The contractor was scheduled to start on September 19, 2011, and complete the work by September 26. However they did not show on the morning of the 19th. I called and was informed that they would not be coming because of rain because they needed to store the drywall in a dry place. We offered to let them use our garage to store the drywall, but they declined and said they would be there the next day. The following morning (September 20) the TNJ owner and crew showed up and brought several sheets of drywall, tools, etc. We walked through the entire area and again went over the work to be accomplished. On September 22nd the crew boss presented us with a bill for $2300 and declared that they needed to make a draw. We refused payment and the crew boss contacted the TNJ owner and relayed that his crew wouldn't be coming back unless they received the payment. The crew boss again demanded payment and was again refused. TNJ was told to complete the terms and conditions of the contract which stated final payment upon completion. One worker showed up the following morning followed by a second worker later in the morning. At this juncture the quality of work or lack thereof started to become apparent. Drywall installed on the ceiling wasn't snug to the walls. In the bath area green wall and regular dry wall was mixed, and the workers never seem to have enough materials on site to complete the area that they were working in. On Saturday we were informed by one of the workers that he would be coming early Sunday. The worker was informed that we had plans for the day. It was followed by a call from the irate owner that we were impeding him from completing the work. We relented. The worker showed up and commented that a second worker might be coming in. He never showed. On Monday the 26th the crew boss in discussing the upcoming painting informed us that only one wall of the stairwell to the 2nd floor would be painted. On Tuesday we were informed that 30 extra sheets of drywall had been used because we had moved windows in the kitchen and they had to install new drywall in that area. It also would have meant that TNJ would have installed 1200 sq ft of drywall in that area 176 sq ft area. TNJ assertion didn't deserve comment. We were informed on September 27 that they would not be smoothing out the walls in a portion of the family room because that area had not been discussed. We had walked through that same area during the owners initial visit and the first day of work and he ran his hand over those walls explaining that the walls could be easily smoothed out. On the morning of 28 September the owner and crew asked if there were any areas that they needed to go over (e.g., plaster, sand). We walked around with blue tape and started to mark the areas where additional work need to be done. There were so many that the contractor informed us that they would take care of it when they painted. Around lunch time they informed us that they were finished with the drywall, skim coating, sanding, etc. We gave them a check for $1,100. to pay for the drywall work and terminated the remainder of the contract. The drywall work was not completed satisfactorily. The painting services were completed by other than TNJ
Description of Work: Initial visit from TMJ was pleasant. TNJ went over what they would do and we went over in detail with TNJ the work that we wanted done. Work consisted of replacing ceiling drywall, installing drywall on new walls, repairing holes as a result of electrical work, plumbing, and installation of new windows, as well as, smoothing out walls that previously had a rough coat of plaster, skim coating, sanding and painting walls and trim including walls/living room, starewell, and second floor landing. The TNJ owner walked through the entire area, did measurements, and explained what they would do during the job. He assured us that he and his staff did quality work and once the job was started that they would have a full crew onsite and complete the work in a timely fashion. The contract called for 1/3rd down and the remainder at the completion of the work. If completed the total cost of the contract was $10,025.00 ($4,800 for drywall, 5225.00 painting).

He performed the duties in the written contract in a fair manner. The problem arose when he verbally said he would come back and touch up the walls after the carpet was installed and prep and repaint the area directly above the molding that the contractor had to lower so it would be flush with the carpet. We tried for a week to contact him after the contractor was finished and he finally returned our calls and set up a time and date to finish , which he never showed up for and never called with a reason, he left me waiting all day. Now we are out of time we need the room for guests and don't have time to hire another painter.
