Description of Work: I dropped my mower off in April of 2017, THIS IS NOW JANUARY 2018! They still have my mower and it's not fixed. Every time I called they'd tell me they were trying to get a motor, and it should be another couple of weeks. This went on all spring and summer. Needless to say, by May I had to buy another mower. I want my mower fixed or they must pay me for a new one. I'm in my 60s, 5' tall, and my house is situated on a hill. I have to lug my mower up & down steps every time I mow, so having that second mower would eliminate that problem.

 + -1 moreIt went very badly. They had my lawn mower for a week and did not update me on the progress of my repair. Then when it was finally returned to me, it was in worse shape than it was when I gave it to them. It was not working at all. When I told the company about it, they insinuated that it was my fault somehow and refused to take responsibility. Very poor service, extremely unprofessional. Do not hire this company.

 + -1 moreThey were great, came when they said they would, did what they said they'd do and came back and took the tractor back when the drive belt fell off again and waived delivery fee! Definitely recommend!

 + -1 moreThey picked up the mower on Friday July 26. Tuesday evening, July 30, I called and asked about it and was told it generally was taking about a week before it could be looked at. I heard nothing from them until I emailed on Aug 8 and asked for a status. (I mentioned Angie's List.) They called to say they replaced the battery to fix one of the problems. The other problem I asked them to try and fix involved uneven cutting; the right side didn't cut as evenly as the left side. He said they would look into that. When completed, I was called and told that sometimes cleaning the deck helps and that they plugged one of my tires (I hadn't asked for this and didn't need it.) The tractor was cleaner than I got it, and it started up, but the right side is just as uneven as it was when they picked it up. They charged 1.5 hours labor at $75/hour! The way I look at it, I paid over $100 for someone to put in a battery. (The battery itself was about $50, which I don't know if its good or bad; and the pickup and delivery was $75.) Not sure, but I wouldn't be surprised if Sears would come to my house and do more for the same or less.

Description of Work: Nice people, but I seemed to be always calling them for an update (read on as there are two parts to this story!). Took my tractor in for repairs after the end of the 2012 season (November) and they had it for many weeks. I seem to be calling them every other day looking for an update, as I really didn't get good feedback on the status or a return date. I became a bit frustrated that I ended up stopping into the shop to get some real answers, but got the same message as I did on the phone..."still working on it, awaiting feedback and some parts. Once the tractor was returned, I stored it for the season. At the beginning of the new season, I noticed some "slipping" in the transmission. A bit frustrated given the wait and cost of the initial repair, I reluctantly called them back and advised on the problem. To my surprise, they came and picked up the tractor the next day and did a full review (which was what was asked for during the initial repair). Turned out to be a bad belt....easy and relatively inexpensive fix, but should it have been fixed the first time......perhaps, but I wasn't there so I cannot confirm this. The second time the tractor was in, I got calls within 24 hrs and super support and honest feedback. The tractor was fixed and returned to me within a few days...it's been running great ever since. .......This really is a story of two experiences over a few months.

 + -1 moreThey tried to get the mower to start while I was still there but were unable. After a few days they called and it was ready. I have used mower repair places before that would have my mower for months unless I called them to see if it was ready. Steel City is always quick and professional. I bought my last mower from them. They know their stuff and if something goes wrong they have all the warranty information and can take care of it for me.
