Description of Work: Very professional, experience seems comparable to what other similar companies provide. I appreciate the rechargeable collar, too. Very pleased in general with work quality, has held up for 2 years now with no problems. I would and have recommended them to friends. I do not fear for my dog's safety while in use

Description of Work: Ed installed an underground electric fence to keep my new dog in the yard. Louise is a rescued "bait dog" and consequently timid to say the least. So training her with the new fence was a challenge. True to his word, however, Ed bent over backwards to be sure Louise and I were comfortable with the new system. Ed's professionalism, his small business, and local roots, his true caring about dogs and certainly Louise are unmatched. Price and efficacy aside, it's very reassuring to work directly with "the boss," especially one as professional and caring as Ed. Looking to install a safe and effective way to keep your dog in the yard? Call Ed at Pittsburgh PetFence. There is no way to be disappointed.

Very professional job.
Description of Work: I called Ed Fogarty, owner of Pittsburgh Pet Fence on March 11, 2013 after reading his good reviews on Angie's List. He explained everything he would do in my yard and told me that he would call whenever a date was available for him to install the fence. He came on March 20 and did the job. He spent some time first getting to know my dog, Gracie. Then he asked me where I wanted the boundaries to be in my yard. Since my yard has a strange layout with a lot of concrete steps on the side of my house that go down to my garage, he made sure that Gracie could walk down the stairs with me to get to the garage and to visit with my sister-in law who lives in the apartment next to the garage. This manuever took more time than he had anticipated, but he and his helper patiently figured out how to handle it and took extra time in making it just right. They went above and beyond to give this feature to me and Gracie. They both were very friendly and courteous and very professional. I am very very pleased with the end result in my yard. When the work was done, Ed trained Gracie for about a half hour and then showed me what I had to do for the next 2 weeks. Its been almost 3 weeks now and Gracie is completely trained and happy with the new freedom she has to run and play in the yard. During this time she only had 3 corrections, and this was all part of the learning process for her. I can now let her go out in the yard and not worry about her running off after a rabbit or deer into the woods behind my house. I am so glad that I found Pittsburgh Pet Fence and would recommend them to everyone.

Description of Work: I called Ed to ask if he could repair another company's fence and he said yes and came over the same day. I found Ed to be very friendly and helpful. He came prepared to fix the break, which he did at a very reasonable price. I asked about revising the fence, since it was installed too close to the road. Ed said he could do that, no problem and the price was fair enough that I gave him the go-ahead and even switched from the big national company to his company. My daughter wanted a pink collar for her maltipoo. Ed special-ordered one, and brought it out promptly. I would highly recommend Ed and his assistant, Morris, in a minute.

Description of Work: We were dubious about the cost/benefit of installing an electric fence and unsure of how it would effect the landscaping etc. Ed was wonderful. His install was meticulous. He patiently hand cut the ground through our landscaping so that you honestly couldn't tell where he had been. He was friendly and clearly had both the needs of dogs and families as well as consideration for our neighbors. He was very responsive to us when our dog decided after several months to take the correction and leave the yard anyway, He came out to work with the dog and then ordered a different system and installed it that better suited our needs. We can't say enough about how much we appreciate Ed's knowledge and commitment to make sure that each customer is satisfied. His prices are far lower than the competition and he stands behind his work. Our dog is a rescue and had pretty significant separation anxiety to the point of needing medication, Having the freedom that an electric fence provides calmed him to the point of being weaned off his medication. We were really impressed! I don't normally write reviews, but our experience with Ed and Pittsburgh Pet Fence was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for and I feel compelled to let others know about how pleased we are!

The owner, Ed, is extremely passionate about doing his job right. We have a very difficult yard to install an invisible fence in. That being said, Ed never complained or cut corners. He listened to us on where we wanted the fence boundaries, even though they were not on the most convenient terrain. The bill was exactly what he had quoted us, no hidden costs. And when we had questions after the install, he was readily available and did not "disappear" after the job was done. He is a professional who is local and does not hide behind a national company's name. It's refreshing to hire someone who does the job right (and meticulously) and who truly enjoys his job.

