Great fast service. Made repairs others could not find the problems. This company had advantages by using hi end circuit tracers to fix my electrical problems. Highly recommend.

We remodeled our livingroom and needed to have television cable run from the basement up through the wall. Verizon told us they do not fish walls and that we needed to contact an electrician. Contacted Speedy Electric based on their ad in the Yellow Pages. The person taking our call was cold, curt and not terribly personable. Appointment was made for between noon and 3. At 3:15 the electrician called and it was clear he just didn't want to come. He was rude and downright ignorant to me. He asked me how much did I think this was going to cost because he was a real "electrician" and as such it was NOT going to be cheap! These are not professionals as real master craftsmen do not act this way.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing!

Please do not use this provider! They are dishonest and abusive! Last year, I purchased my childhood home in which my parents had resided for nearly 50 years. The kitchen light was not working after an impact with a ball thrown by my granddaughter. Also, the bathroom light fixture had stopped working. I telephoned the provider and asked about cost. The receptionist advised that a $65 trip fee would be applicable. I said that since they were my first call, I would call other electricians in the area to see about getting the trip fee waived if work were completed that day. She agreed to waive the trip fee to retain the business. She then advised that the company does not accept checks, only cash or credit cards, and the credit card holder needed to be present should a credit card be used. We made arrangements for the provider to be at the house the following Tuesday at 9am. I received a call from the provider stating that he would be at the house by 10am; an hour later than arranged. I told him that I was en route, but that my daughter, who resides at the house, would be there to show them what needed to be done. I was only going to provide the credit card for payment. I telephoned my daughter about 45 minutes later to ask how it was going. She advised that the provider hadn't even shown up. I called the young man back and was told that they 'wanted to give me time to get there.' We met at the house at 11am; two hours later than arranged. The electricians were both exceptionally young and very smarmy; talking too jovially about how much work was going to need to be done in the house because it was so old and out-dated. I advised that the house stood without incident for more than 50 years, but the young man said he felt he would need to get into the walls, rewire the attic, and perhaps change the fuse box. He suggested that the bathroom light switch was exposed and presented a danger to my toddler grandson living in the house. I was, of course, immediately concerned and asked them to work up a bid quickly so that they repairs could be done that day. The provider refused to even estimate the job until I provided my credit card and signed a credit card slip for the $65 trip fee, which they had agreed to waive if I had work performed that day. Suddenly it made sense as to why I needed to be at the house even though my daughter was there. When I said I wouldn't sign a charge slip that stated NO REFUNDS for a fee that they'd agreed to waive, the young man called his supervisor. The supervisor became abusive by phone asking me if I realized he had to pay his men for their time as well as gas to get to the job, then asked how he was supposed to 'trust' me if I didn't sign the slip. I said that I needed the work done that day. I asked why he was wasting time bickering over a $65 trip fee rather than estimating a seemingly costly job that his electricians claimed I needed to have done. At that, he asked to speak to his electricians and instructed the team to leave immediately without even estimating the job. Another electrician whom I called to do the work finished the job with a few screws and a wire cover within 2 hours of arrival WITHOUT CHARGING A TRIP FEE. Please do not use this provider. They lack integrity and professionalism. They are clearly too concerned with their trip fee in hand.
Description of Work: The provider came to my home, insisted that the wiring in our home was so out-dated that the environment was dangerous for our toddler, then proceeded to refuse to even estimate the job until I signed a credit card slip for the $65 trip fee, which they had agreed to waive if I had work performed that day. When I said I wouldn't sign a charge slip for a fee that they'd agreed to waive, their supervisor became abusive by phone and instructed the team to leave immediately without even estimating the job.

We hired Speedy to come out and replace a main breaker. I called them at noon and they were not very flexible. My girlfriend set up an appointment after that. They said they would be there at 4 and didn't show up until 6. I was hoping they could send me a bill of the service, but they needed myself or my girlfriend to sign off. They quoted us for $2000.00 for a $30 part. They said they wanted $95 for the visit after I was quoted at $65 on the phone. I said I would do it myself. The electrician then quoted for $1300.00. I again declined and said I would do this myself. He then comes back and says "how about $750.00 cash?" and this was to my girlfriend after myself and Speedy were off the phone. My girlfriend accepted the quote. The main breaker was used or not out of the box. Then, the furnace and garage door didn't work. The electrician just left the house with these issues. He left without providing a receipt for confirmation of purchase. I would not recommend this company to anyone due to the unprofessionalism they provided. I believe they were just trying to rip my girlfriend off because they didn't believe she knew any better.

Called and scheduled service prior to checking out Angie's List - mistake. Very quick response and good initial experience on the phone. I later received a call back from another electrician who could come out sooner so I canned to cancel with Speedy. Very brusque this time. He wanted to know wo I was using and to discuss who would be cheaper - how could he tell without looking at the problem? I let him know that I wasn't comfortable telling him who was here and also said that he should check out his rating on Angie's List. I said this for his benefit, not in a negative tone. He became very angry and started arguing about his credentials. He called Angie's List "bullsh**." Regardless of the accuracy of the reports here - and they may well misrepresent his company since there are only 3 - you don't behave that way to a prospective customer, especially getting angry and swearing. I told him that I was sorry that it didn't work out and hung up while he was still yelling. I have to say that I was a little scared by it all since he has my contact information. No one should feel that way after cancelling a service call.

