything was going according to plan and that we were pleased with the work. It was so refreshing to see that Burke Construction and Mr. Bauman were concerned enough to see that we were pleased with the work and if we had any questions on what was being done. The work was completed on time, professionally, there was nothing left out of place and nothing needing to be cleaned up. Mr. Bauman recommended installation of a larger, more efficient dehumidifier. We decided, after about 10 days to go ahead with the dehumidifier. Mr. Bauman was absolutely correct about the insulation creating a much tighter seal in the basement and the definite need for a larger, more efficient dehumidifier. We are so pleased with the new unit and can definitely see a difference in humidity levels even in the main part of the house. Mr. Bauman was there from start to finish, available by phone or through e-mail to answer all our questions and deal with all our concerns. Great company and Great crews.
Description of Work: Installed CleanSpace SmartSump System and sprayed 2" of thermal barrier closed cell foam and Fireshell insulation to basement walls and sill plate. Installed SaniDry Commercial Dehumidifier.

This company installed a metal roof on our Log home. This was a big job.....a huge home with 4 dormers. Jeremy was our contact person from the beginning (initial contact and estimate) through the finish. I am not sure how the arrangement works, but Burke Construction partnered with Overmeyer Roofing. With the exception of some long delays (not their fault, manufacturer delays and a horrible winter were the causes), the job went so smoothly that we had to pinch ourselves. (we have had our share of bad contractors in the past. As mentioned before, this was a big job. First of all, we wanted the old shingles removed. All the other contractors that we received estimates from wanted (almost insisted) on putting the roof over the existing shingles. Jeremy and Keith said that it was their preference to remove the old shingles, they would prefer not to put a new roof on the old roof. (While their bid came in substantially higher than the others, this was the main reason the we hired them over the other bidders.) We knew within the first 5 minutes of our interview with them that this was a company of integrity and would provide quality work for us. Regardless, we were still quite nervous...until the job finally got started. Their attention to detail was incredible. From laying tarps on the ground to catch the falling debris, hauling the waste out with their own trailer, and combing the property afterwards for stray metal pieces, we knew we were in good hands. The job required a good bit of fitting and piecing due to the nature of the dormers which were log sided. They removed the siding, flashed properly and replaced the siding after the job was finished. No shortcuts were taken by these guys....Everything was first rate. The job is beautiful and we now have the roof that we always wanted!

With electrical contractor for many years working in Alpine New Jersey so I get to see the workmanship of a lot more carpenters that most people would see. They were very friendly and courteous listened to all my concerns which were very few, and adjusted to it they took very good care and pride in your work and a half preformed some of the nicest carpentry I have seen. My book they are top-notch and I will be giving them more jobs in the future. Bottom line 4 working days to complete the deck, so to get an A+ for completion time, workmanship I would have to give him another A

This was a professional outfit from start to finish, something that's hard to find in the poconos. He was prompt in getting back with me for setting up an estimate. Jeremy always responded quickly at the beginning of the project. The workers were prompt and courteous and knowledgeable. The floors came out great, not a single problem. The hood was installed properly with no damage to the new hardware. Everything came out the way I wanted and Jeremy was always easy to deal with. I really appreciated that he brought 4 guys with him the day the range was finally installed, we needed every man as this thing weighed a ton. They did it with a smile. They even lugged my new generator to it's new spot in my back yard and also recommended a electrician to help me hook it up. I feel like I got a lot of bang for the buck and so I'm very happy. I will be doing some more renovations in the coming year and will definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Jeremy and his team tore up existing flooring in my kitchen and two bathrooms and then installed ceramic tiles. They installed a new range hood and exhaust system for my new gas range. They cut my existing granite countertop so the new stove would fit properly. that included beveling the edges nicely. They also installed a stainless steel backsplash. Jeremy put me in contact with a propane company they work with to run gas lines at a better price than any of the estimates I got on my own. They also lugged the 400lb range up from the basement with out any mishaps. They also ordered a new window pain and installed in one of my bathrooms.

Burke Construction did a great job completely renovating an old bathroom. The attached bedroom was also gutted, hardwood floors were installed and the walls/ceiling were insulated for sound and heat loss. The work was performed on schedule and at a fair price. In the bathroom, they did an excellent job tiling the shower and installing a custom made built-in cabinet with shelves. All aspects of the job were performed in a quality manner. Jeremy and John were responsive and professional.
