 + -1 moreI do not believe that the skylight needed removal or that I should have to pay for half of its replacement.
Description of Work: I hired Kuhn roofing to do a roof repair. During the repair, they damaged the seal to my skylight, something they shouldn't have had to remove in the first place, and subsequently now I have to pay for half of the replacement fee.

 + -1 moreWe had several companies take a look at this problem, and all of them except Tom Kuhn came up with a very high price that we thought was not worth it. They all suggested more than we wanted, where Tom Kuhn started from the simplest solution and though his initial estimate was lower than what we ended up having to pay, we ended up with exactly what we needed at a much lower price. The work is very solid and worth all what we paid. This company is very busy, but Tom Kuhn was always honest about this and in the end we got the work done fairly rapidly.
Description of Work: We have had some leaks from the overhang in the front of our house. Initially we thought replacing the gutter would be enough, but it turned out that some of the tile and the matting above the overhang was in bad shape.

He was supposed to call on my cell to give the estimate and he mailed it instead (delaying the process even longer). His estimate was far off. His estimate was $9000, and I've received other estimates around $2800. This is not comparing apples to apples.

 + -1 moreThis installation was for an 82 year old lady. We got 3 estimates form people on Angie's List and he was the lowest without any negotiating. They provided a quality product, installed it when they promised, finished the job quickly and efficiently and were very courteous to my mother while they were working. She was very impressed.
Description of Work: Total roof replacement. When they came out to estimate the job they voluntarily repaired a spot that could have been problematic until they could schedule the job.

 + -1 moreWork was done by three men who worked with only one short break. The necessary work was explained by the crew prior to starting and again after the job was completed. No additional embellishments were offered and the roof was inspected for any further potential problems. Would definitely hire this company again.

 + -1 moreI called for an estimate to fix a leak affecting the masonary on my back wall. I told them I thought it was a loose piece of fascia that I could see. Tom and his son came out the same day I called and were able to fix the visible damage right away. They also inspected the seals on my gutters, which turned out to be the more likely cause of the leak. They gave me a quote for the repair of the gutters. While I ultimately went with a lower bid for the gutter repair, it was a tough decision because I could tell Mr. Kuhn's good reputation is well deserved. I will definitely keep them in mind for future work.
Description of Work: Repaired soffit and fascia , nailed down loose bits and checked gutters for leaks.

The work was done promptly, and the old roofing material was completely cleaned up and hauled away. Tom Kuhn Home Improvement made getting a new garage roof easy.

 + 0 moreThe quality of the job work was excellent and the crew was great. It took over six weeks for them to schedule the work, so be patient. The communication to inform us of when the job was going to start was lacking as well, but it happened about the time I expected it to so we were taken off guard. Other quotes I received, recommended replacing the roof with asphalt shingles instead of repairing the tin, but this seemed to be more of a ploy for a pricier job.
Description of Work: They scraped, repaired, resealed and repainted tin roofs over our front and back porches.

 + 0 moreThe experience was great. I highly recommend them, and would use them again. Tom told me right away that they could not come for 3 weeks, since it was the middle of the summer I assumed it was good they weren't waiting by there phone waiting for my call. Tom came out later that week and gave me an estimate that was very fair. They came before I expected (inside of 3 weeks from the first call). The work was done over two days and done very professionally. They cleaned up everything and hauled away all materials. Even small details were done well.
Description of Work: They repaired the in roof gutters (scuppers), replaced all the steel douwnspouts with aluminum, repaired a part of the roof flashing by the chimney and replaced a corrugated Fiberglas roof over the patio.

 + -1 moreAfter receiving an estimate from one company for $2,000, I had decided to hold off because of the expense. Then I contacted Tom Kuhn and he looked at the job and told me I didn't need to have most of the work done except sealing the flat roof. I wanted to have one windowsill fixed and three sets of shutters replaced, and I had him do the work for me. Because I got a second opinion from Tom Kuhn and he is honest, I was able to have the roof sealed and I saved $1,680 in unneeded repairs. I recommend him and I would hire him again. The young men working for him are polite, prompt and did a good job and cleaned up when the finished.
Description of Work: Put sealer on a flat roof and replaced three sets of shutters that had blown off on the outside of the house. Also, covered one windowsill with aluminum siding.

 + -1 moreMiscommunication, apparent lack of organization regarding the schedule leads me to believe I am glad I am going with a different company.
Description of Work: Called Kuhn home improvement for roof work I was unsure if the gutters needed replaced or not, and that some areas of roofing needed repair. After Tom returned my call, he said it would be 2 months at least and that in that time he would call back. A couple of days later I received a call that 2 guys would be down to measure the house for gutters. I wasn't even sure they needed replacing. They gave me an estimate to replace the gutters on the whole house. $2900. Tom called back the same day with a corrected price of $2300. Subsequent estimates indicated that the gutters were fine, did not need replacing and only some minor roof repairs were necessary.

 + 0 moreExcellent. They came promptly when first contacted. When Don Kuhn came for the estimate, he caulked the skylight immediately to stop further leaking. This was before he knew if he would get the job or not. Work was performed in a timely manner, everything was cleaned up, and both Don and Bob were very courteous. I definitely would use them again. I would highly recommend this family run business.

However, I was told immediately that he was book solid for a full month (I only needed a roof leak to be sealed/taken care of). When I managed to ask if he would have a referral, I was told to look in ''phone book''. Too much of a good business ruins good manners, it seems. I ended up hiring someone else who came with 2 assistants within one day from my call, and did the job in under 2 hours time, for $125.00
