We sadly signed up for a free estimate. Jon came on 8/16 and we were told by Jon a few times all we had to do was call in within 3 days and get our deposit back. I asked twice and my husband asked once he said "all we have to do is call and we will get our $100 back" Clearly not true. I called on the 3rd day 8/19 and spoke with a lady, i thought her name was gabby, but apparently they lied giving me that name she doesnt work there. I have no idea what her name was sadly I did not record the call. Was told my papers weren't put in it was no issue, my check would be mailed on Monday the next business day. Well a week later I get a call from financing stating they need signatures. Confused I was like we canceled and you all were supposedly mailing my check. Well low and behold apparently you can't cancel over the phone. So Jon lied multiple times and "gabby" lied when I called in. They cashed out check and our free estimate cost us $100. I was told the VP would call us back on 8/26. He finally called us on 8/29. We missed the call but called right back. Have tried calling today 8/30. When I called to cancel the service it was within my time period! Of course now it's out. Lesson learned! Don't trust them! When I called on 8/19 at 3:24pm the call lasted under 2 minutes, which it was very quick. Told them I needed to cancel an epoxy job, transferred me to some girl, I told her jon said all I had to do was call. she said up and went on about the papers not being filed yet and since it was friday and late the check wouldn't be mailed till monday. Never again.

tldr; Go back through the reviews and read the tone and content of the owners comments to other reviewers. That should tell you everything you need to know. If you have a property in the city, don't bother calling them. They don't want your work. Everything said about their unprofessionalism is beyond true. You gotta ask yourself this: How deeply do you think someone has to be offended to spend THIS much time writing a review, But, that's how disturbed I am by their behavior. Good luck to them I say, but also, good riddance. Must be an absolutely awful place to work. Review: Disclaimer: I ran a home improvement company for about 10 years. I know this business very well. I became incapacitated in such a way that forced me to retrain, get a degree, and became an accountant. But I spent most of my life in this line of work. We talked to a lady on Sunday of the '21 York Home Show. It was dead Sunday so we talked a while. She was confident they could be helpful. We are looking at spending $50,000 - $60,000 on all the various project put together. Though we didn't give out that number, we did strongly emphasize that there was a lot of work available. We scheduled the basement estimate too close to the American Remodel estimate, finishing up one to get to the other. Jimmy was a really cool guy but, he strongly disliked the basement folks we had at the house and that was his primary focus during the 'estimate.' Understandable. Bad history I guess. Jimmy pitched an idea for the sunroom, which is the most pressing project because its quite dilapidated, he called it "condemned." But its structurally sound. I know because I had a structural engineer out the week before to assess it. I wanted to take Jimmy through to see the other projects. He wasn't interested. I pointed out the garage roof, which needs to be replaced. I know it needs to be, because I know roofs. He eyeballed it from 50ft away and said "Yea, I don't know. The roof looks alright." Its not alright. Its at the end of its life and needs to be replaced. I know because I know what year the roof was put on and how long those shingles are good for. but ok. I asked if he wanted to take a look at some other projects inside and he declined. "Sounds like this right here [the sunroom] is the biggest thing you have going on. I took a bunch of pictures and I'm going to take them back and we'll get you an estimate in a couple of days. Sounds good?" he said. Well, not ideal. I had a lot more work I wanted him to look at. We were promised an estimate on the spot. But, ok. He added that we really should NOT do business with these basement guys, they were rip offs and couldn't be trusted. Well, I hate to say it but that was the last we ever heard of Jimmy or American Remodel, but I did negotiate the salesman for the waterproofing company down by exactly 32.63% of his opening offer (basically I took all the fluff out of his price and you know I did because we know their markup practices) and they did the work in a timely manner and with good quality. Whatever happened to American Remodeling? Well I did give them a call 6 weeks later, kinda figuring they didn't want to touch the job. Even though the Home Show staff said yes. And even though Jimmy said, "Yea. No Problem. We'll get you an estimate." After a very brief hold, the lady came back on the line and said this: "Yea, because the place is falling down its not something we would be interested in working on." I'm sorry, "Because the place is falling down?" Its a brick house. They don't fall down. As stated, I hired a structural engineer. We've had it assessed. Its not falling down. I expressed with empathy that I understood and conveyed that I had a lot of other work. Its not just the sunroom. Again, she restated that since the place was about to fall over, its not something they'd want to get involved in. I expressed my disappointment and how this kinda flew in the face of everything I've been told by them up to this point, and she got testy. I thanked her for her time and she promptly hung up on me without as much as saying goodbye. Disgusting. You simply do not tell a guy who loves his home that his brick house falling over. Especially a guy who has been doing this work the majority of his life, especially a guy who had a structural engineer come to his house a week earlier and have it assessed. "Lack of tact" is like, the understatement of the century. And hung up on me. gnarly. I'm definitely unhappy. But, after reading some of the other negative reviews. I really understand what they were talking about.

