Terrible, but I'm glad we found out early that this company is unreliable before they came in to do any work. We won't be hiring them, ever.
Description of Work: We wanted to get a quote on replacing 3 windows. An employee(?) came door-to-door in the neighborhood with flyers, and we made an appointment for the next day to get the estimate. No show, no phone call. Basic rule of hiring remodelers: If they have time to go door-to-door in the summer, they aren't good enough or reliable enough to hire.

We thank you for the review, but would like if you actually told what happened. We're not perfect in anyways as a company lots of things need to go right to give you a free estimate. Our sales rep had car trouble so he was running late, when we spoke to you to rescheduling the appointment for the following day you stated you would be on vacation for a week so we rescheduled the appointment 9/14/16 and showed up at your home for the estimate for 3 windows and it turned out you only wanted one window. As far as the basic rule for hiring a remodeling contractor is you get what you pay for. The largest remodeling contractors in this business go door to door everyday that is how we get business its much cheaper than TV and print advertising.

1. They promised company employees but used subcontractor. They said the subs had work permits to be in USA. This one really ticked me off because one of my main criteria in hiring was that they use company employees. 2. They promised all Owens Corning materials but substituted other materials. The underlayment was comparable to OC Deck Defense so I let it pass, but then they started using an even cheaper sub-par material when they ran out of the other underlayment. 3. The subcontractors used my electricity without permission and also ripped the outlet out of the wall on my front porch. 4. Still finding nails around the property even though they said they would use canvas to catch all debris and magnetic roller. Jason discounted the price for the use of non-OC materials and other quality concerns I had but I still paid top dollar for the new roof.

We appreciate the work you allowed us to do on your home. Our contract states we can use subs on projects, which we due time to time to keep up with our work load. We ordered OC products for your project but our supplier didn't have it in stock and substituted without our knowledge. The product that they supplied was same quality as OC but cost was a few dollars more. We gave you a $1500.00 credit off the job to make up the minor issues, which is mor than fair. As far as the electric, it states in our contract that you give us permission to use your electric that is why they didn't ask. The outlet they used was not screwed into the wall properly so when they pulled their cord out the outlet came with it. We screwed the outlet into the wall properly.

The job did not begin as early as projected, and I had to call several times to get updates on the starting date. After a delayed beginning, the workers did a wonderful job. They worked through long, hot days, with very nice results. They even came back on a Sunday morning to finish up and clean up. The house has a fresh, new look, and attention was paid to details.

I had the carpet already tore up from the floor, so that was a job they didn't have to do. It went good. It took an extra day to finish than I was counting on so I lost some more hours of work. Rick did a very good job!
Description of Work: Remodeled my bathroom(Tore out the old flooring. tub. and shower unit the walls around the tub)Took out the sink and commode and laid new flooring and linoleum. Put in a new tub and shower unit . We noticed after they left we had water in the garage. I called them back and a pipe that had been sodered 30 +yrs ago was leaking and they fixed the leak immediately. They replaced some of the pipes where the leak was , insulation and dry wall on the ceiling of the garage.

we signed the contract 01/29/2015 . We were told their crews were ready as soon as the weather broke. The contract stated the work on the garage would start within 3 to 14 weeks. The garage was to be started and hopefully completed prior to the arrival of the basement walls and delivery of the house. They finally came and dug the footer for the garage on 04/28/2015, 12weeks & 5days later only after several calls giving them the date of the house delivery of 4/27/2015. the contract stated that the entire project would be completed within 3 to 14 weeks, We wanted the garage finished prior to the house delivery to store things from the home we were selling. We were assured by the sales person that the garage would be completed before the house was to be delivered. We purchased the house with out a roof(shingles)at the suggestion of the sales person , because of tin roof that AR would be installing . On 4/24/2015 we called AR to let them know the house was coming on 5/13/2015. They never ordered the tin until after the house was delivered, they came the day after delivery and put membrane on the house assuring us that it would protect it form leaks { IT LEAKED throughout the entire new house, pouring rain from all the ceiling light fixtures, soaking ceiling sheet rock and causing a mold problem in the entire house } , They came back with blue tarps and nailed them down. Weeks went by until the tin came and they started to install it. 8/4/2015 was 14 weeks after they started the entire project, it then took them another 105 days to complete. They finished the garage on 11/17/2015. Within a week we had more rain and it LEAKED! I got on the website for the metal company and watched the how to install video . My roof, according to the manufacturers instructional video is not installed correctly. I called Metal Sales Manufacturing Corporation for help,They said it was not their problem and call AR.By December 31,2015 we made several attempts to contact the subcontractor and AR, they would not answer or return calls. At approx. noon on 12/31/2015 the secretary of AR answered and she said she would talk to Jason and call back. I got three contractors in to give me their opinion. All three say it needs to be replaced there is no way to repair. On 1/7/2016 I finally received a return call from AR, Talked to Robert from AR and said that the roof is not installed correctly, He yelled "They have been doing roof a long time, it is done right", I said send your insurance man out and talk to me . I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM YET , IT IS NOW 2/3/2016 with no return calls to try to resolve the issues. On 1/14/2016 My lawyer sent a registered letter and still have not heard any thing as of this date.

