There work is HORRENDOUS! They are EXTREMELY SLOPPY,CARELESS and UNRELIABLE. They will leave your home an utter mess.Because there work was so bad they had to redo the little work that they did several times and it is still was not done right. When they resurfaced the front stoop they slopped so much concrete all over my front yard including the red bricks on my front walkway. The clumps of concrete dried on the bricks ruining the surfaces of most of them. The resurfacing work was so bad you would have thought a child did the work.I cant close my front door because the concrete is so uneven and has since cracked and that was only 4 weeks ago.Rather then cleaning up after themselves they just threw the extra concrete all over the front yard, sweeping it into the flower beds ect. what ever was easier for them. When they were done for the day they poured the extra concrete down the sewer. It was they're pattern to make appts and not show up.They work about 2-4 hours every 10-14 days. They DONT RETURN CALLS-THEY DONT SHOW UP FOR WORK-THEY DO NOT DO WHAT YOU ASK UNLESS SUPERVISED!!! It took 9 WEEKS to get steps completed and that was only because they were threatened with a law suit if they didnt get the work done. That is all the work they did. They dismantled the existing retaining walls 9 weeks ago and left the rubble all over the place creating an absolute mess in my yard. There is large chunks of concrete, rocks, gravel thrown all over the yard and left it there because they never did replace the walls. They will show you a book of there work when they first come and you will be impressed but after they do the work you will be left in TEARS for how sloppy it looks and the mess that they leave behind. The owner WILL NEVER RETURN your call.IF YOU WANT GOOD CONCRETE WORK DONE CALL SOMEONE ELSE- THIS IS A COMPANY WITH A VERY BAD REPUTATION. BEWARE!!!!! DONT BE ANOTHER VICTIM.
Description of Work: I hired them to replace 2 retaining walls, build simple concrete steps in my yard, fix a sink hole in the basement and resurface the front stoop.

Terrible - messy unprofessional - dropping "F"bombs all the time - work was horrible. They were so messy that we will spend almost as much cleaning up and fixing things. They didn't finish work and now won't give us refund for work they didn't do.

They built the patio, but with no wall to keep someone from falling off the edge, a 4' ft drop onto driveway. I assumed that the wall go up high enough to keep this from happening, so I share the responsibility. The waterfall was put in but water started leaking through the wall. They couldn't figure out why, so the solution was to run a hose outside the waterfall and patch over it with concrete. It was a fix to a mistake, what happens if and when the hose rots? It took them months afterward to come back to color the patch job. The steps going up to the patio are still the original concrete steps that were there before the work, only now there are chunks of concrete chipped out when they did the demo on the old retainer wall. Concrete was left on our driveway, still there along with pieces all over the yard. They left demo pieces, concrete and dirt at the bottom of our yard and didn't come back to take away any debris until after we called and complained. They are nice guys, but I hate to see anyone else have to have the experience we did.

I left a review in 2014 regarding my walkway. After no response from the local Stonemakers, I contacted the corporate office and was basically told too bad, they are a franchise and there was nothing they can do about it. Steve Hogan did send me a few emails and I honestly believed that this was gonig to be taken care of. I am going to take the legal route next, although I felt that the parent company would help to rectify the situation. Please do not hire this company. You will be throwing money out the window and will not be happy with what you get. I was told by Steve Hogan that they do not do walkways or patios, and that is what I was told they do. They need to be put out of business, as they do not stand behind their work,. The last contact I had from Steve in May was that David was on a job at the Zoo in Pittsburgh and would not be available for three weeks. There is a pattern here, and as much as I have tried to make this work my next step is to get the legal system to do what the company should have done when they were made aware of the problem. We are retired and can not afford the cost to have the work redone, so I will do my best to make sure that this never happens to another person in Pennsylvania.

