I had a leak in my ceiling around the fireplace chimney. Thought it was coming down the flue and had new chimney cap installed.. Well the low cost option did not work so I called Tom Kuhn and got an appointment for a quote. He came on time and provided a quote to my wife. I got two other quotes that were at least 50% more and included work that was not needed. I then scheduled with Tom for a date. He and his son came on the appointed date and they removed the old flashing, custom bent and attached new copper flashing and sealed it in place. Been 4 months now and so far no leaks and with the rains we had this spring, it would have leaked by now. Problem solved.

Called and looked for a quote (12th person called BTW for such information). He was prompt and arrived and gave a written estimate within a couple days. I had some wait built in as they finished some large work for a few other people, but as soon as someone became available they arrived and got the work done in one day and were on time and finished quickly with little to no evidence they had been there aside from the lack of my two leaks in the roof. Thank you so much. I can stop the indoor swimming pool I was developing in my bedroom. I have already given the contact info to a few people for any roof work they need done.

Tom and Don are trustworthy and I would definitely use their service again. I highly recommend them!!!

The work was done very quickly and professionally. The broken slates on the roof were repaired. We had no problems since then. We are very pleased with the work performed.

Don't remember the date. Received a prompt response, with explanation as to why the work went beyond his scope. Other major work needed first - beyond roofing. Work on both aspects now proceeding by local contractor.

Excellent-called at lunchtime about missing shingle-told me a few days before they could fix-came 2 hours later & found a huge hole in roof where squirrels were getting in-awesome company

Tom was responsive from the initial phone call to the home visit. He was punctual, professional, and personable..

We found the company on Angie's list and decided to call them for an estimate based on all previous reviews. We glad we did - the owner was very nice and courteous, he gave us a competitive price on a quality product and the installation was done according to the initial schedule. The guys who were actually working on the roof were very polite, they cleaned up everything well and the only tiny problem we had was with our newly installed awning - it got a small tear, although they were extremely careful while working around it. We could have avoided it, if the awning was put in place after the roof replacement. Other than that everything went well and we would definitely recommend the company and, if needed, hire them again.

I phoned and left a message asking Tom Kuhn if he could handle a small job of installing a roof vent for a bathroom exhaust fan. He returned my call within an hour, provided a rough estimate on the phone and said his crew would call in the next few days prior to arrival. To my surprise his crew called the following morning and arrived 30 minutes later. Due to decay of the 95 year old decking in the spot where the vent needed to be placed additional work was required. His crew brought down a damaged sample of the decking, explained what would be needed to remedy the situation and an updated estimate. The work was completed within two hours at a lower cost than anticipated. In addition his crew provided extra shingles and cleaned the work area spotless.

Fair-good. The workers were courteous and prompt. However, only the area just over the seams (1"-2") were cleaned of old sealent and re-sealed. Gutter corners and downspouts were well-done but, would not connect the one downspout to the storm drain--we had to hire a plumber to do this at extra charge. 2 of the corners leaked with first rain and they did come right away to fix after I called. I felt that the price was excessive given the type of work and the amount of time it took. I would have graded them higher if they would have done a better job removing old sealant and tied in the one new downspout in to the storm drain.

I choose another contractor.

We had water leaking into our kitchen and into our basement and that was coming from the roof. There's supposed to be flashing on the roof and in two spots on the roof the guys who did the roof had never put any flashing, so when it rained the water was just coming in, hitting the bricks running underneath the roof tiles and running down into the house. So Tom Kuhn Home Improvement were scheduled to do the fascia but they came and did the flashing within three days just to make sure that was done because we had storms coming. They were fantastic. As soon as I said we were having this issue, they said they can't fit the soffit and fascia for a few weeks but then his dad, Tom, said he'll make sure his son is there in a couple of days and not to worry about it. Also, we had a couple of quotes and they were the lowest. They were very down to earth; there was no extra sales pitch and they weren't slick and professional.

I called the number and a very polite woman told me they would come as soon as the weather improved They called this morning and came when they said. Looked to see the problem. Gave us an estimate and said what he felt the water was coming from. Left to get supplies they needed. Returned quickly fixed what was wrong and showed us the damaged parts also fixed flashing on back porch and broken gutter in front. Left everything as they found it. We were pleased and would recommend them to anyone

The quote was high and I didn't use them. They were quick so they got out here pretty quickly.

I had water leaking in my home and assumed it was coming from the roof. As a result of the leak, I also needed drywall repaired on my ceiling. I called Tom to ask if he could come take a look at the roof--hoping one contractor could fix both problems. I spoke with him and he said he'd call me back. More than a month later, I've never heard from him. Luckily, I found more responsive contractors through Angie's List and both issues were resolved/repaired in a timely manner.