Contract was signed November 2017 for bathroom remodel. Work was to start 1/5/18. Sales rep stated a designer would come to measure and draft plans within 2 weeks. No one came. Contractor called to start work third week in January. They were going to put in a 31" x 60 " shower pan but our shower area is 48" x 48". They had no plans for our bathroom. We had sales rep return to our house 2/2/18 to measure and draft plans. Contractor was to obtain permits. As of 3/27/18, no permits have been obtained and work has not started. We have contacted contractor several times via phone calls. Contractor states that permits are not needed. We checked with our township and the plumbing work would require a permit. Contractor also has no anticipated start date saying that they are short handed. On 3/27/18 we find out the sales rep we dealt with has left the company. We want to cancel and get our deposit back of $5700 but they refuse to return our deposit. We are registering a complaint with BBB. Hopefully we can get our deposit back.

I talked to a Salesman for American Remodeling at a Home Show and everything seemed really great so we setup a time for them to come out and give us an estimate. When the salesman showed up for an estimate things went well at first but when they gave us the price the man became extremely pushy, aggressive, and just outright mean. I told him that we were only looking for an estimate today but the man kept teasing me and would not relent in trying to make the sale. My wife and I were seriously considering using American Remodeling but due to the salesman rude and forceful nature we definitely will not be. It took almost an hour for the salesman to leave after I told him I would not be signing anything today and that we were done. I have hired and talked with multiple contractors over the years and American Remodeling is without a doubt the most unprofessional one I have ever come across. I would never recommend them to anyone because once their salesmen is in your home it may take a call to the local sheriff to get him out.

[Member Name Removed], I looked into this and the Sales Rep that came out to your house. I have no documentation that you called our office to inform us that you had concerns. This is the first time I ever received a complaint about him in the 10 years he has been with our company. I'm not sure how he was teasing you? This particular Rep is an older man and takes his job very seriously. I get compliments about him from home owners that did not buy from our company. I'm sorry you felt this way.

We are very happy with the results. The quality of the supplies and the workmanship were excellent. The workman were very polite and cleaned up everyday. The job was slated for the beginning of Sept. but they needed to postpone . My husband then needed surgery so we asked them to postpone until he was feeling better which they agreed to do. They started the job Oct.23 and finished in 2 weeks

