Karl Poruben Jr. General Contractor-Handyman Service

I was looking for a handyman. After dealing with a few incompetent guys, I came across Karl Poruben Jr. on Angie’s List. He had great reviews. I called him and discussed how I was looking to install gutter guards at my residence. He was familiar with the product. Next day, he visited the property to see what kind of ladders, tools etc. is needed for the job. We agreed upon a price. As promised, he showed my doorstep bright and early on Monday. It took him a few hours to complete the job. Job was completed with utmost satisfaction. He’s already coming back to work on different projects. Also, I am in the process of sharing his info with others so they can hire him as well. Don’t waste your time by calling others and give this guy a chance, you will not be disappointed.

We were looking for a handyman to help us with some small outside projects. We called Karl on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, and he answered the phone. He was pleasant to talk to, however, he said that he was out at lunch at the time. He said he could come to our house on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2020 @ 10:00 A.M. to give us a free estimate. He asked us to text him our address for the estimate appointment. After we hung up, we sent the text message confirming the specific day and time, our address, and directions on how to get to our home. He was very polite in the messages, and confirmed that he would meet us on Sunday. However, he never showed up for our appointment. We called him once or twice after 10:00 A.M., and left a message. Finally, @ 10:52 A.M., we sent a text message saying that we had other appointments to attend to, and were not able to meet later that day. We thought maybe he had had an emergency and wasn’t able to contact us, that day. So, we waited a few days. He never contacted us. We ultimately had to find another handyman to do the work we needed, since we needed it done before winter. Due to Karl’s lack of communication, we will not contact him again for future work.

Karl was great to work with! He was very prompt in getting a hold of me and was able to fit me into his schedule quickly. Karl worked quickly and even had the right parts to spare when the ones I owned weren't the proper size. I wouldn't hesitate to hire Karl again for any work I need around the house.

We spoke to Karl twice in advance to set up a time for staining our wooden fence. He agreed on a quote, which was fair and competitive with another very reputable painter. He worked with us to set up the best weather and time for this, and fit us in to his schedule as soon as possible. He arrived early, completely prepared, walked through the work with us, and started promptly. He sprayed our fence methodically and his associate carefully did trim work as well as brushed out the paint. We would, without hesitation, recommend Karl for any paint job, and guess that work in his other areas is probably equally impressive.

We just moved into a new condo and the previous owners neglected the exterior of the place. We looked up some reviews and called numerous paint companies and handymen for an estimate. Karl emerged from everyone for being the most fairly priced as well as being to get the work completed within a reasonable time. Some companies we spoke with quoted us the work to hopefully be done in 6 months. We hired Karl and he said he could start the work 1 week later. He showed up on time and worked just as he said he would to get the job done. Our front patio looks so much better and we really think the ‘curb appeal’ has increased ten fold. We recommend Karl to anyone as he proved to be extremely trustworthy and great at what he does. We will certainly be using him in the future! Thanks, Karl!

Karl is a professional who kept in communication throughout the process of getting our porch and deck painted. He was accommodating when we needed to move out our start date because we had a delay with some tree work that was being done on our property. We would definitely recommend him.

My husband and I were on a tight timeline due to moving out of state. Karl went out of his way to squeeze us into his schedule. We were especially happy with his punctuality, flexibility, and the quality of his work. Would 100% hire again. Thanks Karl.

Karl texted me right away and started the job after a few days. He arrived on time as scheduled and completed the job in one hour. All the work had to be done from a ladder (three stories). He returned for another job -- sanding and sealing my deck. He had replaced a worn board. Everything turned out well. I am very satisfied. Will be calling him for future jobs.

Karl did a great job. Hardware was missing and he handled that very well. Helped us figure what we needed and how to get it. Karl waited while my husband drove to Lowe’s to pick up the missing hardware so the project could be completed today.

I had very creaky stairs that I wanted to silence prior to having new carpeting installed. Kurt was accommodating to my scheduling needs and very clear and proactive in communicating with me - very professional. He showed up as planned and did a good job, explaining the structure of my stairs and how they limited just how quiet he could get them. Although they aren't silent now, they are significantly quieter and I am happy with the work.

Great - it was a small job, but Karl made an effort to squeeze us in as soon as possible. As usual the work was very well done.

Karl is an excellent handy man & did top notch work for us. Definitely would use again. New roof to replace 30+ year old roof on our older home. Glass block windows to replace ancient steel windows in basement along with cleaning up & sealing the wall. Door not closing properly, fixed that right up as well. Great & honest! Took time to explain what he was doing, approximately how long job would take, all round great guy! Truly appreciative!

We are so glad we hired Karl. He does excellent work for very reasonable prices. The best part is there is very little he can’t do, so you don’t have to hire many different people. couldnt be happier with his work and will definitely hire him again!!

Karl responded to my call within an hour. We discussed the roofing issue. I forwarded photos of my roof and Karl was able to purchase the replacement roof vent material in advance of his call. He removed the old roof vent and quickly made the repairs just as a thunderstorm was approaching. Service was exceptional.

Karl has good ratings but he has to show in order for me to judge his quality. Karl came and gave me estimate and scheduled work date. I called day before and Karl confirmed all good to go. Next day came and no Karl. I called and left voicemail. Five days later and Karl has never returned call.

I had the above item flagged during a home inspection, and it needed to be addressed quickly. Karl was very pleasant and accommodating over the phone, his workmanship was high quality and the price was very reasonable.

The experience with Karl is always excellent. He is efficient, responsive, comes up with multiple ways to problem solve, and does solid work.

Excellently. Karl takes care in everything he does. He had initially tried something different for the basement steps that he wasn't happy with, so he went a different route and did not charge me for the initial time. He works efficiently and is friendly and responsive.

Karl is prompt and efficient. Work is always completed without concern. Highly recommended.

He was a no-show. Despite the fact that it was on a Sunday morning, I waited for him and canceled my other activities. I called him at both of his phone numbers and he never returned my calls. I was really disappointed because I had bought services from him originally and he did a good job. Then I used him again for additional work. I don’t know what happened to him.

I have a wall to a Patio Enclosure that needed painted and crown work done. I called Karl and he stated that he would be out to take a look that Saturday and that he would definitely be able to do the work since he had some other work out in the same area that he was working on. He took a look and said that he would get back to me that day or the following Monday with an estimate and stated that he would do the work 1-week later. I did not hear back that day or Monday so I waited until late in the day on Tuesday to text. It took 3-4 texts before he finally texted back that their was some sort of family emergency. He asked me to give him another day to give me the estimate. No problem, I fully understood. Today is FIVE days later and he has since not answered his texts or phone calls simply asking if he plans on still doing the work. They plan on putting the floor in my enclosure late this week and I still do not have the wall painted and now must look elsewhere for a handyman to possibly complete the work. All this man needed to do was say that he could not perform the work and I would have understood and looked elsewhere but he chose to simply blow me off and ignore my attempts to contact him. Truly one of the worst experiences dealing with someone in my life. HIRE AT YOUR OWN RISK!

Everything went well. We set up a date for Karl to come and evaluate the issues and he was upfront and honest about what needed to be done and the cost. About a week later, he went to the store to get everything he needed for the work and he came and had everything done in about an hour. Very nice guy that I plan to call on again for help. I highly recommend Karl!
