Kuhn Home Improvements was prompt, professional, and easy to communicate with throughout the entire process. Tom Kuhn was very responsive to phone calls and would always make sure I got an answer to any question that day. We received quotes from three different roofers and Kuhn Home Improvements was the cheapest. We chose to go with them not because they were the cheapest, but because they were the most responsive to our quote request and also because they only quoted us on the work we needed to have done instead of throwing a bunch of extra expenses into the quote for things that really did not need attention or replacing. The crew was very courteous and they started work early each day.They cleaned up the vast majority of debris after the job was done and I only found about a dozen nails and a few small pieces of shingle in the entire yard after they left. Not too bad considering how many got pulled off with the old roof. I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to friends and family in the area.

Great. They arrived on time and went right to work. They did a great jon. Problem solved. It was the second time I had used them, and I will use them again.

They did the job as discussed and arrived early to do it. We were very happy.

The crew arrived as scheduled and got right to work setting up equipment and began removing the old worn out shingles. They had to replace more than one hundred twenty feet (120') of rotted lumber at the roof line above the gutters, around the chimney and throughout. They applied an ice and water shield on the first three feet of roof above gutter and then used a synthetic roofing underlayment for better protection the remainder instead of felt paper. They installed thirty (30) year warrantied fiberglass shingles. They installed new chimney and wall flashings, plus new soil pipe flanges. The existing roof vents were inadequate so they were replaced with new ridge vents. The chimney mortar was in fair shape, with some loose bricks towards the top and needed repointing through out. Brian did a neat and thorough job on the chimney. Our bathroom fan was never vented properly so they added a bath vent in the roof to take care of that problem. With as much dirt a 30 yr. old roof creates the guys did an excellent job cleaning up the debris on job site. Don,Brian and the crew are hard working, professional and considerate of your property as well as adjoining property. We will in the future hire Tom Kuhn Home Improvements.

They came out 3 on separate occasions and eventually decided to rehang the downspout that was the noise culprit. Given the multiple trips made and the effort they put forth to use what was already in place (free of charge) this company is not out to make a fast buck. Quality honest business. Sure they could have resolved the issue in one trip by replacing every downspout and charging me for it all, but the time they spent coming to the house on 3 separate occasions, only replacing specifically where the problem was, and the minimal $100 they charged reflecting the work performed, was extremely appreciated.

Contacted Don via message board on Angie's list and described the problem. He gave me a price based on my description with the understanding the price would change If additional damage was found once they were on the roof. I agreed and a few days later the repairs were made with additional problems found. I want to stress how difficult it is sometimes to find a contractor willing to take the time to do minor repairs like mine in what is their busiest time of the year. Their help was greatly appreciated and won't be forgotten when it comes time to replace the entire roof next year. This contractor is highly recommended.

They did a fantastic job. The work ended up being more costly since the damage was a lot more extensive than we had thought (my entire front porch was separating from the house, it was close to falling in on itself or on someone else!) but the crew was able to figure out a solution on the fly and did what was needed at a fair price. They checked and made some improvements to other areas of our roof as well for free just to be helpful. I would definitely call on them again for any roofing needs I have in the future.

Responded to my call for an estimate promptly. It was explained that the gutters were improperly installed by a previous contractor which is why I had water coming into the basement when it rained. Had to replace the gutters. Came to perform the work a couple weeks later. Very professional, hauled the debris away, and there is no more water coming into the basement.

I had used Tom Kuhn Roofing before ( see older review) to add a roof to my previous home. This time when I needed to have the gutters of a different home rebuilt ( box style ) once again Kuhn did a great job. Dug trenches and laid drainage pipe. Replaced the porch roof with a rubber roof at my request and installed new gutters. Very thorough, prompt, they cleaned up and removed all of the debris. Need a roof or gutter / downspout work? i would call them again myself as soon as I get around to replacing the roof on my garage out back. I recommend Tom Kuhn for roofing and roof related work.

Mr. Kuhn and his son are courteous and professional. They are honest about their diagnosis, and they do give estimates on what they think is involved with a job. They will admit that there are unforeseen possibilities that can affect the price. We had not been in our home for very long when we had them replace our gutters. We called them back after we discovered a roof leak with the torrential rain that we had. They repaired that and we've had no problems with the roof leaking since.

Their receptionist informed me that they couldn't send someone to give me an estimate before the spring. However, it felt that this was not a problem until I gave her my address, which left me with the impression that they didn't want to service my area rather than simply being unavailable for a quote due to a solid booking.

Wonderful responsiveness when contacted! It took awhile to get the job done. I'm sure that was because our job was a "small" job for them vs. doing a whole roof, however, when they were ready they fit us right in! It was done earlier than the estimated time. The craftsmanship was wonderful! I would definitely recommend this company and would use them again!

