Ryan and his crew were phenonmenal. We went through a few scheduling hiccups, but the underlying reasons for these were all completely understandable and Ryan was incredibly professional in contacting me and ensuring knowledge and acceptance of the situation. The crew had a pretty rough time as they encountered many challenges that come with rewiring a home this age (our house was built circa 1930 and had most of the original wiring). They were excellent about cleaning up and being mindful of moving furniture around as necessary. Stayed late as needed to get the job done and make sure we had everything up and running before they left each evening. Ryan was super knowledgeable and informative throughout the process and took the time to explain everything to us thoroughly. The quality of the work was stellar, and we are more than happy with the end product. I would definitely call Renaissance (and particularly Ryan) for future electrical work. Thanks guys for all your hard work! We really appreciate it!
Description of Work: Complete rewire and replacement of knob and tube wiring of entire upstairs, plus additional wiring on main floor and through basement. Also installed two outdoor outlets on front and back porches.

The company would not complete the service. The installer indicated in his first call that it was not worth his time to come and install the ceiling fan and he would only come if there was more work to be done, that he could charge me. I do have more work, so I was initially ok with this, but then he cancelled several more times.
Description of Work: The installer rescheduled several on three instances. Each time due to his schedule not mine. While responsive to phone calls, he was unresponsive to understanding how to provide a timely service.

Allow me to fill in the parts of this story that you have for some reason "left out". The original service call was delayed because you wouldn't return our call. We had called you to schedule the day before and had told you we could do it the following day. However we did not get conformation of the appointment until 10 min before it. Now unfortunately we are not a very large company and as much as we would love to just dispatch a new tech to you at 730pm at night we cannot. If a customer does not confirm an appointment (which we told you in the 2 voice mails we first left) 24 hours prior, we schedule someone else. So when you call 10 min before an unconfirmed appointment that is also considered after normal business hours and expect someone to be there (especially after working 13 hours by that time already) don't be surprised if they want to spend time with their family's instead of traveling back to the other side of Pittsburgh to install your fan. Every following phone call was a request to perform service after hours. Which we do not have a problem doing as long as it is scheduled that way. So when you schedule a ceiling fan install at 9pm don't be surprised if you get charged a night differential. Because that is what this "F" is all about. We were kind, courteous and understanding to your schedule. But any work after 6pm is going to be at a different rate. Now don't get me wrong. All of my customers are very important to me. In fact I know most of them on a first name basis. But for you to not say anything to me about this and then refuse to answer our phone calls so we can come to some sort of resolution tells me you had something in mind from the get go. I encourage anyone reading this to please refer and read the other 98% of our reviews. And you will see that we have a very high satisfaction rate.

The service turned out alright. They did get the work done for the Big Deal. The professionalism was lacking and that is the only service I would use them for.

I think you are referring to an employee that was employed with us during this time frame. He is obviously no longer here due to similar reasons. We would be more that happy to do whatever it takes to earn back your business. Please let us know.

I originally called them to repair the ceiling fan in my bedroom because the light fixture was no longer working. In the interim I was told by a friend that new regulations require that any outlets around water need to be GFI protected so I advised Ryan that I would like to have them installed in the kitchen and laundry utility area. I also had a porch light fixture that was not properly installed. On the day of the appointment Ryan and Dave contacted me to let me know they were running late and then called me again to let me know they were on their way. When they arrived Ryan showed me his business card and both electricians wore booties so they would not track dirt through the house. Both were very professional and courteous. Ryan replaced three outlets in the kitchen and laundry area, explained how the GFI's worked and checked to make sure they were properly functioning. They only had to replace the dimmer switch for the ceiling fan since it was not the fan fixture itself that was faulty. The porch light fixture was removed and properly installed. They also checked the smoke detector in my hallway and replaced the battery. I had used Renaissance Electric before with the same excellent results. I highly recommend them. The service is great, the electricians are professional and courteous and the price is very fair.
Description of Work: Installed three ground fault protector outlets in kitchen and basement utility area; installed new fan dimmer switch, repaired outside porch light fixture.

I purchased an Angie's List Big Deal for this service and they were awesome. The gentleman who was in here, I believe he was the owner, was phenomenal. I needed a few more outlets that I was not aware of so he added them in and charged me minimal pricing. I added a little work for him so we paid above the original price of the deal.