Response from American Remodeling Enterprises Inc
We were way behind schedule on Mr [Member Name Removed]'s project due to the amount of rain days we had last year. We did have an issue with the roof leaking that was caused by an issue with the roofing underlayment and the modular home company that set the house didn't close the gables in with sheeting either in some areas of the house. Mr [Member Name Removed] never picked the color of the roof until after the house was set and the sunroom was just about built and the color of the roof he picked was out of stock and took an additional 2 weeks to get, he had months to pick the color. We're not blaming him for the roof leak, we take responsibility for that but the time it took to do the project was partly Mr. [Removed Member Name] fault. We repaired all the damage caused by the leak including removing and replacing the drywall and insulation. We also had other delays on the job caused by Mr [Member Name Removed] directly. He was suppose to have the shower so we knew where to put the plumbing in the floor of the garage. He took 3 weeks to get us the shower that he wanted, this was 2 months into the project the shower should have already been there so we knew where to put the plumbing before the concrete was poured which held up the garage for 3 weeks. Then the night before the trusses were scheduled to be set on the garage Mr [Member Name Removed] called at 7PM and said we cant set the trusses tomorrow their putting in the septic, the truss company leaves the plant in Virginia at 4AM so there was no way to stop the trusses from coming. The truss company dropped the in the field and said they would come back to set them with the crane when they have an opening, they couldn't get back out for 4 weeks, Mr [Member Name Removed] could have told the septic company to wait a day to do the septic since they weren't scheduled to do it that day they just showed up and we could have set the trusses instead of waiting four weeks. When we were about to complete the project Mr. [Member Name Removed] decided he wanted us to build a roof connecting the house and garage and a concrete pad between the house and garage. Mr. [Member Name Removed] must have been happy with our work or he wouldn't have us do an additional $17000 in work. As far as the roof on the garage leaking Mr. [Member Name Removed] called our framing sub contractor instead of calling the office. He waited a month to call the office, the reason he didn't want to call the office is because he shorted the final payment $14700 and knew what he did was wrong but after a month of not hearing back from the sub he finally called the office. Mr. [Member Name Removed] said he talked to 3 other contractors and they said the roof wasn't installed properly. None of the 3 contractors install Metal Sales metal and are not familiar with their installation procedures. When Mr. [Member Name Removed] called Metal Sales he threatened to sue them that is why they wouldn't talk to him, he also threatened to sue us. I sent a letter to his attorney explaining our side of the story and Mr. [Member Name Removed] called me to meet him at his house which I did, I will be going out to meet Mr. [Member Name Removed] again with a factory from Metal Sales to go over the different ways to install their roofing system.

This was a $59.99 big deal purchase. They sold us a contract to replace our roof, but I canceled the contract within the three day period when I discovered they were lying to me. They did not actually do the work so I can't say what the quality of work would have been. Their sales tactics were unacceptable and the job was horribly overpriced compared to the other bids I got and the actual company that did the work. I certainly would not recommend them but I can't say they did bad work. They probably do okay work. When I set up the appointment I got a sales pitch from their marketing director. He said their estimator would be out and would give me an estimate that was good for a year. I thought that was a little unusual, but nevertheless he did say that. When the salesman came and gave us a very hard sell presenting their price and a lot of discounts that we would only get if we signed a contract that day. I told him the estimate was good for a year and he asked who told me that. I told him it was their sales guy and he said he only told me that to get him in the door. That is just a scam they are running, really. I told the salesman I got a better price and was going to use another company he asked why I did not call him because they would have lowered the price.