The large skylight in our rear addition had been leaking whenever there was a heavy rain since it was installed 19 years ago. There had been myriad attempts to address the issue by other contractors over the years, but to no avail. We had decided to fix the leak once and for all this year and were prepared to completely replace the skylight. Our experience with Kuhn Home Improvements was terrific. Don and Tom came out to see what needed to be done within a week after we first called. We asked them to also prepare an estimate for the porch roof and gutters and if they could do the work, to fix any rotten wood on the exterior of our house. The estimate arrived by mail within a week or so and was very reasonable. We called to tell Kuhn that we wanted to hire them, they sent out a contract right away, we signed the contract immediately, and the work was scheduled to begin in a few weeks. In the contract, it specified that we would pay 1/3 of the payment when Mr. Kuhn called us to schedule the work and the second 1/3 after the first day's work. I was a little nervous about this, but our instincts were that it would be okay, that the Kuhns seemed to be people of integrity with considerable experience. The job went very, very well. Roofers are often a rough bunch, and in our city neighborhood the houses are close together; if there is a loud radio or profanity, not only the homeowners but also the neighbors are exposed to it. We were impressed that all the workers from Kuhn were respectful, did not smoke at all while on our property, and did not play a radio, let alone a loud radio, while they were working. However, a week after our new flashing around our old skylight was installed (Brian showed me the old flashing which had nail holes and was rusted out) along with our new gutters and roofs, there was a heavy rain late one afternoon, and the skylight leaked. I immediately called Mr. Kuhn, and he and Don arrived early the next morning to see what that problem was. Don climbed on our addition roof with a hose and sprayed water at different angles until the skylight leaked again. Apparently before we bought the house the siding had been installed incorrectly, and if it rained hard from a certain direction, the water was funneled into the corner of the skylight. The second half of the work was done quickly by Don, and afterwards (tempting the Devil!) he stood on the addition roof with the hose spraying strong jets of water on the siding and the roof trying to make the skylight leak. It has been a month, no leaks so far, and we do not expect that it will leak. If it does, however, we feel strongly that Kuhn Home Improvements will fix the problem. Our main roof will need to be replaced within the next few years, and Kuhn's Home Improvements will be the first contractor we call for an estimate.

The job went very smoothly, and looks great. We are very satisfied with the work. A crew of 3-4 guys arrived at 8:30 am each of the three days (2-1/2) it took to complete the job; they cleaned up the old roof debris very well, and had to carry everything to their dump truck because we don't have a front driveway -- which was extra work for them. Thanks Kuhn Home Improvements for a job well done -- we are looking forward to not worrying about our roof now for a very long time! They provided a fair price for a professional job -- thank you!!

Except for getting the estimate, which was okay because they didn't tell us prior to coming, the rest of the experience was exceptional. We called originally to get an estimate to relocate our old downspout from the rear right side of the house to the left side of the house and feed it into an existing drain on the front left side (the original side's drain collapsed underground). It took us a while to decide on getting the actual work done, however, when I called two months later, despite being busy (being peek season for roofing work), they were able to fit us in as a day job. I spoke to both Don and Brian, they were both very polite and professional. I was at first told they were not able to come out for another week, but was pleasantly surprised to come home the following day after scheduling to see that someone had already started setting up for the work. I called to confirm the exact date they will begin and was told the next day. I also explained that we had decided to deviate from the original plan and add on to the work being performed by wanting to tie the moved downspout runoff back to the sewer pipe in the front of the house. Brian explained that it will be no problem and said he will begin the work originally agreed upon and then provide an analysis and estimate for the addition. If the price was acceptable he would do everything that same day. When the work was completed, we were very happy with the result, the workmanship exceeded our expectations and his attention to detail was appreciated (since our neighbors have to look at the PVC pipe every time they go in between the houses, Brian made sure to remove all the markings on the pipes to make it look less obnoxious). On top of that, he offered to buy the black corrugated pipe we had used to divert the water from the gutter into our front yard as a temporary solution. Overall, if you don't mind the little notice, which we really didn't (we were all too happy to have the work done so soon), they were a great company to work with and we would definitely be calling them back for any other work. It was refreshing to have a great experience with a company after having dealt with many unreliable contractors over the past year.

Except for a rain day in the middle(which Brian attempted to work thru) it went very well. When I expressed concern over the trim-out of the new skylite, he agreed to re-do and explained what he would use. Fantastic!! Clean-up was very thorough. Pricing??? didn't shop the job!

I called mid-July and spoke to Tom Kuhn's wife or mother regarding a leak in my roof. The woman told me they were busy and that it would take about 2 weeks to get to me. Over a month later, no call from them - and when I called back, they were not interested in the work, too busy to do it. In the mean time, rain continues to leak in. You would think that they would let a person know up front that they can't take on this type of work. Yet another Pittsburgh contractor who is not interested in small jobs.

The owner came out and gave me an estimate and approximate time when the work would be completed. It was two weeks, which he said it would be, and they came out today. The cost ($350.00) was fair and the work was completed in a timely and professional fashion. The two gentlemen who worked on this were very courteous and took the time to explain exactly what the problem was causing the damage. I recommend Tom Kuhn and family workers for any such roofing needs and will contact them in the future if and when additional work needs to be provided.

They were very good. They are very up front and honest. They finished the work on time.

Everything went very well, and I will happily call them again. I was delighted by their kind surprise of cleaning up extra debris that wasn't even from their work.