I contacted Renaissance on March 13th to request an estimate on electrical work that needed to be done in my garage and basement! On March 14th the technicians arrived and did a walk thru to get an idea of the work that needed ! That evening I received the invoice with a breakdown of the work to be done and costs! I called on the 15th to set up an appointment. The two technicians arrived at 10:00 a.m. and worked till approximately 12:30 p.m. on March 21st. They completed the work and showed me all they had done as well as assuring me of the worries I had of some older wiring as not being dangerous! I would use them in a minute again!
Description of Work: Replaced light fixture over garage door! Replaced switches in garage and basement to allow off and on from two different locations! Replaced two prong plugs in basement with three prong number three! Replaced electrical boxes that were not in good shape.Three year parts and labor no charge!

Coupon was purchased on 1/28/2014. Service provider did not respond to initial request for service call/estimate. Finally, after several emails and phone calls, set up appointment for estimate. Never received estimate after visit. Several phone calls later was promised estimate "that day"--never received. To date, after 5 weeks, no estimate, no service. Service provider generally unresponsive.

It went well, the service was purchased through the Angie List big deal. Renaissance had me provide some pictures of the current setup which provided them an opportunity to assess the system and make a recommendation that a grounding rod needed to be added which was not used in 1960 when originally installed. They also gave us an option of increasing the size of the box for future expansion. After agreeing on the install, we arranged a date in early January. Erik was on time and when he inspected the system noticed a possible issue with the water line coming into the house close to the box. He suggested water company inspect and arranged for another the following week. He arrive on time and installed the system the following week. The work was completed efficiently and the area was left clean.
Description of Work: Replaced the electrical panel and the grounding system.

Ryan called to confirm the appointment and he and Don arrived shortly after. Quickley identified that something other than the breaker switch itself was causing the problem. Ryan and Don began tracing the lines and found two outlets that were faulty and causing the problem. The house is large with multiple outlets but theses professionals were determined to solve the problem. Ryan also showed me that there was corrosion on many of the circuit breakers and was excellent in explaining what causes corrosion and what the cost would be to replace all the circuit breakers - I agreed to this work and he was able to take care of it right away,Ryan kept me informed of what they were doing through their inspection. Both men were very professional , kept me informed , explained all cost , and were excellent at cleaning up the area after their work. These men represent this company very well, deserve an A rating. This was a very good experience and I will use this company again for my electrical needs and will.. be glad to recommend their service. Thank you Ryan and Don for your excellent work.

I left a message via Angies list and emailed this company for an estimate. Erik called back immediately the same day. I called because, 2 ceiling fans blew on me within a 7 yr period and smelled burning from them. I also needed a dishwasher line installed for a new dishwasher to be installed. I wanted a new panel and surge protector since I will be upgrading the bathroom next. We made an appointment for inspection the day after Christmas. Erik called to see if he could come earlier than scheduled in which I agreed . After inspection, Erik suggested that I put off ceiling fan until the summer; since I am currently not using it in winter. This will ensure that my price will be more affordable within my budget. I emailed him and asked for a written estimate so that I can have a copy prior to repairs and also had a few more concerns that I needed addressed . I asked about permits and lines on different breakers . He replied promptly via email. Day of work 1-11-14, Erik came on time as scheduled. He performed all of the work by himself. He pointed out where water was getting into my panel as I saw it dripping in!! It was currently raining. He showed me the some breakers that were corroded , singed and blackened!!!! I am so Lucky that my ceiling fan went!! Who knows when a fire could've started. I moved in 15 years ago and never updated the panel. I let Erik know some other lighting plans that I would like to have done in the summer; along with the ceiling fan. He gave me another estimate for those repairs. I am very satisfied with Erik's work. He was very efficient ,got work done in about 2.5 hrs , professional and patient. I will definitely have him do all of my electrical work if and when needed. I will recommend him to friends and family!! Excellent Work !!

