Very polite, on time, answered all my questions. Service was done in the summer, not sure why my ap won't let me edit the date. Cost was just over $300 for first call, approx $200 for 2nd. I don't know whether this was "fair" or not but I needed my electricity restored and got it done right away.
Description of Work: Lost electricity on part of 2nd floor, got quick response from Sargent (next day). Electrician (Mark) spent about 3 hours to find & fix problem. 2 days later neighborhood had a power outage & same outlets/lights were not working later that evening when power returned. It was the weekend & I didn't feel the need to pay the overtime prices, but called first thing on Monday & they were able to send the same person again. he found a different problem on the same circuit & was able to quickly repair.

Called Sargent on Monday, spoke with Jenna and had an appointment for Tuesday morning. Jenna was efficient and very nice. Mark arrived on time on Tuesday and after reviewing the situation provided a quote. This is for a small remodeling project and Mark provided great insight on the best options. I agreed to the price and work began. I had to leave for work and my wife was home. I got a call from Mark who discovered an electrical problem unrelated to the initial scope of work, but serious in nature. He explained situation and said he would address the issue. When I returned home all the work was completed as agreed upon and the unexpected issue addressed. Above and beyond Mark moved a mantle with exposed nails to the basement and left no mess, which I really appreciate to keep my toddler safe. Mark also left a piece of charred wire from the unexpected repair to show me. Sargent provided premium service at a reasonable price. Mark was professional, courteous and exceeded my expectations.

It went perfectly! We worked with Elvis years ago, and we were thrilled to hear that he is still working at Sargent. He does excellent work--he's efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. He arrived at our house right when he said he would, listened to our long list of jobs, made suggestions, priced the jobs out, and started the work immediately. We couldn't ask for more.

Description of Work: Sargent Electric Services upgraded the electrical system in my house and they upgraded my electrical board. They put a mast up on my roof to make me in compliance with the county code. They did a complete house assessment of all the plugs and outlets and replaced several plugs and outlets. Initial receptionist who answered the phone transferred me to someone else once I explained what I was calling to get an estimate for (checking outlets for proper grounding). That person discussed job and estimate and said person who schedules was gone for the day (it was between 4-5 PM) and someone would call me back the next day. Never got a call back.

Our major problem was that they charged this amount of money. They were not upfront with the fees that they charge. Once they tried to charge us, they told us that it was $65 per half hour for assessing what needs to be done.
Description of Work: We had them come out and give us an estimate on electrical work. When we first called them they said that they would charge $25 for service call. They replaced a light bulb and checked the electrical circuits to make sure everything was ok and then told us what needs to be done. The ended up charging $260 and then told us it would be another $450 to do the other electrical work.

For this visit, they did NOT provide a free estimate. There was a charge of $25 for the salesperson to make the visit to generate the estimate. They were upfront about this charge when scheduling the visit. After spending about 30 minutes discussing my requirements, the salesperson generated an estimate in about 15 minutes. The cost was on the order of approximately $17K to perform the re-wiring and the new receptacles described above, plus more than $4K for the service update. This seemed high, but since it was my 1st of many estimates for this project, I was not sure if it was unreasonable or not. What made no sense to me was that there was a $500 price difference in the cost of the 200A service and the 150A service, since the labor is just about the same and the material cost appeared to me to be about $50 more, according to some research I did and quotes that I later received from other electricians. I think that they use a fixed price method for quoting jobs which didn't fit well with my particular situation (I could see maybe a 200A panel replacement costing what they quoted if all 40 circuits were filled AND each required an expensive combination AFCI or GFCI breaker, but this was not the case for my situation) . I eventually ended up choosing another electrician (licensed and insured) who completed a subset of the above work minus rewiring 7 receptacles (these were the ones on the 1st floor which were easily accessible through an unfinished basement) and the 2 outdoor receptacles for under $6000, including necessary permits/inspections.
Description of Work: Sargent provided an estimate to perform a service update to a 150A or 200A panel (I had both options priced), re-wire approximately 15-20 receptacles and 7 overhead lights as well as adding 3 receptacles in an unfinished basement and 2 new outdoor receptacles.

