Description of Work: We needed to replace a walkway/steps and were frustrated by contractors who said they would get back to us, but never did. After seeing a nearby driveway that he built, we phoned Harry and were happy we did. He came when he said he would, phoned when he said he would and explained both our options and the process as worked progressed. The price was what we thought it would be. His experienced crew is great…pleasant, professional & hard working. Simply said, Harry and his crew are the best!

Description of Work: The contractor explained that he was pressured by Angie's List to offer the deal but that it was not in his best interest financially to perform the work. My biggest complaint was the fact that he agreed to the deal in the first place. Why offer something, regardless of whether or not you felt pressured to offer it, if you knew you would not be able to do the work. Once you realized you were not going to be able to do it, you should have notified Angie's List to return the customer's monies within the 30 day time frame. Not good business practice.

Description of Work: I finally got a price quote from Spadafora Custom Concrete after several months of asking for a price quote. I sent pictures of the job and he never came to my residence to see it in person. I continued to call and ask for a quote. When he finally gave me a quote, it was outrageous! I guess he is just too busy to do small job which is the message that sends to me when the price is about 5 times higher. Now it is too late to get another quote from another contractor to do the repair work this year due to the weather. This has caused me a big delay this entire year and I never was able to get the work scheduled. Spadafora said that he was just too busy and strung me along for months.

It is unfortunate that I am posting this poor review, as I had high hopes for this contractor. We had a patio poured in June of 2013 and the trouble started soon after. In September of 2013 the surface started popping off in random areas. After NUMEROUS texts and calls to Harry, he finally came out to look at the problem. He initially blamed it on lignite, a filler they use in concrete and said the company he uses for the concrete must be the problem. So we then had a visit from the concrete supplier who tested the strength of the concrete. No surprise they did not find any issues, and stated it is not a problem with their concrete. This was relayed to Harry who still was reluctant to address the issue. He suggested to let it go through winter and see what condition it is in, so we agreed. Once the weather turned warm I started calling and texting to try and get Harry to come out and inspect the patio again. Only after threatening a lawsuit did he finally send a guy to "repair" the existing holes. The worker spent the day filling in these areas with a color/concrete mix, and the patio was sealed again some time later. The repairs weren't great looking, but it was better. Even after the repairs were made the patio surface continued to pop off. I let Harry know this was continuing to happen, and once again we agreed to let it go through winter. Now we are 2+ years later and the problem continues. I have contacted Harry numerous times again this summer to try and get him to assess the issue further and I am always met with the same response: "I am too busy" and "I already addressed the issue". This morning I was told that we must have been happy with the work or we would not have paid him. I guess next time I will wait a few months before paying a contractor what is owed to make sure their work holds up.... I totally understand that the early part of this summer has been very bad for the concrete business due to the wet weather and there is a lot of catching up to do for these companies, however if you are any kind of good business you make time to at least look at YOUR work for paying customers and see what can be done to make them happy.

Harry Spadafora comes personally to every job, and on that first day he and his crew removed the furniture from the porch, (including my wicker swing) and tore out the front steps and the slates on the porch. There is a small porch (5x8) level with the front entrance, and four steps going down to the larger patio/porch( 11x30). He leveled the area after removing the slates, laid out and framed the sidewalks, and then left a man here to frame the new steps. The evening prior to the scheduled pouring of the cement, I noticed the frame for the new steps was larger (and nicer) than those they tore out. They would've been much nicer than the originals, but, unfortunately, it looked like my swing would bump into them every time it moved! The swing was not there, and the framer didn't consider it when he was working. The swing can't be moved the other way due to a large chimney on the other side, and I certainly l wasn't about to give up that swing! I texted Harry (it was fairly late in the evening) and he called me immediately. He cancelled the pour, came out first thing in the morning, and had a worker stay and reframe the steps.....no problem at all. He apologized for the mistake and took care of it right a way. This was a bigger job than it may sound. My small porch was resurfaved and finished to match the new steps. My large porch/patio was totally redone and the finish makes it look alot like stone! The sidewalk parallels the driveway and I may occassionally want to park on the patio in winter, so it's all 5-6" thick, so as to be drivable! He then added a cement apron to the edge of the porch for smooth turning in off the driveway. I cannot say enough good things about Harry and his crew. They are experienced, know their business, but best of all, Harry is a perfectionest! I am pretty picky, some call it OCD, but every concern I had was quickly addressed by him and done to my great satisfaction. Not only do I highly recommend him, I've already booked him to redo my driveway and add a turnaround behind the house!
Description of Work: Mr. Spadafora took out the broken slates in my ground level front porch and replaced them with a beautiful cement floor; the floor was then stamped with a dark gray color to finish it. It looks amazing! He also tore out the cracked steps going down to the porch and replaced them with new steps, and even took the time to save my original wrought iron railings, saving me the expense of replacing them. Harry designed sidewalks on either side of the porch and connected them to stairs going to the garage on one side and to the side deck on the other. These were finished to match the porch and look wonderful!