I would definitely use him again (especially since we have a lifetime guarantee on the box as long as they do the connection work). My only complaint is that I am still waiting for a copy of the invoice for the work that was performed. Impressed that even though they had sold TONS of these deals he was able to complete the work within 2 weeks of purchase.
Description of Work: Purchased a big deal from Renaissance to swap out our electrical panel for $849. After Erik spoke to my husband we realized that is not what we needed. Instead he installed a new electrical panel with additional breaker spaces for us. In addition he reattached our main service line that had come off due to a fallen tree. We were totally convinced that we needed a 200 amp service but Erik assured us that was unnecessary and encouraged us not to spend the money. In addition, after all was done I had him come and check out a remodel we were planning and he gave some great ideas.

Response from Renaissance Electric and Power Systems
I am STUNNED at the audacity of this customer after everything we did for her. Please, allow me to elaborate... We were scheduled for a 9am appointment. We promptly arrived at the customers location at 8:55am. After about 10 min of knocking on various entrances thinking the customer might be sleeping we decided to call them. Luckily they answered when we called. 10 min down the road they said. Well 10 min turned into 4 more calls and 55 minutes later. By this time we had been waiting an hour past our scheduled time when the customer finally arrived. We had informed the customer that we were now limited on time as our inspections take about an hour and advised her to reschedule. Well this was absolutely unacceptable. So I called our next appointment and bought us an extra 30 min. After chatting our ears off about multiple personal problems for a good 25 min she finally let us into the house. This is where it gets bad. The odor that hit us was like a tidal wave. Cat urine and feces combine with the smell of garbage was overwhelming. But, trying to be polite we did not mention it as we entered the home. Making our way through the front door was a chore in itself as the door would only open about a foot or so because of all the garbage in the house! It was like watching an episode of Hoarders! The garbage was so thick we had to crawl to most areas of the house on top of it. After a quick "crawl" through we found dozens of fire hazards. Open wall splices covered in soggy McDonalds wrappers, exposed broken light fixtures, a leaky fuse box and much more! She calls it "fishing" we call it helping. So after 20 min or so of kneeling, crawling and walking through mountains of fecal matter and garbage we decided to get out of there. Thank god she didn't call us back to actually do the work. For the record I wasn't going to divulge this information to the world as I figure this customer has severe mental illness but I felt it necessary to defend such a horrible review. As you (the reader) can plainly see our outstanding prior reviews on here I'm sure you will look past this one as pure nonsense.

Renaissance called and advised they sold many deals and that I had to provide photos to them in order for them to do the work. I did so. They used those photos to advise that the total job would go from $849.00 to $2,100.00. That was well above what I could afford to pay.

I called Renaissance for help with certain circuits in my house flickering and did have to leave message but received a callback within 20 minutes. I can't remember the name of the guy who called me back but he was completely honest with me. He told me that he has seen this issue time and time again and that rather than send one of his guys out to look at the problem that I should call Duquense Light first and have them check my wires from the pole. I did that and they came out an hour later and found that one of my legs was corroded. Duquense Light repaired the issue for free and so far so good! So not only did Renaissance point me in the right direction they did it at no charge. Some other companies would probably send someone out anyway just to tell me that and charge me $100 bucks. I will be a customer for life after such honest and professional service.