Description of Work: Ed Fogarty is very responsive and professional. We met the day after I called him and the fence was installed within a week. I have three dogs and Ed has also been quite helpful with their training and following up to see how we are doing. His price was very fair and far less than the major competitor. It's been 8 days and all three dogs have really gotten the hang of it. Unlike the major competitor, Ed provides rechargeable batteries which will provide us (with 3 dogs) considerable savings in the future. I highly recommend Pittsburgh Pet Fence!

We contacted Pittsburgh Pet Fence and got in touch with Ed right away. He was able to give us all the necessary details and quote us a price with the initial phone call. (Thanks to google earth!) He was also good at working around our schedules (and the weather) and did the work at a convenient time. The installation was very professionally done. You can't see where the yard was dug and concrete crossed to install the lines. The install of the unit in the garage was nicely done as well. The yard area was marked with small flags for training purposes. Ed did an excellent job explaining and demonstrating the training process with us and our dog.His product and install are more affordable than other similar systems. It's a one time purchase of the training collar where as with other companies you have to purchase a new collar device on an annual basis. The unit has a battery backup for added security and the collar device is waterproof, rechargeable and pretty indestructible. Other systems did not have these advantages. We contacted Ed after talking to our neighbors who had him install their fence about a year ago and they recommended his services. We would do the same. In summary, Pittsburgh Pet Fence provided us with a good quality product and a clean and professional install at a fair price.

I researched pet fencing systems for two years before contracting with Pittsburgh Pet Fence. I knew the problems many dog owners experienced and could see the difference with Pittsburgh Pet Fence. Ed is the owner and operator - unlike the major brand shops, it is his name and reputation his customers depend on. He carries a variety of alarm systems for different breeds and owner needs. Customers directly benefit from Ed's ~20 years high tech computer networking experience. He "hardens" the installation using heavy gauge, thickly insulated cooper wire and weather proofs any spliced wires. Ed is a hard core dog lover, one of the reasons he does this work, and is great working with owners. He "hand cut" the openings to insert the fence into my front, back and side yards. Another difference to appreciate - after installation, other than marker flags you may not be able to tell where the fence was laid because he's meticulous with cutting into your lawn and with cleaning it up. He taught me how to begin training my dog Joey with the collar, walking the perimeter with him associating the warning tone with the marker flags. I needed a lot of coaching here as Joey was accustomed to going AWOL on whimsy. I watched the online training content, not Ed's stuff but the manufacturer's and you can find owner videos too. Ed always spoke with me by phone and answered my emails/messages in the following weeks of training. We did well. Our receiver collar takes inexpensive batteries, I've noticed some neighbors stopped using their systems just because the replacement batteries are too expensive. Now, I believe Pittsburgh Pet Fence now uses rechargeable collars for their customers. An added convenience of not having to take the receiver apart to replace the battery. I saved hundreds of dollars with a Pittsburgh Pet Fence. Bought a fence with higher quality materials, installation, and service. Continue to save on batteries. Wish I installed it earlier, would have saved Joey & I all of the AWOL problems. Do your homework and compare other services, but don't waste time. If you're putting hours into this project I'd recommend contacting Pittsburgh Pet Fence. Read the testimonials on Ed's web site. Carefully read the "Why Us?" tab, do the "other guys" even come close to these specs?. (He's added new features since I purchased.) Highly recommended and affordable. Suggestion: While the marker flags are in place for training take some digital pictures of your fence and draw a map with details of the installation. I included the distance from my neighbor's yard, distance from my garden, & depth. Take pictures of the map and keep them ready to warn plumbers, lawn services, etc. Change the battery in the dog collar once a year (AA in mine), same day you change the smoke detector batteries (Valentine's Day in my house).
Description of Work: A thorough evaluation of both the property and pet to determine which system would best protect our dog and work for us. Identifying and marking the fencing boundaries and the best location for alarm panel. Opening a "clean seam" into the lawn with shovel by hand. Removal of foreign objects blocking the clean installation of underground wire. Installation of insulated wiring and connectors beneath lawn. Installation of alarm box and testing of circuit. Burying cable, lawn cleanup, and marking of fence perimeter with marker flags. Teaching the use of system's dog collar and alarm box. Education on how to progressively train dog with the receiver collar. Clear direction's how to view additional materials online and contact owner/operator with followup questions, concerns, & training issues.
