We called Bill (the owner) and he came out within a week to give us an oral estimate on a new deck. He had some suggestions that greatly improved on our plan, which we adopted, and we received his written estimate a week later. Bill then submitted the required plan (drawings, material specs, etc.) to the township. Approval took a couple of weeks but that is not unusual and had nothing to do with the contractor. The footers were dug and poured on Tuesday (which took maybe 2 hours), the lumber delivered on Friday, and the work commenced Saturday with the removal of the old steps and installation of the framing. The decking, railings, new steps, and gate were completed by Sunday afternoon. The code enforcement officer inspected the work a week later and said the work was 100% up to code. All told, the deck took 2 days to complete with one workman assisting. Bill is calm, nice, very professional, and kept faithfully to the time line he quoted. There were no hidden costs or surprises and all leftover materials were removed as though no one had been there. Now, almost a year later, our deck is solid as a rock. Recently Bill was in the neighborhood and stopped by to remind us that at one year we should pressure wash the deck and apply a water sealer before winter. That was a really nice reminder of how to preserve our deck.