The first two times they did work for us we were pleased, though they were pretty expensive. The ceiling fan install went fine, and the electrician who came out to fix some outlets (I believe this was Elvis) was really nice and competent and did great work. Our last experience didn't go as well--we were having two new outlets installed in the bathrooms and it ended up costing a huge amount of money (about $1000), taking two days, and leaving several large holes in the wall on the floor below. We know our house is very challenging to work with, and we've learned that we usually pay more as a result, but this still seemed like a lot, especially since we'd gotten an estimate beforehand from them for the work that was only $500. I'm not sure what got overlooked when the estimate was made. The outlets work great and there's no damage to the bathroom tiles, and that's good, and the electrician was very pleasant and I could tell he was as frustrated by the situation as I was, but it was still not a good experience overall. Also, once you're on their list you'll keep hearing from them, and I dislike some of their tactics--what moved me to finally come on here and review them was a phone call I just got offering a "free assessment of our electrical needs" and somewhat pushily asking when they could come out. I declined politely and the woman on the phone demanded to know why, which I really disliked. I don't like this sort of sales tactic and it pushed me from being lukewarm on the company to disliking them. Too bad because they definitely have some good electricians working for them, but to me it's not worth the expense and annoying follow-ups.
Description of Work: We had work done by them on a few occasions--they installed a ceiling fan, fixed some outlets, and installed two new outlets in bathrooms.

This kind of work is not cheap that's why I gave the price rating a "B" it's not "exellent" but it's your electrical service that runs your house. I wanted two new electrical outlets to be added to my main panel. There was no room in the existing panel to add the circuits. Sargent (Mark and Greg) checked the outside wiring, connections and discusssed my options and it turned out that I needed to get a new panel that can hold more circuits as well as new components from top to bottom as everything was either corroded or in bad shape. As much as I didn't want to spend the money it was well worth it and the peace of mind that comes with it. I recommend this company from the receptionist who took my information to the end result of the work being completed to especially the guys that did my job to anyone who is on the fence or contemplating to do it or not. Find a way, spend the money and just do it if you need this kind of work done. They are not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for.
Description of Work: They installed a complete new electric service from where the electric connects to my house down to the main panel, surge protection + two new GFI outlets in my basement.

When I called, I did not identify myself as an Angie's List subscriber mainly because I didn't look at the list when I thought of Sargent. I had used them once before and at that time had a repair done and thought it was done well and at a reasonable price. This time, after a quick look at the fixture, I was told it was a bad socket and would cost $362.53 to repair. My husband decided after seeing the estimate to take another look at it himself and see if he could fix it. With the help of a friend and a couple of hours on a Saturday morning, the light was repaired. As it turns out, it was not the socket, but rather the light switch, which the electrician did not look at. Our cost for this repair was a grand total of $.85 - that is eighty-five cents for a small part needed. So we saved ourselves well over $360. My husband being of a skeptical nature feels that we were being ripped off. I don't know, but I do know I would not call them again. Our friend suggested that perhaps because we are senior citizens that Sargent thought we would not question this estimate and would just pay up. The total for this repair with the trip charge would have been $387.53 if we had Sargent repair the light. As I said I did pay the trip charge so it cost us $25 plus the 85 cents for the small part, which we purchased at a local hardware store. My light now works fine with no thanks to Sargent Electric Services.
Description of Work: We had a recessed floodlight in our kitchen over the kitchen sink. It had not worked for quite some time and we wanted to have it repaired. I called Sargent Electric Services and described the repair we needed. I was informed of the $25. trip charge and then set up an appointment for two days later on Thursday, March 4 at 7:30 to 8:00 am. The electrician arrived promptly at that time, looked at the repair needed and gave us an estimate. The estimate seemed to be much higher than expected. I reluctantly agreed to the price and the electrician indicated that he would have to go back into Pittsburgh to get a new socket. He had indicated that the socket was bad and would have to be replaced. My husband who had been asleep when the electrician arrived, got up after he had gone and when he saw the estimate thought it was too high and he also could not understand why the electrician did not have a socket in his truck with him. We decided not to have the repair done and I called and canceled immediately about five minutes after he left. I did mail a check for the trip charge.

I was impressed with the professionalism and diligence of Gene Robinson. The work was exceptional. Because of this experience, I plan to use this company in the near future to replace other electrical outlets in my house. Their prices, however, were higher than other Angie's List electricians I have used previously. One bonus was the 15% discount coupon for members of Angie's List. I would definitely recommend these contractors.
Description of Work: I needed the sockets in two fans and two electrical outlets to be replaced. The electrician, Gene Robinson, quickly assessed the problems and provided me with a estimate of the work to be completed. He was very professional and answered my questions in an informative manner, which was truly appreciated. I approved the estimate and the work was completed.

Went very well. Had both items for almost a year after several calls to our old electrician went unanswered I finally searched on the List and found good reports about Sargent Electric so I called and made an appointment to get the door chimes and thermostat in stalled. The electrician, I cannot remember his name now, came very close to the appointment time that I was told about the day before from a phone call from their office. He not only did the wiring but also the installation, drilling - mounting, for both new appliances. He cleaned up after he was finished as was pleasant and professional throughout our whole interaction.
Description of Work: Had new door bell chime installed and also new programmable thermostat installed.