THIS GUY LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE! But before I tell you how he saved my life, I have to tell you how he ruined my Saturday afternoon. I found Renaissance Electric through an Angie?s List Big Deal to replace my electrical panel and install a whole house surge protector. The price was good, so I called to set up an appointment. I thought I?d have to take a day off work, but Erik said he could come out on the following Saturday afternoon to do the four hour job. That was the same Saturday afternoon that the Carnegie Science Center was allowing visitors to throw Halloween Jack O?Lanterns off their five story roof. Sadly, my family would be punkin chunkin' without me. But it was better than missing work. Erik showed up early and after just the right amount of chit chat went straight to work. I asked him if he could re-connect the electrical line to the stove. The previous owner had disconnected it from the panel in order to make room for additional circuits and it was just hanging from a joist in the basement. I knew I?d never buy an electric range, but if we ever sold the house I?d want the buyer to have the option. He agreed to do the job for the cost of the breaker. Exactly two hours after he arrived at my house I could hear him flipping breakers back on. Two hours to replace an electrical panel in the dark using nothing but an LED headlight! So now I?m thinking I could have been throwing pumpkins off the roof after all! Thanks for working so fast, Erik! As he continued switching on breakers I heard a faint ?pop? but didn?t pay it any mind, thinking it was a GFI that tripped for some reason. That?s when Erik called me down to the basement to explain that there was a problem with the circuit to the range. When he flipped that breaker it tripped the whole house. He kept that breaker turned off and explained that I?d have to have it checked out. As we were heading upstairs we heard a beeping sound. Erik said it sounded like a smoke alarm and asked if I was cooking anything. I just had a pot of spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove, but it wasn?t smoking. As we got to the kitchen we heard a hissing sound coming from behind the oven. Erik sprang into action and wrestled the stove out from the wall to reveal flames jumping from the 50 amp electrical outlet! I very quickly put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. When the dust settled we could still hear the hissing sound. It seems that the house?s previous owner had for some reason removed the plastic housing surrounding the stove?s surface mounted electrical outlet. With no current supplying the outlet, the stainless steel gas supply line had safely rested against the exposed outlet for years. However, when Erik switched on the breaker it immediately shorted and burned two holes into the line which was now leaking gas into my house! As I opened windows Erik attempted to turn the gas shutoff valve by hand, but it and the gas line were too hot. Now it was a mad dash to find a pair of pliers sufficient to turn the very stubborn shutoff valve while I looked for a whole house shutoff valve in the basement. Erik was finally able to get the valve closed. He went back to the basement to open up the panel and disconnected the supply to the stove. In the end, he didn?t charge me for the stove circuit. He also didn?t charge for correctly hooking up the water meter ground wire the water company incorrectly installed this summer. If you?re looking for an electrician who is efficient, does a good job and is reasonably priced, then Renaissance Electric is the company you should call. While I may have missed out on throwing pumpkins off a five story building, thanks to Erik I didn?t die in a fiery explosion. So, even though he ruined my Saturday afternoon by working so quickly, my family and I realize how much worse the situation could have been and we owe him a debt of gratitude. Thank you, Erik.

They were excellent. He knew immediately what they had done. They were excellent. I can't say enough about them. I would recommend them to anybody. I had two other estimates and they were even higher than Renaissance. The other companies didn't have any idea what the problem was. He wasn't the cheapest price but he really seemed to know what he was doing so I went with him. His price was reasonable.
Description of Work: I used Renaissance Electric because I had somebody put in a new box with trippers a year ago. Evidently they did something wrong and all I do is blow the trippers constantly. I blew out a TV and 2 microwaves and a ceiling fixture. He redid the box, replaced a lot of plugs and put a new ceiling fan in the bedroom. He also put a ceiling fan and exhaust in the bathroom.

It has been over three weeks and I have recieved no estimate and no follow-up call. A delay of this nature in a project that is projected to produce revenue is significant. I thought I was dealing with a reputable firm and I wasn't. I had no contact from anyone at Renaissance Electric until I called them on the 18th. Starting with that call, I heard about how busy they are, that a guy had been sick, that all their estimates had been sent out the previous week and that I should check my spam folder (I had, several times), that I'd have an estimate by the end of the weekend, by the end of the day and I forget what else. I've gotten calls from numbers in New York, Florida, Virginia and from a blocked number, none of which I will answer. I have three numbers for this company and I would answer calls from them. I am furious that I've waited three weeks and that no one there seems to know what anyone else says, or even who they are. Finally, last night, I called Ryan and he was barely able to speak; he certainly could have been extremely exhuausted from a long day. This is the most unprofessional vendor I have ever encountered. I have my phone and email documentation,
Description of Work: After selecting this firm based on their very positive Angie's List rating, called and spoke with Eric on 10/1. He said he'd have Ryan call me and set up an appointment to look at my project. Ryan called within an hour and made an appointment for 10/2. Ryan came (after calling to say he'd be a half hour late - he was, and apologized again when he arrived) and performed a thorough inspection of the project and asked good questions indicating that he understood what I wanted to have done. He explained in detail how the proposal would be presented, how he would address using the materials I have on hand, what his schedule was for the next few weeks, that his proposal would be line item specific and would include his time for being present each time the electrical inspector came, that he would pull two permits (one for service and one for new wiring) and that the work would take one long day for him and one helper.