My wife and I decided to install a new, in-ground swimming pool this spring. We wanted a colored, stamped concrete patio around the pool rather than plain regular or aggregate concrete. We have friends who hired Spadafora Custom Concrete to install a patio a few years ago. After seeing the work first-hand and after researching their website and Facebook page, we gave them a call. I received a return call from Harry Spadafora (owner) and we discussed the project. He came to our house a few days later, looked at the job, listened to our ideas, made recommendations, discussed his approach, and showed us pictures of previous work. He called us the next day with a price estimate and offered to meet us at another job he was working on so that we could see his work. We hired Harry and kept in touch with him while the pool was being installed. He helped us keep the pool installation on schedule by coordinating with the pool contractor and pouring concrete coping around the perimeter mid-way through the pool construction. Our project included an outdoor fireplace and patio that was constructed in an area that contained fill dirt from the pool excavation. Harry helped us design that part of the project in a way that ensures stability over the long term. This included construction of block foundation walls on top of a concrete footer. The concrete patio was poured over a web of rebar that was connected to the block walls. It was pretty neat watching them install the block walls and forms for the concrete. Their attention to detail was amazing - the forming, stamping, and finishing are literally flawless. The decorative cuts and expansion joints are laser straight and I have no idea how they got wood to bend like they did to create the smooth curves and turns. Harry and his crew were extremely friendly, hard-working, and professional. Harry and his right-hand man Jim were regularly onsite during the project. Harry routinely gave us updates on what to expect during all phases of the job and provided updates on the timeline (when it rained, etc). He was a constant source of advice and recommendations, which we very much appreciated since this was the first time we ever purchased concrete work. Harry's pricing was very fair and the end result looks better than we anticipated. Harry and his crew take great pride in their work and made sure we were completely satisfied. Harry even helped by referring a masonry contractor when we were having a hard time finding one (he also called to help us get on their busy schedule). I will definitely use Spadafora Custom Concrete in the future and give them my absolute highest recommendation for anyone seeking concrete work.
Description of Work: Spadafora Custom Concrete installed colored, stamped concrete patio areas and coping around a new in-ground swimming pool. They also built walls and pillars out of foundation block and poured concrete steps, wall caps, and a patio around a new outdoor fireplace.
It was amazing. I was worried by the scope of the project and the fact that I work all day and wouldn't be home in case of questions or problems, but the work Harry and his crew did exceeded my expectations by a million percent! They suggested changes and things that I could never have thought of. In the midst of the project, they were at my house some days from 6:30 am to 8:00 pm. I appreciate their dedication and willingness to work those long days to get everything done. They restored my yard from the inevitable damage that is done during something so big and I have such a huge smile on my face every day when I drive up to my house or look out my windows!
Description of Work: Large, six car driveway, poured steps, reworked sidewalk, landing and front porch, two sets of steps at rental houses and a new patio.

