J Scott Paving

We had explored other avenues and after three or four different estimates we decided it should be asphalt and we mutually agreed on it. They were not the cheapest but we felt most comfortable with his professionalism and there were strong recommendations from Angie’s List. The main thing why we went with him was because of his professionalism in presentation and the fact that we knew that he had worked a lot in this area. He cleaned up the mess after the work.

Mr. Scott was one of the few paving contractors to return my call immediately (we had called 3 different companies). He came out when he said he would and provided an extremely fair estimate that was completely broken down by every item of work that was to be performed. Mr. Scott's crew was courteous and did a fantastic job. The crew was clean and water tested the driveway to make sure it drained correctly, which was very much appreciated as the driveway slopes down towards my house. Mr. Scott came by to inspect everything when it was done and made sure we were happy. Overall, we would definitely recommend J Scott Paving.

Best contractor experience ever. John Scott is a very professional. Very fair price, superior installation, and great work crew. He was very detailed on his contract bid and delivered exactly what he said he would. Very pleased with the outcome.

When we finally connected upon the date, they sealed our driveway which is approximately 200 yards. Everything looks great - they were very neat and clean.

Chose this company because of the reviews on Angie's List. All reviews were excellent, so I felt this was the company with whom I wanted to deal. What a disaster! John and his worker came out on 8-14 to do the work. Left with huge (2 to 3ft wide) swaths of black sand over 75% of the driveway. Left mounds of hot rubber over some the the cracks he had to fill and left other cracks unfilled. I called and John returned two days later and admitted that he would not have his driveway looking the way that he left ours. He would return and correct it. After several calls to John, he finally sent his worker over to repair his work on 9/20.And even though John said he would be over shortly, he never showed, and I had to tell his worker what needed to be done. Even after speaking with his worker several times while he was here, the driveway was never repaired to our satisfaction: there are still swaths of black sand and cracks that were never filled. I again called John on 9/23 but as of 9/30 he has yet to return my phone call! UPDATE TO ABOVE REVIEW! On October 25th 2013 John Scott, Sr. the owner, came to our home, reviewed the driveway situation and comped us the cost of the operation!

This went perfectly. A very neat application. No over splash on brick walls or cement areas. No over spray. It looks great. They also worked with me to get this done around my schedule (this was a big deal for me). They did a truly exceptional job. Will definitely continue to do business with them.

I'm just in the process of getting my driveway done, I should have it done next week. He had a good presentation and he told me it was a good deal and his price was really reasonable compared to some other guys I got quotes from. They were fine as far as the quoting process. I would use them again if I'm happy with the installation.

Scott did an excellent job seal coating my driveway. Myself and three other households in the neighborhood went in together to get a better rate. My driveway is 10' x 35' and is in excellent condition, Scott installed it six to seven years ago. I did some very minor touchup work on it over the past week. Scott applied the sealcoating very carefully and as specified on the quote. They did a great job and will definitely call them again. They might be a little higher priced but the difference is reflected in the quality of the work.

The only minor criticism I can say is when I called to schedule an appointment to get an estimate, I was told by the assistant who answered the phone that I'd get a call back either later that day or more likely the next day from George to schedule it. I never got a call back and called 2 days later. The assistant apologized and said she would let George know. He called me back very soon after I hung up and also apologized, explaining they were short-handed and busy that week and he just didn't have time to call (he again apologized when he came out for the estimate). So I still give them an A for responsiveness because they obviously cared about me having to call twice. George actually called me a couple days later just to double-check that he had called me back, too. He showed up on-time and took a look at my driveway. I was interested in the cost to have some minor patchwork done and get it sealed since I just didn't have time to do it myself this year, and also asked him about preventing the grass from growing into the driveway and causing it to chip (which is why the patchwork was needed). I had repaired it and sealed it myself and had killed off the grass near the edge a couple years ago, but it had grown back and caused new damage. George took a look and actually recommended I not get it sealed yet. He said it had already been sealed a lot (by the previous owner...I had only done it once in the 7 years I've lived in the house). That was why there was a lot of minor cracking ("mud cracking") occurring besides the grass damage and a few larger cracks. He explained that if the driveway is sealed too often it can peal and cause these small but numerous cracks to occur. Because of how often it had been sealed already and since it wasn't in terrible shape, he suggested I wait another year. He also gave me some tips for keeping the grass out of it. He still gave me an estimate for the job, though. He also thought I would need to have the whole thing repaved in another 5 years or so and gave me an estimate for that. Overall I was very pleased. George was professional, took the time to explain things in detail to me, and was honest enough to tell me to wait rather than try to get a job when it wasn't needed. He said he preferred to have a reputation of being honest even if it cost him a job, and I greatly respect that. When the time comes to get it resealed, if I again find that I don't have time to do it myself, I will definitely hire George. Same goes for getting it repaved if I'm still in the house when that's needed.

John Scott was very prompt and professional from the start. He and his crew did an excellent job under the most difficult conditions during the recent heatwave. His price was competitive, and he was very prompt in dealing with our specific concerns. I would recommend him without reservation.

Excellent! By far the best experience we have had working with any contractor. The experience was flawless from the first contact to the execution of the work. I would work with George and John over and over again. They are true professionals and work well with discerning homeowners. Their workmanship is excellent and the new driveway and paved carport has done wonders for the function and curb appeal of our home.

