We hired them for the home inspection. He noticed the sewage smell and suggested further avaluation by the plumber. In reality we had collapsed sewer, it cost us around $3,100 after the purchase. He suggested repairs to the boiler, in reality it turned out to be a rusted through steam boiler too big for the apartment (never mentioned anywhere in the report), going to cost us about $5,000. The two bay windows were leaking for years, as one could judge from the damage to the brickwork outside and moisture in the drawers underneath the windows. Never mentioned anything like that. The house was illegally made into the 3 apartments, so he charged us for the 3 apartments even though it was an illegal apartment. It was a huge waste of money that we should've used for repairs.

The structural engineer arrived at appointment time. He listened and gave careful attention to each problem area, answered our questions and explained his recommendations. He then took pictures and noted all problems with our home. The final report was emailed to us two weeks later.

Description of Work: Inspected three homes for me, including all living levels, attics, basements, crawl spaces, garages, outside of house, (including roof, gutters, & chimney), and shed. Each time it went smoothly, he explained his findings in detail, both verbally and in writing, and he provided a binder with his findings on all systems and areas of the houses, as well as a summary of the overall condition and recommended repairs.

I am having to amend my outstanding review of Multi-Spec based on issues that developed during my first year. The report indicated my wood stove was satisfactory but after using it the first month I realized it burned much too hot. Discovered it only had a single wall and was placed too close to the wall/furniture. It was dangerous to use so replaced it and moved the location. The report also indicated my original clay tile roof was satisfactory with one cracked tile at the front and some sealing needed at the rear rubber. After a couple attempts to repair serious leaking in my bay window a couple months ago, it was discovered I had cement tiles that were 20-25 years old. Additionally there were gaps that permitted water to seep through and the paper/plywood was rotted. Cost of repair was $6,500 for the small back section only. Decided to bite the bullet and replace the entire roof because of the uncertainty. The roof needed 44 new sheets of plywood and cost $38,500.

They did a good job. I was with them the whole time. They explained throughout the inspection what he was looking fir and what he was doing. Scheduling was easy and I got a written report when done. Overall, it was a good experience.

They were great. He was very friendly and professional. His follow up was great and the report was very detailed. Scheduling was very good. I needed the job done quickly and responded soon after. He showed up on time and did everything that was needed. The only thing was that the booklet with the information, some of it was hand written. Typing it out would make it clearer. He was very honest with what needed to be repaired and gave good recommendations.

It was pretty thorough. They explained everything and gave me a report. On punctuality, they were late. I will actually be using them again next week.

Tom Moore is an average home inspector. He found issues as expected and made good recommendations, but I wouldn't say he's above average. He missed a few items with the electrical and completely missed critical structural issues that I would expect an above average home inspector to discover. The attic was sealed and required tools to unseal to perform a complete inspection. When Tom identified this fact, he seemed reluctant to want to unseal the attic. (There was a major electrical problem in the attic, as we discovered later.) I had to specifically request that Tom inspect the attic, which an above average inspector would not require. Clearly he was on a deadline to finish and move on to his next project and this was an inconvenience. That said, Tom did return a second time to complete his inspection. We requested that Tom take photos of the chimney when he was on the roof and I was told that he would, but he never did. I would never hire an inspector going forward who does not take photos of all the issues that they identify in their report. This mode of simply writing down a list of issues is outdated. It is difficult after the inspection to trace the problems identified to their precise locations within the home. Tom is also not very interactive -- he doesn't always hear or respond to your questions, which is a problem for a home buyer trying to understand the scope of any issues and repairs to the home.
Description of Work: Tom Moore completed a pre-purchase home inspection, including a Radon test.

I am buying house in Pittsburgh, PA and I'm living out of state. Found Tom Moore on Angie's List and made an appointment. Both of my brothers met him at the home I was buying. One brother is white collar and one brother is blue collar. They were both very impressed with Tom. He was on time, professional, went through everything an inspector should. I made a list for my brothers to give to the inspector...things that I saw that I specifically wanted to know about. He went through that list too. He also inspected for termites and carpenter ants, etc. I decided not to buy the home because of it's age. His report was satisfactory for the age of the home, but the age of the home was what I decided was too old for me. Both my brothers would have most likely bought the home if it was them. However it was a personal decision. I will find another house in the next 2 months and I will call Tom to do the inspection and I will be there along with my brothers. It's a great house, just not for me and my niece. I received a detailed written inspection via e-mail the next morning. Before 8:00 am. I would recommend him to anyone...and as I said...will call him when we find the right house.

Tom really knows his stuff and I am very happy with the quality and depth of the report. I highly recommend Tom's services to buyers looking for a home, especially an older home... the one we are trying to buy was built in 1920.

He came out and did a very thorough home inspection for me. His report was very complete and he provided me with a big binder that had details on when different things in the house needed to be done. The inspector was very nice, on time and was great at showing and pointing out things for me.
