Mark was very helpful, efficient, professional and patient throughout the kitchen cabinet layout/design/ordering phase of our project. His in-depth knowledge of the cabinetry, options, and of kitchen design resulted in a kitchen that is both functional and stylish. At installation time, Mark, Justin and the installation crew were all very skilled and the work went smoothly. Everyone was pleasant to work with and respectful of our home as well. We especially appreciated the excellent communication from Mark and Justin who kept us informed, in-the-loop and updated as the project progressed. It was evident that they truly wanted us to love our new kitchen and they made it a point to say they will consider the job finished only when we were completely satisfied-- which we are! It's a great kitchen and we can highly recommend Mark, Justin and all at A Remarkable Kitchen Store.

Flawlessly! Mark and his team are amazing. Mark is responsive and his team of guys are very professional, considerate, and trustworthy (I gave them my garage code trustworthy). Mark is a bathroom for me 16 years ago (still has the same team of guys) and it still looks great. We recently had an issue with a shower (in a different bathroom), the whole thing was done in a week...fixed with the drywall looking good as new! Mark is the only contractor I would use for a bathroom or kitchen remodel.

Response from A Remarkable Kitchen Store
This is completely inaccurate, we spent about an hour and a half opening up some walls and ceilings as exploratory work (which we offered to close up but they wanted to work with others) for some work [member name removed] were considering doing and they told us they decided to work with someone else. WE DID ABSOLUTELY NO OTHER WORK, nor did they want us to. As a matter of fact they offered to pay us for the exploratory work but in the end we decided not to charge them as it was only an hour or two. I can't even conceive of how they think we did anything for them, unless they have us confused with someone else. We did do some design work but they decided to work with someone else and do something different. I would request that the homeowner please remove this review, we did not work with them on any remodeling of their house.

Terrible. Awful. Frustrating. Disgust. All of the above words do not even begin to accurately describe the services that were supposed to be performed. My paretns hired Mark back in July to have the kitchen in their new condo remodeled. The kitchen had already been gutted, drywalled, and painted before Mark and team started their portion if the job which was to lay the tile floor, install the cabinets and countertop. It took him several weeks to provide samples of the kitchen cabinets, as he was unresponsive to my parents questions/ requests for information, etc. Once they finaly started working in mid September, the person hired to install the travertine tile floor installed two different colored tiles on the floor. 10 of the tiles had to be taken out and replaced. In the process of replacing these tiles, he installed a tile that had blue marks from marker/ sharpie on it. The blue marking could not be removed because the tile is porice and hadn't been sealed yet. Instead of taking responsibility for the mistake of his tile installer, he accused the general contractor working in other areas of the condo of spilling something on the tile. After multiple conversations, he finally admitted it was he who wrote on the tile! Once again, the tile had to be removed and replaced. This time, in the process of replacing the tile, he dented the brand new refrigerator door. When he was questioned about this, he once again accused other people of doing the damage. Once the floor (minus the transition piece between the kitchen and dining room) was installed, it was time to install the cabinets. As with the tile, when the cabinets were installed, several of the cabinets and doors were of a different stain color from the rest. Also, the computer desk that arrived was the wrong size. And again, Mark was reluctant to take ownership of this mistake as well. He offered to fix the computer desk for a fee of $1,500.00!! Mark has since removed the cabinets and doors that were the wrong color and has re-stained and installed them. However, it has been over 4 weeks, and the computer desk is not fixed, and is not expected to be ready for at least another 2 weeks. So my parents have been without a functioning kitchen for over 2 months. ( as the countertop, sink, dishwasher, etc could not be hocked up until the cabinets and countertops are installed correctly.) Everytime Mark and his team and his team were in the condo to do work, they had no regard for their surroundings and made dust, scratch marks on the newly painted walls, and broke tile on the floor and filled with gout. Not to mention gouging the wood floor in the living room, and not getting rid of the garbage( ie boxes for the tile, cabinets, etc ) they created. This is by far the worst experience I and my parents have ever had with a contractor. Still to this date, the kitchen is not complete, and won't be until at least the week before Thanksgiving!!!! UPDATE: This review is in response to Mark's comments. He is correct that I am the daughter of the couple who's kitchen he is STILL remodeling. The project is now in its 10th week since the materials were delivered, and it is still not complete! Mark's multiple comments that I am the daughter are irrelevant in regards to having knowledge of the job, materials chosen, floor plan for the new kitchen, etc as I am in daily contact with my parents, and even though I did not attend all of the meetings, I was called upon for advice, and was aware of every decision made. I am writing this review to make potential customers of Remarkable Kitchen aware of the poor customer service and end product that this company delivers. Mark's comment that Remarkable Kitchens was on site full time and cleaned up after every step of the process is completely fictitious. He was there on the day that they moved to clean the mess that was made THAT day.. after myself and the contractor my parents hired to remodel the bathrooms and other rooms spent over 4 hours cleaning the day prior so the condo was move in ready. On moving day, Mark and his workers made the entire living and dining room a mess by not closing off the doorway between the dining room and kitchen while they were tearing out and replacing the previously mentioned tile that was written on. I am still hopeful that the end product will be acceptable as my parents, who are in the 70's have suffered enough stress, anxiety, sleepless nights, and disappointment as a result of this kitchen project. Please be mindful if you are looking into hiring this company, as the only reason I joined Angie's List is to be able to write this review.