You can read all of the particulars about my experience, but if you don?t want to take the time, know this about Spadafora Concrete: You will deal with the owner, Harry directly who knows the concrete business They will deliver what they promise ? on time and on budget You will have a professional job completed You will be happy you used them After weighing the pros and cons of laying pavers myself, I contacted a couple different contractors to get estimates on stamped concrete. When I contacted Spadafora Concrete, the owner Harry answered the phone and we set an appointment for an estimate the next day. When I saw Harry looking at my proposed project, I could tell he had the knowledge and expertise of someone who has been in the business for a long time. He was very accommodating and gave me several options and explained each one in detail. . We agreed on a price for the project and when he left, I knew that I had the person for the job. I called Harry the next day and told him I wanted to proceed. He immediately lined up a date to complete the prep work and the form work which was completed very quickly and on time. He then set the date to actually pour and stamp the concrete and even though we had to postpone because of rain, he did it the very next day. He and his crew showed up at daylight and started working immediately. Harry was not only on site, but he was the driving force and was in the middle of every step of the process. He had an excellent crew and everyone worked as a team and although it was a huge patio, they completed it by early afternoon. The completed job is awesome! I told Harry that I felt I had been on the TV show, ?Yard Crashers? it looked so good. I was so glad I didn't go with the pavers. I would have been breaking my back all summer to accomplish what Harry and his crew did in a couple of days. The good part wasthe cost was almost identical.
Description of Work: Spadafora Concrete built a beautiful stamped concrete patio under my deck and around my pond. They put in several soft curves where I wanted and suggested a way to allow me to keep a live tree that my wife loves in my patio.
I do some home renovation work and need to use subcontractors for things I cannot do myself. Usually, I need to approach any contractor in their off-season (at least then I can speak to them at some length), hope that they remember to put me on their schedule and remember the particulars of the job; then baby-sit them when they show up to see that all is done correctly. I met Harry Spadafora at the Pittsburgh Home Show several years ago & was impressed by his no-nonsense, hands-on knowledge of concrete work and I kept his business card. I phoned him during the winter to ask him to look at replacing some concrete steps and a walkway. I was surprised that Harry answered the call himself, and made arrangements to meet me in a few days. He arrived before me for our appointment. Mr, Spadafore was most accommodating- agreeing with yet improving on my ideas and quoting a very fair price. Although concrete pouring season was about 2 months away he promised to get at my job as earlly as weather would allow. To my amazement, he would call weekly with hopeful forecasts of when he may be able to start. When he did start, he was a week ahead of schedule and finished a day or so before we thought he would. Harry was always on site to not only supervise but doing expert finishing work. Here's a contractor that not only knows the business but works in the trenches with the guys. What's more, everybody in the crew seems as meticulous as Harry in trying to achieve the perfect end result. In this case that perfect result was achieved. Additionally, there was no mess or debris for me to clean up. My work schedule was hectic at the time so I couldn't always be on site during the process, and for me that's taking a big chance. Harry Spadafora & Co. showed me that I never needed to look over their shoulders-they were knowledgeable, trustworthy, honest and above all consummate professionals that needed no baby-siting. Not only would I use Mr. Spadafora again, I have him booked to look at two more jobs.
Description of Work: Removed old concrete steps leading to the front door and built new steps -paying close attention to building codes- that were wider and safer. Also, Mr. Spadafora excavated out an old irregular concrete step-stone walkway & replaced it with a new 30' concrete walkway with no steps and perfectly ramping to attach to our concrete patio. He also repaired some cracking in the patio surface.

Spadafora Custom Concrete meet and exceeded all aspects of our contract. Mr. Spadafora was prompt with presenting a bid and in explaining in detail all aspects of the contract. Spadafora Custom Concrete fulfilled the time schedule from contract signing to final inspection of completed work even though weather forced them to delay a few days of work. I was impressed with the efficiency with which the crew performed and manner they kept the various work sites. What really impressed me was the respectfulness of Harry & his crew of our faith based institution. We plan on using Spadafora Custom Concrete for 2015 campus projects.
Description of Work: Spadafora Custom Concrete: *Removed sections of deteriorating sidewalk from our heavily traveled campus sidewalk, built forms and poured new concrete to match existing sidewalk. *Demolished main concrete entrance steps to our Chapel, built forms, poured and finished concrete. *Removed main sidewalk and steps from residential rental property, formed & poured concrete. *After concrete cured for a specified period of time, all newly finished concrete was pressure washed and sealed with water proof material.

