We are a small HVAC business in the South Hills area. All of my employees have degrees and are certified HVAC Techs and are my employees not subcontractors. We are fully licensed and insured and are a registered contractor with the Attorney Generals office. We offer no gimmicks and extremely affordable prices.

The HVAC tech, Rob, was scheduled to arrive between 10-12, called me around 10:40 to say he’d be arriving at 11:00. Was right on time, everything was very easy and straightforward. System was cleaned and were now good to go for the winter heating season. I will definitely be using them again, they were very easy to get ahold of and it was a simple process from scheduling to work completion. Highly recommend!!
Description of Work: We wanted to have our boiler/heating system simply cleaned and tested before the cool weather started to set in. Their tuneup cost for this is $89.95, which is in line with other providers in the area.

We called for a quote, the staff was super friendly. The person showed up on time and was super helpful, any person that says gillece is the worst is Ok in my book. He was so helpful and very understanding of our situation. A power surge took out our AC and Furnace. He actually gave one of the best quotes. Only thing was our insurance only gave us so much money and they do not offer any financing. Although the owner did offer to let us make a few payments, that was really helpful, but we still couldn't afford the unexpected cost and went with someone else. If you want someone that is helpful and understanding go with this company.

We have looked into numerous financing options and to be honest we can't find one that we can get behind that is fair to our customers. They are very misleading in the sense that they offer 0% interest for a period of time when actually the interest is front loaded into the price of the installation. I usually recommend going through your bank. It's usually the fairest interest without all of the set to fail terms of these financing companies. We completely understand though sometimes you have to do what you can. We are just happy that you have cooling and if there is anything we can ever do please let us know. Two men arrived - I feel awful that I can't remember their names! This is why I should write reviews right away. Anyway, two men arrived in the time specified and got right to work. They checked over the furnace and the humidifier, and ascertained that all was in working order. I specifically asked them to check the furnace filter - which was fine. And also, they showed me how the humidifier worked, which I was most grateful for. It seems I was not as well educated on it's operation as I thought I was. All in all, they were here and gone in no time. They had come and gone so quickly and cleanly that I was able to join my friend for lunch after all! I can highly recommend Ted Thompson Heating.

I'm glad we were able to help even if just for the service portion. Our prices our usually very competitive, We are actually well known for how reasonable our prices are. However, this particular brand of motor was a significant amount more that others and it had to be from that particular distributor, The distance also plays a factor when we have to travel back to the distributor to obtain the part and then come back again to install. Also it is a brand that we do not sell or carry parts for so we don't get any special pricing. Another factor is when another company already knows what needs to be replaced and is only making one trip to install that certainly cuts costs. We include that all into our prices. We don't add diagnostic fees etc... We completely understand you looking around for the best price. There are never any hard feelings. Just wanted you to know we aren't one of those companies that price gouge and we try to keep our prices fair and if you ever need anything else we are always happy to help even if we don't get the job. I contacted Thompson and was very nicely greeted by the dispatcher, Tammi. The young man who arrived to do the work was more your Gary Cooper silent type, but, in this abysmal heat, he went up and down from attic to blower to basement until he located the problem. That wasn't easy because my heat/AC is so strangely configured. He did figure it out, and replaced the necessary parts 1-2-3. He showed me the parts he had replaced, the damage that had created the problem. I found Ted Thompson through Angie's List, and am so glad I did. I figured I would have to wait a couple of days, but he arrived a couple of hours after my phone call. After he left, the A/C was purring, the house getting deliciously cool. I sat down and fell asleep in my chair; first good sleep I've had in four days. Blissful.
Description of Work: Found the source problem of my dead AC, on the hottest four days of the summer. I was desperate, 88 degrees in my bedroom. I called today, he responded today. He diagnosed the problem, replaced two parts, and was on his way.

Very polite. Got the job done fast. Even conversations and in-house estimate done before hand were very professional. Will use them again for my HVAC needs. Came on same day as movers for new house and were completely out of the way getting their job done. They were not the lowest price (were mid-ranged), but their appearance and professionalism beforehand got them the job.

Went perfectly, they fix the issue the first time and never have to come back.
Description of Work: We woke up with furnace problem, called Ted Thompson at 8 am and his worker was at my house by 10 am. The serviceman, Rob, was great! He called prior to arriving to introduce himself, showed up 15 minutes early and found the problem quickly! He did a thorough inspection on the unit to make sure everything was running properly after the repair. I would definitely recommend their services.

I called last evening to schedule an appointment. They told me they could be here today between noon and 1pm. When they didn't come or call by 1:15, I was beginning to worry that they wouldn't show. But the tech called shortly after and said he'd be to my house in 15 minutes. He got to the house, did all the work he was scheduled to do, and was done in less than an hour. He was very courteous and quiet. I will definitely call them again in the future.

Late at night I began smelling gas- I called the gas company who responded promptly and discovered a burnt heating element. They red flagged the unit and I called Ted Thompson at 8:30 am the next morning. First let me say we have used Ted Thompson for over 20 years- He replaced the furnace when we moved it and has also replaced the airconditioner. Ted is a professional and a gentleman. We have consulted him many times for various issues and he is extremely honest and reasonable. I had no doubt when I called them that morning they would have someone there that day and I left my door unlocked so they could enter and fix the problem. By 10:am Rob was at my house and called me at work to confirm the problem, solution and everything was taken care of in that one service call. I cannot say enough positive about this company. They are prompt, reasonably priced and know what they are doing.