Response from A Remarkable Kitchen Store
We understand that the customer is frustrated, but this is fairly far from the truth. The travertine has a high degree of variation, which we made the customer understand, this review is not generated by the customer but by the customers' daughter. We segregated the similar shaded tiles to one area to keep the "flow" of the tile. Customer was not happy, so we replaced the tile at no charge even though it was within the normal color variation of travertine to keep the customer happy. One of the replaced tile had a black magic marker on the back which came through the tile upon installation. We didn't realize (and the importer didn't realize it could not be used) that this tile was in there until we replaced it, again at no charge and found the black magic marker on the bottom of the tile. Customers' daughter made it sound like we knew about this, we absolutely did not. Does it make sense that knowing that this was on there we would have replaced it knowing a problem would occur? The rest of the delays to the kitchen area are caused by a redesign by the customer to an area of the kitchen. We reviewed the design extensively and repeatedly with the customer as it was his design and pointed out the shortcomings to the design but the customer insisted it would be fine. He even kept a book on all the drawings and reviews we did with them and the drawings and comments show this. Upon installation the customer decided to change the design and we are waiting for the parts. Again please be aware this review is not generated by the customer but by their daughter who does not have knowledge of any of our conversations or design reviews. The issues with the cabinetry are created by variations in how the wood accepted the stain. The variation in the stain color was within acceptable limits for the manufacturer but because we have expertise in shading finished cabinetry we took care of their concerns as a show of good faith. As far as the cleanliness, the worst of it was created by the tear out and replacement of the travertine and to try to reduce the problems we were out there full time cleaning up each time the tile installer walked across the floor. We understand that the customer is frustrated but we explained repeatedly both the issue of the variation of the travertine and the design issues prior to the customer signing a contract with us. We have corrected every concern (whether it was explained or not) and to try to save our relationship with the customer are doing the changes to the design at our cost with no overhead or profit, even though these were covered extensively with the customer. We strongly feel that this review is completely generated by frustration by the customers' daughter who is not aware of all of the communications and design reviews done with the customer and is not a fair and equitable picture of the events. We hope our comments provide some necessary truths for the readers to this unfortunate review. We have and will continue to maintain our continued emphasis on customer satisfaction.

The countertop part of the job went ok - though he simply contracts the work out to a local granite supplier. In all, that went well, and even with a small problem, it was the supplier that came & fixed it, not Mark. The backsplash was another story entirely. - Mark touts "John" as being a true artist & craftsman - and in the end, John did absolutely no work on this job that we observed. He provided no value-add at all that we could tell. - Mark provided a completely unrealistic time estimate for the installation - 2 days. Even *I* knew it would be more than that, and so did the workers. 2 days turned into 3 weeks. - Mark provided dates & times that didn't happen. My wife took a comp day from work to be there the day we started, a day we scheduled a week in advance with him. His people not only didn't show up, they were working a different job (Mark gave a weak excuse, over the phone, that 'John' was sick - though she could hear the wet saw running in the background.) The appearance is that Mark has NO control over his people. - We had to keep calling to ensure that the work was going to be done, and monitoring that things were done correctly. - The workers who did the work perpetually showed up late (10-11AM), stayed late (interrupting our dinner prep), and were not professional - only one showed up on one day, without any tools, and proceeded to do work that he had been expressly told NOT to do, by Mark. - They made a mistake on one wall. Ok, it happens- we accept that. We discovered the issue, sent photos, left explicit instructions & drawings on the effected wall - which the worker then *explicitly* ignored on the next trip, doing what HE thought would look good - and what was easiest for them to do. It wasn't that it didn't look ok - it just wasn't what my wife wanted. That cost them & us 2 trips - a bad fix, and then the correct fix. - Outlet box screw holes were not cut out correctly. That cost them another trip. The 'explanation' for much of this was they were involved in another job where the owner kept changing his mind. Why should that affect MY job?
Description of Work: There were 2 parts to this job: (1) new granite countertops (2) stone/tile backspash.

I had a wonderful experience with Mark and his team of workers. I was not pressured in any way to sign up for anything I didn't want. I would describe Mark as a softspoken professional. I had heard good things about A ReMARKable Kitchen Store, before I decided to do a remodel. This was the only remodeling store I went to. I did not shop around. His price came in lower than I expected. Before I signed the final contract, I was given three names & phone numbers of recent remodels he had done in my area. I was sold after seeing the first one & didn't bother to see more. I have a long, narrow galley kitchen, but Mark was able to give me much more cabinet space & make my kitchen seem much wider. The walls of the kitchen were not moved, but I did have half of the wall from the kitchen to dining room cut out in order to get more counter space. Mark has a great team working for him. All of the individuals who worked on my kitchen were very professional & genuinely good guys. From the main workers to the guys who laid the granite to the father & son team who laid the hardwood floors. My kitchen was featured in a story in the local newspaper shortly after the remodel. The hardest part of the remodel was living without a kitchen sink for almost a month.
Description of Work: Major kitchen remodel. Removal of existing kitchen cabinets, countertops, kitchen floor, etc. Build new pass through between the kitchen and dining room. Remove existing bulkheads. Install new kitchen cabinets, granite countertops, trim and hardware. Install new kitchen sink in the existing location and plumb from the floor up with new shutoff valves and discharge lines using the new faucet. Any outlets or switches affected by the new cabinet layout to be relocated to the nearest suitable location. The above price does not include any appliances purchased.
