+ -1 morelast year's cleanup resulted in the loss of numerous perennials and a broken storm door glass which was not reimbursed fully. I gave it another try this year and the work was disappointing. When I told the company I got no understanding. Would not hire again.

Description of Work: For about three years the Rosato Company did regular grass cutting on my house in the City of Pittsburgh which sits on about 1/4 acre of land including the house so there is not much grass to cut. From time time, other services, such as hedge cutting and leaf removal were also done by Rosato. This Spring when I called in April to see when they would begin their services, I was informed that they no longer could service my house as I had not been giving them sufficient work, and they were cutting back on some of their subscribers. No advance notice was given prior to my call. The grass cutting is done punctually, professionally, and at a fair price of about $ 68.00 per month for weekly grass cutting. The problem with Rosato is the other services. Even though John Rosato has been doing this work for over 35 years, he always gives you a estimate that is a range---say from $ 125 to $ 150.00 for hedge cutting. The problem is the actual bill is always, in my experience, high than the top of the range. When you question Mr. Rosato about this, he is very defensive and bellegerent. He says he gives the fairest quote he can---even though, in my experience, the actual bill is higher than the high end of the quote. Most of all, he is extremely unpleasant to talk to. So if you want basic grass cutting, Rosato is fine. If you want other work, he also is fine. Just expect to pay 10 to 20% above his quote----and don't think of questioning him about it. Just write out the check.

+ -1 moreRosato and Sons do the landscaping and general lawn care of our neighbors and their yard always looks great. When we asked them, they recommended Rosato and Sons with enthusiasm. Although it was difficult getting in touch with them at first (they do work for a number of people and really aren't desperate for work), once we did they were prompt to come and see our house, give us an estimate, and start our work. They are great in offering suggestions but never seem to be pushing unnecessary or overly expensive work. We have two young children, and its nice to know that we can count on Rosato and Sons to take care of this one part of our lives.
Description of Work: They are performing ongoing work on your yard, including cleaning up our leaves, mowing and planting grass, planting shrubs and so forth.

+ 0 moreIt went perfectly. They selected trees in the size we wanted and then varied the sizes to accomodate the kind of privacy we wanted. Their entire crew was knowledgeable and very professional. They worked very hard to complete the job in one week, arranging hoses so that it would be easy to water the trees and then cleaned and mulched the entire area.When they left it was clear that the work had been completed by a good landscaper.
Description of Work: Planted 36 trees in our back yard to form a privacy border. They discussed arrangement and type of tree, selecting the best for the area and the climate conditions. The trees ranged from 8 foot to a little over 11 feet and were strong and healthy.

+ -1 moreI found this business on Angie's List and was eager to get services from a local Greenfield business. I first called them two Fridays ago, on August 2. I spoke with someone on the phone and told her the type of work I needed to have done. She told me that she would speak with the owner to find out if they were accepting new clients, and someone would call me. She was very nice on the phone, and I had no reason to think I wouldn't be contacted. After a week I still hadn't received a call, so I called again on Friday, August 9. I advised the woman who answered the phone that I had called a week ago and never received a return call. She took my information again and confirmed that someone would call me. It has been two weeks since I first contacted this business, and I have still not heard from anyone. Even if they are not accepting new clients at this time, I would expect at the very least that someone would contact me with this information. Given the proximity of this business to my home, and the high reviews they have received on this website, I am highly disappointed in this lack of professionalism.

Description of Work: The spending figure asked for is an approximation of what we pay monthly in season. They do not do snow removal for us, so those months are April through November. We have them on a regular basis to mow the lawn in the summer and do comprehensive clean-ups in the spring and fall. They are very thorough, friendly, and professional. They're on our regular team.

+ -1 moreGot estimate with options, was able to design my own program. They appeared all year without prompting and regularly did tasks I was not expecting. In the fall clean-up, for instance, they completely cleared the remains of our vegetable garden. In the flower/shrub areas, they recognized and spared every desirable plant, no matter how small, and removed the weeds that had grown in among them.
Description of Work: Ongoing lawn and outside care: spring and fall cleanups, lawn mowing, application of various treatments. Highly thorough and professional, courteous and prompt.

+ -1 moreI contacted Rosato & Sons around noon on Monday, May 9th to discuss having someone come to my home to provide me with an estimate for some yard clean up I need taken care for my home in Munhall. I received a call back very promptly, around 1:45 that afternoon. However, much to my disappointment Lisa was calling to tell me they do not generally do work outside of the Squirrel Hill area. I had to say that I was surprised, considering their office is only 3.5 miles from my home and quite frankly I would not consider Munhall that far out of the Squirrel Hill area. Lisa did provide me the name and number of another individual who might do work in Munhall that she could recommend. He is not listed on Angie’s List. I feel that both Rosato & Sons and I could have saved ourselves a lot of time if they would simply update their listing to note they only work in Squirrel Hill.

+ -1 moreWe have initiated an annual contract with this group, and their price estimate was about half that given to us from another competitor. This is a family run business, and they have a history in our area. They work quite well with customers, letting us do as little or as much of our own work as we have time for. For example, we like to plant our own beds in the spring, but we need assistance with garden maintenance throughout the year. Mr. Rosato is quite knowledgeable about plants and landscaping, and is available for consultation ( e.g. selection of plantings) as needed.
Description of Work: Initial work involved complete yard and lawn care and cleaning, front yard and back, including weeding in all of the gardens, cutting and edging of the lawn, trimming of all of the bushes, treatment of crabgrass, etc., etc. The yard was a mess when we started, and it was beautiful when they finished the work. We can't remember a time that our lawn looked so neat. The weeding was so carefully performed that nary a plant was moved. They revealed flowers that we did not even know we had!

+ -1 moreThey are reliable, not expensive and easy to work with. Last year they sent a letter saying that they will be sensitive to the present economic situation and they will not charge anything extra for the materials they will bring for their clients. I am very a happy with them overall.
Description of Work: Rosata & sons has been our regular lawn care people for the last 10 years. They come every Monday to cut the grass and do regular spraying. They also do the clean up. They follow a schedule.

Since the company already does weekly yard work for two immediate neighbors as well as others on our street I expected that they would be glad to add another customer. I was told that a representative would call me to discuss my request in more detail. I never heard from them. If you don't want more work just say so. Don't waste my time!
