Wichman Landscape Construction

Jeff was very easy to work with. He took detailed notes, and we spoke frequently. We met several times to review everything before I decided to go with Wichman. The crew was professional and hard working. The project was done in the fall, so we agreed for him to come out in spring and reseed/make any adjustments as needed. Followup occurred as planned.

All the correct construction methods for a block retaining wall were utilized: gravel bed, gravel backfill, mesh tieback within the gravel tieback. Topsoil was placed on top of the gravel backfill, then mulch. The yard area torn up by equipment was leveled, covered with topsoil, seeded, then topped with mushroom mulch. The only thing I would have done different was the cutting of blocks where partial lengths were required. The crew cut slivers of block next to a full block vs. cutting two blocks to fill the same void. Less than half a block width is not good construction per on my engineering background. All other concerns I had were quickly dealt with by the contractor.

The service is very good. They usually send 3 or 4 guys. They usually take an entire day. They are here first thing in the morning till about 4 to 5.30pm. I like the owner, he is very professional. This year, I didn’t like the edging that they did. When I called him to tell him, he had the guys come out the next morning. He actually came with them and showed them how I liked my edging done. He’s good about doing what you like and if you don’t like it, he comes back. I don’t think I can find anybody cheaper.

First, the excavation work was handicapped by one of the wettest months in recent memory.With muddy digging, this might have made our driveway an impassible mess. Wichman continually put down fresh gravel over the mud& existing gravel in order to make our driveway passable at the end of the day. In spite of the water issue with the wall footers, I feel tht Wichman did an outstanding job, making sure the wall was on a firm foundation. The new wall added design elements that was missing from the original wall. Besides knowing the basics of the trade, Wichman has a good vision when comes to building a structure that is attractive to the eye. While putting up a basic versa lok wall is simple,it was the cutting & fitting to my steps & other areas, that showed craftsmanship. They did an outstanding job of tying the wall into the existing structures. Jeff Wichman, along with his crew were neat, polite & unobtrusive to our lives during the project. They did an outstanding job of leaving our property with no mess. This project took about 3 weeks to complete. The crew worked hard all day while they were here, with no wasted time. Wichman Landscape Construction worked with a professional manner & craftsmanship in the executions of the details, leving an attracive structure I can be proud to own.

Everything is going well. The gentleman is professional, does excellent work, and charges a fair price for his services. He installed a retaining wall and a fire pit a few years ago and did a great job with that as well.
