He is excellent in all regards, they were terrific. I'd give them 'A' in everything they did, they were an excellent contractor. I think they seem very honest. They are good quality craftsmen. They did high quality stonework and high quality concrete work. I had gotten about 6 prices and they were less than anyone else but they gave me more for my money. They delivered everything that they sold.
Description of Work: Sobers construction did my driveway and walls about 10-15 years ago when they first started business. They built a stone wall for me and across the driveway and the large front steps coming up to my house. They did a lot of concrete work for me. It was a large hand cut stone wall and a driveway that was 20 feet by 50. And then a large sweeping walkway with steps going into the house.

It took about a month and half for them to start on the project after we hired them. The project took about 3 weeks, although they said it would take about a week. Rain caused some delays, but there were a few nice days when they didn't work due to other projects. Jim Sobers, the owner, even stopped by on a Sunday when he knew we would be home to review a couple of drainage items with us. Plus, the driveway's first winter was the worst we've had in 15 years and the concrete held up beautifully. All in all, the project went very smoothly and we were very happy with their service and the end product. We get a lot of compliments on our new driveway.
Description of Work: Sobers removed our old crumbling black-top driveway, leveled a hump in the front of the driveway, and poured a new concrete driveway. They also widened the driveway where possible.

We didn't get any work because he couldn't show up to give an estimate. Additionally, the only time he could offer an estimate was a saturday, no weekdays available for a whole month trying to get him to our home.
Description of Work: I had no work performed. He was to give us an estimate. He made 3 appointments and was a no show all 3 times. The first two times we got a call from his assistant 10 minutes prior to him arriving. The first was "he has a funeral to go to" and the next was "he had family in from out of town." We canceled weekend plans to be there each Saturday. The third time he just didn't show and there was no call so we gave up on this guy.

They did an excellent job in terms of quality. The final product looks great. We've received numerous compliments from various neighbors. The bid was reasonable compared to the amount of work done and the other bids we received for the job. On the downside, we had difficulty communicating with them at times. There was confusion over how the steps would be poured and whether we would use stone or concrete for the steps. Eventually, the confusion was cleared up, but it probably could have been avoided with more direct communication b/t Sobers and us. We also weren't sure what they were doing when. It was a surprise to come home after work to see what or what not had been done. They also ran about a month behind schedule. Given that this outdoor work and extremely sensitive to weather conditions, much of the lateness is beyond his control. Finally, some of the workers were not the most courteous. They left pop bottles and whatever else they were eating behind for us to clean up when we got home. In the overall scheme of things though, these inconveniences and drawbacks pale in comparison to the beautiful job they did that will last for decades to come.
Description of Work: Sobers Construction dug into our hillside and poured concrete steps in an L-Shape up to our front door. They then re-built our retaining wall using as much of the existing stone as they could, chipping it, and molding it along the way to make it much more attractive. They dug out a good foot of the earth behind the retaining wall and back-filled it with gravel. So, the retaining wall should not be moving at all anytime soon. They then poured a new concrete driveway for us. Then they tore out the existing flagstone steps that used to go straight up our property to our front door and back-filled the area with dirt. Finally, they came back in 3 weeks and sealed the concrete.
