He recommend the washer not be repaired due to age. He even cleaned it. So he offered options of new purchase. He ordered the part needed for the microwave. I appreciate his honesty.

He's excellent. He does washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and whatever. He's wonderful price-wise and responsiveness. It was very reasonable. I've used him for year. I found him because of word of mouth in the area. He's nice. He's not out to rack you money wise. He comes, do a good job and they leave. He doesn't gouge you. He's local here and I do like to use local people if they're good.

He had to come back to my house at least 6 times over the course of 4 months to get a power board that worked. He charged me no extra for any of these extra trips. He kept ordering new power boards from GE until he got one that worked. I would highly recommend this honest and knowledgeable man to every one.
Description of Work: Over the course of 4 months he fixed my GE refrigerator. He first change the defrost heating element, which was definitely worn out. He had to come back and replace the power board.

Over the course of a couple of weeks, our high-efficiency Kenmore front loader washing machine started giving various error codes, then started making strange noises that sounded like it was struggling, and finally stopped clearing out the water from the tub. We called several appliance repairmen and none could come out quickly. We left a message with Probst and he did not call back until after we had left a second message a week later. He said he had other jobs lined up and suggested that we check one thing before having him come out to diagnose and fix the problem. He said a common problem with front loaders is that the trap before the discharge pump often gets clogged. He told us how to open up the front panel and to unscrew the big cap covering the trap. We looked at web sites with photos to get a better idea of what to expect. When we opened up the trap, it was packed with two small rags, 90 cents in change, pen, earring, safety pin, bobby pin, paper clip, shells, lots of miscellaneous debris, and awful-smelling gunk. After clearing everything out and cleaning the trap as best as we could, the washer worked perfectly! No more error codes, no more noise, and no more soaking-wet laundry. Now we know. We now plan to clean out the trap periodically and suggest that everyone with a front loader do the same. Friends have told us that their washer has a little door for easy access to the trap. What a smart feature! That's something all front loaders should have. We also plan to run bleach through the washer once in a while to cut down on the bacterial gunk growing in the pipe under the tub. We'll definitely use Probst for appliance repairs in the future.
Description of Work: Provided FREE advice that was instrumental to fixing our front-loader Kenmore washer.

He was in and out within 30 minutes. He is very professional and it was a good experience. I looked him up online and he had good reviews. We didn't chat about the weather or anything like that. He showed up to do his job and he left and my dryer is working is fine. i was also happy that he came out as soon as he did so I wasn't without my dryer.

I have a Frigidaire side by side refrigerator that wasn't staying cold. Since everything in the freezer was thawing,I called several appliance repair companies, J And T Probst were the only company that could come the same day. He actually diagnosed my problem ( bad compressor) over the phone and said that it wasn't worth repairing. I didn't want to get a new fridge based on a phone diagnosis, so I had them come to the home. Sure enough the phone diagnosis was right on and the service call was only $45. Their prompt, knowledgeable, and courteous service makes me want to use them for all of my appliance repair needs
Description of Work: He serviced my Frigidaire refrigerator, testing several electronic components to support his diagnosis.

I was very happy with Jand T. I called on Saturday and told him both my washer and dryer were having problems. He informed me what the dryer tought the dryer would cost (it was Saturday, so he couldn't verify the exact cost) and also told me it was my call on the washer, but that it was 5 years old and would cost a lot for the motor and timer. I took his advise and bought a new washer, but he did come on Monday and fix my dryer. The price was close to what he thought and he came late morning, earlier than he thought. I would definately call him again, was happy with the service.

Gas oven would not light, and we found that J and T was recommended, and close by. We called, and he said he was in the area and would arrive in less than an hour. He did arrive in that time, and immediately went to work. He was quick, efficient, polite, and got the job done. From the time he called me back to the time he left and the oven was running was a little over an hour.

When Joe arrived, he checked the dryer vent outside to make sure it wasn't clogged. It wasn't so he came back in and removed the back of the dryer. With the high temperature kit he brought, he repaired the dryer. He asked if I wanted to vacuum out all the lint that had collected before he reattached the back and I said, and quot;Yes.and quot; After a few minutes of vacuuming, I was done. Joe reattached the back of the dryer, handed me the bill, I wrote him a check, and he was on his way. We will call him again for any needed future repairs and would absolutely recommend him to future customers.
Description of Work: Joe arrived a bit late but considering the road conditions, that was understandable. He was professional, friendly, and efficient. He was familiar with the Whirlpool brand dryer we have & came prepared to repair it.

He was really prompt and easy to work with. Follow up 1/10/2014 I've called his twice recently about a microwave and then a washing machine. In both cases he recommended they not be repaired and advised me which brands and feature I should look for in new appliances. I wish I could have paid him for the advise since he shared his experience and got nothing out of it. This is the kind of local service that we should all support any time we can.
Description of Work: I needed a heating element replaced in a GE drop in range. I call Mr. Probst and 2 days later he arrived with 2 elements only to find that the were not the correct ones. He ordered the correct one and installed 2 day later.

Our front-loading washer (Maytag MAH4000) didn't survive our move. When we opened the door to connect the hoses, we found that the boot (the part that seals the drum to the front of the washer and prevents water from leaking out) had separated and the cable that holds it on had fallen off. I placed this cable inside the washer, came to an agreement with the mover over the cost of repair, and searched Angie's list for a repair person. We called Jand T and made an appointment for the next day, which was later canceled because of the service person's personal schedule, and rescheduled for the following day. When he did arrive, he looked at the washer and couldn't figure out why we thought it was broken. The cable I referred to above he said was a "Moving cable" and supposed to be off, and he proceeded to connect the washer and run it WITHOUT THE BOOT SEALED TO THE DRUM. I'm serious... there was a 1" gap between the drum and the boot, through which water leaked like a sieve. He then tried to put the washer into high speed spin mode, but couldn't even though my wife told him it takes a few minutes for it to get into that mode. He assumed, because other Maytags have had this issue, that our motor control board was burned out. So I researched this on the internet myself a bit, bought a new boot on ebay for $33.10, installed it myself, and it runs perfectly. I don't know what he was thinking running the washer with the boot disconnected, and I don't know why he thought the cable was a "moving cable". To the best that I can see, there is no such thing as a moving cable for a washer. Moving bolts, yes, but not a moving cable, and our particular model doesn't require moving bolts. I don't think he had the first clue as to how to fix our problem, which was trivial and repaired by a novice inside of an hour.
Description of Work: Attempted to repair a clothes washer. Advised that it would require over $400 in parts and labor and was beyond repair. I later repaired it myself for a total of $33.10.

We had an appointment scheduled with someone else when Mr. Probst called back. He was so helpful on the phone by giving us questions to ask and providing tips, we ended up canceling with the original person and had Mr. Probst come to our home. The refrigerator was not acting up when he came, but he told us to call when it started making noises again. Based on what we had told him, he did advise we would probably need a new refrigerator because it sounded like the compressor. He did not even charge us or try to get a job by repairing the compressor since a compressor is so expensive and is not worth putting the money into a 15 year refrigerator.

I think they do good work and charge reasonable rates. I like the fact that he writes everything down and then gives you a list of the parts needed and has you order them, this way he doesn't overcharge for the parts. I think he is very fair and honest.