The entire experience was fantastic and exceeded all expectations from start to finish. We are nearly two hours' drive from the company's headquarters, and they made a special trip just to give us a quote. Jason, the salesperson, was extremely professional, courteous, and not pushy in the least. Because I myself work in sales, I am familiar with many selling techniques (and I can smell a rat in a heartbeat). Needless to say, i am always on guard when i am the customer. Jason took the time to understand what we wanted and what was important to us. He asked great questions and had thoughtful suggestions. He very carefully explained the product (the windows), the process, and all of the other little things in great detail. He made sure we understood every aspect of the job. We were particularly impressed with the windows themselves, which far exceeded any others we had examined as we were shopping around. He helped us determine the most cost-effective solution, worked within our budget, and making recommendations on what would be worth paying for, and what could be cut out to reduce costs. He never once pushed us to include something we didn't want, and in the end, the price was very reasonable. Communication with Jason and with the company offices was always friendly, courteous, and of the utmost professionalism. Installation went very smoothly. If there was any hiccup, it was that the installation crew arrived about 45 minutes later than expected. Given that we are 2 hours away and they were arriving early in the morning to location unfamiliar to them, this is certainly understandable. Bob Martier and Davey Colbert were the installers for the two-day job. Both took pride in their work, worked extremely hard, and were clearly experts in their craft. They were very careful around the house, making sure that the woodwork around the windows was not damaged by the installation. All of the windows were solidly installed, and all capping were thoroughly and neatly sealed with caulk. Though Davey was sick the second day, they were still able to get everything (and then some) done within the allotted time. Bob, in particular, went above and beyond all expectations: During the installation process, he identified that we had a leak in our porch roof, which he repaired at no extra cost,. He also pointed out a few areas where we were losing heat to the outdoors and explained how we could solve the problem, even leaving some materials for us to complete the task. When everything was finished (on time), he left the job site extremely clean. Overall, the experience was excellent. They are not the dirt-cheapest out there, but cheap is cheap for a reason. The windows are very high-quality, and we are well-pleased with both the windows and the installation. I would not hesitate to hire them a second time. Paul & Sara T. Red Lion, PA

Shortly after installation the drain was filled with black "mold." I cleaned it out with bleach. Then, black "mold" grew inside the caulk line at base of wall. Provider came out and removed caulk and then caulked again. After a period of months the growth reappeared. Provider repeated the replacement of the caulk. Growth reappeared. After doing this a few times the provider declared it was defective caulk and would not come out again. Although the provider declared it to be defective caulk there are two reasons to doubt his conclusion. First, there is no growth in the other ares caulked (base of side walls and along the vertical joints of the wall). Second, Luxury Bath (supplier of the caulk) states that they have not had other complaints of growth in the caulk. Researching the issue I found that the provider did not get necessary permits, although specified he would in contract. ?Also found he never registered to do work in my Township. Exploring how to fix this I had 3 contractors come out to evaluate. They pointed out that the drain pipe installed was at an angle, resulting in the provider caulking the drain inside the shower. Installed correctly there shouldn't be caulk along the inside the shower drain. The provider also installed the shower valve incorrectly. Manufacturer instructions call for the valve to be mounted to a board. Provider installed the valve hanging from the PEX tubing supply lines. I questioned the ?installer when the work was being done, and again later. The provider said he installed the valve correctly.?I have a lifetime warranty on workmanship. I want my money returned so that I can have the shower stall fixed correctly. I do not want the provider to do the repairs.

The issue with the caulking is a manufacturing issue. We gave you the manufacturers contact information and know they said it was their issue that everything was installed correctly by us and the issue is with the caulking material itself, which they are responsible for on their end. We have all the emails from you to the manufacturer that shows their responsible We came and removed and re caulked it once at no charge to you as a courtesy.

From the very beginning to the very end every member of American Remodeling has been nothing but courteous and helpful. Sharon came out and was amazing with giving an estimate and working with me on the price. She was not pushy or overbearing like other companies I have talked to. The 5 year no interest benefit was a huge incentive as well. The flexibility of the gentlemen who had to come install the windows and work around my hectic schedule was extremely helpful. The project took all day, but the men were nice and left the outside of my house looking pristine. I plan on using this company again in the future for other projects and would recommend them to anyone looking for a great product and a great company.

The company sent out a sales representative who seemed knowledgeable but I believe exaggerated a bit on the pros of hiring his company over a worker bee type. His price was 10,000, but said if I contracted by the next morning I could get it for $8,000. I did not like the tactics, I feel that either it is $10,000 or it is $8,000, should not matter when they are hired- it was high pressure sales and I do not like that. I might give them another chance when I am ready for windows since now they must know they cannot take advantage of me (a woman) if they want the job.

