NITTANY MECHANICAL, INC - PLUMBING & HEATING

My home was built in the 1960's and has a baseboard radiator heating system with three zones (main living area, family room, and upstairs) each with their own thermostat. Our old oil-fired boiler had reached the end of its long and useful life, and with the price of fuel oil so high, it was clearly time to upgrade to natural gas. I called two regional home HVAC company to bid on the project. They sent their estimators out to the house. They were very professional, but when I asked very specific questions about how exactly they would run piping, or position the boiler in my basement, and other specific questions to my project, they could not provide good answers, and basically said "don't worry about that . . . the plumber will figure that out when he does the installation". I really wasn't satisfied by this, so I checked with a few neighbors on who they would recommend, and two of them recommended Nittany Mechanical. I called and talked directly with the plumber, Joe Wasiconis, who later came to my home to bid on the job. He was extremely thorough with his estimation, and proposed options that the other bidders did not even bring up. In particular, the piping for the boiler in my current home was a mess, suffering from years of patchwork upgrades. Joe proposed building a hot water distribution panel offsite, where everything would be clearly laid out. The other guys never brought this up. After showing me some pictures of other jobs, I really wanted to go with Joe. I was stunned when his price was lower than the other bids (But it makes sense, since I wasn't paying the salary of an estimator (middleman) between me and the plumber). The other guys wouldn't even bid on the the stove installation and fixing the domestic water supply pressure problem. The whole job took several months. First, PECO had to install the gas line from the street to the house which went just fine. While that was going on Joe fixed the domestic water supply low pressure problems. After that, Joe hooked up the gas line and stove, taking care to make sure the stove was leveled properly. Then, Joe and his team installed the boiler in about 3 days. Fantastic work.