He started on the day he said he would, remover the trash every day so my home would not look like crap. All his workers were very nice and worked hard (not busy on cell phones). On the bad weather days he would keep me posted on when he would come back and explained everything in detail along the way. The old was taken out in a timely manor, he used all new lumber for the forms. The driveway he made 6in and all other areas were at least 4 in. He made 2 pours and what a beautiful thing to watch, just how they finished it. After it dried he came back when he said he would, removed the forms, cleaned up and said he would return to seal all the concrete. He gave me a few way to do the job but always gave his recommendations about not taking shortcuts. Well I am one who likes to save money but I had a gut feeling this guy was not hoodwinking me and I am so glad I listen to him about not using salt and using the best sealers because this past winter might have messed it up. I am glad I followed his advice on not using salt. I just got a rental property and it needs steps, sidewalks, and a huge driveway and this man will get the job. Oh I am also going to have him do a concrete countertop in my new kitchen. I am going to use him at 435 Lark Tree Circle Bridgeville. I would recommend Harry Spadafora to anyone.

It went very well. Our front porch had sunk 5.5 inches due to fill settle. Harry Spadafora and his crew removed the existing cement and hauled everything away. We had decided that we wanted our front porch enlarged and the walkway to the house re-routed and changed. The crew took our idea and made it beautiful. They rebuilt the side wall that is the base of our side walkway to our side porch. They worked hard and the cement work is just spectacular. Our neighbors can't tell us enough how wonderful it looks. We will use Harry and his crew for all of our cement work. A job well done!!! :)

When meeting with this contractor to plan our patio, sidewalk and steps (a $14,000+ job), he was emphatic about being able to do the job we wanted, including the specific coble stone pattern for the stamped concrete, and he verbally agreed to the specifications that we wanted. He promised to write up the details of the job for us but then showed up at the planned time to start the project without the contract, promising that we would get it later. When it came time to pour the job he advised us that the coble stone pattern that we wanted would not work and that we would have to pick another pattern – not bad, but not our first choice or expectation based on his promises. During the site preparation gave permission for him to drive his truck over a section of lawn to gain access to the rear of the site. He drove the truck too close to a slope and his truck slid carving gouges in the lawn. He left this unrepaired at the end of the job telling me that “I’m not a landscaper.” The finished job appeared well done. When specifically asked about care of the concrete, he advised us to not use salt or any other ice melting product on the concrete for the first year and then use Calcium Chloride after that. The contract that he gave us instructed not to use salt the first year: ”Do not use salt on any concrete surface for at least one full winter season after the concrete is placed.” We followed these instructions to the letter, using the Calcium Chloride starting in the second year (last year), and only on our front steps. By spring (April 2014) there were several areas where the surface was deteriorating on the front steps. I immediately advised him of this and he initially agreed to “take care of it” and advised that he would have to look at the damage to decide what to do. He kept delaying this because he “was busy” and later stated that he was not responsible for this (even though his instructions were followed). After 4 months and no action I emailed again and he agreed to come out within two weeks. As of 2 months later he still has not responded nor come to assess the damage. The surfaces on the front steps continue to erode.

Worked with the owner of the company throughout the entire process. He was very helpful and tried very hard to bring the price down as low as possible. The work was done well and turned out great. I would say the final product has only a few minor imperfections in it but for the price we paid it was an incredible deal. His price was $2500 less than anyone else and the thickness of the concrete and materials used were better than the other more expensive companies were going to use.
Description of Work: Poured new stamped and dyed concrete patio.

WHEN THEY DUG UP THE WALKWAY, THEY ALSO DUG UP PART OF THE DRIVEWAY. WHEN THEY PATCHED THE DRIVEWAY, THEY DID A POOR JOB. THE WORK THEY DID HAS SINCE CRACKED. THEY DO NOT RETURN MY PHONE CALLS. WHEN THEY DID THE STAMPING ON THE STOOP, THEY MISSED PART OF IT. IT LOOKED UNFINISHED. I ASKED THEM ABOUT IT AND THEY HAD NO ANSWER. THEY STAINED IT AND CAME BACK ABOUT 3 TIMES DURING THE STAINING PROCESS BECAUSE THE COLOR WAS NOT RIGHT. THE STEP THAT WAS MISSED IS WHAT CRACKED.
Description of Work: THEY INSTALLED A STAMPED CONCRETE WALKWAY AND A LARGE STOOP. THEY ALSO DUG ABOUT 4 OR 5 FEET DOWN AROUND A HALF MOON STOOP AND WATERPROOFED IT.
