SSA has earned a one star review in 2022 because our current experience is that SSA is not the same company as previous times. We have been loyal long time customers, through SSA's disorganization and recent changes. However, now none of that matters to them. There are many other security system company options available, without the three year or FIVE year contract that SSA demands. Before hiring SSA, we recommend looking into other options and avoiding the stress and waste of time that we have encountered with SSA.

We purchased the service at the time of purchasing our home because the previous owner had SSA. We were a 3 + year customer that paid regularly every 6 months. Upon speaking with the only Rep able to handle cancellations, we were told that the service was "automatically" renewed & no exceptions. A contract is a contract but good companies make exceptions for good customers. I suppose it's more important to make a few months extra $$$ & receive a poor review rather than just accepting that we no longer need their service & coming to get their equipment & receiving a positive review? I'm thinking many more perspective customers would consider doing business with a company that makes exceptions & treats their customers right? So, if you're considering using Security Systems of America be aware that they will charge you to the letter of the term - regardless if you request termination or not. Legal, yes - Good business? You decide. There are many other companies that apparently have a good enough service & reputation that do do not need to be so uncooperative. Choose wisely.

I pay quarterly, about $70 a quarter. I will not use them again, because everytime you get sometihing done they tack on another contract. If you call for a new sensor or something, then they tack another 2 years onto your contract. They coud change their policy. I have been with them forever, because I have don't have any choice!

It was fine. They were professional, they arrived on time and did it within the time that they said they would. They had to come back and redo one window but it was fine as they promptly responded so I've had no issues with them. They came out on October 22nd or 23rd and I spent extra for a keypad that I wanted.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal coupon from Security Systems of America to do a home security system installation for me.

Couldn't be happier with the work that SSA did in setting up a home security system at my new house. I'd gotten quotes from two other national companies, however the monthly subscription quote that I got from SSA beat those guys by almost $10 a month for the exact same system. The thing I liked most about SSA is that they have a local office here in Pittsburgh. The other companies I spoke with would have shipped me the equipment and it would have been up to me to install this myself. While this isn't a very complicated installation, it definitely makes sense to have a professional do it. SSA was able to get out and do this installation within 3 business days. The tech showed me how to work the system and he was on his way. It was a very smooth process and my wife and I absolutely love the system. Being able to work this system using our iPhones is a huge plus. It's very user friendly and gives us the peace of mine we were looking for. Another bonus that I recently found out about is that SSA also has a pretty impressive referral program, where I can get some serious money knocked off of my monthly subscription for referring a friend.

They were wonderful, timely and they did a wonderful job. I really like the alarm system. I like the quality and the prices that I got for installation, I thought that it was a good deal. It is a touch screen and I am really pleased with them. I would recommend them to someone else. I waited less than a week.

Excellent every step of the way. We actually purchased a Guardian system and cancelled it to go with SSA. They are local and care about their customers. We've had two circumstances when our alarm went off and emergency staff came promptly and we received a call from an SSA rep. No complaints, even after 2 years.
Description of Work: Salesman arrived for a visit and told exactly what was offered in each package. When we chose our package it was installed the next week only because we were unavailable during the daytime.

They came out to the house and provided an estimate for an alarm. They were courteous and followed up afterward because I told them I was also looking at other companies. I decided to go with another company but would still consider them in the future.

Can't say I am that impressed. It is has not been a smooth activation. After the initial first visit by the technician who came to inspect the existing system to check the functionality, the key pad didn't work (which the technician couldn't figure out) the alarm tripped and the siren never activated (had to call twice for them to come out and fix it). To boot, I wanted to change the passcode and the technician sent me the instructions to do it because they didn't know how. I am regretting signing the contract now, if I had to do it again I would have looked at other companies. It was good they didn't try to up sell, but it has been one problem after another since.
Description of Work: I pay 34.95 a month for "fastlink telguard." I went to SSA because the home I moved into already had a system installed. It was an older system, but I was told it was "one of the best" and "top of the line." I choose to keep the existing service and not upgrade to a wireless system based on this feedback.

