Shane Moran Masonry specializes in all things masonry, brick, block, stone, concrete, footers, excavation, new construction, additions, restoration, residential and commercial. We are a quality driven company and customer satisfaction is our goal.
"The company promised to start my job last spring, in March. I didn't hear from them until May, saying they weren't going to be able to start until summer. Then, in the summer, I was told again that the job was going to be pushed back until the fall. Finally, in December, they are ready to start the project. I had assurance from them that the job would only take 2-3 days to complete. They promised the job would be done before Christmas. Work was started but not completed before Christmas, as promised. After Christmas, I reached out to them, via a text and was told they would be out on a specific date to finish. This promised date would arrive and I would receive a text with an excuse as to why they couldn't be there. Several times, they blamed it on the weather, even though it was 50 degrees outside, dry and sunny. It was obvious by now that my project was not a priority for them. I reached out to Angie's List for help with this. I was told that I had to post a review before they could do anything to help me. I posted a review. A day or two later, the owner of the company texted me and threatened me. He said that unless I remove the review, they would not do any more work for us. I reached out to Angie's List again. They pulled the review down for me. On January 14th, my birthday, the workers and the owner finally show up. The owner yells at me and said that "I bashed him on social media which caused problems for his subcontractors etc". He also said: "no one wants to do work for me. No one wants to set foot onto your property because they are afraid they won't get paid". When I did not cower and apologize, he pulled his team off of my site and left. First of all, I never bashed him or any of his subcontractors on social media. I also never threatened to withhold payment. I am wondering what he is saying to these subcontractors which would cause them to feel that they were not welcome to do work at my home. I paid $3,500 upfront, which was a little less than half of what was owed. I am not even asking for a refund because he did partially complete the job and I understand that there were costs involved in this. However, I am deeply saddened that his unprofessional behavior is now possibly causing problems for me with other service providers within the community. I feel throughout this entire sad ordeal I have been patient. I tried to work with this company. They did not complete the job in a timely manner, which caused me stress and problems with my neighbors and my HOA. Please do yourself a favor and do not hire this company. Their work is good. However, they are unprofessional and will try to bully and intimidate to get what they want. ***Update*** This is a rebuttal to the service provider's dramatic-filled response: 1) In a rant text message, and on January 14th, and again on here, you have mentioned having several setbacks this year: employees not showing up, weather, other jobs changing deadlines etc. I do not mean to sound harsh, but those are YOUR problems to deal with. I paid for a job and expected it to be completed in a timely manner. 2) The debris was not hauled away until January 14th. It stayed in my yard from the start of the job until you packed up and left, which was approximately one month later. 3) When the excavator operator was finished with his work on Dec. 13th; he was sitting in his truck, getting ready to leave. I nicely approached him and told him that the excavator could not be left in my yard, due to HOA guidelines. His response was: "I will have to talk to the contractor and see what he wants to do about this". Then, he sped off. I did not know who the excavator operator was. I WAS NEVER TOLD HOW LONG THIS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT WOULD BE IN MY YARD. My side yard is very close to my neighbor's. This excavator was practically in his yard too. This is why I posted on Facebook asking for the operator to remove it from my yard. IF he had done what I--THE PAYING CUSTOMER--had asked him to do on Dec. 13th; I would not have had to post on Facebook, asking for it to be removed! 4) NO ONE told me ahead of time how long the excavator would be on my property. This is why I asked you to have it moved. You seem to forget that as the property owner; I should have a say as to what goes on during this project. 5) I found leaks in my roof in January. I wanted a deadline because a roofing contractor would be repairing my roof soon. I did not want their work to interfere with yours and vice versa. 6) I reached out to Angie's List for help in getting this project back on schedule. THEY were the ones who required that I post a review. You then threatened me and told me to remove the post or you would not complete the job. 7) The other post on Facebook was a general post, asking for service providers to not leave customers' jobs unfinished for long periods of time. In my post I NEVER mentioned your company by name. The wife of the excavator operator (now I know who this person is) began "bashing" me relentlessly on this post. I ended up having to block her, and two more of her "troll friends". Why was she "sticking her nose" into your business, anyway? She cost you a job and a good review. I had intended to post a good review upon completion of the job. Did you actually read what I posted? Or are you going by what the "trolls" told you? 8) Once again, I question what BASHING you did to the other subcontractors you work with. I DO NOT have a reputation for complaining about contractors! Except for yours and one other company, all of the rest of my reviews have been positive. I never once said that I would not pay anyone. So this was YOUR fear of not getting paid, being projected onto your subcontractors. 9) When you showed up on January 14th, you accused me of all that I have been accused of. You never offered any options. You stood there and waited for me to say something. When I walked away, you got mad and told your guys to "pack it up, we're leaving". 10) You mentioned that there was "direct communication". There was none. If there had been, perhaps things would have gone a lot better. 11) This is all I will say about this matter. My advice, for what it is worth, is: stop blaming others for your shortcomings. Treat customers the way they should be treated and make each job a priority."

Concrete can crack from general wear, improper installation, or in response to uneven support from the soil underneath. Small, thin cracks on the surface of aging concrete are usually a result of normal wear and tear, while cracks on new concrete more likely indicate a problem with installation. Larger cracks or uneven steps can signify a much more severe issue. A concrete contractor should be able to diagnose the cause and repair concrete cracks for you.
A concrete driveway lasts between 25 and 30 years, provided you maintain it correctly. Other factors that impact the lifespan of a concrete driveway include your location’s climate and the amount of wear and tear it receives. Heavier vehicles, like RVs and trucks, notoriously create more wear and tear than lighter vehicles and, therefore, might reduce the concrete driveway’s overall lifespan.
With proper maintenance, exterior concrete steps can last 25 to 50 years or more. In most cases, your steps will require some minor repairs over that time frame, including sealing surface cracks and resurfacing to keep them in good condition. Interior concrete steps should last even longer, usually between 50 and 75 years, as they don’t have to stand up to the elements.
The cost to install a concrete driveway is $4 to $15 per square foot on average. Your price heavily depends on your desired concrete finish and driveway size.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay an average cost of $1,900. For a driveway at double that size (400 square feet), the average price is closer to $3,800. Plain concrete is significantly more cost-effective, averaging $7 per square foot, whereas stained concrete averages around $19 per square foot.
The cost of resurfacing concrete is $6 per square foot on average, though that cost can range from $3 to $9 per square foot.
For a driveway that is 200 square feet, you can expect to pay $600 to $1,800, and for a driveway that is 500 square feet, that cost averages $1,500 to $4,500. Resurfacing your driveway will give you the look and feel of a new surface without the hefty cost.
You may want to hire a concrete floor contractor to check out your home’s concrete surfaces or inspect your home’s foundation for minor damages that they can fix while on site. They may be able to fix cracks in your driveway or garage floor the same day they fix your concrete steps, as well. General concrete repair experts usually won’t be able to handle larger jobs, like leveling a sunken foundation, so you’ll need to hire a structural engineer for bigger projects.