Five neighbors and I contracted with J Scott Paving to overlay our existing asphalt driveways with 2 inches of compacted asphalt. Our driveways were well over 16 years old, and the surface was cracking and some areas had large pot holes. We all had many questions for George before and after we signed on for the resurfacing. George was always available at the time of our calls or promptly returned them after we left a voice mail. George patiently answered all of my questions and gave me as much detail as I needed. Can you imagine how many calls he fielded from six different owners--many! He gets an A+ for communication. George's crew arrived with him on the scheduled day and proceeded to clear the surface of all the driveways before beginning the overlay. Then they laid a sealant on the existing asphalt so the new layer would adhere. George supervised the work almost the entire time. A side note: Everyone on George?s crew is polite and well mannered. On the day the service was performed, the neighbor at the end was adamant that the house next to her, whose driveway wasn't being resurfaced, not get water runoff. To accommodate her, George had his crew dig up the 3-1/2 inches of old asphalt on her property, as well as on the next two. He did this before doing the overlay . Unfortunately, after it rained that evening two of the three properties had a massive shared puddle between them. I called George the next morning ( Saturday) and he spoke with me about the problem and came over the beginning of the following week to see the issue for himself. He was very upset over this unexpected outcome and agreed with us that the problem needed to be remedied. We three neighbors involved concurred with the plan George presented to improve our runoff. Within three weeks George and his crew returned to fill in the low spots then put a one inch layer of compacted asphalt on top of the three driveways involved. He would have done the remedial work sooner, but he had to work around vacation plans two of us had. The puddle is history and we are all very satisfied with the work performed. I would definitely recommend J Scott Paving without hesitation. Even the best contractor can run into a problem while performing a job. However, the real test is how he goes about resolving it. Due to George's great communication skills and his willingness to work with us, we found an equitable solution and are very pleased with the final result. THANKS GEORGE. Although J Scott did not perform any work, I still applaud him for giving me his full attention and trying to help me out. I have been trying to have major work done on my house for months now. I have gone through just about every number in the yellow pages with little success and finally signed up for Angie's List. But even with the top rated businesses on Angie's List, only 1 out of 10 ever bother to show up and none of them have given me any estimates. They basically look at all the work that needs to be done, scratch their head, shrug their shoulders and hem and haw, then leave and I never hear back. So I was very impressed at how prompt, courteous, and professional J Scott was and how he went the extra mile to try to help me out even though he was not going to make a penny off me. I will keep him in mind for the future though and you can be guaranteed that he will be the first person I call next time I need anything done.

Excellent job. Removed enough old driveway to ensure drainage away from garage doors. Really nice job, with attention to detail and care for our property.

The driveway was in need of repair. It had cracks with grass growing through and it had sunk near the garage entrance to the point where we had a ramp in the form of a board on a block of wood. J Scott came in with a competitive quote. When I called for an estimate, they were prompt. They came out in just a few days and left the quote in my door. John Scott called me the same day to make sure I got the estimate and to answer any questions. I chose J.Scott because I felt confident in the way John fully described what was needed and the exact work he would do. We scheduled the work, the crew arrived on the scheduled day. The driveway looks great! I am very pleased with the job!

John Scott is a great guy to work with. He had a number of ideas for how to approach the project. But I was particular and wanted a certain type of look for the driveway, including my 100 year old curb stones. Mr. Scott said he could not promise saving the stones and then removed the old driveway without disturbing a single one. It was the work of a surgeon. He then left the driveway unpaved for a long time at my request so I could get other contractors in, even though it meant that it would take longer to complete the job (and get paid). A real professional.

It went smoothly except for a water problem that was uncovered in the excavation of the old driveway which meant that we had to wait until the area was dry enough to proceed.

Again, I cannot give him any comments but a wonderful company!!!

They did an excellent job. From the bid, which was very competitive, to the work I had absolutely no complaints. It was a tough job as our driveway was very long and steep, but they got it all done on time. I wanted to see how the driveway faired over a winter, and it looks great.

Driveway was breaking up in the area in front of the garage door where the sun doesn't shine and the driveway was otherwise showing some wear. Called Scott Paving, John came out in short order, reviewed the situation, and gave me two quotes: one for replacing the area next to the door and one for repaving the entire drive. I choose the latter as that quote was not much more than just doing the area next to the door. Without going into detail, can only say that Scott Paving richly deserves its rating on Angie's List. First Class from start to finish. John recommended hot oil seal coating rather than the latex sealer which I had been using. Scott Paving came out two weeks later and applied the first oil seal. Will have a second coat in the spring. Driveway looks great, very satisfied.

George (Scott) came out and did the estimate. Did the measurements and explained the appropriate paving approach given that we have a large vehicle (RV) that will sometimes be parked in the driveway. E-mailed me the estimate from my driveway. He doesn't do concrete block work, but did offer to do the excavation abd stone base which he included in the estimate for a very reasonable price. His estimate for the paving was a bit better than the lowest of three other quotes I received. After I accepted the estimate he called about a week later to schedule for the following week. The crew arrived right on time in the morning. George walked me through the process of marking the boundaries of the new driveway and excavation area. Once the markings were done, his crew got to work. They had the work done by about 1PM. George came back, looked things over and explained what we needed to do while the asphalt hardened. Final bill was a bit below original estimate because he found an extra piece of geotextile and didn't charge for it, and didn't have to pay one of the permit fees. Overall, it went as smoothly as it could.

It took several calls before our call was returned. The men came on time. It was a damp day and for several days afterward. when the surface didn't dry properly, we called and they resealed the driveway. This impressed us. Next time, we will wait for more favorable weather.
