At some point after installation water got in chimney and rusted entire unit. No way to know it was happening because the unit can’t be moved to inspect and there was no puddling, staining, etc. Warranty won’t cover it. $5500 total waste
Description of Work: $5500 for wood stove insert that rusted in 1 1/2 yrs. Contacted them repeatedly with emails, phone calls, pictures and certified letter. Took a judge and 5 months to even get them to come out and take a look. Bottom line- customer service is non-existent and the product is an expensive piece of crap.

We already had a gas line into our log fireplace to ignite logs. We selected a Heat n Glo fireplace insert from The Fireplace and Patioplace store. Someone came and measured our fireplace and gave the final estimate. Three weeks later two men came to install it, a big job (4 hours). Two metal pipes were inserted into our chimney, one for air intake, the other for exhaust. A rain and animal guard was placed at the top of the chimney. Connections were made. The resulting gas fireplace looks lovely and we are toasty warm in the cool evenings. We turn down the household thermostat when we have the fireplace running. We did have a small gas leak in our part of the connection, which Fand P came quickly and fixed. They also gave us another lesson on the remote that controls the fireplace.

Went to the store and the salesperson initially did not acknowledge us, although there was no one in the store. When we eventually got to ask him about a potential service of our fireplace, he seemed very disinterested and dismissive. In the end he asked us about the brand of our fireplace. As we did not know this, he indicated that they will only service one particular one and that unless we know which one ours is, he cannot help us.

If the homeowner does not know the brand/make of the fireplace we cannot service it because fireplaces are very serious appliances and require manufacturer specific parts to keep it safe. Just like a car. We would never jeopardize safety for a sale. If you are able to find out the brand/model of your fireplace please call our service department, we are happy to schedule a service call at that time.

Description of Work: Showed up in store and waited in line for half an hour to talk to rep (was not even acknowledged in the meantime) only to be told that we would have to schedule an appointment for someone to come out. We asked if we could go ahead and set that up and were told to call the next day after 10 to schedule. Obviously they were not overly interested in our business. If so, they could have taken our name and number and made the call to us the next day. After being treated so rudely, we were not about to go out of our way to give this company our money.

Omar was very professional and knowledgeable about all the fireplace inserts. He helped pick out the correct size and color finish. The estimator arrived at my house and explained how and what they would have to do and the time table from ordering to installation. The installers arrived on time. Very courteous and respectful and keepong the floors clean durring installation. The explained what they did and how to use the equipment before leaving.

Sent two emails via the website requesting that we needed our fireplace serviced as it is not working properly. After over a week they had still never replied. We called to request service and they charge $170 just for a tech to even come look at it. They were extremely rude over the phone and we will never use this company.

The Fireplace/Patio Place was far more helpful than any other company I have contacted. Now I just need to wait until spring to move forward with the project.
Description of Work: I went to the store to get information about options for making my fireplace functional. The guy who was working walked me through all of my potential options given the size of fireplace I have. He even gave me a little history about what was likely in my fireplace originally. He gave me the name of a chimney sweep he recommends to get the chimney scoped to determine what can be done.

The first set of 2 installers run the blowers power cord out from the fireplace insert, across my hearth and plugged it into the wall and said they could not connect the power source to the electrical power that was in the fireplace wall. The supervisor came one month later and said the power cord could be connected behind the unit and I waited more month for him to do the work. Once it was completed, it looked great and operated well. It took multiple phone calls and 3 months from the time of purchase to get this unit installed without the power cord running across my hearth. It should be noted that the showroom displays show and sales brochures do not display any visable signs of a power cord.

04/03/2013 I purchased vent free gas logs at the Fireplace and Patio Shop in the North Hills. John B., the salesman, was excellent and the logs ordered were the perfect size for my small fireplace. When the logs arrived, the installation went fine. The two installers were meticulous in their work. A week later I requested a small adjustment. My installers returned and made the adjustment. All work was done fastidiously. The installers assured me that I should feel free to call if I have any problems or concerns. Because I had been accustomed to a log-burning fireplace, I did have a few more questions about the fireplace. The company sent out another excellent person to answer my questions. My experience with the Fireplace and PatioPlace was first rate. I found both the sales staff and the installation staff to be responsive, knowledgeable, and helpful. I highly recommend this shop. I also feel that the cost of the service, which included the vent free logs set and the installation, was completely reasonable.

This experience was the best I had with a contractor. The two Installers arrived on time, did a perfectly clean and professional installation, and finished faster than expected. The new unit works very well. From a deal standpoint, I bought the unit during a sale (10% off), after competitively quoting the unit and installation, for which F&PP was the lowest price overall. If I could give them an A+, I would. Definitely recommended.

When we had make our decision I returned to the showroom and asked for a written proposal, which I accepted, and was told that someone would have to come out to do their own measurements before we could schedule the installation. This was on a Friday and I was told that the gentleman would be calling on Saturday or Sunday night at the latest to schedule. Twelve days later I finally received that phone call asking if I was still interested to which I replied, no thank you. We had decided a copy of days prior that they must not need our business and visited a different showroom in Zelienople and selected and purchased an insert from them. They actually seemed interested in serving us and went above and beyond in assisting us with our selection. They also called us less than twenty four hours later to schedule a visit to measure and came the following day. When you are spending $5000+ on a product and installation you want to deal with someone reliable and I just didn't get that feeling from The Fireplace and Patio Place. If they can't be bothered to make a five minute phone call I question what their availability would be during installation and servicing.

I called main store to request an estimate for a fireplace insert. I was told that I had to go into the store and first speak to the sales staff. She told me that they can get an idea what I wanted. I don't get it. I told her what I wanted, so why do I have to go out of my way and go into the store? After telling her what I wanted I got the feeling (from her condescending tone of voice) that they don't want the sale badly enough. I know that this is their policy but I think that the policy needs to change. If she is part of the company that it starts with the person who picks up the telephone. It's nothing that anybody did. It is what they didn't do which was to act interested. Weird vibe and just from a telephone call. No problem, I'll take my business elsewhere. I didn't want to judge them too harshly because I didn't get past an initial phone call. Its a shame; They missed out on a sale.

We bought some gas logs for our fireplace, and paid to have them install the logs. When the logs came in, they came out and did a draft test, and told us they could not install the logs, until the chimney was fixed. We fixed the chimney, and the chimney sweep installed the logs. On our invoice, the install portion said glass doors, which was just part of the coding. However, when talking with Karen to schedule the install of the glass doors, she did not inform me that we hadn't purchased glass doors. So they came out again, and told us that we did not purchase glass doors and left. Between the two trips, they may have spent 20 minutes in the house, and charged us $149. When I called about a refund, for at least part, they said no. The owner said no, the manager said no. I was then informed I should have been charged more since they came out twice. John, the manager, also informed me that they could not do survive in business if I wasn't charged. There coding system is confusing to them since the installers don't know what we had purchased until they came out, there by saving themselves a trip. On a personal note, they were quite indignant.

I stopped in the Mt. Lebanon store several times. You get this feeling when you walk in that you are bothering them. Bottom line: they have this "we know this is not exactly what you want but this is the best you will find" attitude. No suggestions, no customer service. I won't go back.