It took the workers approximately six hours for installation and the house was left neat and clean.in the past we got price quotes from other companies and their prices were comparable. Front door was installed 03-23-2015. Workers were very friendly and efficient. They got the job done and cleaned up afterward. I really love the door, it is exactly what I picked out from the catalog. The storm door is beautiful also. I noticed the difference with the warmth in the entry way immediately. Bow window was scheduled to be installed the following Monday. However, due to a snow storm, we had to postpone it. 04-06-2015 was the next scheduled date of window installation. Unfortunately, the window was damaged upon inspection at my residence. The workmen had to take it back. (Thank goodness they didn't remove my old window first!) The window had to be reordered so it took several weeks to come in again. Robert kept in touch with me throughout the entire process. The front bow window was finally installed 05-15-2015. The guys were just great. They worked hard and were very neat about the whole project. The window was very high up and was a challenge I'm sure. The window is beautiful. I love the fact that I can open it now as before I couldn't open any panes on my old window. The air is great, what a difference! I am so glad we finally made these improvements. I was very pleased with the work done and the quality of the items we chose. The only thing I was a bit unsatisfied about was, that I didn't receive any paperwork with my new window or door, concerning part numbers or how to remove window panes and care for them by cleaning or replacing them if necessary. When ever I bought new items or appliances in the past I always received information on their care and upkeep and part numbers. When I questioned Robert about my concerns he told me that these were unavailable. He told me I would just have to contact American Builders if necessary and they would have my information on file.
Description of Work: Installed Fiberglass entry door, storm door, and 5 panel double pane bow window.

We were impressed with the workmanship. The job went well and all windows were checked thoroughly following the work. We were encouraged to work the windows to see that all worked smoothly including the tilting for cleaning and locking mechanisms for use while the windows were opened. We have one window that needs a new locking mechanism, but have yet to hear when that will be replaced. Despite this small glitch, the windows appear to be high quality. Clean up was thorough. The only thing we didn't like was the high pressure sale. We had found American Remodeling at a home show, then reviewed on Angie's List, and the salesman came to our home to show us the window in more detail and explain all the features and warranty. One thing that I wish he mentioned was the fact that the windows would be smaller than the existing ones since they were placed into the preexisting framework. We liked the product, but were pressured to make a decision there and then in order to get a price that was only available that day. We found that to be uncomfortable and unnecessary. We also have not received a copy of the warranty which we feel would be important to have with our records. We have recently moved into our current home and haven't had to replace windows in many years. We feel, however, the price is high. That doesn't detract from the quality of the windows or the workmanship. We hope to get the lock replacement and a copy warranty papers soon.

The good. The crew that showed up to do the work was great. Due to the weather they started a day later than scheduled but communicated that early and easily enough. The crew worked in sections on the roof starting with the easiest first. In one day they had two sections of the roof complete and started on the third. There are six sections to the roof with the way the house is built. On day two they knocked out the third and fourth but because of the weather they were unable to start the remaining two sections. On day three they did the remaining two sections and started on the gutters. Gutters were finished up on day four. The house looks great. We have a tree in the back that is shedding petals from its flowers and the leaf guards are already at work keeping them out of the gutter. Now the bad. When we originally talked with the sales rep we indicated that we also wanted our shed roof replaced at the same time to match the house roof with the shed. During the consolation the sales rep mentioned the shed numerous times and we were under the impression that the shed was included in the price. Well... we should have read the contract closer as it was left out. When I contacted the sales rep after talking with the crew lead at the house all of a sudden she had no memory of the shed. Both my fiancé and I specifically remember discussing the shed. During the consolation the sales rep mentioned it wouldn't take long to do that. Even the crew lead mentioned it would be quick. But because it wasn't in the contract it wasn't going to get done as there weren't enough shingles to do the work. After I found out the shed wasn't going to get done I contacted the sales rep and she said she would talk to the owner and call us back by that Friday. The work was finished on Friday, they had their final payment, the shed wasn't on the contract and I never heard back from the sales rep. The crew that did the work was great. They took the time to explain everything they were doing and what they were seeing as the old roof came off. I probably wouldn't use this contractor again after the lack of communications and feeling somewhat cheated. We might have been able to work something out but if they aren't returning calls there isn't much we can do. The shed wasn't in the contract and they lived up to what was on the paperwork.