Response from SPEEDY ELECTRIC HEATING & COOLING LLC
Customer called us out and canceled when we arrived (on a weekend to boot). We explained to her that if your going to cancel over saving $5.00, that is fine, but don't wait until we drive all the way to your home to tell us. It costs companies money and valuable time to dispatch a technician and we have the right to read her the riot act. Try that in a restaurant, order food then cancel the steak when they bring it to the table. Your bound to hear it from the cook. Customer actions warranted the lecture. Her actions were not justified. Cancellations are cheerfully offered within ten minutes of the initial telephone call when ordering service, not when were on your street or at your door. We deliver prompt 24 hr service. We take our service seriously. We seek reputable customers that keep their appointments are loyal, and don't throw us under the bus to save five dollars. On must understand, when a customer calls for service, especially on a weekend and after hours, a service company must summons a technician from his family and personal life. Once we pull that person from their personal time or with their family, it is important that he or she is used efficiently. When our time is wasted it causes unnecessary costs to the company and the employee feels extremely upset because he is not needed now. Very similar to if you called out a volunteer fire fighter and their is no fire after he stops what he is doing in his personal life, puts all his gear on, runs to the fire department, warms up his fire truck, gets his hoses, tells his wife where he is going in case he doesn't come back, clocks in, record the address, punch it in the gps, race to the fire, and boom. No fire. This is how a service contractor feels when a customer cancels without notice or timely.

He called them at 10am and they said they would be here between 12-2pm. They finally showed up at 7:30pm. They spent an hour and forty minutes trying to figure out the problem. They came out and said they couldn't figure out the problem and I needed a dedicated line for the bathroom, costing minimum of $1800. The other contractor I had out told me not to do it, he thought he knew what it was and ended up fixing a loose outlet, which fixed the problem. The invoice I received from them is not itemized and doesn't explain what the charges are for. There is a $540 charge that has no description, which they said was for them walking around looking for the problem. I feel that because I am in a wheelchair, this company saw me as an easy target and took advantage of me.
Description of Work: The lights had gone out in my bathroom so the contractor I had there called them this company out to check on it.

Terrible, terrible, terrible. Bait and switch specialists. They want $65 upfront and the technician is clueless. Couldn't trouble-shoot his way out of a phone booth. After getting the $65 (credit card), then wanted $700 more to diagnose the problem. Totally useless. Eventually got the job done with Peters Electrical for $80. Follow-up report. Called office to make formal complaint in hopes of getting a refund. Receptionist told me to make complaint in writing and that "owner takes all complaints very seriously." Still waiting for response from the owner. Caveat emptor!!!!

My boss had a high-pitched sound coming from an electrical outlet. A rep from Speedy electric came out promptly, then told my boss he had to pay a $95 upfront fee for their "trip charge" before he would even look at the outlet and give him a price. Against his better judgment he paid the fee. Speedy then diagnosed it as a minor problem and quoted $235 to replace the outlet! My boss lives in Fox Chapel and figured the guy was trying to rip him off, so he told him to take hike. Another electrician come out and fixed the outlet for about a quarter of the price. He was thoroughly unimpressed and will never call this company again.

I have never used an electrician before, so did not know expense-wise what was normal--just that they are known to be pricey. Both phone rep and technician very vocal about 'up front' amount of house call and work to be performed--I was stunned at prices quoted, but having no prior knowledge and needing the job done I went ahead. It was quickly determined the problem was an open neutral wire, but tracking it down was exhausting and tedious--ended up being an outlet I had pointed out at beginning as being the point where bad circuit was first noted. I had planned on having the electrician install 4 gfci outlets in the same trip, but was quoted a price of $350/outlet to install, so dropped that plan quickly. When the disconnected neutral wire outlet was found the tech decided it was a more involved install and upped the price to finish--put in a standard screw outlet in less than 5 minutes, which cost me $700 some dollars for that alone. Overall, a horrifying financial experience and one that left me feeling totally 'taken' and mistrusting of the entire profession. The main reason I joined Angie's list was the prevent any more experiences like this one. Wish I had known about it earlier. I looked at BB site and see this company has an 'F' rating with them too. Isn't hindsight wonderful--I feel very foolish, and will not rush into getting something repaired again, no matter how desperate to have it done.

Terrible. I made the appointment on Friday, June 6, for Monday, June 9. They said that they would come over between 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, and would call first. I was home waiting for the full time. At 3:20 pm, not having heard anything yet, I called to see what was happening, and was told that I was on the list, but that they were very busy, and I should be patient. At 4:40 pm I called again to ask when I should assume that they would not be coming over. The phone receptionist went to check on this and then told me that my appointment had been canceled because they wanted to concentrate on folks with A/C problems. (Apparently, people who have A/C suffer more from the heat than I do.) "Someone" was supposed to have called me in the morning to let me know. But no one did, there was no message on my machine. When I expressed my outrage about this, I was brushed off and told to reschedule. I have to wonder: if these people can't keep their appointments straight, how can they keep their wiring straight?
Description of Work: I made an appointment for them to install some ceiling fans.