I have used Ted Thompson for years and the technicians have always been wonderful, especially Rob who is frequently the one they send for any issues and routine inspections. They installed a new furnace in my house and both of my children's houses as well as new A/C units and humidifiers in my children's houses. They are very timely, reasonably priced, neat, and professional in their installation. When my daughter needed a new furnace in her old house, they were able to find that her current furnace had been recalled and was involved in a class action lawsuit so she was eligible for a new furnace at a very discounted price. She would have never known as the original heating and cooling people who had been servicing the furnace for the previous owners never went to great lengths to let her know, they just kept charging her for fixing it. I would recommend Ted Thompson to any one who needed a reliable, affordable and professional heating and cooling company.

We had Ted Thompson put in a new furnace/ac about 2 years ago. They removed the 60 year old furnace and 25 year old ac and installed the new system to our complete satisfaction. Everything works great. We have Ted's people come out yearly to check everything and change the furnace. We couldn't be happier.

We're filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. I think that says it all.
Description of Work: Waste our time. Our air conditioner wasn't working for most of the month of June due to their incompetence. They started with a Freon charge with dye, when that didn't work they told us that we needed a new coil. When that didn't work they blamed it on a loose connection to the new coil. And when that didn't work Ted called us back at 10:00 pm at night to yell at us about how inconvenient it was that his staff had to keep coming out to our house to try to correct the problem.

Dear Mr. and Mrs. [member name removed], We sincerely apologize for your dissatisfaction and are truly regretful we couldn't come to a suitable resolution. We were called to 192 Graeser Avenue on 5-28-2013 late afternoon for a No Cooling call. I sent a serviceman to their home on 5-29-13. The unit was low on refrigerant. My serviceman added 3 Pounds of refrigerant and a capsule of dye into their system. Typically when a unit is low on refrigerant there is a leak in either the outside condenser or inside coil. We put dye into the system to be able to locate a leak if a problem reoccurs so that a customer isn't spending hundreds of dollars every year on re-charging. It's a 2 service call process and it really is the only way to find a leak. The dye needs to run through the system for a few days before checking with a UV light. If this wasn't explained properly by my technician I apologize. We were called again on 6-2-13 (Sunday) for the same problem. A serviceman was sent to their home on 6-3-13. Our serviceman found that the refrigerant was low again and proceeded to check the dye for a leak. The outside condenser was checked and did not show a leak at present time. A leak was found in the inside coil. A price to replace the coil was given and the customer agreed to the work. The coil was replaced. On 6-16-13 (Sunday) we received a call that the same problem was occurring and an appointment was made for 6-17-13 between 3 and 4. It is very hard to predict how the day is going to go and estimate how long each call is going to take. We try our best to be there in the desired time frame but sometimes unforeseeable events such as traffic prevent that. Mr. [member name removed] called at 4:30pm to say he had to leave. My secretary told him that our men were within 10 minutes away but he had to leave. We rescheduled for the following day 6-18-13 at 5:00pm. Mr. [member name removed] was adamant that this would be done at his convenience and we were more than happy to oblige. I had a serviceman waiting to be there at exactly 5pm the following day. Unfortunately it was low on refrigerant again. The only way to determine where it was leaking was to add more dye. After adding refrigerant and dye my Serviceman went over all of the connections to tighten anything that maybe had been loose. Again, he really couldn't be certain about the nature of the problem until the dye could be checked. I also instructed him to put a freeze stat on that automatically shuts down the unit if it begins to freeze to avoid damage. These steps were never meant to be a solution and I'm sorry if that wasn't explained properly. It was just all that could be done until the dye could be checked. On 6-23-13 (Sunday) I did receive a message on my voicemail from Mr. [member name removed]. Because it was Sunday and I was not in the office the call did get returned late. When I called he was very upset and my comment was " Believe me, I want to get this resolved as much as you do especially with the price of refrigerant today." I certainly didn't mean that I was angry with him or that any of this was his fault. There was just nothing I could do at that moment except send my serviceman out the next morning. We weren't permitted to return. I completely understood their frustration and I was 100% willing to get my men out there the next morning to resolve the issue. We would of been able to check the dye and the problem would of been solved. We don't like to just condemn equipment until we know that it's the source of the problem. There could of been a leak in the lines, the condenser or even the new coil. This equipment is mass produced in a factory, it can certainly happen. If our coil had been defective or anything about our installation was improper I would of happily taken care of it at no charge. Had it been something else we would of worked with them for all of their inconvenience. I don't like to assume things with my customers money. I am not one of those companies that come into your home and tell you because something is older it all should be replaced. It's never been what we are about. However I am one of those companies that will go to any length to make sure a job is completed to the satisfaction of my customer and I am very sorry that I couldn't make that possible in this situation. We heard nothing from The [member name removed] until a week ago that a complaint was filed with the BBB asking for a full refund. We responded to the complaint, again 100% willing to talk about a fair resolution, and were never contacted. I tried again to contact The [member name removed] on 7-23-2013. I reached Mrs. [member name removed] and was hung up on after about 2 minutes. I understand their anger and am still willing to try and come to a fair agreement.
