I contacted Lisa by phone from Seattle in early 2013 when I had been offered a job in State College. Before I accepted the offer, I wanted to know what it would cost my family to buy a home and live here. To be honest, I had never even heard of State College before, and was quite nervous about taking on a new job, in a new state. On that first phone call Lisa showed genuine concern and spent a really ridiculous amount of time with me—telling me about the area, making informed and helpful recommendations, and not once did I feel I was being “sold” her services. In fact, she explicitly said that even if I were to buy a “for sale by owner” home (one in which she would obviously receive no compensation) she was willing to help. I moved here in March 2013 in advance of my family—who followed on at the end of June. From a real estate agent’s perspective, I was probably the worst possible customer. I did not know the area; I did not know what I wanted; I did not know what was possible; and I had ever bought a house before in the United States (I am Canadian and have lived in Canada most of my life). Lisa showed me through I don’t know how many homes educating me on what was available at what price. After a while we found a place and made an offer. The bank I was dealing with had tremendous difficulty coping with the fact that I was from Canada—with different credit reporting processes and the like. It was very frustrating, difficult, and angst-ridden. Lisa demonstrated professionalism and patience throughout the process, and at one point (when we thought the deal was impossible) was happily willing to start over again with me from scratch. In the end, I ended up buying a lovely home and can put my hand on my heart and say that it would not have been possible in this competitive market without Lisa’s help. I almost feel guilty that I didn’t actually pay her a dime—agents are paid out of the seller’s money. But I am happy to recommend her.
