I am simply going to list the sequence of events: - We showed him the tile and decorative strip we wanted for the floor (picked out at a local hardware store, our purchase, not included in cost of service above). Contractor did not notice until the first day of work that the two tiles were different heights. We were prepared (although not happy) to choose something new, but then he stated that he could still work with the original ones we had chosen - without telling us that there would be additional time and cost ($710) involved. - He erroneously put a sample tile we had bought that was similar, but not the same, as the ones we eventually chose. It is still in the corner of our kitchen floor. - He did not tile all the way under the fridge and stove until we noticed it and told him to complete it. - He was unable to balance the fridge correctly afterward. Our son ended up fixing it. - He apparently received the wrong length of heating coil from the factory. He never disclosed this with us and proceeded with 2 different lengths of heating element. He laid all the heating coils without the help of an electrician and then called them in to finish the work and splice the 2 together. He repeatedly said that this was very simple and implied that the cost of this would also be reasonable. Instead we went through four electricians who were all shocked by what he was asking them to do and refused to complete the work. We ended up calling the original factory to make sure this wasn't a fire hazard and the fourth electrician reluctantly agreed to connect the thermostats - but at a cost of almost $2000 because he had to create 2 separate thermostats - one for the short coil and one for the longer one - which is not what we wanted. The floor still does not heat evenly. - I will say that our floor does look beautiful now. However the whole process was unbelievably painful. Whenever we would question him about anything he became aggressively defensive to the point where we did not trust him about anything he said. Overall,he should be working for someone who can see the big picture and not try to wing it on his own. He clearly doesn't know what he doesn't know....which is our loss.