Description of Work: Our wall was not four feet like we agreed upon because they didn't order enough concrete. Their concrete mixer didn't work properly and blew out one of the hoses which sprayed concrete all over my yard and my neighbors driveway, which I cleaned up. They made a huge mess in the street when getting is the concrete from the mixing truck to the pump. I ended up cleaning that, as well. We do not have proper drainage behind the wall. And, the cherry on top was that our wall cracked right down the center two days after they built the wall so water from the grassy area above just funnels all right down into that crack, flooding the area below and there are huge craters forming in random places in the wall. I'm disappointed that we are stuck with this wall now.

Terrible - did not show up as promised to complete work. This has been going on since 2012. When David came to talk to us about the job I specifically asked if the concrete was going to be in one pour, and was assured it would. That didn't happen. It took them several days to form the job as they did not show up every day. One day I came home and there was concrete poured in part of the walk and the porch. Owner David said the concrete was sub par and would have to be torn out. Then they disappeared for several more days - turns out they were working on another job while my yard and porch sat. They came back without notifying me and poured the remaining areas and colored/sealed the entire job. Needless to say the coloring and texture did not match as the first pour was dry. I was assured they would fix it before they disappeared again. Then one day someone came and put another coat of color and sealant on. Problem was not fixed as the two pours were different. Over the winter of 2012/2013 the paint peeled on the first pour where they had painted on the dry concrete, and the concrete was crumbling. I send pictures to David and told him I wanted either my money back or the job done properly and was assured he would take care of it. Once again time went by with no contact and I had to send multiple emails to him. One day they showed up unannounced and began to grind the concrete where it was crumbling and repaint and reseal again. The only way I knew they were here was the fact that my daughter was meeting me at my home and she notified me. I came home immediately and told David I wanted the job redone, as there was no problem with the second pour peeling or crumbling as they had done the coloring when the concrete was wet, and that I did not like the look of the walk after they had ground it. I was told the proper way they do the concrete is to make areas around the faux stone much deeper than they had and the proper way to finish the color was to wait till the concrete was dry, which is in stark contrast to the video on the Stonemakers corporate website. David told me that they used a new sealer and I would not have a problem going forward with peeling, and if I did he would come and tear out the work and redo. At this point I was so disgusted with the entire job that I agreed to wait over the winter. That was one of many mistakes I made dealing with Stonemakers. Once again the paint peeled over the winter of 2013/2014. I was assured by David when I contacted him yet again that he would replace the walk/porch, but it would have to wait until after July. In September I sent him a text message asking when he was planning on doing what he promised to do and was told it would be done in September. I send him another text on 10/31 and told him that I wanted a firm date for the work to be done, or a refund of what I paid him and additional monies to have the concrete torn out and the landscaping done that we had done to bring the area back to the way it was, even though he told us that he would take care of repairing the area disturbed by the work. I have yet to receive a response. I believe I have been more than patient and fair, however the degree of unresponsiveness of this company is absolutely incredible. I have never dealt with someone who treats their customers the way we were treated. I would advise anyone who is thinking of using them to run as fast and as far as possible from them.

Response from StoneMakers of Western PA
At this time, I am offering NO COUNTER OFFER. WE WERE CONTRACTED AS "LABOR ONLY" CONTRACTOR. ON NOVEMBER 21, 2013, I rec'd an email from Mr. [Member name removed] cancelling said contract & forbidding me from his property. I contacted the police to get an escort to recover my tools, however, this opportunity has not been afforded to me. The project was a "work in progress" and it was my intention to complete it as agreed. It was his choice to fire me, not mine. We did only receive payment for 60% of work rather than the 70% due.

Project began a bit rocky. There was a bit of difficulty in making a connection for an initial evaluation of the space and estimate There was also a bit of a delay between inspection an estimate In addition there was a delay in the date I was given as a start date and the actual start date Once the work began, they were very quick to get the area primed, framed and cement poured and the project completed There was a crack that appeared in the concrete about a month after completion; they were quick to come out, inspect and repair I have received multiple compliments on the sidewalk and patio and have referred them to others