It went pretty well and we are fine with his work. The job was done satisfactorily.

He did a good job. We would recommend them. We did recommend them to a neighbor that used them. I was away when they did the work but we were satisfied with it. The pricing was good but I was looking to go a little cheaper.

We called them, they visited, prepared a written estimate and sent it to us. After a short telephone conversation clarifying work to be done, we approved. They came on the time and date agreed to. They went to work and finished on the second day. They painted trim that was replaced with paint we provided. Result is excellent

A MAN WAS SENT OUT . HE DID A TEMPORARY PATCH ($60) AND NOTED THAT THE PREVIOUS INSTALLER HAD MISPLACED THE STAPLES ( IN LINE WITH THE SEPARATION OF THE SHINGLES INSTEAD OF UNDER THEM)SO THAT WITH TEMPERATURE CHANGES, "NAIL" HOLES ENLARGED, AND THE 11 YR.OLD ROOF STARTED TO LEAK . WHEN A NEW LEAK APPEARED IN A DIFFERENT PLACE, WE DECIDED TO REPLACE THE ROOF (AFTER ANOTHER TEMPORY PATCH). A GANG OF MEN COMPLETED THE INSTALLATION JUST AS SNOW FLURRIES STARTED TO FLY.

It went well - he diagnosed the problem, had to purchase a roll of copper sheeting (is that what it's called?) to create the flashing and charged us for the roll, but turned over what was left to us. Now I'm wondering what to do with most of a roll of expensive copper! The whole installation took only about half a day once all the materials had been obtained. Time from initial diagnostic visit to completion of project was only a couple days.

Although the service has been completed to my overall satisfaction (that is, I did get a new roof and skylight out of this experience), I would not recommend this company and, in hindsight, would not have used it. I believe that the main issue with them is lack of clear and effective communication. I was always interacting with at least 3 people (the father, the wife?, and the son). Although I appreciate that they are a family business, I believe they should someone answer the phone in a professional manner and keep the conversation 'alive'. Right from the beginning, I indicated we wanted a new skylight installed and that this skylight should have some sort of blinds. I can't tell you just how frustrating it was to try and get them to show me different choices. Basically, they never did. So I was pretty much at their mercy when it came to the type of skylight, blinds color, etc. Every time I tried talking to them, they made me feel like it was an imposition, as if they were doing the service for free (yeah, right!). I believe I'm overall very polite, friendly, and well-mannered, so I don't understand why they didn't respond in a more professional way. To top things off (in a very bad way), I noticed that after they had told me everything had been completed, one of the rain spouts was completed hanging off the wall because they FORGOT to screw it back! Yikes! So all in all, if you cannot afford better service, they'll get it done for you for a competitive price. But if you can afford better/more courteous service, I say go for it!

My husband and I discovered a leak in our roof during the heavy rains at the beginning of December. We contacted Kuhn based on previous Angie's List reviews. We were not disappointed. Tom and his son came out the day after we put a call in. I explained the situation and also asked them to assess any other potential issues. They both spent time on the roof and then brought pictures down to show me problem areas. It turned out our leak problem was only a missing shingle, but they seemed really concerned over a warped board and damaged shingles that were caused when siding brackets were poorly installed into the roof. They also found that the seal around some flashing was pretty much gone and should be replaced before leak problems occurred. On the positive side for us, they believed we still had about 5-10 years left on our roof. Based upon their assessment, we decided to have them do the work. They came the next day and fixed everything. What really impressed me was that they brought the damaged shingles down and showed me up close what caused the warped board issue. They also made we aware of some issues to address with our chimney that was out of their scope of work. My husband and I were extremely impressed by their professionalism and they gained our trust with how they treated the entire process.

Tom Kuhn is a man of his word and his customer service is outstanding. He dropped off more shingle samples at my house the day I requested to look at more! He kept in touch with me throughout the entire process and answered all of my questions. I would hire hiim again.

Contractor had given an estimate of $250.00 to replace the fascia. Also said they could tack down loose shingles for an additional unspecified charge. They said they would call before coming to do the work, so that we could be home. But instead, they just came out did the work, including tacking the loose shingles, and left without being paid. We didn't have to be home. They then sent a bill for only the quoted $250.00. They were very responsive and easy to deal with.

They did excellent work. They were very nice and knowledgeable. They are a good choice, when I look in to doing my roof they are one of the people I will contact.