We went with American Home Remodeling after receiving an in-home estimate from Jim. We hadn’t really been actively looking into re-doing our roof, but someone had come door-to-door to see if we’d be interested in an estimate and we decided to go for it. We were told during the estimate that we had some mold, that was found in the attic while doing the estimate. This was only part of why we decided to have the roof redone. We had bought our house about 2 years ago and we knew when we bought it that the roof would need replacing pretty quickly as it was very old and we did have some issues with leaks during a heavy snow. We were told that we’d most likely get a call toward the end of September to start the work, of course this would depend on the weather and may be October if we had a lot of rain. I got a call on Wednesday afternoon asking if we’d be ok to have the guys come to start the next day. A little last minute, but luckily it worked for our schedule. I was told the guys would be there between 8-8:30 and the dumpster would be there around 10; Robert asked if we’d be ok with them putting the dumpster in the driveway, which we agreed to. I asked how long the project was expected to take since we were told during the estimate usually 3 days. I was told it might bleed into Saturday a bit, but majority would be done Thursday and Friday. The next day the materials were delivered around 7:30, the dumpster showed up around 8:30, however no one showed up to start working until about 10:40. They had only removed the shingles from the front side of the house before leaving for the day and left the worksite a mess with broken shingles laying everywhere. The next day I decided to work from home in case they had any questions or needed to get into the house for any reason. The guys showed up around 9 and I spoke with the foreman, Josh, who apologized for the way the site was left, apparently he had not been there the day before. Josh came in to check out our bathroom fan that was supposed to be fixed during this project as well, and while he was in the house we checked with him to make sure they would be replacing the plywood on the roof, as that’s what we were told since there was mold. We showed him in the attic where we had been told the mold was and he assured us that there wasn’t actually any mold there and they would not be replacing the plywood unless it was rotted. Not sure why Jim told us during the estimate that we had mold if we didn’t, but now we weren’t getting new plywood, which we were told that we would. Another reason we had decided to go with them, since we thought so much was being included in the repair. I went out to check on the progress around 12:30 on Friday since I was expecting most of the work to be done by the end of the day and saw that they only had about 2 rows of shingles on the house. I didn’t pay close enough attention to the shingles themselves since I was mainly worried about how much was being done, and I suppose that I should have. The guys left around 3:30 and mentioned they’d be back the next day to get some more done. When I went out to see what progress had been made (only about ¾ of the front side, nothing done to the back yet), I realized that they were installing the wrong shingles. We had ordered the ‘slatestone grey’ and looking at the name on the single packages still left they were installing a ‘colonial slate’. I immediately called the office and talked to a receptionist who informed me she was the only one left for the day and unfortunately the guy who could help me, Robert, would not be in again til Monday. She forwarded me to his voicemail even though she mentioned he probably wouldn’t hear it until Monday. I left a message explaining the situation and requested that he give me a call back as soon as possible. I waited around all day Saturday so that I could make sure the guys knew not to install any more shingles, as they were the wrong ones, and no one ever came. No call, no notice, just didn’t show up. First thing Monday morning I received a call from Robert who asked what was going on and then asked what I thought about the “colonial slate” shingles on the house. I told him truthfully that I really wished that I liked them because the guys had already finished ¾ of the front side, but I really didn’t like the look of them and it wasn’t what we had ordered or expected. He promised to take care of everything and agreed that the color of the shingles is one of the most important parts of a roofing job and it really should have been written down on our agreement. I really appreciated Robert taking care of the situation like he did. When I got home from work that day they had already taken off all the old shingles and had started putting the right ones on. By Wednesday they had completed the front side of the roof, and it looked so much better with the correct shingles! Took much longer than expected to complete everything, but the end result is beautiful and we’re hoping all the work that was put in pays off through these winter months! My biggest concern with the company was just the lack of communication and seeming disorganization during the process. The contract wasn't super clear on what exactly had been discussed during our estimate and what all was going to be included since Jim made us believe we'd be getting all new plywood, the shingle color wasn't even written down on our agreement, which caused much more work and a longer time to complete, and I wasn't given a heads up when the guys decided not to show up on Saturday. We also did a full-finance with them and I really didn't like that none of the terms were available or outlined to me before signing the agreement. Jim lead us to believe that we'd have 0% interest financing and turns out we're getting 7.99%; quite a big difference. All in all, I understand that it was a pretty hot week and since the weather was supposed to be good they weren't pushing too hard to get everything completed asap, but it seemed like they were really just taking their time with everything and not really hustling to get things done in a timely manner. I'm just hoping that everything was done right and that we won't have any issues with leaks or anything like that moving forward!

It is now nearing the end of August. I had to put out an additional 1700 dollars for architects plans which I can't use with any one because they had to be specific to the company window manufacture. I was told because of rain they couldn't start in april. May it was injury. June I couldn't get a hold of anyone. July because they hadn't gotten osha 30 yet. I'm an understanding guy so they said beginning of August. Now I want my money and they say it's been in the mail for a week and a half. DO NOT TRUST

We did not realize we needed to be OSHA30 certified to perform work in this area. We had an employee get certified, unfortunately he left our company because he had a great offer and he had to accept it. So unfortunately we had to cancel the job and sent Mr. [Member Name Removed] his deposit back. When he did not receive it, we had to call the bank to put a stop payment on it, we reissued another check and had it sent overnight. The check was cashed.