SSA provided professional and friendly service. The sales representative was honest about what we needed and didn't try to upsell us to a more expensive system than we needed for our particular circumstances. The service technician was pleasant and informative. We have been very pleased with the product since its installation. I would highly recommend SSA to anyone who is looking for a home security system.

SSA was the first company I called. They were knowledgeable and able to make the changes we requested. They were up front about the cost and no "hidden costs" came up last minute. I called other companies for comparison to cost. While their costs may have been similar-the customer service could not compare to SSA. They gave me the facts of what they could do and left me to make my decision. No pressure and I liked that. I would recommend them to anyone looking for a system or as an update to a current system. We have also had our first "false alarm" and the company rep was kind and courteous when we called in.

They are reliable and I have not had any issues. They have never increased the pricing on me. When I hired them to install a system in my mother’s house they did a great job. The same person, Dave, has been helping us for the entire time I have used them.

They came when they said they were going to come, that is a big deal, because lot of times we get contractors that don’t show up when we try to coordinate with them. They gave us an estimate and it was a fair estimate. We did a lot of research and they were on the lower end in pricing. They installed it when they said they were going to and we have no issues with the alarms.

When it comes to rental properties they are very knowledgeable about the different codes in the area. They are very very very good.
Description of Work: They installed a standard home and fire security system in home. They also installed fire and alarm system in my rental and designed it so it went along with the codes in that area.

They have been responsive. If I accidently set off the alarm, I get a call quite quickly, which I appreciate. Their prices are reasonable. They did a very good job of installing the system. They had some problems, but they kept coming back until they got it right. I have been with them for a very long time. They were punctual.

They offer medical, fire, and burglar alert. The police are only 2 blocks away. I have a medical condition and rely upon them for medical alert. They offer good service at a good price. I have had to tell the delivery people to go where it want trigger the alarm. It is 24/7 security. They really respond, the service is good, and I will recommend them.

Company was called to submit an estimate for installation of a "wireless" security system. Salesman, when he arrived at our home was too familiar and commented several times on how "well I had done for myself"...I did not know this person. He informed me that even if we wanted a wireless system we still needed a land line. I asked about whether Comcast would work with his system and he stated I needed to ask Comcast. I did when ordering a land line I didn't want and they stated that they worked with all security systems. Salesman also stated that his techs like Verizon. I told him we were using Comcast. Tech came out on 12/7/2011 to install system. I was not informed that system would take 6 - 8 hours to install. Tech stated he can usually do it quicker but since we were using Comcast it took longer. He also made inappropriate remarks about my looks. Non-professional behavior by both salesman and tech. They would not have talked to my husband this way. Tech did not leave sign for yard and left a horrible mess of spliced wires coming from my Comcast Modem. I called the company on Friday, 12/9/2011 to complain about the sign and the wires. Also told the person (Jeff) about wanting a wireless system but why did I need a land line?? Jeff was not happy about the loss of a wireless install and wanted to re-install a totally wireless system for the same price. I declined as I am not comfortable getting something for nothing. I told him just to fix the wires and install my sign. I also ask him not to send Mark the tech who installed and he told me that Mark was fired. Yikes!!! Information, me, as a customer didn't need to know. A new appointment was set up for Thursday, 12/15/2011. It was scheduled for 830. 930 rolls around and no tech. Got a call from the office saying an unscheduled meeting was called and that the tech "was on his way". 1030 rolls around and I get a call from the tech saying he was getting his car inspected and it was taking longer than he had expected and he should have took a company vehicle. I attempted to call back the company to cancel the appointment but the phones were out of order. I called the number for reporting false alarms and it was out of order. I called the tech back on his cell phone and he totally blew me off when I told him that the phones were out of order. In other words he treated me like I was a child and didn't know what I was talking about. I cancelled the appointment for a later date. I had already wasted more than two hours waiting for them to fix something they should not have needed to fix. I got home and cancelled the service. Talked with the President and explained what was going on and he stated that he just was informed about the phones being out and I told him that if his tech had listened to what I had to say about the phones he would have know about it a lot sooner. I just wanted this company out of my life and their equipment out of my new home. I found out from the tech that took out the equipment that the tech that was the problem had a drinking problem and that is why they fired him. Why did this company think this was ok to send this jerk into my home? Or into anyone's home???
